Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-C3750X-48P Access Switch Not Reachable And After Reload Started Working
Sep 15, 2012
I had a strange issue with one of my customer..Cisco WS-C3750X-48P Access switch was not reachable and after reload it started working.I would like to know the root cause of the issue. There were no logs and no errors in interfaces.Even Cpu utilization was not high. We have enabled arp inspection and dhcp snooping in the switch..Hope this will not make any issue..Also we have dot1x enabled on port..
SSH has been enabled on our one and only 4507 switch for several months and working fine. A few weeks ago the switch had to be reloaded and when it was back online I couldn't SSH to it. When I connected via the console and typed "show ip ssh" it came back saying I needed to generate the keys. Did that and it starting working again. The same switch had to turned off and on the other day due to a power down in the server room and when it came back the same thing happened again!!
The version of IOS is: cat4000-i5k91s-mz.122.20.EW
I'm experiencing strange issue with my WS-C3750X-48T-S.
Model number: WS-C3750X-48T-S System image file is "flash:/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3.bin"
This switch is situated on a remote site and on the 6th of January it was rebooted. I still do not know the cause, but it might be power outage or smth. We are still checking. After the reboot I've noticed that one port on this cisco switch is in 'notconnect' state, while I'm pretty sure it should be 'connected'.
I've tried to shutdown the port adminstratevly and do the 'no shutdown' but this port remained in 'disable' state.
#sh run interface Gi1/0/5 Building configuration... ! interface GigabitEthernet1/0/5
My 2960-24TC-L switch is startet up and shows up: switch.Have tried to upload new image with xmodem without success. There must be a procedure to upload the new image, I have looking for hours and can not find the procedure.
Suffered a big outage on the network, the fix was to reload the module 3 on the 6509 switch, we had these errors on the log %CONST_DIAG-SW1_SP-3-HM_PORT_TEST_FAIL: Switch 1 Module 3 TestUnusedPortLoopback Port(s)[24,46] failed. System operation continues.in the end, we reloaded the card and it was all ok. is there anything I can do to check the card / or any deeper logs? would that error cause the card to crash?
Situation: - 2x 3750G-12S Distribution-Switches (DS) and several 3560/2960 Access-Switches (AS) - redundant Fiber optic uplinks between AS and DS - Cross-Stack Etherchannel config on all uplinks - UDLD aggressive mode configured on all uplinks
Problem: - when I reload the DS and the switch comes up again, I've lost the connection with several (not all) AS - looking at the AS log I found the following error message: "%UDLD-4-UDLD_PORT_DISABLED: UDLD disabled interface Gi0/1, aggressive mode failure detected"
Cause: - in the log of the AS I don't see intf Gi0/1 go down during the reload of the DS - this means the DS didn't shuts down all its ports during the reload - but this also means that UDLD on AS didn't know about DS reload, and therefore didn't resets counters
Workaroud/Solution - I'm now configuring errdisable recovery on all AS
So I'm forced to configure errdisable recovery, even if I don't want.
I am not able to find the exact bug for Cisco 3750E stack - Debug Exception (Could be NULL pointer dereference) Exception (0x2000) error. Closest i can find is CSCsa72400 which only affects ver 12.2(20)SE4.All the stacks (3 switches) are running 12.2(50)SE3, It appears that the switch 1 crashed and reloaded. My hunch is its software but i cant find any related bugs. It could be hardware issue as well ?
I uploaded a new config file via TFTP to a 3560 switch. What are the order of commands to get it to boot from this new config file instead of the file listed in 'sh boot': [code]
I am having an issue with adding a c3750x switch to an existing switch stack Currently there is 2 x WS-C3750X-48P and I am trying to add another WS-C3750X-48P to this switch I have cabled the switch to the stack using the stack cables and added the command to provision the switch on the exisitng stack. However when I turn the switch on it just goes on its own stack.
I noticed the new switch had a later version of IOS so have downgraded this to the same version as the other switches but still no joy Here is the sh ver from the exisitng stack

I have one 4506E switch working in Lan setup as a core switch with WS-X45-SUP6L-E running ipbase IOS 12.2(54)SG1. Each time after reload the switch we found that the clock is getting reset ( time is getting changed ) where as day, date & year is unchanged.
I have my hsp setup where switch A and switch B share active/standby roles among several vlans. In the last few weeks, i have seen trouble tickets where connectivity is lost and upon investigation i discover that i can ping physical interface IP addresses for both standby and active devices but not the standby IP. I have also validated configurations and layer 2 paths and they haven't been broken.
What I end up doing is failover to the standby device and back and the problem clears, reachability is restored. My question is whether I am solving this the right way. If so, what is it that would cause the standby IP to not be reachable and how does my solution fix that? N/B the switches are catalyst 6509's.
It is said that the switching fabric of WS-C3750X-24T-E is 160Gbps.Could any body tell me what is switching fabric, any relevance or difference from forwarding rate?,Is there any document to know how will the switch reach the 160Gbps full switching fabric performance?
I have a Cisco SG 300-20 as the core switch, layer 3. It is 192.168.4.6 on VLAN1 and 192.168.5.1 for VLAN2 (VOIP). All the ports are set in trunk mode. DHCP relay is setup on this switch.
The phones connected into a layer 2, Catalyst 2960-S switch. All ports are set in trunk mode. Default gateway on it is set to 192.168.5.1.
DHCP for both VLANs is provided by a Windows Server 2008 R2 server (the relay IP 192.168.4.15).
There is also an ASA 5510 in the mix which is 192.168.4.1. It has a route added to it for the 192.168.5.0 network to go to the SG 300 (192.168.5.1).
Just the two switches can ping each other on the 192.168.5.x network when I "add vlan 2" to the trunk port that is connected between the SG 300 and the 2960. The phones don't get DHCP on the 2960 switch. And I cannot ping 192.168.5.x from the ASA or anything else on the 192.168.4.x network.
After a bit of reading on intra-vlan routing for the SG 300 switch, I am thinking the SG 300 has to be the "center" of things so I need to make it 192.168.4.1 to be the gateway for both VLANs and change the ASA to 192.168.4.2 for VLAN1, etc. And I really can't do asymmetric routing with this switch.
Currently, my Cisco 3750x (2 switches stacking) is having very hight CPU. Below are some of the output :
3750-ANA#sh processes cpu sorted | ex 0.00 CPU utilization for five seconds: 55%/30%; one minute: 55%; five minutes: 55% PID Runtime(ms) Invoked uSecs 5Sec 1Min 5Min TTY Process
[Code]....
I am not sure what is using CPU to go up like this. I had tried some troubleshooting guide on Cisco web site like "Troubleshooting high CPU Utilization"
I've just purchased a new Cisco 881.I'm using NAT NVI for my inbound static mappings. However, regardless of the fact that the config is saved to nvram, after a reload of the router, the NAT mappings are setup as traditional inside/outside mappings. This means that inbound connections in to the router on the required services fail, until someone logs on to the router and re-applies the NVI mappings.
Here's a sanitised version of my startup-config:

I have a cable from an SFP module in a WS-C3750-48P with 12.2(55)SE1 running to a Gigabit port on a Cisco WLC. After the switch recovers from a power failure, the gigabit autonegotiation fails. The cure is a long drive to unplug and reseat the SFP. Note this happens at too many similar sites for this to be a loose connection. Interface shutdown then 'no shutdown' is not sufficient. The state is 'line protocol is down (not connected)'. Interface is configured for switchport mode trunk (auto speed, auto duplex). Command 'switchport nonegotiate' makes no difference. Is there a more powerful command than 'shutdown' which might toggle the interface signals? Is there some way of resetting the SFP? sh int gi 1/0/1 displays 'media type is 10/100/1000BaseTX SFP' and zero packets received.
Last night, the C6509-E do a unexpected reload. In the crashinfo, I can see that the last error message before the reload, was as follows: %C6K_ PLATFORM-SP-2-PEER_RESET: SP is being reset by the RP
I consulted the cisco website about this error message and what I found was the following:C6K_PLATFORM-2.
I want to deploy the C3750X 24-port SFP switch as the core switch in a large Layer 2 switching domain. The switch will need to run:
+/- only 10 large VLANs, 6 VLANs with HSRP +/- 500 MACs total +/- 5 OSPF sessions default timers
standard PVST+ (no Rapid PVST+)i need around 27 SFP ports (24 + 4 on network module=28=ok, extra capacity by stacking)
Looking at the switching capacity of the specs (160 Gbps) this is much better than a C6500 with SUP32-GE !Will it be able to handle this or should i look for C6500+SUP32GE or C6500-SUP720 or maybe even C4500 ?
First of all I purchased the switches with part no. WS-C3750X-48P with the following IOS c3750e-universalk9-mz.150-1.SE1 & IOS feature license to work as ipservice. Symptoms:
1) - When running the switches in stack mode (connecting the booth switch with full-duplex stack) I found the cpu utilization on each switch reached to 34% The Hulc LED Process reaches to 20%
3) - After about 1 hour with no connections to the switch I found the status not changed.
4) - I tried to run each switch in stand-alone mode (without stack cables connected) & monitor the status of the cpu utilization. I found it the same problem exist. Actions taken:
1) - Refereeing to the internet I found a bug ID describing the status of the mentioned symptoms (attached)
2) - I made a down grade for the IOS version to be c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin
3) - The mentioned IOS solved the Hulc LED Process (became 1 : 3 % ) & however cpu utilization became 18% with no links or traffic connected to the switches.
4) - I guess that 18 % utilization is too much for a free switch (refer to the show run file) as I did not configure any advanced commands.
I'm looking for a 24-port SFP switch. Each of the two switches in the subject meets that requirement. If I went with the ME switch over the 3750 (at about half the cost), what features/functionality if any, would I be giving up?
I just loaded the web interface IOS on a C3750X. The first thing I noticed was there was basically no web interface. I can look at things, and do default configurations on ports, but it doesn't appear I can configure VLANs or QoS or anything like that.
Am I missing something, or is this just how the web interface functions?
I am having a switch 3750G (WS-C3750G-24TS-S) running a software version (c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-55.SE6.bin) and using the PBR with IP SLA.While, i am applying it on interface, it says not supported....

We have a backup sup 720 which has a 2 gigabit ethernet though port channel, to another chassis. Suddenly UDLD detected an error and got into err disable, then this err disable didn't let the interface set to DOWN, and created a switch loop, then our Supervisor reloaded. I'd like to know what could have caused this reload. In my opinion could have a been the switch loop, but also I've been checking from the output interpreter the show tech and might have been a bug, the only one that could match in IOS version 12.2(33)SXH, is this one: url...
We're going to disable err-disable next time I guess and recover the link manually, apart from that what could have made the sup for crash and reload?
Our router suddenly reloaded. Below are the crashinfo obtained:
