I have an Issue. In my networks, 1 single user is facing Network Slowness issue. i needs to check to which port user is coneected in switch to CHeck whether that port has any errors. But problem is, i am providing support from remote location. And my concern LAN segment is Very big,I have only user Ip address details, when i ping the Ip address from Core switch it is pinging. but when i give show ip arp & give Ip address then its not learning and listing out the Mac address to trace down to the specific port.

We have two 6500 core switches and one(primary) of them is running in VTP transparesnt mode and the other (secondary) one is running in VTP client mode. I would like to change the VTP mode of the second switch to transparent mode. Would it cause any issue. I guess i have to create VLANs onto the switch.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am planning to migrate the core switch from cisco 3750 to Cisco catalysts 6513 switch. What could be the best approach to minimize the downtime or avoid disrupting the production. I have couple of thoughts, one method is to build the core and then replace the existing core, another option is to build the new switch as the second VTP server and once it recieves all the VTP information then disconnect the old server.

On the supervisor card of a cisco 6500 series, according to the following link, [URL] it only has 2 uplink ports on the card. Would I be correct in assuming that I only have those to ports that I can configure IP addresses on?
The cisco that is being devlivere is coming with a 48 port switch and 24 port fibre switch. Could I change any of those ports into a router port and configure IP addresses on those?
The supervisor card is a ws-sup-720-3b the 48 port switch is a ws-x6748-ge-tx the 24 port fibre switch is ws-x6724-sfp

View 5 Replies View RelatedWe are using CISCO Catalyst 6500 switches as collapsed core/distribution switches (2 layer architecture). I want to connect approximatly 10 application servers to the network. Can I connect the servers directly to the catalyst 6500 switches using WS-X6148E-GE-TX line cards? The other option is to use access switchs and then connect the servers to the catalyst 6500 through access switch(Catalyst 3750).

Is there is any tool to filter which port is connected to which server with its mac address and IP?
i cant find any difference in these two devices when i am trying to compare throughput.I need upgrade our new POP and there will be around 4900 MAC adresses in VLAN 150 and 130 MAC adresses in vlan 200.Uplink is 1 gig routed internet connection and there is 14 downlinks to separate villages.i found a few differences for eg stack interface on 3750x but i dont need it.

1. Could i use two core switch 6500 with single mode fiber as a transport equipment?
2. Or i need to use SDH equipment because of the distance concern? If so do i need a repeater?Could i use Cisco Metro Core ONS, which one?

I have a Cisco 1941 K9 Router. I want to add POE functionaltiy to it. Specifically I want a 4 port EHWIC POE switch to power a couple of AP's.
This is what I understand I need; Upgrade/replace the internal power supply with PWR-1941-POE power supply, This is supplied with a fan replacement also (not yet purchased).buy 1 x EHWIC-4ESG (4 port switch)buy 1 x ILPM-4 (inline daughter card / power supply board) I think the real question here is the 4 port switch... there are two types available one is EHWIC-4ESG=the other is EHWIC-4ESG-P=
Is there any difference between these two switch modules? or are they the same and the more expensive "P" version is simply supplied with the ILPM-4 daughter card for POE?
I have recieved via courier today 1 x EHWIC-4ESG, and found a ILPM-4 on ebay for a good price. WIll this provide POE through the switch EHWIC-4ESG?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a new 6513 with 2 sup32's with IOS. This chassis will replace a working 6513 with 2 sup2's with CatOS.I would like to convert my CatOS running configs to IOS, and I know there used to be a tool for this.
I have searched around and found many broken links to an old Cisco tool to convert my former configs, is there any way to get this tool today? I have tried over 20 links and not been able to find a working one yet.
we are replacing network equipment at one of our sites. The network will have 12, 3750X switches(6 stacks) - one stack will be the core. A 1002 will be the WAN router to the Main campus. The 1002 will connect to the core via 2 ethernet cables. I'm debating whether to use L3 or L2 between the router and Core. I've heard that routing is more efficient if L3 is used and also I will be able to create an L3 etherchannel between the 1002 and Core switch. See the attached doc.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI need your input on how to appropriately introduce an N5K with Jumbo enanbled to a prexisting Core Network (Stack of Cisco 3750G Switches) without making any major alteration on the Core configs (everything is happy). The idea is to move two High I/O servers to the N5K during a transitional phase. I already have a fair understanding of what Jumbo-Frames are and what it does. Keep Jumbo-Frames within the N5K ONLY.
Conditions:
- Traffic is Data traffic, not storage/iSCSI
- The servers host our ERP applications and MySQL that is accessed heavily by users
- N5K to C3750G connectivity is a Port-Channel consisting of 4x1GB ports
- The servers are to remain on VLAN 2 (Data VLAN)
- The Core Switch is L3 and the boundaries reside here
I want to deploy the C3750X 24-port SFP switch as the core switch in a large Layer 2 switching domain. The switch will need to run:
+/- only 10 large VLANs, 6 VLANs with HSRP
+/- 500 MACs total
+/- 5 OSPF sessions default timers
standard PVST+ (no Rapid PVST+)i need around 27 SFP ports (24 + 4 on network module=28=ok, extra capacity by stacking)
Looking at the switching capacity of the specs (160 Gbps) this is much better than a C6500 with SUP32-GE !Will it be able to handle this or should i look for C6500+SUP32GE or C6500-SUP720 or maybe even C4500 ?
We have cisco 4510R+E switch with IOS-XE Software Version 03.01.01.SG RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1).Our this switch is having two core & one core is always going to about 90% to 98% cpu utilization while other core is showing normal (about 5% to 10%),we check with-This switch is gateway of our LAN.
View 6 Replies View Relatedwe are using cisco 6509 series switches as core switches. and Cisco 4510,4507 series switches as edge switches. all the vlans are created at core switches and propogating to edge switches through VTP. we are using OSPF as routing protocol at core switch for internal routing. till now we are using 4510,4507 switches as layer 2 switches. Since, 4510 & 4507 switches are hign end swithces i want use them as layer 3 switches instead of layer 2.if i change these switches from layer 2 to layer 3 does it make any impact on our network or better to keep them as layer 2 switches.if i change these switches to layer 3 is there any advantage i will have.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to decide what switch to use as a core for 500 users. I'm currently looking at either 2 x 3750X stacks or 2 x 4500s with dual SUPs and PSUs, both options will provide the number of switchports required without the need for additonal access layer swiches. Which switch option is best to go for here? All of our services will be located in our data centre which will be connected using 2 1000Mbps MPLS circuits. I wont need any advanced L3 features and we are not likley to scale over 450 users. Also is it ok to use the dual switch stacks or chassis to provide the collapsed core/access layer or is it best to have a dedicated core (using one of the above options with less switchports) and having a dedicated accesss layer using 2960Gs for example. Our structured cabling terminates in a single comms room so we wont need to distribute switches throughout the office.
