Cisco Switching/Routing :: Ping Break Between ASA 5550 / 2911 (directly Connected Via Ethernet)

Aug 15, 2012

we have the following setup for our network :
UserNetwork - ASA5550 - WAN Router 2911 - ISP Netowrk - Branch Routers 877s / 1941s
Since last week we started noticing this problem that the branch users started to complain of slow application response.. After verifying it with the ISP and middle network we noticed that if i ping from my machine (ie usernetwork) to the WAN Router interface (facing the ASA) , i get time outs..  which is strange cause this is directly connected to it via ethernet cable.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Migrating Core Switch From 3750 To 6500?

Jun 5, 2013

I am planning to migrate the core switch from cisco 3750 to Cisco catalysts 6513 switch. What could be the best approach to minimize the downtime or avoid disrupting the production. I have couple of thoughts, one method is to build the core and then replace the existing core, another option is to build the new switch as the second VTP server and once it recieves all the VTP information then disconnect the old server.

Due to cabling issues, we have a switch (Switch F) that we can't connect directly to the 3750X so we have it connected through another switch. Everything is set to VTP client with the correct domain and password but this not-directly-connected switch isn't receiving any VTP VLANs.
Anything I need to do on Switch D so that Switch F can receive the VTP updates?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Trigger Packet Drop On WS-C4948

Feb 25, 2013

I am running  (cat4500-ENTSERVICES-M), Version 12.2(53)SG2 on the switch. I have a scenario where I have 3 end user equipments connected to a Cisco 4948 L3 switch. At the switch end port 1/46, 1/47, 1/48 are the terminating points for these 3 devices . I have added these three ports to VLAN140 (switch port access vlan140 on the gig interfaces).

The device connected to 1/46 is the one I'm testing some signalling features on. My requirement is to have intermittent packet drop on this interface so that my signalling associations would go down now and then. I'm trying to simulate a real-time network congestion/latency/packet drop in a simple manner.

I do not want to shut/no shut the 1/46 intf to cause this. Some way to achieve intermittent packet drop on this gig1/46 intf ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 Configure Switch Layer 3 Port Connected To Firewall

Feb 26, 2012

I have a switch layer 6500  series connected to a firewall, the port configuration between them is  layer 2, in another words I do not configure an IP address in the Cisco  switch port to conected it in the firewall, but when a apply a policy on  firewall it lose communication with others vlans, just the vlan that is  connected between the switch and firewall works, attachment the design.  I think that is necessary to configure the connection between the  firewall and switch as layer 3 ( a port with IP address in the switch),  but I would like to know why? The switch is configured with about 10  vlan and it is a inter vlan routing, a default route is configured in  the switch where the gateway is the firewall.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3950 - High Latency And Packet Drop Towards Access Switches?

Jan 27, 2013

My network Infrastructure consists of 2 core switches(cisco 3950, 24 port) and 3 access switches (cisco 2960G, 48port). No distribution layer. Both Core switches are connected to the BVI of a VPN router.PVST is running in all switches. The STP results are all good. We have 3 VLAN's in the LAN an IP routing is enables in the core switch. The network diagram is attached.
The issue we are facing is that , we get intermittent packet drops while pinging towards the access switches, and there is always a higher latency towards these assess switches. These issues are present even with no other users using the LAN. But these issues are not present while pinging towards the GW.
I guess, it is because of this, we have issues the accessing file server in the LAN. How do we go ahead with the troubleshooting. Will upgrading the IOS resolve this. The present version details is..
WS-C2960G-48TC-L   12.2(44)SE6           C2960-LANBASEK9-M

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Randomly Devices Will Drop Offline And Then Come Back

Aug 28, 2012

I have a network that has a pair of 6500 switches on either end, running HSRP. In between each 6500 are two to three ruggedcom switches. They are connected to each other and the 6500's by trunk ports in a straight line. The 6500's see each other as CDP neighbors, and the 6500's can see the rugged- com as LLDP neighbors (ruggedcom only supports LLDP).
The issue is that randomly devices on the ruggedcoms will drop offline and then come back. The problem is that the devices that drop offline are all in the same VLAN, so it appears like a virus -  i.e. one device drops off, then multiple. Eventually the HSRP starts flapping between the two 6500s and this causes havoc on the network.I'm almost to the point of taking a laptop and plugging it into one of the ruggedcom's to see traffic, but the issue is that the ruggedcoms are outside in cabinets that laptops shouldnt be exposed to.

Cisco WAN :: 2800 Can't Ping Directly Connected Devices

I'm trying to configure a 2800 series router. .I'm consoled in and put a basic config on the router (see attached). After putting this basic config on, I plugged it into a small unmanaged switch, changed my laptop's IP and plugged it in the switch also. I can't ping the router from the laptop and vice versa. This is the second switch I've tried this with, so it must be.The first switch, I installed at location, connected a cisco cable to it and a local server, so i could remote in and finish configuration. In that scenario, I had plugged the switch into a managed switch and had the same result as I'm getting now--can't ping IP addresses (can't ping the switch's IP, not can it ping local IPs).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: VPC Pair Of Nexus 7K And Servers Connected Directly

Jan 9, 2012

My Data Center has one single core switch where is connected several servers, one port is the link to the router wan and other port is the link to the FW, my boss wants to install 2 nexus in order to replace the single switch. All my network has only one address, for example if I connect two nexus 7010 in VPC and Domain, each nexus is going to has 2 modules with 48 port 10/100/1000 rj45 and i wan to connect servers directly to each nexus, with this figure i'm going to have a group of servers connected in two different nexus, Do they can have the same network considering that the nexus are in the same vdc and vlan and have only one gateway for both groups? If the answer is positive, which nexus would be the gate way for that address, the primary or secondary? Or i must have a different address for both group of servers, i mean for example and each nexus would be the gateway for that new address?
To have two nexus connected by VPC in a Domain mean that one computer connected to one nexus can share the same address or vlan with other computer connected to the other nexus????

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Receiving CDP Packets From Switches Not Directly Connected

Jun 27, 2010

A specific switch port which happens to be part of a 2 switch 3750 Switch Stack is seeing multiple CDP packets from 3 extra switch port interfaces that are not directly connected. Noteworthy is that the far end devices have the correct CDP entries and I physically confirmed at least two of those connections that lead to the switch "upstream to the culprit switch". Tricky part is that its production so room for maneuvering is limited. At some point I disabled all Ports save for the real uplink and the problem momentarily disappeared. Re-enable the interfaces problem resurfaces. Is there an explanation, technique to eliminate the culprit with minimal disruption?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7206VXR - WCCP Redirection Of Non-directly Connected Subnets

Jul 18, 2012

I have a Cisco 7206VXR running 12.4(24)T3 IOS. It is configured with WCCPv2 using L2 mask redirection. I am using service groups and associated extended ACLs to select which subnets I want to redirect port 80 traffic from.
It is working fine for the subnet
int gi0/2
ip wccp 10 redirect in
ip address
... however, there is OSPF running between the router and a Mikrotik device directly connected to this interface. The gateway addresses for all the client subnets are on the Mikrotik. Traffic from other subnets, e.g., come in on this interface and I want to redirect those too. But it appears that the redirection doesn't work for those subnets (I don't see any hits on the relevant ACL for any subnet except
It seems like the router only wants to redirect traffic for subnets that it has an IP address in itself. Admittedly, all of the example configs i've found on are for redirecting traffic from directly connected subnets but I can't find anything that denies thie possibility of redirecting any traffic that comes in on a given interface.
The question is, is this how WCCPv2 redirection works? i.e., the router must have an IP address in the subnet to be redirected?
