Cisco VPN :: 857 / EzVPN Sometimes Ping Only In One Direction Or Interface

Jan 14, 2013

I have lots of 857's routers in the field with mostly the latest OS - 12.4(15)T17 making ezVPN connections to a 2951 with 15.1(4)M5.All the 857's have lookback and vlan interfaces similar to :

interface Loopback0
ip address 50.43.8.1 255.255.255.255
ip tcp adjust-mss 1452
end

[code]....

Now lately for some or other reason we have instances where I can ping either the VLAN or the LOOPBACK interface, but not both. Or I have instances where the 2951 can ping all the interfaces on the 857, but the 857 can not ping the 2951. Or I have instances where the 2951 can not ping the 857, but the 857 can ping the 2951.The way I have been fixing this is either to add crypto ipsec client ezvpn SMS_VPN inside to the loopback interface, or if it is there already to remove it. This usually works for a few days, but then suddenly I have to reverse this again. If that does not work then I usually do lots of clear crypt sess and/or clear crypt ipsec client ezvpn on the 857, or clear crypt sess remote 857_ip_address from the 2951 and then suddenly it starts working again.

Cisco VPN :: SRP527W IPSec VPN Tunnel Works One Way / Can Ping Other Direction Too

Aug 2, 2012

I have a IPSec tunnel that is working in one direction. Below is the router config from the side that can connect to the other  side perfectly. I believe the issue is with this router as while I was  waiting on delivery for the ASA I had an SRP527W sitting in it's place  and had exactly the same problem. On one side I have a 887VA router and the other an ASA5505.The network behind the 887VA can access the remote site perfectly, backup services are traversing the link as are web interfaces for applications. In the other direction I can ping hosts but cannot connect. What else is interesting is if from the remote site I attempt to connect to a particular device that performs a port redirect the remote site browser gets so far as being redirected to port 5000 but then hangs.

I am seeing some very generic packet drop debug notices on the 887va on the NAT-ACL access list but I think this is as it should be as it is dropping the tunnel traffic from the NAT'ing. The config for the router is here, I will post the ASA config when I get to the other site shortly but I am convinced the issues is on this device, all the crypto configurations match.I have looked at the MTU's on each side, the path MTU on both sides is 1492. The asa does say the media MTU is 1500 but I believe that is the ADSL link so shouldnt matter?I even went so far as installing CCP and testing the VPN. It says the tunnel is up. It did state a failure:A ping with data size of this VPN interface MTU size and 'Do  not Fragment' bit set to the other end VPN device is failing. This may  happen if there is a lesser MTU network which drops the 'Do not  fragment' packets. [code]

Cisco WAN :: 857 EZVPN - Cannot Ping Anything From Remote To Server

Mar 14, 2012

We have a VPN using 857 and 877 routers as remote connecting in to a 2800 EZVPN Server.

The VPN is working fine. However, the VPN connections sometimes (after a few hours/days) seem to "freeze". A "show crypt sess" shows the connections as Up/Active, but you can not ping antyhing from remote to server, or visa versa, nor does any traffic flow. I then added a "isakmp keep-alive" on the 2800, which improved the situation a bit, but not as much as I hoped.

On the 877 I then implemented a IP SLA, with Object Tracking and then use a Event Manager to just issue a "clear crypto session" . This solved the problem.

However, what do I do on the 857 ? It does not support Object Tracking or the Event Manager. Is there any other mechanism to monitor and reset these frozen/stale VPN connections automatically ?

However, tunnel to Spoke one(10.10.1.1) keep bouncing on and off(see below). Every 30 sec or so, the tunnel gone back to IKE phase while tunnel for spoke two(5.5.5.1) still leave active. THe configuration on the HUB side is the same for both spoke!! show crypto ipsec sec shows both side has the same life time(IOS default). Could that be an IOS debug on the spoke one?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G Can Ping Devices In Enterprise LAN But Cannot Ping Interface

Mar 31, 2012

I have a new 3560G to set up a small network for a remote site. I configured the vlan and an SVI as the gateway. The switch is also the DHCP server for the LAN. I configured Gi0/2 as L3 port, connecting to the nearest neighbor. My network runs EIGRP so i advertised the routes into the EIGRP process. The switch forms EIGRP neighbors and learns all routes in the enterprise network. The problems I'm having now are: 1. The switch learns all routes in my enterprise LAN and can ping devices in the enterprise LAN, but I can’t ping any interface on the switch from the enterprise LAN. 2.

Cisco WAN :: 881 VPN Server Connected But Cannot Ping LAN Interface

Dec 11, 2010

I've configured a lot vpn server for 857/1800, etc. But this has never happened.I configured 881 as VPN server using CP.Shared key, local group and local user authetication with split route.Local pool 192.168.100.1-254? I have acl for telnet which allows local pool IPs.I have acl to deny local network to local pool IPs for NAT.I've deleted the whole settings and re-run the wizard. It's still the same thing. I can connect from the VPN Client, but no traffic going through. The problem to me is isakmp with DPD. But why it is dead? Why no response from the server? If it is an error, why connection has no problem.

Cisco VPN :: Can't Ping Inside Interface Of 5510

Sep 19, 2012

I have recently installed an ASA5510 at a site in South Africa to connect via VPN to a site in the UK (ASA5520).  The VPN comes up fine with the 5520 in the UK, however, I can not connect to the inside interface over the VPN, but can access it from the internal LAN.  All other hosts on the LAN are accessible over the VPN.

The 5510 also has another VPN to another site in SA and the 2nd site cannot ping the interface either.

Cisco Firewall :: 5520 - Cannot Ping Through Outside Interface

Feb 3, 2013

I cannot seem to ping from the outside of my 5520 firewall to an inside network. I have a single physical outside interface connected to a Layer 2 switch, with a laptop connected to it. This is on network 10.11.131.0/28. From there, I cannot ping to the inside interface (which is a sub interface on G0/0) with network 10.11.130.0/24/ For some reason, it doesnt work.

Now. I had access-lists in place, but have removed them for testing and it still doesnt work. I have set the security level of inside and outside to 100, and entered the same-security-traffic permit inter-interface command - still no joy. Below is the relevant configuration.

Cisco WAN :: 2801 Ping To Router LAN Interface

Feb 7, 2012

I have one problem doing a ping to a router lan interface, I have 3 routers (2801) connected between each other (separated 1 mile each), the link is established trough microwave signals (connected to the 2801 fast ethernet interfaces), every router has a connection to a LAN. One of them is located at headquarters.Last thursday I replace one of the router with a cisco 2901, i configure the router with the same configuration that was on the 2801, i power up the router and the 2 link were up without problems. One day after the noc called me to tell me that after i replace the router they can't ping the router IP lan interface on the new 2901 (before the replacement the ping was sucessful). I called one user the lan connected to that 2901, and they can do a ping to the router's LAN IP address.

I can ping the 2901 IP wan interfaces, I can ping the LAN users ip address, but i cannot ping the router LAN IP address, from my desktop, and neither the 2 routers 2801 connected to the 2901.I show the configuration on the 2901, I couldn't change it because i didn't have time to do that, but i'll change the configuration to use ipsec tunnels. The configuration as you can see, has a crypto map, but the acl used by the crypto map, only permits the interfaces ip address, so i think that doesn't work, so the traffic doesn't get encrypted, but i don't know if that is the problem why i can't do a ping to the lan interface. ASA 5505 - Can't Ping Any VLAN Interface

I'm trying to set up a Guest VLAN for wireless at a client site, and I feel like I'm missing something small in the configuration, since I can't ping any of the VLAN interfaces from my laptop when the address is statically set to something in the 172.20.100.x range.

I've pasted the configs for the ASA 5505 and the 6 switches below for convenience. Near as I can tell, all should be well. The ports are in trunking mode, the "show cdp neighbors" command returns the proper information, VLAN 100 exists on all the switches, etc.

Cisco Security :: Fan Direction In ASA5510

Jan 16, 2012

I'm using a couple of ASA5510's since a few years in a few datacenters, and I wonder about the following:

Usually the ASA's are positioned with the connectors facing to the back of the 19" cabinets, so one can easily connect the device to other networking-hardware. In many datacenters nowadays, cold-coridors are used, which results in a forced airflow through the cabinet, which is empowered by the fans in the servers itself. But the ASA's are permanently blowing air in the opposite direction, and are also taking the air from the part of the cabinet where the air is as hot as it gets.

Is it a good practice to open up the ASA and flip the fans 180 degrees to solve this?

Cisco :: Unable To Access ASA5510 - Cannot Ping Interface

Oct 22, 2012

I have been working on figuring out a VPN problem on my companies ASA5510. I was accessing the device via: ASDM, SSH using Putty, and even initially with a console cable (also using Putty) using a computer in the networking closet. All 3 of these access methods worked properly for me.I believe I may have inadvertently changed something as of Friday using ASDM. I am mostly assuming this because, as of yesterday I can no longer connect to the device. I actually cannot even communicate with it (ping the interface I normally use to manage, which I could previously ping). No computer on the same subnet as me is able to ping the interface. The device is still accepting VPN connections, dishing out DHCP addresses and everything else it normally does, but I really need to be able to gain access to it again. I am thinking to reboot the device when there is some downtime, in the hopes that ASDM doesn't save to startup-config and only to running-config.

Cisco Firewall :: Can Ping ASA5520 Outside Interface But Cannot Connect To Other

Nov 5, 2012

So I have a client with an ASA 5520 running version 9.0 (was on 8.4) that I am trying to get either IPSec or SSL VPN configured on.  I got everything setup and tried to connect.  However, I couldn't connect to either.  I fired up the real time monitoring and didn't see any syslog messages referring to a VPN build up.  I also enabled SSH/Telnet on the outside interface and cannot connect to the ASA outside interface.  I can ping the outside interface and can ping the internet from the ASA.  I did set up a test ACL on the ASA and ran packet tracer on it and the results came back fine.

There is an IPS in the ASA as well, but I disabled the ACL for that and still am having these issues.  Part of me wonders if the ISP has something set up to block inbound traffic.  This should be a business class connection.

Cisco VPN :: Catalyst 2911 - S2S VPN Only Works In One Direction

The office's gateway is 66.119.163.2 and the device is a TZ210 with it's LAN network being 192.168.1.0 /24
The co-los gateway is 204.244.50.254 and the device is an ASR 2911 with it's LAN network being 10.0.10.0 /24

The S2S VPN connection is up between the two locations and the 2911 device and the servers within it's LAN can ping and RDP to the office's machines.  The office network can only ping the LAN interface IP on the 2911 which is 10.0.10.1 but not the servers in the network.  the site-to-site VPN was set up with the CCP wizard.

How can I allow the 192.168.1.0/24 network to see the 10.0.10.1/24 network and why do I only currently see the gateway?

If need be I can post my running-config file with the preshare keys redacted.
