We have a ASA 5505 setup with VPN and using Cisco client 5.0. The VPN works without a problem if we use normal internet access (from home, motel, etc). However if we use a cellular wi-fi hotspot or tether a phone it will connect to the vpn but will not allow us to get on the office network

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 older xp pro tough books that connect to my domain via a pair of versa vx 400 access points. automobile technicians use these computers to communicate with cars via a separate wireless card and WiFi device (SPX MVXI) that broadcasts a wireless signal.they always connect just fine to the network but sometimes they drop there connection and don't rejoin which screws up my scheduled tasks (nightly upload). They will reacquire the connection every time if i select it again manually in the windows wireless config.here is what I have done so far
1. set up exclusion range in DHCP distribution on my DC
2. set the laptops up with static IP's within the exclusion range.
3. configured the laptops to auto connect to the network even when its not broadcasting
4. set the access points on channel 7, and the devices on 1 and 11.
I have done a lot of research on this issue, a rep from versa told me that Intel proset wireless isn't very compatible with there product which i this is BS since it does the same with with the netgear WiFi PC cards.
No Network connection after Office 2010 install, I have limmited or no connectivity. I've removed and reloaded drivers, reset router, performed a netsh flush, tried to manually connect, kicked it, threw something at the wall and still no luck.

Unmanaged switch like D-link & Linksys was used and it worked pretty fine only for certain areas of the factory. Then office with more workers will be using managed switch to ensure the workers have decent connection to the local server.
Question is, why are some small offices' connection so ridiculously slow?

Tested - The main connection cable cannot go through the switch to distribute the connection. Even if there is only 1 PC linked to the switch, it will still be slow. It will be at it's max if it didnt go through the switch, but directly to the PC instead.
True enough that unmanaged switch aren't smart enough to allocate the speed, but why is it possible for some other part of the small office to have fast connection even by using the normal unmanaged switch?

I am trying to set up a VPN access to the office Windows network by setting the pptp options in the WAN area of the networks settings.
I have entered the public IP address of the office network and also the username and password required by the system. When clicking on the connect button the router attempts to connect but then returns a "disconnected" message.
I operate a network of sites for a state air monitoring program. One site has two trailers that were previously connected with a wireless ethernet bridge. I installed a cellular router to give them internet access, and they were both able to utilize the connection through the LAN. The ethernet bridge recently went down, and I tried replacing it with a standard wireless router and wireless adapter I purchased from Staples (I needed something right away). When I linked the two trailers with a wireless network connection, it disconnected the LAN and I was unable to access the internet. Is it possible to do this? I'm assuming a wireless ethernet bridge would be better, and also the cellular router does not have a wireless function on it, or I would assume that would be best?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with a branch office setup, and I can't for the life of me think of what the problem is.I have a remote office setup, using an ASA 5505 that is set up to establish an easy vpn connection to the central network. The connection at the branch office is a 20/5 cable modem, the central network has a 25/25 fiber connection.
The issue I have is this. Wired clients work fine at this branch office, at least 95% of the time. I have a lightweight AP there that can come up and join the controllers at the central network, no problem. I haven't done anything with H-REAP because there are really no resources locally they need that would allow them to do their work, so all traffic is tunneled back to the WLC.
Wireless clients can authenticate to the AP, and I can get 15-20ms ping responses from them all day. Latency never comes close to the 600ms proposed limit with CAPWAP. Yet, for some reason the performance of the clients is problematic. Webpages will frequently not load correctly, they experience some freezing, and with one application we use - it refuses to load completely.If we bring these same computers to an AP connected to our central network, on the same SSID, they work flawlessly.
Something about this particular location is causing a lot of grief for our users.For what it's worth, we are running WCS 7.0.230.0 and the WLCs are on 7.0.116.0. The ASA is running a pretty basic configuration, pretty much out of the box with the easy vpn configuration entered.

The datacenter has a 5520, and the branches are connected through IPSec L2L VPNs. Branches all have 5505 or 5510's. Remote users use IPSec via the Cisco remote Client. Remote access into our data center works, and the L2L VPNs are perfect...just now that i need remote users to access the branches after Remote access VPNing (for support) i cant get that part to work.

The main local network uses a Cisco 800 router to connect to the Internet via DSL and there is an IPsec VPN tunnel to our main office.
When a user is connected to the network via a wired connection, all systems work as expected. If they are on wireless, they cannot connect to services at the main office. They must make a PPTP VPN connection for applications to function.
The WAP2000 has the latest firmware 2.0.4.0. It has a static IP on the local subnet.
I lost my network connection after installing Microsoft office 2010.. what can I do to get it back ? I know it is this as i have been fussing with my computer all day.. I created a system restore point just before I installed it.. had network connection.. installed office 2010 and now once I rebooted I dont.. I am running Win 7 enterprise.

Actually, I had no problems with my USR 8054 wireless router before I decided to replace the router with an 'N' one as I experienced some connection loss on my mac book pro(mac osx 10.8) thru USR 8054. The internet connection I have is from a wall socket in my office. I know the hub/router/switch or whatever behind has no DCHP activated because the device connected to that socket cannot get an IP, you must enter it manually together with gateway, DNS etc.. and the values are as

Whenever I enter these on my USR's 'static IP configuration' via quick setup and plug the Ethernet cable from the wall socket to the WAN, it works and the router immediately starts to let me surf on the net wireless. However, the same procedure has never succeeded on my Tp-link with its latest original firmware or dd-wrt. It even says no cable connected although it is connect from the wall socket to its WAN.I also tried to connect my computer directly to the wall socket with a regular Ethernet cable and entered the ip, gateway etc manually. It didn't work at first, then I changed IPv6 setting from ''auto'' to ''local connection only'' and I was able connect to the internet with no trouble.
My current IT people are so expensive, I am determined to hook up a new laptop to my office network if it destroys me (wirelessly). I have the office network map with all usernames, passwords, and IP addresses...but I can't figure it out. Can someone give me a step by step for dummies to save me the several hundred or should I just bite the bullet? (I am the business owner and seems like we add laptops every year or so and desktops and would really love to finally understand)

My current set-up is: my laptop connects to the coaxial outlet with a cable so I can access the internet. So I can't really bring it somewhere else since the cable is short.
Now, I am planning to buy 2 more computers and a printer. The printer will be shared by all 3 computers. what else I need to buy (modem?? wireless router??) and what type. I also request that you let me know how to set it up. Of course, I will follow the manufacturer's instructions.
I would like to connect my three pcs together so that they can all make use of the printers, scanners, internet etc in my office space. i also need to be able to access this lot from a remote laptop so that i can continue to work from home. i would like to store all my data in one place that was easily accessible from every PC and my laptop.

First a little history, I have an electronics degree and a certificate in computer technology, so computers are not something new to me, however networking IS.I have a VERY LIMITED budget to work with, which I'm sure is not unheard of before, with the following equipment already available:
1 MFP currently on lease connected via network
3 totally junk PCs running 3 different versions of Windows from XP to 7
A DSL internet connection
A wireless router
A wired 8 port switch
What I would like to do is begin with a basic server, 7 clients, shared internet on all machines (including external via login), An MFP, at least 1 NAS for data storage, 1 NAS for backup of all drives.
In Outlook 2003, I am receiving mail from all others on the office network except one person and wondering what I can check to fix this
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhat are the best network engineering practises for a small/medium sized office?Currently I have set it up like this:The top floor has all the sales people, each desk has a hub underneath which connects all computers at that desk together, and the hum is connected to a switch under the floor. There are about about 8 desks each with about 4 computers, so 8 hubs.They all go into a 10/100 switch, which is then connected to an 1gb switch on the bottom floor via a 1gb port on the top floor switch, via a cat6 cable.We then have internet > modem > router > the 1gb switch. Our main server is also connected to that switch along with all the computers for the ground floor, except these computers have 1gb switches under the desks instead of hubs. The main server is the DHCP, DC, DNS and file server. We have also setup another server which acts as a backup DC and is also a DNS server.Is there anything wrong with this configuration? We have been having problems with the router losing connection to the internet and warnings on the main DNS server.

I have two Brother MFC printers, one is a laser (MFC-9420CN) connected w/ a Cat-5 directly to the router, the other is an ink-jet MFC-6490CN and I would like to use it wireless....but I could connect it to the router if I need to.I have wireless connection to the internet, from my HP 32-bit PC (running Vista-Ultimate), but can not see either of the printers on the network, and cannot print to either. I manually configured both to have an IP within the range of my network, but they still do not work.The problem (I think) could be with the IPCONFIG. (I had no problem last year, but we recently had a few power outages, and now the PC doesn't seem to 'see' any of the printers.) I checked the IPCONFIG. it states 'media disconnected', but I can ping the one wireless printer??? I can not ping the laptop on the network or the laser printer (I confirmed it's ipconfig before pinging).
I know the network card can't be bad, or I couldn't get to the router to access the internet. I also went into the cmd prompt as the administrator and did the /release/renew/all but that didn't work either.
I presently have a fiber internet connection to my office with about 40 wireless users on a single AP. The connection keeps dropping. Probably due to too many users on a single AP?

My question is similar to aniketchitale's, can get another wireless router, create a different SSID (eg. router1 and router2), but both wireless routers still connected to the same fiber connection. In other words, I would like to segregate the first 20 users to router 1 and the next 20 users to router 2.
2. By having 2 wireless routers each with their unique SSID, will all the users still be able to access to the same printer in the office?
