Cisco WAN :: 2811 - Configuring ISDN Backup Connectivity
Jun 13, 2011
I have configured Cisco 2811 and 3825 routers to connect the main and remote sites as per the attached topology. At the main site, the Cisco 3825 router is equipped with SFP ports (HWIC-1GE-SFP with GLC-LH-SM=) for fiber optic connectivity and also has a HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI installed The Cisco 2811 routers at the remote sites are each equipped with a WIC-1SHDSL-V3 module for SHDSL connectivity and with a WIC-1B-S/T-V3 for backup ISDN connectitivty.
In normal time the routers are using the SHDSL to Fiber optic connectitivty for communication. This has already been configured and is working. Now, there is a need to implement a backup connection between these sites such that in case the SHDSL or fiber optic connectivity fails, the routers should automatically dial up the backup ISDN connectivity so as to ensure business continuity.
we have a Cisco 1801 at one of our remote sites that uses an ADSL line for it's primary connection and ISDN as backup. Despite no apparent problems with the ADSL line the ISDN is repeatedly dialling the internet every 2-3 mins during office hours and considerable expense to the customer.
I have senario where 15 branches via bri connection to central ISDN E1 Pri Head office. The setup is working before and suddenly branches not able to dial head office.Below is the debug q931 logs from branch router and i am getting continous "channel not avalible message on Head office

what is the simplest way to create backup WAN connection?I have setup 2 WAN connection(2 ISP, 1 is DIA w/ fix ip, 2 is 3G), but if I enable both interface ,then I unplug WAN 1. no traffic goes to WAN 2.I have already have 3G connection enable all the time (w/ command "dialer persistent") Cisco 2811+ Cisco-HWIC-3G,
I have a 2811 ISR configured to provide the following services to my network: Internet access to LAN usersCisco Call Manager ExpressSite-to-stie VPN to 3rd party networksVPN server to provide VPN access to remote usersSecurity Zone configurationsStatic NAT configurations. Now I recently just got the ASA5510 device and I am not sure how to go about with the setup, whether to put the ASA in between the internet and the ISR (Internet - ASA - ISR - LAN), or put the ISR in between the internet and the ASA (Internet - ISR - ASA - LAN)? While i know I can move most of the config unto the ASA, i know that the CME cannot be moved, hence I would like to do the setup such that users on the network still have access to CME.
Pool of oeap 600 aps 1x 2504WLC as OEAP WLC (@DMZ) 1x ASA 5515
Scenario:
My OEAP WLC located at ASA - DMZ is NATted to a public ip (primary internet ISP), then my pool of OEAP-600 were configured to communicate with this OEAP WLC.
My question is:
I want to automate the failover of OEAP-600 (I don't know if this is possible) to the secondary internet ISP whenever the primary internet ISP fails. The secondary ISP is terminated on the same ASA 5515-X doing PBR and IP SLA stuff.
I know that OEAP 600 can only be pointed to one WLC ip address I know that the WLC can only be NATted to one public IP address.
What would be the best solution to perform the OEAP backup connectivity? Or just buy another set of WLC/ASA then just manually configure the OEAP-600 APs to point to the secondary ISP.
We have a few remote sites that connect back to HQ with T1 & DMVPN (Cable/DSL) for data. Our CM Publisher/Subscriber reside in HQ. We recently installed FXS cards in these routers to provide Fax functionality to our remote sites since we will be removing some POTS lines.
Can we register the 2811 as a voice gateway (I am thinking MGCP as with VG224's we have in production) and have it handle faxes with FXS card as well as route data or will we need a separate device for this?

My Cisco 2811 router starts to hang & give the following error. "Original nvconfig doesn't have a correct magic number recovering from backup."I need to fix it ASAP.I've already enter common & change confreg to 0x2142 & reset but same problem occur.
2 VLANS are configured on 2811 and terminated on 2960 switch on two ports, not a trunk configuration. Each Port is configured as a VLAN on the switch. Speed and Duplex is auto on router and switch still one port turns orange after few minutes. Loss of connectivity when port is turn orange. UTP cable is changed but still we got issue. Loss of connectivity is for 30 seconds then link is solid green for next 7 - 10 mins and back again orange (time out)
I have a cisco 1941 ISR router and I am trying to configure a router to allow a modem for "Offband or Out of band" access.Below is the configuration on Aux port on Line (n):
line aux 0 login local modem InOut transport input all speed 115200 flowcontrol hardware
I have US Robotics 56k Faxmodem which is connected to aux port of router and I am using USB dialup modem with my laptop to dailin to the router which is connected to a US Robotics Faxmodem. Then I have accessed my USB dialup modem throught HyperTerminal and I can issue all "at" commands and to dialin to the modem I have used the following command atdt914011111111 (atdt followed by country code, area code and landline number)Once I issue the above command it give me message "Connected" and after this I just get a flashing cursor. I cannot do anything nor will it display a username login prompt.
In the existing network we have Cisco 2811 router connected to Corporate MPLS cloud. Cisco 2811 is connected to Catalyst 6509 switch(set based IOS with MSFC card). Along with that we have two Catalyst 5509. We are upgrading the access layer by replacing catalyst switches with Nexus 5548 & 2248.
For a purpose of testing I have connected 5548 & 2248. Created cPC and ether channels between two. SVI and HSRP configuredon 5548. I am terminating 2651 (test router) on 2248 port 101/1/1. On 5548 I have enabled EIGRP on vlans. I am unable to ping to 2651 from nexus switch 5548 and vice-versa. I can see both devices on CDP but I do not see eigrp neighborship formed.
What configuration should go in 2248 and 2651 in order to establish a connection between two? If test is successful then I will connect 2811 to 2248 during actual migration. I assume that in testing if it works for 2651 then it must work on 2811 router.

connecting PRI to BRI interface on ISDN. I have all this information provided by the TELCO and i have configured it but due to some reason i am not able to connect them. I have given the questions with answers provided by the TELCO. I am also providing the running configuration of the PRI interface and also the error message i am getting when trying to test call itself.

I'm trying to configure 2 routers (cisco 886) to create a link between them via ISDN link (in france) but it doesn't work
I think I put a base conf but nothing work : LAN 1 (192.168.220.0/24) => BRI0 (172.23.240.1) Cisco 886 <= ISDN => BRI0 (172.23.240.2) Cisco 886 => LAN 2 (192.168.255.0/24)
both conf are about the same (not IP and phone number) : ... interface BRI0 ip address 172.23.240.1 255.255.255.0 encapsulation ppp dialer idle-timeout 600 dialer string xxxxxxxxxxxxx dialer-group 1 isdn switch-type vn3 (code)
I have a Cisco 2800 series router with E1 PRI module at Head Office, and Cisco 786 with single ISDN BRI port,When I dial from either side only one B channel is up ,means 64 K only.
I have a problem with ISDN BRI-1B-S/T-V3. In the documentation I read: "The ability to add BRI connectivity via a WLC lets administrators maximize valuable slot space while it provides additional connectivity options, such as Ethernet, on the same module." Does it mean that I can plug in the module Ethernet and it will work? I ask, because i have CISCO 1571-V router with this isdn module, i get the internet from Ethernet, and i wonder is there any possibility to use this module as WAN.
Where you get get a modern ISDN modem with at least 4 channels? I am 2 miles from Cable and .5 miles from dsl.ISDN is the only option cause I play games online. Would 256K or 128K Up and Down be enough for playing FPS games on xbox live? I cant find any ISDN modems that are new. Only used ones on ebay that I dont know would work on windows 7.
Both of these ISDNs are up, this gives us 4 channels. Someone said they recieved a busy tone when they attempted to dial out. I looked over the system and seen there are two outbound pots dial-peers. Each dial-peer references one of the BRI ports. The preferences are the same on each dial-peer. I think what is happening is that the system is randomly selecting one of the dial-peers due to the preference, even if both channels of the BRI are in use. How does the system know if that port has both channels in use? I've not used ISDN before, so tried to enter the B-channel sub interface and the system (UC500) tells me I cannot do this. I was thinking about adding each channel into a trunk group and then referencing the trunk group in the dial-peer. I can obviously add both BRI's into one trunk group.
I am trying to move my ISDN dialup branches authentication/authorization from old ACS 4.1 to ISE appliance. Before it was through ACS 4.2 with TACACS protocol but now since we are moving to ISE we are moving them to ISE with radius.
Problem is that isdn client gets authenticated and authorized but calls get dropped and they dont able to communicate with HO. IP address is assigned by Head End router to all remote isdn dialing branches..
I have used default "PermitAccess" in authorization policy and authentication policy is also default. I dont understand where I am going wrong as authentication and authorization is sucessful.

I will install in the next days a 886VA router (VDSL over ISDN using PPoE). Since I have no possibility to verify the VDSL config, this is what i prepared. Is this config OK (only VDSL part) ?
controller vdsl 0 operating mode auto interface Ethernet0 [ code]...
For VDSL over ISDN the interface Ethernet0 must be used instead of ATM . Is this config correct ?
our client are using PSTN (modem) and is dialing up to our ftp box which is using ISDN (TA). according to them, they not facing any problem to dial up to other vendor which is using the same network infra (PSTN to ISDN). but, unfortunately in wont happen in my case which they (client) keep receiving the busy tone when they dialing to our ISDN no. i've set in our TA to accept both digital and analog calls and i'm using the DSS1 protocol which been told by our line provider.
Is it possible to simulate ISDN in a lab using a serial or ethernet interface. I want to setup FR and have ISDN running between a couple of routers with DoD routing.
I have a 2600 with a PRI card, when I try to do an isdn test call int s1/0:23 ######### the debug constantly comes back with "Cause i = 0x83E020 - Mandatory information element missing" Vendor states he doesn't see the SDN 'flag' coming through. I have both the isdn nsf-service, and the dialer map configured to use a class with the outgoing sdn command.
I have a (legacy) bt speedway ISDN card currently in a machine running XPI want to move it to a newer machine running Win 7.Does anybody know how to find the drivers?
I'm trying to dial a Cisco 1841 BRI from my Cisco 2811 PRI. I'm getting a few errors but not sure what else to do to correct the issue. Config & Logs below from 1841:
