I would like to properly configure my L3 to support iSCSi traffic. My L3 acts as an internal router between 4 different sub nets.
I have a iSCSi SAN on my network. A Windows server has Microsoft iSCSi initiators connecting to the SAN.
I haven't worked with infrastructure much lately but planning on replacing a Dell switch used for a small iSCSI SAN with a Cisco 3560x. Switch is sstorage ONLY, network handled through different switches. I believe I want to disable spanning tree and configure trunking for the 4 GB ports connected to the storage array. The switch is providing connectivity to SAN via multiple GB connections and then also multiple GB connections to 3 Vmware hosts.Can you look over the changes I made to config below and let me know if I am on the right track.
I also plan to add a second switch later with the 10GB modules to interconnect for redundancy (but not worried about that part for now). I do not plan on using jumbo frames.
Here are my questions
1) Is the best way to globally disable spanning tree for the switch?
2) Did I trunk the ports correctly below?
3) Should I apply any specific SmartRoles to the 4 SAN NICs (GE1-4) or to host NICs (GE13-20)?
4) Anything additional I should do to handle iSCSI data?

Is there reason why WS-C3560C-8PC-S and WS-C3560C-12PC-S is not supported in Cisco Network Assistent? According to the data sheets for these switches CNA should be supported. I saw another forum post stating that the Gigabit versions has been added to the supported list as of version 5.7."The Cisco Catalyst 3560-C and 2960-C Series compact switches offer both the traditional Cisco CLI for detailed configuration and Cisco Network Assistant software, a PC-based tool for quick configuration based on preset templates."

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm looking at implementing a new DMZ and wanted Netflow capability for security monitoring.The architectural principles I have to adhere to dictate that the switches within the DMZ are layer 2 however to get Netflow I need a minimum of a 3560/3750X, Network Services module, IP Base IOS with ip routing and CEF enabled.To do this and still keep the switch functioning as a layer 2 device the intention was not to configure SVI's or any static/dynamic routing protocols.Will Netflow still work in that scenario?

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs it possible with a 3560 to block all traffic to a certain vlan except for one or two IP addresses? Create an ACL or something? We have a vlan for voice calls (SIP) and we are getting a lot of scnas that are making the phones ring and such, and I think we can stop this if we only allow traffic onto the vlan from the IP's the SIP traffic is SUPPOSED to be coming from.

Also for a small business of 4 locations, each with a 10mbps fiber and a 1.5mbps mpls... wouldn't you say EIGRP would be easier? Want to look at making the failover automatic if the 10mbps fiber goes down between a site, then the network fails over to 1.5mbps mpls. When the fiber returns in service then the network automatically preferr the fiber again.
Currently we use static routes and if there is a provider outage we have to manually edit the config to flip flop the routes.
I heard that the WS-C3560E-24PD-S and the WS-C3750-48PS-S have a limitation on the number of 7945s supported (ie i can only run 10 or 15 on each switch before the power runs out). Any knowledge with these pieces of equipment verify the maximum supported? I'm having trouble finding documentation showing any maximums.

At this office I have a 2600 router, 3560 switch, with a Fortigate firewall in between DSL connection and LAN, Fa0/0 on router and firewall are both plugged in to switch. I have seen posts that mention PBR or static routes which is the reccomended method for dealing with this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have a single HP 2810 switch being used for an iSCSI SAN.We want to replace it with dual higher end switches.But we've got another SAN to also setup now - Dell Equallogic PS6010E - that has 10gb iSCSI SFP+ ports.Can the 4 x SFP+ uplink ports on the Dell PowerConnect PCT5548 or the HP 3800-48G-4SFP+ switch be used for just the 10gb iSCSI, while the other 48 handle the 1gb iSCSI?We were told the uplink ports don't have buffering, making them bad ports for iSCSI traffic and only useful as uplinks to another switch.We only need 8 x 10gb ports (4 for 2 servers, and 4 for the Equallogic SAN), so if the above would work, it would probably save us $10,000 from having to buy a separate 24 port dedicated 10gb switch to handle it.

Currently all the cisco phones are connected to this switch and configuration with only one vlan that is voice vlan .
1) what is the outcome of this configuration , i mean, what will be the expected output ? end of the day we need to prioritize the voice traffic but why other commands including threshold and buffers are mentioned with respectives queues , if I need to explain that what am i expecting out of this configuration ?
2) this is LAN QoS which i understood but again , do i need to configure policy-map along with class-map which is MQC on this switch ?
3) i have edge router where i have MQC already configured but confusion with this switch which is working as a Access switch .
4) I referred the cisco QoS document for the respetive model whereas we have policy-map configured on the same switch with class-map .
My understanding is if we have configured the LAN QoS , and mapped the CoS value with DSCP , we need not to have MQC.
I have one Cisco 3560, and it is connected to Firewall...I already turn on the ip routing, which is able to do interVLAN..In 3560, the static route is 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.2.2
3560 (port 1) =====> Firewall (port 1) ======> Internet (WAN)
192.168.2.1 192.168.2.2
Which mean... anything from 3560 will be rote to Firewall port 1 (192.168.2.2) and all the user behind 3560 will able to connect to Internet (WAN).

I currently am using the SGE2000 switches for our datacentre and they have run great. We are looking at replacing them as part of our normal equipment refresh and have questions about what is the best switch for us. We are looking at upgrading to at least 48 port switches which isn't a huge issue.The main purposes of the switches will be for iSCSI traffic between Starwind SANs and Vsphere 5.1 hosts. We had some latency issues with one of the SGE2000s but otherwise they've been great.
We also will use these switches to handle our feeds from our ISP and our normal interserver communications. We have had DDoS attacks in the past of 40k packets per second and 600mbps and the SGE2000 never even flinched. We don't need it for any layer3 routing (which we use virtualized PFsense for). Looking at the Miercom report the SG200 series looks like it would be fine for us but I'm just worried around the part which mentions it becoame unresponsive in a DoS attack and also whther it may be slower for iSCSI. Both series seem to support flow control and jumbo frames.
How do I limit broadcast/mulitcast traffic on a switchport to e.g. 5000 pps ? I don't want the port to shut down, just block or drop broadcast traffic that exceeds 5000 pps.
View 19 Replies View RelatedWe are in the process of rolling out iPads to our offices. As part of this implementation, we need to print from the iPads to our network printers. Our network printers are mostly HP and Xerox and do not have native Apple AirPrint capabilities. As such, we have been using the FingerPrint software to share out the network printers as Apple AirPrint printers. We have a mixture of switches at our offices. Most offices utilize a 3550 PoE switch. In these offices the AirPrint traffic is being transferred successfully and everything works great. In the offices which are using 3560 PoE switches, the traffic is never seen at the iPads. We are using EnGenius EAP300 access points connected into the Cisco switches to provide wireless access to the iPads. Both 3550 and 3560 switches are running iOS 12.2(25). What might be stopping/blocking the AirPrint traffic on the 3560 switches?

I find int g0/1 output traffic only can achieve about 5Mbps,but if I change "srr-queue bandwidth limit xx" command xx to 20-90,the int g0/1 can achieve normal traffic bps, for example,

the int g0/1 output can achieve 2Mbps that is correct,just only when limit set to 10%,the traffic only can achieve half of limit bandwidth.
i have a 3560 connecting to a sp with limited bandwidth. i have one interface on the switch whose traffic i do not want to drop. i want this traffic to go into the high priority queue. i am not sure how this should be configured, but here is my best guess and my current qos configuration on the switch:
