May 29, 2013Since Avaya phones do not run CDP, how does the phone know which DHCP pool to pull from to get its IP address if the PC is connected to the phone.
Let's say I have a interface config like this

And two DHCP scopes configured on the switch. What keeps the phone from pulling from the wrong scope?

Apr 17, 2013When I place the phone on a different subnet, registration failed. The connectivity between the two subnet should be working because I have a desktop computer hook up behind the Avaya phone and the computer can talk with the server without problemThe phone has gotten the IP from DHCP server can I can even ping the IP from phone server. but on the phone it shows "Discover 10.0.10.10" then reboot, again and again. 10.0.10.10 is the IP of phone server. And there is no firewall rules blocking the traffic between the two subnet.Like I said before, if I place the phone on the same subnet as the server it worked. Jun 7, 2012configure QoS on 3560 switch i have taken the template from cisco configuration guide since we have different QoS configuration on each model.
below is the configuration :

Currently all the cisco phones are connected to this switch and configuration with only one vlan that is voice vlan .
1) what is the outcome of this configuration , i mean, what will be the expected output ? end of the day we need to prioritize the voice traffic but why other commands including threshold and buffers are mentioned with respectives queues , if I need to explain that what am i expecting out of this configuration ?
2) this is LAN QoS which i understood but again , do i need to configure policy-map along with class-map which is MQC on this switch ?
3) i have edge router where i have MQC already configured but confusion with this switch which is working as a Access switch .
4) I referred the cisco QoS document for the respetive model whereas we have policy-map configured on the same switch with class-map .
My understanding is if we have configured the LAN QoS , and mapped the CoS value with DSCP , we need not to have MQC.

We plan to have all 3560s to have a link to each of the core. Without VSS, it is not possible to etherchannel to both core switches correct?What protocol should I configure to prevent in case one core fails? HSRP, VRRP, GLBP?
Do I need to run spanning tree protocol? if so which one?What is the best way to connect from each Catalyst 3560 for load balancing and redundancy? One to each core?

May 3, 2012I'm introducing a Cisco 3750 switch into a Avaya environment for testing/lab. I'm concerned about any STP, VTP problems I might create as I'm going to give a address on the Management VLAN and connect it to a trunk port on a ERS5520 Avaya. I've set the switch to transparent mode and the VTP revision is set to 0. I've checked the STP priority but it doesn't give any - there is no output because it is not connected. I wouldn't be so concerned but, I'm not sure if any config has been on it before.Also, is there any way for me to see the STP prioroity without having it connected?

The Cisco docs refer to doing spanned etherchannel with a Cat 6500 switch using VSS or a Nexus switch using VPC. Does spanned etherchannel work with non Cisco switches or is this proprietary? The etherchannel on the ASA is setup using LACP. Here's applicable configuration:

Dec 6, 2011I have one Cisco 3560, and it is connected to Firewall...I already turn on the ip routing, which is able to do interVLAN..In 3560, the static route is 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.2.2
3560 (port 1) =====> Firewall (port 1) ======> Internet (WAN)
192.168.2.1 192.168.2.2
Which mean... anything from 3560 will be rote to Firewall port 1 (192.168.2.2) and all the user behind 3560 will able to connect to Internet (WAN).
I want different setup now, I'm trying to configure another port (port 2) from Cisco 3560 connect to Firewall port 2...
3560 (port 2) =====> Firewall (port 2) ======> Internet (WAN)
10.1.1.1 10.1.1.2
I want subnet 10.1.1.x route to different gateway (10.1.1.2) to Firewall go out to WAN... and not using 192.168.2.2 gateway to WAN.
Cisco Security :: Mitel Phone 802.1x With Cat 3560 And ACS 5.2
Feb 21, 2011I am piloting an 802.1x implementation for a client who has Mitel IP Phones. I have setup the switch and ACS based on previous experience and a windows PC can authenticate onto the network OK. When I use a Mitel phone however, it seems to skip past the first 802.1x LCD message and goes straight to LLDP and DHCP discovery, which obviously fails. The phone are 5224s and the controller is on the original v10 release. I have cleared the 802.1x config on the phone and rebooting as per Mitel documentation which leads me to believe it should then prompt for a user/pass on next reboot. It does not do this.
I known the ACS is setup to support EAP-MD5 and I have tried all the various types of host modes including the default and Multi-Auth, Multi-Domain and none of them seem to make any difference. I have tried with and without a PC attached to the phone as well.
A wireshark shows the EAP identity request from the switch, and I see an EAP response from the phone, although it is slightly different to the PC's response. In the end the phone issues an EAP 4 failure message. So something in that EAP conversation doesnt seem to work.

I have a cat 3560 to play with and I thought I would try and use the no switchport command test out routing with switch. I've got some type of route issue and I tried a few things which I thought would fix the issue but had no effect. I'll post the config and a few commands so you can see what the basic setup is.
Here we can see in the arp that it knows about both 10.7.1.2 (PC unable to ping 10.3.3.254) as well as 10.3.3.254 (ASA).I tried adding in a ip route of 10.7.0.0 255.255.0.0 10.3.3.110 as well as 10.3.3.254. Neither produced the results I wanted allowing 10.7.1.2 (PC) to ping the ASA (10.3.3.254). [code]

May 8, 2012I have an environment of 3 X 3560G of which I have 1st switch-CORE(f0/10) connecting to the VPN router(CE) interface-f0/0. Remaining 2 Cisco 3560's(Access) are connected to Gi0/1 and Gi0/2 on the 1st switch-CORE via gi0/1 . On all three switches I have created multiple VLANs and assigned ports to these VLAN. The switch to switch connection is trunk allowing all VLANs created on all these 3 switches. Now the issue is how I am going to have all these VLANs routed through single interface on the routeri-e f0/0, as all these subnets will communicating to remote site over VPN. What should be default gateway on the 2 Access switches and the CORE switch, also what static route should be on router to reach all subnets(VLANs) created on these 3 switches.
I have read inter-VLAN routing i-e creating sub interfaces on router but dont want to proceed with that and looking for any other way to have my VLANs talk on all three switches and then are accessible to remote site ove VPN?

Apr 17, 2012I have tried to make policy based routing on Cisco 3560. I use ipservices ios (SW version 12.2.(50)SE3 and SW-IMAGE C3560-IPSERVICESK9-M) For below configuration there is no problem and pbr is working.

But when i add another sequence to the "pbr1" with another sequence number like that.

pbr is not working. Switch gives message "PLATFORM_PBR-3-UNSUPPORTTED_RMP:Route-map pbr1 not supported for Policy Based Routing”"ip policy route-map pbr1" command not shown in the running config. And "show ip policy" output is blank.Configuration guide says you have insert many sequence to the route-map with the same name. And also this command is not in the unsupported command list.

Apr 28, 2012We recently purchased Cisco 3560X Layer3 Switch. We need to perform simple Inter VLAN routing. We have configured VLAN1 (name-server_vlan) and VLAN2 (name- user_vlan). We have also assigned the Ports and IP address to both the VLANs. After assiging this if we plug Laptop A into VLAN1 then it doesnt communicates with Laptop B (btw, Laptop A is able to Ping VLAN2 Gateway ) in VLAN2 but on the other hand Laptop B is able to communicate with Laptop A and ping everything i.e. Gateway of VLAN1.

Feb 25, 2013We have two catalyst 3560 switches running c3560-ipbasek9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin They are connected using etherchannel using gi 0/21 - 24 interfaces.
on 3560-1 switch, there isn't any ip-default gateway or ip route configured. It only have 1 interface vlan configured.
on 3560-2 switch, there is ip default gateway configured along with 1 interface vlan.
What i dont understand here is that, i can reach out to other subnets from 3560-1 switch in which the routing is not enabled?

Oct 21, 2012 I have a 2504 WLC connected to a Catalyst 3560 which has multiple vlans and is connected to a 2800 series router. I know the catalyst is L3 but I am needing nat functions to get outside to the internet. From my 2800 series router I am able to ping out to the internet, also I am able to ping the vlan interfaces on the catalyst switch. Problem is from the catalyst switch I can ping the inside and outside address of the 2800 but I cannot get any further then that. I cannot ping the 2800 router gateway. Not sure what I am doing wrong as far as routing.

Apr 9, 2012I have CME on Router 2800 series, and switch 2960 PoE connected to this router.On 2960 switch, there is existing 7945 IP Phone that already work properly and get IP 14.x.x.x from voice vlan 2.
Problem is when I add cisco 6921 IP Phone connect to 2960 switch, it get data vlan 10.x.x.x, not voice Vlan 14.x.x.x I have check CDP and it use CDP v2
Config on 2960:

With same config and condition on port 2960, why the IP Phone 6921 can't get voice vlan 14.x.x.x, whereas IP Phone 7945 can get voice vlan 14.x.x.x

VLANS
Vlan 900 is a VoIP VLAN
Vlan 999 is a NULL VLAN and is shut down:

switchport access vlan 999 {VLAN to direct data traffic to the bit bucket becuase a PC shouldn't be connected to this port}
switchport mode access
switchport voice vlan 900
mls qos trust cos
spanning-tree portfast
The 6901 phone doesn't support multiple VLANs, so our configuration above does not work unless vlan 999 is turned on (not good security wise). We got the phones to work also by removing vlan 999 and switchport mode access.

solution that provides the discarding of data for the access VLAN, while supporting the VoIP vlan for this phone?

Feb 20, 2013I have an issue on the Cat 3750 on the voice vlan; IP Phone not registering with PBX & Signaling Server. The ip phone hits dhcp and gets an ip address from a data scope. Data scope does have dhcp options for voice, same as voice scope so it should work but it doesnt.We removed the switchport access vlan 50 command, and left the switchport access voice vlan 51, and now the phone registers.Anything I can check on the switch to make sure voice vlan is working? Any debug voice vlan commands?The switch doesnt seem to distinguish voice and data traffic.I check dhcp and both scopes vlan 50 and vlan 51 have the same configuration. Defautl GW is different of course Catalyst 3750 is running 12.2(25)SEE2 [code]
