Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / 2960 - How To Configure 2 Ports To Provide Redundancy

Jan 21, 2013

As per the attached diagram: How do I configure the 2 ports on the 3560 (Ports 6 & 7) and the connected ports on each of the 2960 switches (Port 25) to provide redundancy.

If the up link from Switch A dies then I need the traffic to flow through the trunk and utilize the up link on Switch B with minimal delay (milliseconds).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6509 / Provide Internet Redundancy To Local LAN User Running In HSRP?

May 7, 2013

One of our customer ,  where there 2 6509 switch , one is Core_sw1 and other is Core_sw2 , catering about 32 Vlan , and HSRP in running for all Vlans , till here no problem , now there internet Router which having one Internet link , which connected and configured on Core_sw1 in a way that one interface of Core_sw1 is given Public IP and there is vlan 85 which internet vlan and vlan 85 ip are natted with that public IP with one simple static route given toward internet router , this is how internet is working ok.

Now i have configured  vlan 85 in hsrp as all other are , how can give redundancy to vlan  85 user , that if Core_sw1 get down , internet traffic can get out through Core_sw2.using same internet router with single internet link .i am not talking of ISP redundancy , but Vlan 85 in Core_sw1 goes down , other Core_sw2 will server internet.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Redundancy Between One 2911 And Two 2960?

Aug 2, 2012

we are in the planning phase for a network upgrade. We have two C2960 Switches connected via one (L2) Etherchannel (4x1 Gbit/s) which works very well. In the next phase we would like to upgrade our router to an 2911 series which has 3 gb interfaces. and indeed we would like to create an etherchannel as well. our plan is to use 2 of the 2911 to connect to the first 2960 switch and the one left to the other 2960. i think we will achieve some redundancy with this config.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Auto-redundancy Using Etherchannel In 2960 Not Working?

Apr 15, 2012

I'm using Packet Tracer for testing since I don't have the actual equipment. I have configured etherchannel between two 2960 Switches. I have used the trunk ports FE  0/23 and FE 0/24 on both switches to create the etherchanel. I have connected one PC with each switch. The PCs are in the same VLAN and can ping each other. Howver, when I take down one of the links in the etherchannel, the other link does not take over and I get 100% packet loss. I don't know what seems to be the problem. I'm quoting the configurations below:

Switch0:
Switch#sh running-config
Building configuration...
 Current configuration : 1179 bytes

version 12.2

no service timestamps debug datetime msec

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4500 / 3560 - DHCP Redundancy - IP Helper Address Point To HSRP?

Jan 5, 2012

My actual Scenario

1 x 4500 and 1 x 3560?They are gateways of 8 Vlans?They are doing HSRP in each of those Vlans?The 4500 is the Active?There is a DHCP Pool for each of those Vlans on both gateways using "ip dhcp excluded-address" I ensured that the range of provided ips by each DHCP server will not be overlapped Obs.: Reducing the lease time, I ended with the calls bringing related problems.

OK, every thing is blue, every thing is fine.But the network diagram is realy complex(41 switchs, 89 uplinks), and depending of how is the network flow, one or other server answer first or latter.

For many reasons I would like that the secondary DHCP server would answer only if the primary DHCP server goes down.To me, the bigger reason is that DHCP database would be only in one DHCP server.But there is other reasons.

I passed by many frustrated solutions:Try to force a delay on the answer on one of the servers. - Impossible.Try to disable DHCP server, and, using EEM, enable it only if router became active in HSRP. - I couldn't do It.

What I'm thinking now is use the HSRP resource to resolve it.On both routers I would put a "ip helper-address" pointing to an Virtual_HSRP_IP.And depending on which router is the active, him will answer the request.

My first doubt is:Would it work?The second doubt is:Could I use the same Virtual_HSRP_IP that exists on that Vlan(see example 1),or I would need to point it to a Virtual_HSRP_IP in a different Vlan(see example 2)?

Example 1
        -----------------------------------
        |              4500               |
        -----------------------------------
        interface Vlan1
         ip address 10.10.0.2 255.255.0.0
         ip helper-address 10.10.0.1
         standby 1 ip 10.10.0.1

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Port / MAC Based DHCP For 2960 And 3560

Jan 3, 2012

I want to implement port-based and MAC-based in these two switches: 2960 & 3560 (both of them have this IOS version: 12.2(55)SE1). And I haven't found a way to implement both of them at the same time. This is what I got:

ip dhcp use subscriber-id client-id
ip dhcp subscriber-id interface-name
ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.0.0 192.168.0.2
ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.0.251 192.168.0.255

[code]....

With this configuration I can use port-based, but not MAC based. If I remove the first two lines and change the last line for this one:

address 192.168.0.7 client-id 0112.ae1d.af58.60

Then, the computer with that MAC address got the correct IP, but then the port-based doesn't work. Also, I got this line in the interface what I want to use MAC-based:

ip dhcp server use subscriber-id client-id

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst 3560 / 2960 Web-user Management

Jun 7, 2011

We have quite a few 3560 & 2960 on our edge network - what I have been looking at was to access switches via web-interface i.e. web-browser. Only problem with this is it always gives you access on privilige level 15 which is not ideal as not all who we decide to give access to these switches will be admin and allowed to configure these swicthes - In the 3560/2960 data-sheet states:

"Alternatively, a local username and password database can be configured on the switch itself. Fifteen levels of authorization on the switch console and two levels on the Web-based management interface provide the ability to give different levels of configuration capabilities to different administrators"

Where as there is no mention of how to configure these two levels of Web-based management in the configuration guide.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / 2960 - Potential Spanning Tree Method

Oct 16, 2011

I have a Cisco 3560 running as a Level3 device in my network running 10 V LANs and routing between most of them (nothing complex with ACLs) and running spanning-tree mode pvst. The main network is run on a net gear GS748TPS stack of three switches running MSTP.

I have just bought an additional 3560 and a 2960 to plug in. I have set them up with IP addresses and then plugged them into the net gear. This brought the whole network down until I unplugged the new switches.

I have confirmed the IP addresses aren't duplicated and that DHCP is not running on the switches so I can only assume it's something to do with DHCP. I cannot afford for the network to go offline again, so is there anything I should check? Am I running incompatible spanning tree methods between the net gear and Cisco devices?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 Ports Have Stopped Powering Phones

Apr 9, 2012

We are experiencing two of our layer 3 switches (3560 PoE and 3750 PoE) switches giving us problems with giving power to IP phones. These switches have an embedded PoE module and would previously give power to all IP phones on all its ports. Now all of a sudden over the past few months 6 of these ports have stopped powering phones. The phones are the same ie. 7911 and they take less than 15.4 W. We believe that the PoE module has started malfunctioning and has stopped giving power to all the ports. The port 'grants' power and then removes it. Below is a link showing all the messaged we receive on the terminal session. It is NOT a hardware fault with the PoE: [code]

All of the HP servers will be configured with static addresses. My question is, how do I set all the ports to VLAN 40 so that untagged devices will automatically go onto VLAN 40? I don't want to have to configure the VLAN on each iLO port on the server. I tried to set the port to: "switchport trunk native vlan 40", but that didn't work.

2. Also, how do you access the web GUI for these switches? I get a login box, but putting in the enable password doesn't work. I have the following commands in the config: [code]
