Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-2960-48PST - To Use 4 Ports At A Time
Feb 25, 2013
I have an doubt about some port in 2960.He have 2 SFP and 2 Fixed Ethernet. Can I use these 4 ports in the same time? Use 2 Ethernet and the 2 SFP with Fiber?
Is there a way to identify if a switch port is burned via CLI? I have a 2960-48PST switch and some ports don't provide power to a PoE device connected. When I change the port, the device turns on.
I want to know what is the different between IOS of the catalyst WS-C2960-48PST-S and the IOS of catalyset WS-C2960-48PST-L.a want to upgrad the IOS of a WS-C2960-48PST-S with the IOS of WS-C2960-48PST-L (because this reference has a LANBASE version of IOS).
I have a new site needing PoE for their VoIP system as well as the usual LAN config.I haven't used Cisco PoE switches for a good couple of years now and was wondering what you think of the 2960-48PST-S?
I will probably need PoE up to around 50 Meters and will be using PoE on most of the 48 ports over CAT5e 100Mbps with 1Gbps upload is fine so these switches do seem to tick all the boxes but I’m not sure if there are better options?
I have a statck of 4 2960s switches, with POE powered access points on 2 of them. All of the access points appear to be functioning normally. For some reason, on 3 interfaces connected to access points, I get the following when issuing show interfaces status:
Gi3/0/9 connected: T 7 a-full a-1000 10/100/1000BaseTX ^
My question is regarding the "T" in the status field. I can't find any documentation on this.
New to Cisco and want to know if I can segment a port. I have two v lans. I have one internet connection at the opposite end of the building. Can the port the internet is connected to serve both V lans?
My environment have two device ,a cisco css11501 and a cisco 2960 ,when I reboot CSS11501 then 2960 shutdown fa0/41
I command "sh logging | in 0/41" just up down two time, not five times in 10 seconds

I need to enable/disable a mac access-list on a 2960 scheduled by time. The switch has lanbasek9-mz.122-44.SE6. As the mac access-list can not support time ranges, I tried EEM but seems like it is not supported in this device.
I have two questions for a Cisco 2960 (WS-C2960-24TC-L)
1. I am working to setup a few Cisco 2960 switches for HP iLO access to our servers. We are going to segregate the iLO network (VLAN 40) from the data network (VLAN 10) by using a different VLAN. All of the HP servers will be configured with static addresses. My question is, how do I set all the ports to VLAN 40 so that untagged devices will automatically go onto VLAN 40? I don't want to have to configure the VLAN on each iLO port on the server. I tried to set the port to: "switchport trunk native vlan 40", but that didn't work.
2. Also, how do you access the web GUI for these switches? I get a login box, but putting in the enable password doesn't work. I have the following commands in the config: [code]
We have a 2960 switch which is connected to the core via a VLAN trunk. We have disabled broadcast port suppression but, the 2960 is shutting is shutting 2 ports down on the network and this looks like excessive braodcast. How and why would the switch start dropping traffic when the default is don't do anything? It had to be rebooted to get the port active again
Disable ports looping Users connect the network cable at two points in the network generating looping. which command to disable two ports of a Cisco 2960 when they are connected at the same time with the same network cable?
I have a 2960 switch and every then and now the ports are flapping, while i was on console i saw ports going down and coming up...when the ping to machine ip addresses timed out the port status on switch was still up...no errors collisions seen on sw port. Below is sh int when the port was flapping
I've previously used trunkports and vlans between my ASA and accesspoints, connected directly. Now I want to put a 2960S-24PS-L bewteen. Where should i define the vlans (in the switch or in th ASA?) and what ports to put in trunk mode? (the ones on the switch or the one between the switch and the ASA?)
Is there a way to configure a switch (3550, 3560,3750) to disable a switch port if it has not been used for a specified time period such as weeks or months. Say you want the switch to disable switch ports that have been "abandoned".
We have around a dozen Catalyst 3560 and 2960 switches in a ring topology. We are considering adding storm control to our trunk ports. Up until now we have only used it on edge ports with default values and without error-disable.I am proposing that we also add storm control to trunk ports at a lower level and that we error-disable only the redundant links that make up our loops.
In a storm all links will restrict broadcast which should work accessing remote switches, but the redundant links should errdisable and block the redundant path. It is important that the action line is not applied to links that are not redundant as we could isolate parts of the network. Any reason not to use storm control on trunks?
I have been experiencing discards and no buffers errors on my 2950 switches. These switches are connected to two core switches 4948 and 3560G. I have noticed previous posts regrading these problems but have been unable to find any cases that were resolved. We are using 12.1(22)EA11 software on our 2950 switches.
I know in the past on earlier models of the supervisors that you couldn't use all eight uplink ports(4 on each supervisor) simultaneously when you have two supervisors on the chassis. Is this the same case for the 10Gb uplinks on the supervisor 7-E on the 4500 chassis? I tried doing my research but couldn't find an answer.
As per the attached diagram: How do I configure the 2 ports on the 3560 (Ports 6 & 7) and the connected ports on each of the 2960 switches (Port 25) to provide redundancy.
If the up link from Switch A dies then I need the traffic to flow through the trunk and utilize the up link on Switch B with minimal delay (milliseconds).
I have a Cisco Catalyst 2960 series switch. When I connect another switch or a VMWare Esx server on one of the ports, the port blinks for few seconds and then goes off. When I connect a desktop or laptop or a windows server the ports stay led and I can access resources on the network. However, when connect another switch or a vmware esx server, the port is disabled.
What config in the switch can I check to make sure the ports stay on regardless when I connect a desktop / laptop, switch or vmware server?
I have a c2969-48PST-L switch running IOS Version 12.2(55) SE. The switch is configured for 802.1x authentication. The radius server is a Cisco ACS 5.2. We are using PEAP and allowing EAP-TLS and EAP-MS-CHAPv2. Windows 7 PCs (HP Elitebooks) are using the "windows" supplicant and configured to 802.1x authentication is enabled using Microsoft Protected EAP (PEAP), we are not validating any certificates and the authentication method is Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2). What is occurring every so often is that the PC will fail authentication (intermittently) and the ACS shows the reason as being 5411 EAP session timeout. This is a pretty generic message according to TAC. The interesting part to me is the Authentication Method showing on the ACS when the authentication fails is simply PEAP. However, when it does not fail the Authenication Method is shown as PEAP (EAP-MSCHAPv2). We have the Cisco TAC looking at the ACS and they are saying the issue is the client not reponding to the request correctly from the switch.if the version of IOS softare on the switch maynot be handling the communication to the ACS correctly. I have wireshark traces of a successful authenication and unsuccessful one. There does seem to be any difference from the client side at all.
I have 4 cisco 2960 switches to which many users are connected. No vlans are the only default vlan 1 is there. Now I want to make ether channel on switch 1 whcih has 24 fast etherenet ports. Can I make port 1- 8 as one ether channel which are connected to users or i can only make ethere channel of ports that are connectd to other switchs. If I can, how the other switchs will comnicate with the switch ports bundalled in the ether channel in switch 1.
I have an existing stack of 4 x 2960-S switches connected by stack cables.I would like to add another 2960-S switch to the stack but am unable to as the 2960-S will only allow 4 x 2960-S switches per stack.how I would add the 5th 2960-S switch to the existing stack of 4 x 2960-S switches.
I have a 24 port 2960-S that is not communicating with a 2960-LST that it is directly connected to over fiber. The link is up on the LST but will not come up on the -S. What command should I use to bring up this link? I have tried no shut from the (Config-if)# prompt.
I am using Cisco 2960 access switches and dont have NTP server so i can manually set time on switches but problem raised when these switches restart they show their factory default time.
One of my client useing 2960 switch but now face a problen after periodic time power off automaticaly. sometime cooling fan only run. Power of after 10 min or 3/4 hours and after power off it can get any power again. after 10/15 hours when power on then its works again but some times. whats is the problem hardware or software.
My management has tasked me to give them a high level overview of the different switching we can choose for our new building.
This is what I know so far.4 Closets, each closet has 450 ports,One MDF room that is will contain one UCS Chassis and a Nimble iSCSI SAN.
I am working on the spreadsheet and it looks like this (Not totally filled):

For the IDF's I was thinking of two 4010's.
I have a problem with the time synchronization via NTP between a Catalyst 2960 and Catalyst 6509. When I configure the 6509 switch as a NTP reference on the 2960, it does not synchronize with the 6509's NTP server. There is no reachability or ACL-related issue between both switches.
As soon as I configure a second Catalyst 6509 (which is completely identical to the other 6509 and in the same subnet) as a NTP server for the 2960, the time sync with the second 6509 happens immediality.
The first 6509 switch works as a NTP reference for at least 50 other switches and routers in the network - so why not for this one more switch? I checked some "debug ntp packet" and "debug ntp events" outputs and can clearly watch the NTP requests going out of the 2960, but on the 6509 just nothing happens - no debug outputs for this specific 2960, while requests from other devices come in all the time.
Maybe you have already experienced this strange behaviour in the past or got some deeper knowledge in the Cisco NTP server implementation. I could think of some sort of "maximum client limit" in the IOS NTP server, but could not find any mechanism like this in the standard NTP specification. Eventually, you can approve that this is a IOS-specific issue.
I am using a 3750 as a default gateway for multiple Vlans on a few 2960 switches. The trunk lines are configured and working and I have assigned ip addresses to each of the Vlan interfaces on the 3750. My issue is that I can only ping the ip address on the Vlan interface of the 3750 if I have a working computer plugged directly into the Vlan on the 3750. I only have 3 vlans on the 3750 that have hosts directly connected (vlans 2, 10 and 40) the other vlans ( 20 and 70) don't have any clients plugged into them on the 3750 but the hosts reside on 2 different 2960s that connect via trunk ports. How do I keep the vlan interface on the 3750 switch pingable when I don't have hosts directly connected in that vlan on the 3750? (yes, I have enabled ip routing on the 3750)
