Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4500 - Redundant Supervisor 7-E - Use All Uplink Ports At Same Time
Dec 15, 2011
I know in the past on earlier models of the supervisors that you couldn't use all eight uplink ports(4 on each supervisor) simultaneously when you have two supervisors on the chassis. Is this the same case for the 10Gb uplinks on the supervisor 7-E on the 4500 chassis? I tried doing my research but couldn't find an answer.
So the 2T comes with 2 10GE and 3 GE uplink ports. Can you use all 5, one or the other, a mix, or what? How does that work? It's not really clear from reviewing the products webpage or data sheet.
I would like to add a redundant supervisor to my core 6509. Is this tricky to do? I know they have to be running the same IOS. I am worried if I put the new supervisor in it will write over the exsisting running config.
we have 2 Supervisor IV modules in our 4507, i want to upgrade the IOS as its still on 12.2 and i am going to upgrade it to the latest.
my first question is, if i update the IOS on the bootflash will it replicate to the secondarybootflash?
secondly, can i force a reboot of the secondary supervisor, then the primary after the secondary is up? i'm just trying to minimise downtime and get a plan going.
is there a difference in 12 vs 15 that would impact my current config that i should be aware of?
I have a Cisco 6500 series switch with VS-C6509E-S720-10G ,I have two redundant supervisors between two chassis on the LAN with no add-on line cards ?
I need to know if I can use the redundant supervisor 10 Gb uplinks to form a layer-2 Port channel between the two 6500 switches as i do not want to use want to keep the port idle additionally I need more bandwidth between the two switches for my server farm?
There is a Cisco Catalyst 6513 in my office. Recently we decided to setup redundant Supervisor Engine 720-3B. When we did it, its became STANDBY COLD, and then it reloads. IOS is equal on both supervisors. It must be STANDBY HOT (SSO) redundancy. There is a configuration and show ver and show module outputs, and log of my actions.
The SuperVisor engine in slot 1 of a Catalyst 6513 needed to be replaced because a hardware defect. The SuperVisor engine in slot 2 is active and running CatOS 8.5. The new SuperVisor engine for slot 1 came with CatOS 6.3 and was not syncronized auromatically after insertion. When the customer enter the command "Show boot" he get the output:
AG-A6513-51> (enable) sh boot BOOT variable = bootflash:cat6000-sup2k8.8-5-5.bin,1;bootflash:cat6000-sup2k8.7-6-2.bin,1;
I have a doubt about upgrading Memory in Redundant Supervisor Modules Nexus 7K18, i read the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Hardware Installation and Reference Guide, and the process for upgrading the memory in redundant supervisors do not says that i can have a lose of service, but it also says that both supervisor modules must have the same amount of memory for redundancy to work;If the switch has two supervisor modules, both must have the same amount of memory. If you upgrade the standby supervisor module to 8 GB of memory, you must then switch the active supervisor to standby and upgrade the new standby supervisor to 8 GB of memory.
We bought Cisco sup engine WS-SUP32-GE-3B for 6500 switches 2 nos for redundancy. I have connected 6 systems on each sup engine ports. How to clarify whether both sup engine will forward the data while one is Master and other is standby?
I have a 4510R-E chassis which currently has a single supervisor 5 installed.
We are now looking at upgrading the supervisor to a Sup6. Now the question is this, can I install the Sup6 into the redundant cpu slot and then perform a failover to get the new switch working without any noticable downtime.
I'm not sure what having a Sup V and a Sup 6 in at the same time will do to the backplane.
Otherwise I have to take the switch down and then install the card and software manually.
I'm having a trouble with a 4510R+E switch. The WS-X45-SUP7-E supervisors are constantly rebooting, and we can see a 'critical software exception reload' reason. We have checked the logs
______ uptime is 5 weeks, 1 day, 19 hours, 3 minutes Uptime for this control processor is 37 minutes System returned to ROM by reload
[Code]....
What can we do to solve this incident?. Everything was working fine, and suddently the problem arose.
I am trying to understand the implicit limit to the priority queue. I know you can define an explicit policer but if you don't I can't find out what the rate limit really is.
I have issue with my 4510 switch which has got two supervisor engine in single switch.
I am trying find the root cause but not able to ....
Standy supervisor engine is not detecting ....
In show module and bootvar output also , there is error saying " Standby is not up "
show module ouput :
Switch-4510#show moduleChassis Type : WS-C4510RPower consumed by backplane : 40 WattsMod Ports Card Type Model Serial No.---+-----+--------------------------------------+------------------+-----------1 6 Sup V-10GE 10GE (X2),
On an existing 4500 switch with a single sup 6-E, another sup 6-E is added. But the second sup6-E comes up as synchronised with active and in a few minutes time, reloads again. the software is 12.2(44) is the same on both sup engines. the redundancy sso output shows that slot6 is disabled.
Our company will go to buy a core switch 4503. What is the difference between the Catalyst 4500 E-Series Supervisor 7L-E and the Catalyst 4500 E-Series Supervisor 7-E?
Does a new Cisco Catalyst 4500 series supervisor 7L-E model WS-X45-SUP7L-E is backward compatible with a Cisco Catalyst 4500 series chassis model 4507R? I've checked on Cisco website for that Supervisor and it shows only new chassis models WS-C4507R+E and R-E, but what about old type of chassis? We need to upgrade that Supervisor as it's out of line, but we don't really want to buy a new chassis as well as it's going to be very pricy.
the nexus 7k or 5k can be devided into 4 virtual devices ( using vdc)and making 8 uplink ports in the 2k will allow us to use the extender for all the 4 vdc's with 2 uplinks ( for redundancy ) from each vdc
I went through the configuration guide for 4500 series switches for NSF/SSO for failover between Sup's. I just wanted to know that that are we supposed to run the SSO command on both of the supervisors? Secondly, are we only supposed to run the nsf process under EIGRP on the secondary supervisor and routing peers and not on the primary supervisor?
switch catalyst 4500 with ios cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.02.00.XO.150-2.XO.bin. I need to configure modules 3 and 4 of supervision, the problem is that I need the 4-port module 3 are active but only the first turn on both the module 3 and the first port on the module 4. [code]
we have several uplink ports on a verity of cisco switches connecting to the nexus 7000, recording CRC errors.most are trunked ports with the following configuration. [code]
we have just purchased a few 3750x's that we intend to add to our 3750g stacks. We've purchased the 10gb uplink modules, C3kx-nm-10gt, but when they are installed they are not appearing in the switches web gui nor can you configure them correctly. If we upgrade a 3750x to 15.0.1 they seem to work fine. All of our current 3750g's are running 12.2(58)SE2 IPBASE so we don't really want to have to upgrade them all to 15.0.1
Are we missing something or do the 10gb modules only work properly with ios 15.0.1?
How do I enable ports 3 and 4 on this supervisor module? I can only get ports 1 and 2 to work by default. I have a standby Supervisor in SSO mode. I'm running IOS 15.0.2SG
We are expanding out LAN network with more 2960 access switches. All the access switches are suppose to be connected to core switch (4507R) but i have less port on the core switch.
On the core switch we have two supervisor engines (WS-X4515 ---description : "Supervisor IV with 2 1000BaseX GBIC ports"). I can see that on each supervisor engine i have two 1 GB SFP ports available and if i calculate for two supervioser engine i will have 4 1GB ports.
But at particular time only one supervisor engine is active and other is in standby mode (redundancy mode used is SSO between two SUP engines).
Can i used all 4 SFP ports for connecting 4 uplinks to the 4 access switch? Will all the 4 SFP ports active at one time or only 2 SFP ports will be active that is for only active supervisor engine.
How i can configure the SFP Ports on my 4500 SERIES CHASSIS with other SFP ports on the connecting switch. I want to connect 15 switches via GLC=SX=MM to my 4506E sfp card.
I have installed a WS-X4448-GB-RJ45 on a 4503 chasis. I could not get input or output rate, just shows 0 bit/seg wether or not is forwarding traffic. I would like to know if I have to make any configuration or workaround. The IOS version is 12.2(37)SG1.
We have been receiving these notifications on one of our core.

PO5 goes to our primary wireless controller. Gi2/9 goes to a Cisco 4500 switch that also has a PO5 on it for a failover lan controller and TE7/2 is another core switch.
These mac-address all seem to point to PO 5 which is the port channel assigned to Wireless Controller interfaces.
How do I determine if this is a spanning-tree loop? No ports are err-disabled.
We've got a doubt about the uplink ports of this supervisor. I've read that you have to use the four ports in 10G mode or in 1G mode, but not use for example 1 port in 10G mode and 1 port in 1G mode:
But, you can read in another sentence: " Beginning with Cisco IOS Release 12.2(25)SG, you could simultaneously deploy the dual 10-Gigabit.Ethernet ports and the four Gigabit Ethernet SFP ports on the Catalyst 4503, Catalyst 4506, and Catalyst 4507R chassis." Is it posible deploy simultaneously both type of ports?
I have a Cisco 4500. Recently some of the ports seem to have "died"/ will not supply Poe to phones. Some work for data only. Other do not work at all. The switch has been restarted, this made no difference.
I was checking some things on my Cisco 4500 and spot checking some of the ports. Using CNA it says it is at 10. The web browser to the switch says Full-duplex, 1000Mb/s, link type is auto, media type is 10/100/1000-TX on port 6i/18 The CNA says, so what would cause the difference?
We need rededunt uplink in Cisco 2960 from Cisco 3550 , one uplink is primary and one is for backup. As per current scenerio one uplink in Cisco 2960 interface fe0/1 from Cisco 3550 int fe0/1 through OFC cable configuration 2960 int fe0/1 interface fe0/1desciption *** Connect to Cisco 3550 port 1 ***switchport mode accessswitchport access vlan 2spanning-tree guard loop Configuration Cisco 3550 int fe0/1desciption *** Connect to Cisco 2960 port 1 ***switchport mode accessswitchport access vlan 2spanning-tree guard loop We have facing the problem when OFC cable down , so now we are considering anather OFC via anather route to connect same Cisco 2960 Switch in Fe0/2 from Cisco 3550 int fe0/2 so when primary uplink goes down then backup uplink which is connect to Cisco 2960 fe0/2 from Cisco 3550 fe0/2 it's up.what is the command we need configure as per my require in both the Cisco 2960 and 3550 swith in interface and global mode also.
I have an doubt about some port in 2960.He have 2 SFP and 2 Fixed Ethernet. Can I use these 4 ports in the same time? Use 2 Ethernet and the 2 SFP with Fiber?
