Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4500 Sup7E Show Controllers Ethernet Output
Mar 12, 2012I recently configured a network with a 4500 Sup7E and a 3560G with jumbo frame support. I am trying to confirm operation. On the 4500 this is straight forward using "sho int g0/nn count detail". [code] The 3560 doesn't support that command. The closest I can come to finding the number of jumbo packets is "show controllers ethernet" (example below). On the transmit side I assume that jumbo frames would be tallied in the "Too large frames" counter. The receive side is a little more ambiguous. There are 2 counters that seem to be duplicates, "Valid frames, too large" and "Valid oversize frames". In operation they are not. I am seeing the "Valid frames, too large" counter incrementing while the "Valid oversize frames" remains at zero. [code]

I just wanted to know that that are we supposed to run the SSO command on both of the supervisors? Secondly, are we only supposed to run the nsf process under EIGRP on the secondary supervisor and routing peers and not on the primary supervisor?

Dec 15, 2011I know in the past on earlier models of the supervisors that you couldn't use all eight uplink ports(4 on each supervisor) simultaneously when you have two supervisors on the chassis. Is this the same case for the 10Gb uplinks on the supervisor 7-E on the 4500 chassis? I tried doing my research but couldn't find an answer.

Jan 7, 2013We have recently purchased a Cisco 4506 that has several Gigabit Ethernet modules installed.One of the Ethernet Gigabit modules - a WS-X4424-GB-RJ45 - is being picky with who it talks to at Gigabit Ethernet.
If I plug a laptop into one of it's RJ45 ports using a Cat 6 cable, nothing happens. No link light, no notification of link up or down on port statistics, absolutely nothing.If I plug a server into the same port it works fine at Gigabit Ethernet (even using the same Cat 6 cable).I can get the module to recognize a laptop if I fix the speed/duplex on the laptop to 100Mb/Full. I have tried this with other staff laptops from different vendors (HP / Dell / etc.) all with the same result.
The module directly underneath this module - a WS-X4448-GB-RJ45 - works fine for both laptops and servers. We have tried swapping the module positions but to no avail.

However, there is a command that I found and it is NOT DOCUMENTED on 4500 reference guide! The command is "diagnostic monitor poe". This command actually detects/recover POE hardware failures! After executing this command, poe start to work again?

Feb 19, 2013We have a single 4500 connecting to two non-cisco devices. We need to enable port channelling or link aggregation between these two.The links are carrying mulitple vlans , hence are trunked and the ip address on either side is used for routing.
From each of the two non-cisco device, i am taking 2 ports each to connect to the 4500.On each non-cisco device side, two ports will bundle together as one aggregated interface (ae1) and the other will be called ae2.
my query is how do i do the configuration for etherchannel on the cisco 4500 side , as it will need two different Po's( port channels).I need a single ip address on both sides of port channel to be present for routing.
Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4500 Sup6E Priority Queue On Port-channel Member?
Mar 18, 2010I am trying to implement priority queuing (LLQ) on a pair of 10GE links between a 4507 with Sup6E and a 4948 which are configured as an etherchannel. I am unable to configure a priority queue on the 4507. I am running into the following issues:
I want to have a priority queue for voice traffic and specify minimum bandwidth for a critical application. If I configure a class with the priority command it will not let me use the bandwidth command on another class unless the priority class is policed. If I try it without the police command I get the message "bandwidth kbps/percent command cannot co-exist with strict priority in the same policy-map ". If I add a police statement to the priority class then I don't get this error.
When I try to apply the resulting service-policy to the physical interface it says "% A service-policy with non-queuing actions should be attached to the port-channel associated with this physical port" and does not add the command to the config.
If I try to associate the same policy-map to the port-channel rather than the physical interface it says "% A service-policy with queuing actions can be attached in output direction only on physical ports" and does not add the command to the config.
All of the other interfaces on the 4500 are working OK. The trunks have auto qos voip trust configured and access ports are marking the critical application traffic.
The 4507 is running 12.2(44)SG1 EnterpriseK9. I don't have the luxury to upgrade blindly to fix the problem unless I can identify a specific bug that is causing the problem.

Jun 3, 2013I have configured a SVI in my 4500 ( Sup 7-E 10GE,,,,,,and,,,,,cat4500e-universalk9.SPA.03.02.00.SG.150-2.SG.bin) switch and it is showing Down Down, because there were no active switch port in the vlan, I added one switch port to this vlan but this port also in the down state, so i added the SWITCH PORT AUTO STATE EXCLUDE command under this port, even after this also the SVI never came up, So i added one systen to the port so both the switch port and the SVI came up...So why SWITCH PORT AUTO STATE EXCLUDE command have no effect in this model of the switch..

Jul 10, 2012I have a pair of 3560's configured with dot1q trunks between them carrying a number of VLANs.
Once deployed there will be a requirement for these physical trunks to be disconnected from time to time. Knowing that this is inevitable I am trying to minimise the period of time for the trunks to recover once the physical connectivity is reinstated.
All of the VLANs on the switches are configured for Spanning Tree Rapid PVST. Current time for the trunks/VLANs to come up is around the 4 second mark.

Mar 13, 2013I have configured a vlan interface on a 3750 switch. there is aprox 4Mb active traffic flowing through the interface, but when I do a "show interface vlan (vlanid)" the output show zero bits in and zero bits out. Its a typical L3 config with one IP on the vllan interface acting as the gateway for the VLAN devices. Is this a normal behaviur ? and if so is there any way to get the traffic in/out stats. The end PC/devices are connected to this switch via an L2 TRUNK and I dont have access to the L2 switch on which the actual devices connect. so cant get the real time stats of those interfaces.

Oct 26, 2011I would like to add a vlan to a second context on a pair of redundant ACE modules. As soon as I open up that shared vlan box we will expose ourselves to mac conflicts until the shared-vlan-hostid commands can be implemented and the module reloaded. Adding the commands is not a big deal but I may not be able to schedule a reload until next week. What I would like to do is confirm the mac pools in use by each module right now. My hope is that they grabbed unique pools when they last booted and a conflict will not be a concern now.

Mar 20, 2012I am looking at deploying a pair of 5585X's in an active/active multiple context state. I am creating Mulitple contexts that need to be able to route to each other. I was going to deploy a type of Gateway context that has a shared interface to all of the other contexts, instead of sharing interfaces directly between the contexts, i beleive this will work as basically i am just cascadng the contexts and sharing interfaces.
The main problem i have come across, is that if i deploy active/active across two appliances using 2 failover groups i can not see a way to route between them, for example.
I have Context 1, Context 2 and Context GW A including the shared interfaces of Con1 and Con2 in failover group 1 on appliance A with the respective standbys on Appliance 2. I have Context 2, Context 4 and Context GW B including the shared interfaces of Con 3 and Con 4 in failover group 2 on appliance B with the respective standbys on Appliance 1.
I need to be able to route traffic between Context GW A and GW B so that the contexts can communicate in normal operation and in failover. I do not beleive that I can share an interface between contexts in two separate failover groups and to be honest without adding a L3 device between the appliances i am not sure if this is possible.

Does it mean that it supports VSS in the same manner as the 6500 ? The reason I'm asking this question is that I didn't find any info on the Internet about this. We would like to upgrade our network by interconnecting the 2 sites with Layer 2 redundant links (Layer 2 extension), but I'd like to use the both links in a load-balancing manner, which can be a real pain in the *** with STP. The choice is between 4500 and 3750 stackable core switches. The 6500s are very expensive.

All the ports on module 5 have "power inline never" applied, in fact the whole switch has POE disabled.
