I have a doubt about upgrading Memory in Redundant Supervisor Modules Nexus 7K18, i read the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Hardware Installation and Reference Guide, and the process for upgrading the memory in redundant supervisors do not says that i can have a lose of service, but it also says that both supervisor modules must have the same amount of memory for redundancy to work;If the switch has two supervisor modules, both must have the same amount of memory. If you upgrade the standby supervisor module to 8 GB of memory, you must then switch the active supervisor to standby and upgrade the new standby supervisor to 8 GB of memory.

I have a question. I have a 6500 with two supervosrs and they both have CATOS. One of them failed and I need to replace. As long as the hardware is the same does the CATOS have to be indentical or can this be different.

I would like to add a redundant supervisor to my core 6509. Is this tricky to do? I know they have to be running the same IOS. I am worried if I put the new supervisor in it will write over the exsisting running config.

we have 2 Supervisor IV modules in our 4507, i want to upgrade the IOS as its still on 12.2 and i am going to upgrade it to the latest.
my first question is, if i update the IOS on the bootflash will it replicate to the secondarybootflash?
secondly, can i force a reboot of the secondary supervisor, then the primary after the secondary is up? i'm just trying to minimise downtime and get a plan going.
is there a difference in 12 vs 15 that would impact my current config that i should be aware of?

Can i use supervisor engin 6-E for redundant or i must use Supervisor Engin V ?

I have a Cisco 6500 series switch with VS-C6509E-S720-10G ,I have two redundant supervisors between two chassis on the LAN with no add-on line cards ?
I need to know if I can use the redundant supervisor 10 Gb uplinks to form a layer-2 Port channel between the two 6500 switches as i do not want to use want to keep the port idle additionally I need more bandwidth between the two switches for my server farm?

There is a Cisco Catalyst 6513 in my office. Recently we decided to setup redundant Supervisor Engine 720-3B. When we did it, its became STANDBY COLD, and then it reloads. IOS is equal on both supervisors. It must be STANDBY HOT (SSO) redundancy. There is a configuration and show ver and show module outputs, and log of my actions.

The SuperVisor engine in slot 1 of a Catalyst 6513 needed to be replaced because a hardware defect. The SuperVisor engine in slot 2 is active and running CatOS 8.5. The new SuperVisor engine for slot 1 came with CatOS 6.3 and was not syncronized auromatically after insertion. When the customer enter the command "Show boot" he get the output:

I know in the past on earlier models of the supervisors that you couldn't use all eight uplink ports(4 on each supervisor) simultaneously when you have two supervisors on the chassis. Is this the same case for the 10Gb uplinks on the supervisor 7-E on the 4500 chassis? I tried doing my research but couldn't find an answer.

I have a 4510R-E chassis which currently has a single supervisor 5 installed.
We are now looking at upgrading the supervisor to a Sup6. Now the question is this, can I install the Sup6 into the redundant cpu slot and then perform a failover to get the new switch working without any noticable downtime.
I'm not sure what having a Sup V and a Sup 6 in at the same time will do to the backplane.
Otherwise I have to take the switch down and then install the card and software manually.

I sort of messed up and upgraded the IOS on one supervisor on a 6500 without doing the second, saved and reloaded. How to I get the 2nd one working again? When I issued a show module the "normal" Active sup shows active and the standby shows as Supervisor.

I have an older 4006 with a Supervisor II+. We now need OSPF support, which the Sup II+ does not provide. I have access to a Supervisor III (WS-X4014), which will provide OSPF support. Question is, are there any gotchas to shutting down the switch, replacing Supervisor Engines and then powering up? What about the flash card? On my current system, it appears that I am only using bootflash: , which is where the IOS resides (see below). Since my startup config is in nvram and my IOS is in bootflash, what's the purpose of the flash card in slot0: ? and where does NVRAM and bootflash actually live on a 4006 ( on the Supervisor Engine?)

Problem I have encountered when upgrading a Cisco 6509 chassis with a new supervisor card from Sup2 to Sup 720b. The 6509 loads and then crashes completely, and when rebooted reloads into rommon.The same upgrade was performed on a similar switch with no apparent problems.

Does a new Cisco Catalyst 4500 series supervisor 7L-E model WS-X45-SUP7L-E is backward compatible with a Cisco Catalyst 4500 series chassis model 4507R? I've checked on Cisco website for that Supervisor and it shows only new chassis models WS-C4507R+E and R-E, but what about old type of chassis? We need to upgrade that Supervisor as it's out of line, but we don't really want to buy a new chassis as well as it's going to be very pricy.

we have a old Nexus 5010 running version 5.0(3)N1(1)it is in a franckenblock(like frankenstein) ie . we bought the parts and create our own system design before VCE was created. He have since bought VCE V block for our production sites. we use the franc ken block to test before we migrate to the production v block 300 FIX the issue we have is the 5010 will only see two 1 Gb/s SFP fiber modules in the first 12 slots. All these slots are dual 1g/10G. If we add more than two, it claims not to see them. We tried swapping the sfp and using both sfg-GE-MM and GLC-SX-MM moduels, no difference at all 1g sfp are in the first 5 slots. only the first two slots are up.the others say "Link not connected" or "SFP not inserted"all five links are the same SFP and are plugged in other switches.the green link lights are on plugged in SFP, even when the CLI states they are not plugged uni tried both two types of 1 Gb/s SFP. sfg-GE-MM and GLC-SX-MM ,i move the sfp between slot 1,2 and 3,4,5. nothing changed,From "sh int brief" you can see that it can see the sfp ie they are all 1Gfrom "sh int status " it sees 1g but why does it say type 10G?why when i go to the "int e 1/5" and try switch port mode now, it can't mode and trunk at now there (;also how to i stop or clear EU51 %SYSMGR-2-TMP_DIR_FULL: System temporary directory usage is unexpectedly high at 87%.i put as much info in the attached file as i could.

I upgraded the newest IOS 15.0(1)SE for our SW C2960-24-TT-L, the process was succeseful. However, we found SW memory utilization raised to 82% this morning in normal situation. (Momery: Total 21341260, Used17471692) Did you guys meet the same problem after upgrading to 15.0(1)SE? I also would like to know what the normal memory utilization is? and what is the impact of memory utilization highly?

We will install a new Supervisor Engine in our Nexus 7010.One Supervisor Engine is already installed an 1Year old.So the Problem is that both Supervisor Engines may have different NX-OS version.Could this lead to a problem?Does the installed Supervisor Engine "udate" the newer Supervisor engine?

We would like to add another Nexus5k to this topology. However, it has to be a zero downtime infrastructure add-on. When setting up the keep-alive, peer-link, vPC and vdc domain, will there be any upset in network traffic on the current N5k?Also, are the Nexus5k configurations synchronized or are they independent from one another? Before setting up the new 5k, should i configure it to teh 6509's, and vPC's to the Nexus2k's before setting up peer-link?

The company I work have finally decided to enter the 21st century and invest in a new telephone system (Interactive Intelligence) to replace the legacy system which has served us well for the past 10 years. The project has only just started and involves upgrading sections of CAT3 cabling to CAT6, replacing Cisco 3550 switches in one area of the building with Cisco 4507 switches and upgrading our Core switches with Cisco Nexus 7010's. The area that concerns me most is enabling the network for qos as I have very little experience with it. At the moment Im trying to read as much documentation as I can on QOS to bring myself up to speed.
The access layer switches will consist of a mixture of Cisco 3750 & 4507 switches connected to Cisco Nexus 7010 switches which will form a collapsed aggregation & core layer.
Basically, how I should approach this daunting task of making sure the network will support VOIP.

We are running ACE 20 modules in highly available active / standby (all active contexts on one module) mode. Currently they are on A2 (2.4) version. We are going to upgrade them to A2 (3.6a). The question is that how ling can we run them in two different SW levels? In otherwords can we have few days between upgrading both modules?

I am having issues trying to combine two modules into one VDC. The modules are as mentioned below: When I try to combine module 1 & 10 as shown above, the nexus 7000 switch displays 'Not compatible'. I've read the online guide and it mentions that the F2 and M1 module cannot be combine into the same VDC. Problem is, my customer has already purchased the module, how do i solve this problem? If I separate the VDC, how does module 1 talk to module 10 if user wants to send traffic to Internet or Server Farm?

we've had an issue with our network, we have 2 6509 connected with redundancy, which are connected with 2 x 4900 Switches, from which are connected to a ESX Chassis for visualization, the thing is that the ESX stopped working, and the 4900 switches, and the main core were suffering from overload, they hang on it very well, in order to stop the overload, one of the links to the ESX Chassis were disconnected from one of the 4900 switches. The CPU usage from the 4900 and the core(6509) went down below 40%, and then they started to migrate the virtual servers from the chassis to another 2 chassis that were added right after. They were actually working well, but suddenly the 6509 changed to the other supervisor after everything was OK. We were wondering what could have been the cause of this, maybe the virtual servers migrations, maybe the overload from the ESX ? We also had a few question, is there any need to reload the cores every few months as a planned task ? Because the cores have been up for more than 1 year. And also is there any kind of of tool to monitor the CPU status, or the status overall from the cores or the switches ?
