Cisco WAN :: 3745 / Migrating Configuration To New Router With Different IOS?

Sep 28, 2011

One of my clients has an older 3745 running IOS 12.3 and we are looking at replacing it with a new 3945 that runs IOS 15.0. This router is also configured with CME. Is it possible to migrate the current 12.3 config to load on the new 15.0 IOS? This will be my first encounter with 15.0 so I don't know what I am up against at this time. I am just hoping I don't have to retype all the ephone config, dial-peers, etc

Cisco WAN :: Migrating Router Configuration From 3725 To 3945e

I'm trying to migrate the running-config from our old 3725 router to our new 3945e router.  Almost all of the config is copied over except for a few lines that come up as unrecongnized commands.  So it looks like these commands were either removed or changed to something new.

Cisco WAN :: Migrating Sup720 Configuration To Sup2T?

migration of an existing Sup720 configuration to a new Sup2T. At present we have a Sup2T chassis in the lab running 15.0(1)SY1 and a production Sup720 chassis running 12.2(33)SXI5.I've taken a copy of the production startup-config, renamed it to 'startup-config-BGFL_6509_MBAS-020712' and copied it to the bootdisk (and slave bootdisk) of the new Sup2Ts.I've then added the command 'boot config bootdisk:startup-config-BGFL_6509_MBAS-020712' in an attempt to boot from that config and have the Sup2T migrate it to the new config standards (particularly from a QoS perspective as mentioned here :[URL]

Cisco WAN :: Have ADSL Router (887) At Site Which Has GRE Tunnel To 3745

Sep 14, 2011

Have an ADSL router (887) at a site which has a GRE tunnel to to a 3745.The GRE tunnel is setup with default ip mtu of 1476.If I ping from the 3745 to the ADSL router (or in the reverse direction)with a packet size of 1500 bytes this works fine. However if I ping from a router (R1) that is directly connected to 3745 to the ADSL router with a pkt size of1500 bytes then the first ping succeeds while the subsequent pings fail.Pkt sizes less than or equal to 1476 work okay.Pinging between R1 and the 3745 with a packet size of 1500 bytes works fine.If I set the tunnel ip mtu size to 1500 bytes then it works. This is obviously something to do with fragmentation, but I don't undertsand why itdoesn't work with the default mtu set to 1476.

Cisco WAN :: 3745 - L2TPv3 And Routed Interface On Same Router

Oct 30, 2010

I have a subnet (vlan 104) working great across a WAN.  At site 1, Router A (3745) has the L2TPv3 tunnel configured while Router B (7204) has a routed interface on vlan 104.

The only thing router A is doing is the tunnel, so I'd like put the tunnel on Router B and eliminate Router A.

The trouble is, when I move the configs to Router B, the tunnel comes up, but the far side does not receive traffic over the tunnel.

Router B shows sending and receiving packets (per the 'sh l2tun session all' command). The far end router shows sending packets but receiving 0.

Is it a problem to have both the vlan 104's L2TPv3 xconnect interface and the vlan 104's routed inteface on the SAME router?

Cisco VPN :: 3745 - Can't Access Internal Subnets Behind 2nd Router

Mar 10, 2012

I am really new to this and studiying so I know that I am doing something dumb. Anyway, I purchased an ASA 5505 and placed it between my Cable Modem and Cisco 3745 router. The outside interface on the ASA is dhcp, the inside interface is 192.168.100.1. The outside interface of the 3745 is 192.168.100.2 and the inside is 192.168.1.1. The VPN pool is 192.168.200.10 - 192.168.200.10.

Here's are the problems...

1. When I establish a VPN session to the ASA, I can ping and access any resources dierectly connected to the ASA's interfaces and on the ASA's internal 192.168.100.0 network. However, I cannot access any resources behind the 3745. I cannot even ping 192.168.1.1.

2. Although I believe that I sent up split-tunnel, I cannot U-Turn back to the internet once connected to the VPN.

Cisco WAN :: Routing Loop Due To High Utilization Of Router 3745

Dec 31, 2012

I've came across a very odd topology to deal with where everything is connected to everything, without proper utilization of VLANs.

- I've an L3 SW and a 3745 RTR at core
- Both are carrying same subnet to an L2 distribution switch that connects server farm within the same subnet (i.e. 1.1.3.x subnet)
- The L2 switch works as a passive switch, hence another network say, 1.1.2.x has been plugged into it as well.
- This L2 switch extends to other switches without configuration of any VLANs or STP and distributes 1.1.3.x network.

Periodically and unexpectedly, the router starts hanging and utilization goes beyond 80%, and there's nothing at all that is observed in "sh proc cpu" to be eating router resources. Its quite difficult to observe the pattern, as its random.

Cisco WAN :: Port Adapter Is Disabled Deactivated On NM4A/S In 3745 Router

May 18, 2012

I am having a problem getting serial interfaces to show up with a NM4A/S card in a 3745 router.  It  worked at first but now the serial interfaces don't show up in  running-config but show diag shows the card is present but says "Port  adapter is disabled deactivated".  I have tried the card in 3 different  slots and of course turned off power when moving card around (left power  cord in for grounding). Again, it was once working (serial interfaces  were showing up in running-config) so if I  damaged the slot somehow, however I was very careful when seating card.   Have been searching the learning network and google for days now to no  avail.  Have tried to find something similar to the card type command  thinking the port adapter needs to be activated but have not found any  documentation about that.  Hope card isn't bad all of a sudden but  really don't think it is since it worked before and it seems to be  recognized just not showing serial interfaces in running-config/sh ip  int b (on ios/cli).  Really think it's something along the lines of  activating card, but not sure.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3745 Router Failed To Exchange The Reference Signal

I am almost new to the networking field, hence I might have lacking some basic knowledge. I like to know the impact if the ground of any router get disconnect. WIll the router stops work?  We have two peripheral router in my organization, both are connect with the MPLS cloud through the MUX. One router (3745) have ground connection, where as the other (3845) don't. Recently the 3745 router start generating CRC error on the WAN interface. Once we remove the patch cord connecting with the MUX for loop test and reconnect later, the interface did not come back again. FInaly someone advice me to check the ground connection. I found it was loose. Once I fix it properly and reboot the router the interface become up. The person told me that some cisco router send the reference signal through the ground to the MUX connecting with it, if the MUX and router failed to exchange the reference signal the router will not work, is this true ?

Cisco WAN :: Migrating From A PIX 501 To ASA5505

Jan 22, 2011

We are pulled the plug on our PIX 501 as its not letting us use all 100Mbit that our cable provider is now piping to us. I read the conversion guide but it made no mention of the 501's. Only the 515's or newer. The ASA5505 is putting up a little bit of a fight (This what I get for failing my CCNA??)After refusing to configure the LAN ip address to something other than what it was shipped with, I broke down and connected to the management console and forced an IP address on the LAN side. Now I reset my default config and everyone can get on the internet.Until the ISP cuts you off because you forgot to set your static IP. Oh, and by the way, they dont support Cisco gear.

When I attempt to assign the IP to the outside interface, it accepts without a hitch, but everything grinds to a halt. I cannot have this, as I have off-site users that operate with dedicated ports using Remote Desktop.  I've attempted to set the IP via both ASDM and management console. I've tried setting a static route, but that doesnt give me any love either. Im running ASA Version 8.2(1) and ASDM Version 6.2(1)Once I get the static IP set and working properly, I can tackle moving the port configs.

I successfully performed it for IP settings, it was easy since the data format was the same.

But the format differs quite alot for Interface and Port data, here is an example:

export from LMS 3.1
IF-hostname/17 [Gi0/0.524] [10.55.254.3]; INTERFACE:;IF-hostname/17; MANAGED_STATE:;EXPLICITLY_UNMANAGED
export from LMS 4.2.3
INTERFACE:IF-hostname/17 MANAGED_STATE:MANAGED GigabitEthernet0/0.524

It looks like I have convert interface names, sort and delete stuff to make it look the same.

Cisco VPN :: Migrating From PIX 515e To ASA 5510

Jan 28, 2011

I have recently migrated from a PIX 515e to an ASA 5510. In the main this was successful. However, I have a number of L2L VPN's (all connecting to Cisco PIX 501 or 505). The majority of these VPN's are working fine. However, I have a couple of VPN's that are causing me a problem. It seems like the tunnel is established for anything between 10 minutes and 4 hours before going 'down'. I cannot initiate the tunnel again from the hub end (ASA 5510) of the VPN.However, if the remote end reboots the PIX, the tunnel is re-established.The ASA is running 8.3(1) and the remote PIX's will be running various versions of code but will all be 6.3(x). The strange thing here is that the majority of the sites are working and the config for each tunnel is identical other than the access-lists for interesting traffic and peer address.

Cisco Firewall :: Migrating To New ISP - ASA 5510

Jan 4, 2012

I currently have the following set up (excuse my quick drawing):

--------------Vendors VPN Router----
|    ------Cisco 3000 VPN------        |
|    |                                   |        |
Private Network-------ASA5510---------Pub Switch------Cisco Router 2x T1

I've been tasked with migrating to the new ISP, which provides us with Cisco ME-3400E switch and /26 public subnet. I currently have 15 static NATs and 14 L-2-L VPN tunnels configured in ASA. Is there a way to configure additional Outside int on ASA and use it to migrate the existing VPN tunnels and static NATs? I'm trying to avoid downtime and hope to do it step by step. I'm thinking about adding additional Public switch, so I can also migrate vendor's router and VPN concentrator, which need to be in parallel to ASA. Assuming that this is possible I'd would like to do the following:

1.Configure and connect additional Outside Interface on ASA - public IP address and ACLs

2.Connect it to additional "Public switch", which would be configured with public IP address and connected to new ISP's Cisco ME-3400E.

3.Migrate my VPN tunnels and static NATs.

4.Migrate vendors equipment/VPN concentrator

5.Update my global NAT pool

6.Shut down old ISP

Now knowing it has reached end of sale, and also for the fact that Prime does cover devices like routers, i went ahead to the upgrade path via PUT (Product Upgrade Tool). Finally I received an email (OBA) advising my order is ready. This email included two items in the shipment,

L-N-PI12-100-M=
NCS 1.0 to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Minor Upg 100 Device
L-PILMS42-100-M
Prime Infrastructure LMS 4.2 - 100 Device Upgrade Lic

When i click to the link in the same email to download the license, it only shows me one file which is L-PILMS42-100-M  I tried using this file and installing on the NCS1.0 but it gives me error that this file is not a license file. The license name suggests me that it is not the license to be installed on the NCS. The file should be L-N-PI12-100-M=

Cisco WAN :: 3745 IOS 15.2 Changed Commands

Jan 22, 2012

we've got a pair of old 3745's that are getting upgraded to new  2911's, and I'm trying to run IOS 15.2 on the new routers to get them most current before going into test and production use.The routers are doing BGP, IPv4, and HSRP, and I'm trying to put one in  at a time as to not have to big bang everything at once.  I'm putting  the one that matters least in first, and basically using the same config  as the old one, which was running IOS 11.

I was using "no ip mroute-cache" on ethernet interfaces, and it says  that command is deprecated and I should use the MFIB commands instead.  Darn if I know what that means, I believe it was set up so the ethernet  interfaces had IP multicast fast switching disabled, which was set up by  our vendor 10 years ago so I'm not sure if it matters. It would seem  logical to me this would have an impact on HSRP and speed of failover.   Does this matter, and if so how in the world do I do this with IOS 15.2?The second one is the use of "no fair-queue" on our serial connection  for a T1.  This command isn't there either, and I'm not sure if I even  need to bother on this. It was set up on the old router on a T1 Frame  Relay circuit.
