Cisco Firewall :: ASA5525-X / Accessing IPs Of Public Servers From Inside Interface?

Oct 30, 2012

Got an ASA5525-X with 8.6 release. We have an inside interface (10.11.1.0/24) and a DMZ interface (10.254.1.0/24). On that DMZ interface theres an SMTP server; by using the Public server feature in ASDM we created a rule so we have mapped the 10.254.1.29 internal ip to an external ip 217.x.x.x Everything is fine; working ok, but for several reasons we need to access the public ip 217.x.x.x from an inside ip (10.11.1.10). I tried to do it by creating an exemption for the dynamic nat; if i don't do that i have a 'deny ip spoof from...' message rolling on my syslogs.Seems to do the trick.....but only for pings! i ping the public ip from the inside ip, and got the reply from the internal ip on the DMZ. But if i want to telnet port 25 from inside to public; its not working.

Cisco :: Accessing Inside PAT From DMZ Network?

Setup as follows:

Cisco ASA 5510
Inside 172.17.101.249
outside 5.5.5.2
DMZ 192.168.100.1

I have an internal server 172.16.1.202 that is PAT to 5.5.5.103 to allow RDP connections. - This works fine from the internet.I have now been asked to allow our guest wireless (192.168.100.0/24 - DMZ) to access this same external connection. We have 2 cisco controllers, with the guest controller "anchored" in the DMZ.I cannot get this to work. Both the DMZ and inside NAT their internet connections to 5.5.5.2.

ASA 5505 Content Filtering For Inside Network

Feb 26, 2012

I'm looking for a content filtering/antivirus/antispyware appliance for my company. Right now we have an ASA 5505 at the edge. We have several outside employees connecting via Cisco VPN clients to the ASA. I need an appliance that can do content filtering for my inside network, guest network, and VPN users. That's two local VLANs and a VPN pool which are all terminated at the ASA.

I've had good luck with Cymphonix in the past, but their boxes are a bit steep for the amount of throughput I need. We'll probably be moving from a 15/15 fiber connection to 80/10 cable soon since our provider can't seem to keep us online; even with an alleged "100%" SLA. They just don't have a network capable of anything close to 100% uptime, plain and simple.

I'd like to keep the ASA running as our firewall and VPN server, so the device needs to be able to do content filtering/av/as in a transparent mode.

Cisco Firewall :: PIX 515e Accessing Node On DMZ From Inside Interface

Mar 31, 2013

I have a PIX 515e running version 7.2(4).I have 2 interfaces - DMZ3 (sec lvl 50) and LAB (sec lvl 100) behind the pix. There is also the OUTSIDE interface (sec lvl 0) which connects to the internet. In DMZ3 I have a webserver - x.x.124.217/24 (host is NATed via static command to public IP)In LAB I have a server - x.x.1.203/24 (entire range is NATed via NAT/Global statements to public IP)The server in LAB needs to access a webserver in DMZ3. From the internet both of these hosts have public addresses that are NATed into the inside addresses. I can reach the webserver from the internet, but not from the LAB interface.I think I have to add a static command so that the LAB host can access the DMZ3 host without accessing the internet.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2600 - Accessing Servers / Ports From One VLAN To Another

Jan 24, 2013

I’m working with a managed switch that has three V LANs setup on it.  Recently the domain changed and the wireless V LAN can no longer access the internal website.  I found access rules, in the switch that allowed the wireless V LAN to use the DNS server on the private/staff V LAN.   Their DHCP scope is on the switch and DNS is set there.  The Website is also on the V LAN with the DNS server.  This configuration totally cuts out external DNS usage.  It stopped working though.  It is as if when things switched on the Domain the wireless users were denied DNS requests.  The switch was not touched at that time.  I’m looking at it though and it seems that I may have conflicting rules.

The version is 12.2.  I believe its a Catalyst 2600~
DHCP scopes: ip dhcp pool INSIDE    network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0    default-router 192.168.1.1    dns-server 192.168.1.6 192.168.1.4    domain-name saline.lib.mi.us
ip dhcp pool WIRELESS
network 172.16.0.0 255.255.255.0    default-router 172.16.0.1    dns-server 192.168.1.6 192.168.1.4

Here is the V LAN Setup:
Interface Vlan1
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
[code]...

Here are two access lists that should be allowing the traffic from 172.16.0.0 into the list IPs/Ports.  These do no work.

ip access-list extended WIRELESS-PRINT
permit tcp 172.16.0.0 0.0.0.255 host 192.168.1.12 eq 30044
permit tcp 172.16.0.0 0.0.0.255 host 192.168.1.12 eq 21326
permit tcp 172.16.0.0 0.0.0.255 host 192.168.1.12 eq 6987
[code]...

During my testing I removed the Deny rule and everything worked. deny   ip 172.16.0.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255

However, the  “   permit ip any any   “ rule, makes all the port rules pointless because when this rule is in place solo, I can ping and access everything on the 192.168.1.0 network. Is there a way to deny everything, except what I permit?  Because when I remove the ip any any, then they cant even get out.  Perhaps there a better way to say, the wireless users can get out but only get into the sub net over specific ports?  I have a feeling it may have not be thought out entirely when initially created.  However, the big mystery is that it worked before secondary domain controller failed.

Linksys Wired Router :: EA2700 Accessing Internal Web Servers

Sep 20, 2012

I just moved from a Linksys wired router to the Cisco EA2700 wired/wireless router.I have three web servers on my network that serve up content via standard web URLs.  For example, pretend www.domain.com pointed to the WAN side of my EA2700.  Port forwarding routes port 80 traffic to the server, located on an internal, private IP (ie, 192.168.1.21).All works well when accessing these servers from outside my network (I checked this via my mobile broadband connection).  But when I'm on a workstation internal to the same network as the servers, I cannot connect to the servers via the web URL.  Of course, I can hit them via the IP or an internal-only DNS network entry.  For example, when on 192.168.1.55 on a desktop machine, and I type the URL in the form www.domain.com, it just hangs and times out.  I was able to do this on the old Linky router.  Traffic should go stop at the router and be re-routed back internally to the port-forwarded server - but it does not.

I have to route properly via the web URL and not the internal DNS name or IP addy, as I am running virtual web servers on IIS on one of the servers. Is there a setting I failed to set on the EA2700?

Cisco Firewall :: 5580 Need To NAT Addresses To Inside Servers

Jul 7, 2012

We are going to setup a L2L VPN with a vendor and they asked us to NAT a couple IP addresses for remote access to a couple of servers on our inside network. Our device is an ASA 5580 with version 8.1 and we have a handfull of public IP addresses for use if needed. The vendor's remote network is a public IP address but for this posting I will use 192.168.10.0. Our inside servers are 10.100.10.20 and 10.100.10.30. Because 10.100.10 is in use with another customer they asked us to NAT 10.77.97.20 and 10.77.97.30 to the two inside servers.

Cisco Security :: ASA 5550 / Communication Between Servers On DMZ And Inside?

Feb 15, 2012

We have ASA 5550, I have a citirx server in the dmz which is natted statically to a public ip address for port 443. The dmz server communicate with our internal server (i.e. AD) for LDAP authentication. I have a static transparent nat from inside to dmz for the internal server's communcation with dmz.

When accessing the application from inside the network on the internal web server it works perfectly fine and authenticates with the AD.But when accessing from outside, the reach the citrix server and then the AD authentication fails, basically it works intermitantly. I have tried to check the communcation from the DMZ server to the internal server and the icmp works perfectly fine, even I am able to telnet on the ports specified on the internal servers from the DMZ servers. I tried to look into the logs on the ASA and this is something that looks suspicious to me.

Cisco Firewall :: Accessing DVR Through ASA 5505

This message does not pop up when on the local subnet. Additionally, in the login screen, there is a language selection, and sometimes all languages are blanked out. There is a space for them, but they don't display.

I've tried this on a half a dozen machines, either XP or Win7 with IE8 and IE9, and they all do the same thing. I disabled http inspection, but that doesn't work. I also did a packet capture, and the only packets that traverse the ASA.

Cisco VPN :: ASA 5505 / 5510 - VPN Client Accessing Remote LAN

Apr 2, 2012

Trying to figure out how to configure the VPN client side to access a remote LAN.

Lan A - 172.16.17.0 - ASA5505 8.2(3)
Lan B - 200.200.0.0 - ASA5510
Cisco Client - V5

At present there exist a VPN tunnel between LAN A and LAN B. The client has a VPN tunnel to LAN A to run software package X on the LAN A server. The client also needs to run software package Y which needs access to a database on LAN B.  The computers on LAN A have no problem using package Y since a VPN tunnel exist between LAN A and LAN B. How can I get the Client to also access LAN B on the same tunnel created when the client connects to LAN A? I can't seem to get packets that are directed to LAN B to cross the Client tunnel to A which would then hopefully move onto the LAN A/ LAN B tunnel.

Cisco VPN :: 5505 SSL VPN Works From Inside But Not Outside

Sep 20, 2012

I'm setting up a VPN in order to share files between two locations. I'm not sure it's the best solution, but he insists on using his Cisco ASA 5505 Firewall via a clientless VPN. His set-up is a simple residential cable modem (Motorola SurfBoard/TimeWarner) set in DMZ mode, the Cisco ASA, and an Ubuntu server.

The Clientless VPN is set up, as are the user groups, and bookmarks. I'm able to browse to the firewall's internal interface IP (https://192.168.1.1) and log in to the Clientless VPN portal, and from there, I can access all of the plug-ins I've configured (CIFS, VNC, etc). The problem is that I cannot connect from outside the local area network.

I think it's something very basic that I'm missing, like a NAT rule. I've tried adding some, but they always seem to interfer with the NAT rule allowing users to connect, via the internet, to the Apache web server (port 80) running on the Ubuntu machine behind the ASA Firewall.

Like I said, I'm not sure this is the best solution for him. Using an ASA seems like overkill for something that can be accomplished with some software, but he and I are both fans of Cisco, and, as I said, he is adament about using this set-up. If it comes down to it, I'd like to be able to honestly tell him that I exhausted every resource in trying to find a way to make this work for him before giving up and going to "Plan B".
