How To Know That Who Is Taking Up All Bandwidth

Apr 26, 2012

I've been experiencing problems with internet speeds at my church and my home. They both have security keys, but many people use it. I was wondering - Is there a free tool to monitor who/which device is taking up all of the bandwidth? Something that kind of points out, "Hey, this guy is really slowing you down". Possibly even (But not necessarily) kill their connection?

Cisco VPN :: ASA5520 Outside Interface Non Route-able Address

Aug 29, 2012

I am currently working with a vendor to get my ASA5520 setup to handle IPsec VPN connections for my clients and we are stumped with how to get the outside interface to respond to connections/requests.

I work for a state agency and our network connectivity is provided to us by another agency/department.  The firewall I want to use for VPN connectivity has an outside address of 10.0.8.162 which is not routable outside the state's network.  I have been assigned a set of public IP addresses for servers in my DMZ and I am wondering if it is possible to configure the ASA to utilize one of those public IP addresses for VPN communication.  My DMZ network is setup as a local 192.168.10.0 network and the ASA is performing NAT translations to the corresponding public IP addresses.

Putting in a NAT rule to translate one of the public IP addresses to the 10.0.8.162 outside interface, but I wasn't sure if that would work.

Wireless :: IPhone Taking Down Network?

Apr 13, 2012

Mobile devices are saturating our medium sized enterprise network. Examples of these devices are iPhones, iPads, Kindles, Droids, etc When a device is authenticated on our APMobile wireless network and downloads updates, email, or music our Network bandwidth is consumed. Services/Applications are no longer available, such as VoIP. Basically, this is an internal DoS.I have done some research and an example of this problem is an ARP Storm but currently clients obtain IP addresses form our DHCP server, which acts as a proxy for the clients and if effective against deliberate attempts to craft packets that create ARP Storm. In addition we configured the WLC to disable ARPunicast processing via the CLI.The following link is from Cisco's site. It is the ARPstorm that we originally thought was the cause but after more researching we found it wasn't this exact issue - http:[url]....why iPhones frequently take down our network? Could this be a configuration issue with our firewall (Cisco ASA 5520 running version 8.4(2))?

XP Windows Not Taking To New Wireless System

Feb 14, 2013

My old Actiontec M1000 modem recently died and my HP nc6120 with windows XP can not connect to the wireless network through the new Actiontec C1000A model. It connected wirelessly through the old M1000 moden. Window icons on the screen indicate no wireless network is detected. When I view the available networks and log in to the assigned network with its password, it looks like it is trying to connect but does not. It will connect through the ethernet link-up. I don't have any other wireless devices to connect to the network. I have updated the drivers for the wireless card through HP. I have taken the HP nc6120 to the Geek Squad and the wireless card connects with their network. I seem to have a compatibility problem with the old HP with its XP windows operating software and the new modem system. I have tried to reset the ip addresses, but this has had no effect. However, I do have purchased AVG protection software operating on the system, which I am not sure how to shut off. Is this a problem with a too advanced modem for an old style HP with an XP operating system? Is there a modem that I can downgrade to if it is? [code]

Cisco Firewall :: 5512X - IP Address Associated With Device Or Is It Interface Specific

Jan 21, 2013

I'm trying to get started on setting up my first Transparent ASA.I understand an ASA in Transparent Mode can now have an ip address with Bridge Groups or some such mechanism. I'm looking for examples of how to set that up and other information below. Is the ip address associated with the device or is it interface specific? Will I be able to SSH with that ip address setup? Can I use ASDM if the Transparent ASA has an ip address? This 5512X has an IPS. Any one who has setup an IPS on this platform knows it has some very particular requirments in order to communicate with the outside world. I need examples of how to do that with a Transparent ASA.How is NAT setup differently (if at all) on a Transparent ASA?Are ACLs done any differently?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA 5510 - Two Separate Address Pools On Same Interface?

Dec 25, 2012

We have an ASA 5510 and we also have two separate address pools which have been provided by our ISP.  The addresses are not contiguous.  Is there a way to configure an interface on the ASA to handle both sets of public address pools?  If the outside interface is set up on eth0/0 would I create two subinterfaces (eth0/0.1, eth0/0.2) and assign each subinterface an address pool?  Then just NAT/PAT to my heart's content?   At that point I would want both to route to our inside network.  So it's basically two inbound sets of IP addresses comming into one interface and then comming into the network...  Right now the outside interface is configured with our first set of IP addresses.  We wanted additional addresses and when we called our ISP they told us we already had them - just a different pool.  Hence the question.  I'm guessing that I wouldn't put anything specific on the outside interface and I would put the specifics on the subinterfaces?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5510 - Change Public IP Address On Outside Interface?

we have two Cisco ASA 5510 in failover configuration. We tried to change the public IP address on the Outside interface of the primary device but it didn't works. The new IP is not reachable from Internet nor pingable from device on the same LAN.The new IP address is in the same subnet of the old IP.

From the switch on which the ASA is connected and from another Cisco PIX we can see the ARP entry. In the analysis, on the old public IP address there was a VPN site-to-site and Webvpn defined. We tried also to shut/no shut the interface and reboot the device.

Cisco Firewall :: 5510 - Duplicate IP Address With ASA Inside Interface

Apr 5, 2012

We've had issues with our Exchange 2010 server (running on ESXi 4.1) since its default gateway was changed to our new ASA 5510.  They manifested as frequent Outlook client connection dropouts or as IP address conflicts whenever Exchange was rebooted.  The temporary fix was to disable the Exchange server NIC, bounce the ASA and enable the server's NIC again.  We saw poor performance from Exchange after a while again, but after some research and testing I realised that disabling proxyarp on the inside interface fixed the problem permanently.

However I've now realised that the client VPN no longer routes properly because proxyarp is disabled on the inside interface, so I still have a problem.

Cisco :: Moving A Port-channel Without Taking Down Traffic?

Mar 6, 2012

So I have a current port-channel between two 6ks that I need to upgrade. There's too much traffic and the port buffers on the SUP7203B sort of suck. Microbursts are causing overruns like mad. Im going to move the 2x1gig port-channel to a 6724 and make it a 3x1gig port-channel. The switches carry production traffic across the link to the tune of about 400 meg during the lowest load time. Initially, I thought that I couldn't move the port channel without temporarily taking down the link but I think I have a workable solution now. Has anyone done this successfully before? Im curious what others have done. Also, to make matters worse, the existing port-channel is 'mode on' and I want to migrate to 'mode active' in the new channel

SNMP trap is set from a fan fault, the Cisco send a trap to the LMS.  Now I want take that trap and forward via an email.

I have been reading the admin documentation on "Notification and Action Setting".  I see how to take the Cisco LMS created trap and email alarm.  (In this case I need a specific trap that LMS did not have.)  I see how to take Cisco Traps and resend them to other NMS.
