I am little confused of how to take bootloader backup of cisco 6506 switch with WS-C6506-1300A CHASSIS and WS-X6K-SUP2-GE sup I am pesting a the part of sh run to show you the image files for the switch.

I tried to upgrade IOS from SXI2a to SXI9 in cat 6506 VSS. But the problem is that switch always boot with old IOS. I put the new IOS in sup-bootdisk and slave sup-bootdisk, bootvar is ok with new IOS: [code] Show bootvar is ok but switch always boot with old IOS SXI2a, some bug in IOS sxi2a???, I will try to delete de old IOS from sup bootdisk and try with the new one only.

The core switch is a 6506 and one of the modules is the 48port POE module. The 6506 resides in the main building and we need to interconnect two other annexes to the main building via fibre. is it possible to have just 2 sfp ports on the 48 port module or how to connect the fibre cable to the switch?
Also, if the existent network is made up of Cat5e cables would it be of anyuse to use Cat6 cables for uplink for the switches on each segment to the core switch. I feel basically the Cat5e would nullify the speed of the Cat6 or am i wrong and this would make uplink speed faster.

We have one Catalyst 6506 ( with WS-SUP720-3B, IOS is 12.2(18)SXF14 ) and one Catalyst 6509 ( with WS-SUP720-3B, IOS is 12.2(18)SXF17a ). We used WhatsUP to collect I/O & process memory utilization for both switches. The memory utilization for Catalyst 6509 was ok, but it seems not correct for Catalyst 6506 ( show proc memory displayed the total memory is 512MB, but the WhatsUP displayed only 64MB only )

Why is it that when SNMPv3 user "TestV3-User" was added to my SNMPv3 implementation on my 6506 switch, the group/MD5/Emcryption settings are missing for this user (See "sh snmp user" output)???

I am attempting to install an asa 5510 at my hq. Our MPLS network is provided by our ISP and the routers are managed by them. They will be working with me to add the needed routes to the routers. Using version 8.4.1 That said, here is my challenge:
I am connecting the MPLS routers and WAAS device to my core switch(also performing inter-vlan routing) in VLAN 2. There are 3 connections needed for the mpls equipment and they are all in vlan 2 on my core switch. The firewall (ASA 5510 with security plus licensing) also has an interface (outside) in vlan 2.

I have several 2960s and 3750s and two 6506 (ws-cac-3000w) recently move to new location The power outlet is the same ,but Volt is different current 2960/3750 use this(one phase 3 wire) 220v and new location change to (from 3 phase 4 wire -> one phase 220v)6506 current using(one phase 3 wire) and will be change to (from 3 phase 4 wire -> one phase 220v)
I had search doc about power supply /cable , only show support single phase 220 v ,but not description vlot between each wire !!Does new location power outlet suit for 2960/3750s power and 6500 ws-cac-3000w ?!? Do I need chane power outlet back to current using?

Once I got LAP1142N from ebay and converted from Lightweight to Autonomous via TFTP but I see there is new IOS came out so it required to upgrade Bootloader which is c1140-boot-m.124-23c.JA1.bin and IOS is c1140-k9w7-tar.152-2.JB.Currently 1142N running IOS c1140-k9w7-tar.124-25d.JA and Bootloader Version 12.4(18a)JA.For while few hours ago I kept figuring it out how to upgrade bootloader on website but none of these will work.

I have just received a new Cisco 3750G Switch from my parent company. When attempting to install the switch, I discovered that it will not boot to CLI, only to the bootloader. After using the command boot, the switch attempts to boot the most current IOS version, but fails, stating "error loading XXXXXXXXXX.bin".
Obviously, I just need to get a functional version of the IOS onto the switch to boot, but the problem is exactly how can I do that? All (or most) the commands with which I am familiar are unavailable in the bootloader, so all methods known to me fail. Is there a simple way (maybe using the copy command?) to put the .tar or .bin file onto the flash?

We currently have 3* offices located in London, Reading and Oxford which have a (ISP) VPLS service to interconnect all sites.I am using RIPv2 for intersite routing between all offices. We plan on implementing a backup circuit at the Oxford office for resiliency.There are 2* Core 4500 Switches, Core 1 is uplinked to the Primary circuit and Core 2 will be uplinked to the Backup circuit.At the moment Core 2 learns all of its routes from Core 1.My question is, if the Primary circuit goes down, how do we get the Routing on the Core Switches to than point out of the backup circuit?

I have two 3750 switch.switch A(main) and switch B is connected by OFC but i have another wireless link for backup.Now if OFC goes down then i manually connect wireless link with switch B for this reasons i am faceing a lot of problem. I want without any changing of cable if my primary link goes down then my backup link automaticaly goes up and vice versa .
Switch-A port gi1/0/9 and Switch-B port gi1/0/9 is connect by OFC Switch-A port gi1/0/8 and Switch-B port gi1/0/8 is connect by Wireless link (backup) i attach my network diagram kindly find the attachment file.

I have WRT120N, i recently updated the firmware. 1.0.06. only my bad is i done it wireless. so its basically interrupted.I have tried, hard reset and power cycle and reinstall the firmware but still the problem occurs, this time its wired.it happens intermittently. i have tried pressing reset upon turn on and reinstall firmware on the bootloader. it stablized for a while but then disconnects and blinking stikes again.

We want to configure RTR in our network ,having a Cisco 6506 core Switch & 50 Cisco 2960 Switches. As per the ios on the 6506 the rtr command is supported not the ip sla , so we want to configure it on it.
The RTR configuration on the Source device (Cisco 6506 Sw) can be done through the below commands :
1) enable
2) configure terminal
3) rtr <Entry number>
4) type echo protocol ipIcmpEcho <Hostname or A.B.C.D IP address or hostname> source-ipaddr < IP address >
5) frequency seconds
6) exit
7) rtr schedule entry-number [life {forever | seconds}] [start-time {hh:mm[:ss] [month day | day month] | pending | now | afterhh:mm:ss] [ageout seconds] [recurring]
8) exit
RTR configuration on the target devices (Cisco 2950 SW )will be :

The query here is that :

2) And for every Cisco 2950 Switch , i have to create seprate rtr entry on Cisco 6506 Sw for example for 50 target device i have to create 50 entries on source device 6506?

I upgraded the IOS on 6506E, SUP 720-10GE, non-redundant, to a new one, rebooted OK. Switch seems to work fine but "show bootvar" shows the previous IOS name instead of the new one: s72033-advipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXJ3.bin.Removed the old IOS name on "boot var", gave it new IOS name, "show bootvar" now has correct new IOS name, write mem again and reloaded switch.It booted up OK but "show bootvar" still has the old IOS: "s72033-ipbasek9-mz.122-33.SXI2a.bin".According to IOS upgrade procedure, after all the upgrade IOS steps done, then just "write mem" then the "bootvar: will have the new IOS name, but on my switch it is always has the old IOS name ? How can I set the bootvar to new IOS name?

I have a scenario with a Cisco 6506 and a 7206. The 6506 is running BGP and peers with our data center router. The 7206 is a stub router off the 6506 and is used as an edge router for customer T1 circuits. I want to use OSPF between the routers to exchange connected and static routes. The problem I have is that static BGP null routes on the 6506 are overriding the OSPF routes being received from the 7206. Example: The 6506 is advertising a class C network 192.168.1.0/24 to our data center. The 6506 does not utilize the 192.168.1.0/24 network. It is only used on the 7206 for customer T1 circuits and is carved up into /29 subnets. So the 6506 has a static route: ip route 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 null 0. Today the routing is accomplished with static routes on the 6506 for the 192.168.1.0 networks on the 7206. Using OSPF the 7206 advertises /29 links back to the 6506, but when I withdraw one of the /29 static routes from the 6506, the /24 null route takes precedence over the more specific /29 routes and the traffic is black-holed on the 6506. how can I get the OSPF routes to look preferable to the /24 null route on the 6506?

I have a 6506-E here that randonly drops packets and I'm trying to find out why.
When debugging ip packets (debug ip packet 52), I found a whole lot of these:

I have a Cat6506. There were 2 Sup 720 in it for redundancy. They told me they had problems with this thing in the past needing to go out and reboot the machine. I need to go out periodically because it goes into ROMMON. I type boot and it comes back up. One time though neither one would reboot. I had to take a third one out there and reconfigure it. Now it is starting to do the same thing. One thing I did notice is they never connected it to an UPS. It is plugged strait into the wall with power going to two outlets. I am beginning to think there are spikes in the power occurring and this is sending it into ROMMON.

I'm replacing a PA-POS-OC3-SM with PA-POS-1OC3 in a flex Wan module (WS-X6582-2PA) in Cisco 6506 using WS-SUP32P-GE PISA.I have a hard time bringing the "protocol up. the status I see is line up and protocol down. Debug shows (attached) no comunication with the edge router but when i put the older PA (PA-POS-OC3-SM ) back evertything works fine and older PA has been running for many years without the issue. I'm replacing older PA is becuase this is going EOL. I had opened a TAC case but the TAC engineer added no value. [code]

Access-group only allows me to set the mode.access-group > mode > prefer > port > int g2/1,Those are the only options available to me, it doesn't allow me to go.ip access-group <name> in or out or access-group <name> in or out.
I realize the commands may be a little off, I don't have a switch nearby. When I get on our 3750 there are no issues, it allows you to apply the ACL the conventional way. I just can't seem to find any way to apply an ACL on an interface on the 6506 though.

I currently have a vlan/SVI on my 6506 for the WiSM service-port. The WiSM has an address on the same subnet. To manage the WiSM, I either https to the Management interface address or use 'session slot X proc Y' from the the 6506. Since I am essentially only using two addresses from a subnet for this service-port I would like to free up the subnet. Can I keep my current functionality by having a vlan only (with the wism service-vlan XX command) with no SVI?

We purchased two new 4948 with two 10GE uplink ports and upgraded the devices to run IOS 15. My 6506 is running Sup 720 with s77233-adventerprisek0_wan-mz.122-33.SXI9. Currently we have 4948's connected to the same 6506's with no problems. Today I tried to add the new switches with new IOS and it caused of of my 6506 core switches to failover. I can't explain why because it was close to start of business and couldn't do much troubleshooting.
Currently we have four 4948 (running IOS 12.2(14) switches running Layer2 connecting dually to each of the two 6506 cores via 10GE fiber uplinks. I tried to add two more to the scenario, again running layer2 and dual-honing them to each of te 6506 switches. there are two 6506 core switches and they run HSRP and spanning tree is manually set to give priority to even vlans on one 6506 and odds on the other 6506. Also the new switches I tried to add did had rootguard applied as well as the uplinks.
We have to get this working and have no test environment to work with. We need to do this late this evening after close of business.
On another note, I have had problems upgrading some of my older 4948's to IOS 15. I followed Cisco's suggestion and upgraded the EPROM first and then the IOS upgrade took on three of the switches that were ordered rather recently. The four that were ordered in one batch will not take the upgrade even following Cisco's instruction and lots of other tricks. Nothing works. Having problems with IOS 15, in general?

I have a problem with high CPU load by DHCP Snooping process on Catalyst 6506 (WS-SUP720-3B, soft: s72033-ipservices_wan-mz.122-18.SXF11.bin). I have it enabled on 15 VLANS, in which there are subscriber devices residing, and sending DHCP requests through Cisco to DHCP server (Cisco acts as DHCP relay, and it's collecting the snooping database, I also use DAI).
Snooping database contains 6962 bindings now.
CPU load goes high only sometimes, and I don't have a clue, why it's going so high. It can load as high as 45-47% of CPU, like this:

When the load is high, the command: show ip dhcp snooping statistics is showing, that the overall quantity of
Packets Processed by DHCP Snooping is increasing rapidly. In normal situations, it's like 10-20 packets per second, but when the load is high, it's 1000-10000 pps.
But when I look at SPAN from my subscriber's VLANS, I don't really see any flood of DHCP requests, or something like that - everything looks as usual. Maybe, some of subscriber's devices are sending incorrect DHCP requests, that are causing packets to loop inside RP, or something like that? How can I detect that thing?
Also I thought, that if I enable the ip dhcp snooping trust mode on all of the Catalyst interfaces, the DHCP snooping will not process the subscribers DHCP packets, and I can, by exclusion of interfaces from one to one, detect, from which interface the problem is originating. But this seems to be incorrect, I turned the ip dhcsp snooping trust on all interfaces, and I still get spikes of CPU load by DHCP snooping process. Why it's still examining packets, even on trusted interfaces, is it ok?
And one more question - if I disable the ip dhcp snooping globally, will it clear all my existing bindings in snooping database?
