my 2970 having intermittent problem. i would like to swap with my backup switch WS-2950T. when i try to configure the 2950 following the 2970 config, i unable to perform this command "switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q". does 2950T does not support this command??

View 3 Replies View RelatedHad a switch die over the weekend, a c3560, per our normal procedure I pulled the hardware put a very basic config on it(vlans, portchannel, uplink ports, ip of management vlan, con and vty security, snmp, enable secret, and hostname). Then I use solarwinds orion to upload a copy of the old config to bring the switch back to the same state as the one that failed. Its a system that has worked for us 3 or 4 times in the past. But this time when the base config was on the box it couldnt ping across the network.I have tried clearing the arp cache and the dynamic mac tables, i verified the routing tables and even removed the 10.1.185.128/27 route and re-added it, saw the routing update go across to the other 65k, tried bouncing the edge switch(i cant bounce the 65k's), took down the po between the edge and 65k.

My company uses Cisco 891's in replacement of the 1811 where we would have DBU used via an external modem and a triggered time of 3 minutes after a primary connection failure was identified. In testing the 891 in a Layer 2 failure environment, it is within milliseconds that the v.92 port is engaging after the layer 2 failure. Has anyone been able to get it to attempt at a more than millisecond rate?

I have tried IE 8 and 9, Firefox 3.16 and 10.02, and Chrome from Windows 7 and XP Pro systems also tried FF and Chrome from Ubuntu system. The page just never loads - doesn't show anything.The same is true of the Download/Backup/Configuration/Log page. The other links under Administration > File Management seem to work fine.
View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to configure a backup route to the internet. My client has 2 ISP and basically they want to use 1 ISP and in case the ISP fails, use the other one as backup route to the internet.
The problem I’m facing is that each ISP is plugged to a dedicated ASA 5510, so 1 ISP in one firewall and 1 in the other. Both ASA are plugged to an internal network in a dedicated VLAN with a L3 switch and that L3 switch manages the internal network.
My question is, how can I tell my switch to use ASA1 to go out to the internet and in case the ASA 1 OR THE LINK TO INTERNET used by ASA 1 fails, use ASA 2? It would be great if I can send traffic to the internet thru both connections at the same time. Also, I know the ASA has High Availability configuration, but that applies only if both licenses in the devices are the same and I have a mismatch with the SVPN license, and also I don't know if with my current topology I can use the High Availability model, so I think I can’t use that option and the solution must be applied in the L3 switch, but I don’t know how to tell it to use ASA1 and if failure of the device or the outside interface plugged to ISP 1, then use ASA2. Besides, I would like to know how to optimize this config to do the switch between internet connections seamless to the users if possible (there are VoIP calls on this floor, so I don't want to drop the calls).

There are nothing backup and nothing in the log.
Here's my problem. I'm going to be using Cisco 1941 routers at a bunch of remote sites. All of these sites have 2 comm paths out. Some of them have 2 IP/VHF radios and some have 1 IP/VHF radio and a copper link using Patton ethernet extenders. From the VHF radios the data hit our MPLS network back to our HQ and the sites with copper go directly back to our HQ. Everything ends up at a Cisco 4948 switch. The problem I'm having is that I want the routers at the remote site to use one ethernet port (G0/0) as the primary and the other (G0/1) as the backup interface. I've tried the backup interface command but the problem is that depending on where an outage occurs the ethernet link to either the radio or Patton stays up so it never switches over. We're using OSPF as our routing protocol and I'm sure there's something that can be done with it but I'm not sure what.

What I am trying to do is use a cable/dsl/ broadband (secondary) connection as a backup to a MPLS circuit (primary). I have EIGRP and BGP configured on both the branch endpoint and the tunnel headend. The tunnel is used by the interface that connects to the secondary circuit. The branch location router is a 1841 and the "headend" tunnel router is a 3825. I am wondering about the configuration/syntax of a "weight" or static route that can be used to have data flow over the tunnel when the MPLS circuit goes down - and then switch back to the MPLS circuit when it comes back on line.

We plan on implementing a backup circuit at the Oxford office for resiliency.There are 2* Core 4500 Switches, Core 1 is uplinked to the Primary circuit and Core 2 will be uplinked to the Backup circuit.At the moment Core 2 learns all of its routes from Core 1.My question is, if the Primary circuit goes down, how do we get the Routing on the Core Switches to than point out of the backup circuit?
