Cisco WAN :: Gigabit Ethernet Loopback Plug For 3845 Router Gigabit Interface

I have an Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs) made and trying to test the Gigabit Interface on a 3845 Router with a fail result. The interface will show up/up only if I set the interface to 100M/Full Duplex when I plug-in the Ethernet Loopback Plug (4 Pairs). I don't see this Gigabit Interface @ 3845 router has any option to set it to internal or external loopback.

Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC Won't Detect Ethernet Cable?

Aug 8, 2012

I am having a problem with my Realtek RTL8168D/8111D PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It is not detecting my ethernet cable, and thus leaving me without internet on my desktop, after i updated its driver. The cable is not the problem as I have tested the cable with my laptop. I tried rolling back drivers, doing system restore and removing drivers with driversweeper and letting windows install the drivers again. However, none of these worked for me. I doubt the NIC is faulty as it was working before i updated the drivers. I am using windows 7 home premium 64-bit.

Using Netgear Gigabit Ethernet Switch Instead Of Router?

Jan 7, 2011

So my old router needed replacement and my dad bought a Netgear gigabit ethernet switch instead of a router. It said that it gets 1Gbps when I look inside the local area connection speed. The problem was we tried to use it like a router but only 2 computers could connect to the internet at one time but it was indeed noticeably faster when it came to video streaming speed. We since returned it and bought a Netgear N600 router that says the speed is 300mbps but like my old router it shows the speed is actually 100mbps and the streaming is good for the most part but every now and then slows down. Would using the ethernet switch with our new router work with streaming speeds and connection stability and of course let more computers connect and also use the routers wireless.

E3200 - Gigabit Ethernet Wireless Router With DD-WRT?

Feb 1, 2012

But I currently have a Linksys E3200 I bought in a moment of weakness after an evening of being pissed off at bricking my old WRT610N. (soft bricked, but I'm beyond screwing with it)

There's nothing *wrong* with it, but I am interested in something that either comes preinstalled with DD-WRT, or is well supported (ie easy to install on) by DD-WRT. I plan on selling the E3200 once I find something to replace it.

My requirements:
-Gigabit
-5 GHz (I have a file server/HTPC; I don't want to be limited to gigabit ethernet)
-$150 or less (I know $150 is high, but I figure I'll get close to that for the E3200)

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Gigabit Ethernet Very Slow?

Jul 18, 2011

I recently bought the E4200 thinking it would be the latest and greatest, and  I wouldnt' have to worry, but after just a simple test of transferring files between my Home Server, and my PC (Both connected over Gigabit ethernet using CAT6 cables, with only the E4200 inbetween).I use to get anywhere from 40 MegaBytes/second to 50MegaBytes/second on my D-Link 655.But now I am lucky to barely get 20 MegaBytes/second.  Is there an issue with this router?  or am I expecting too much from Linksys?

Gigabit Mixed With Fast Ethernet?

Oct 7, 2011

I currently have 2 PCs that are directly connected to each other via a 1Gbs Cat6 connection.I don't currently have a 1Gbs router so what I am doing right now is unhooking this connection and reconnecting both machines to my router when I need internet access. I have ordered some USB Wi-Fi adapters so I can have both machines access the internet that way whilst still use FTP between them on the 1Gbs line.If I were to scrap that idea and get a 1Gbs hub, connect both PCs straight into that, and then also connect the hub to my 100mbits router, would the 2 computers be able to communicate with each other at 1Gbs and then talk to the router at 100mbits, or would the whole network run at 100mbits.I don't really want to have to shell out on a 1Gbs router as I don't need anything else on the network to run at that speed.

Actiontec MI424WR / Advantages To Gigabit Ethernet?

Mar 30, 2011

I am moving into an apartment thereafter. I have an HTPC in use, a personal computer for gaming/processing, and my fiancee has an Apple Macbook Pro that she uses quite often. I have an HDHomeRun Dual (2 tuners) for streaming OTA/QSM cable over the network (the HDHomeRun plugs into the network, not a computer). I also have a TV and Blu-Ray player that have ethernet ports.

Currently I use Verizon Fios and their Actiontec MI424WR router, which to my knowledge has gigabet ethernet. When I move I will probably be saddled with Comcast Xfinity Internet, which will supply a cable modem if I want, but no router. The only router I currently own is a Zyxel NBG-419N, which has only 100/10 ethernet ports. My current computers all have gigabit ethernet. For the home theatre components and my HTPC, I plan to pick up a network switch with gigabit ethernet. So my questions are:

1. If I use the Zyxel and the Comcast cable modem, would I be throttling my network speed at the router? I would hate to choke my speed just because one component does not have gigabit ethernet.

2. If I were to upgrade to, say, an Asus RT-N56U, would that make a huge difference on network browsing and throughput speeds?

3. Finally, what kind of cable is needed to maximize discernible speed increase? Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6?

Cisco WAN :: Setting Up 1921 With Two Ethernet WAN Ports Going To Two Separate ADSL ISP

Feb 17, 2011

I am setting up a 1921 with two ethernet WAN ports going to two seperate ADSL ISP's (via bridged modems) and one connecting to the internal LAN. There is a single e-mail / web server behind the router.

I have been reading the following which is exactly what we want to do, but I have questions. Maybe failover would be better because Load Balancing seems a little too quirky without BGP. url...

How do we define public static IP's, the example seems to show DHCP?In order to detect if a line is down, it has to ping an IP address that is specific to the connection - correct? So could I use the gateway for the ISP? The issue I have with this is the gateway might be up, but the Internet down. Next, we need to make sure that when someone visits one of our public IP addresses, the return data is sent through the connection requested. What we don't want is a situation where incoming connections are not working. From experience, load-balancing causes certain websites and SaaS applications to break because requests are coming from two different ISP's. Is this the case with OER? Finally, any links, config or something to advise how a fail over only configuration would work given we have internal servers (PAT/NAT inbound would need to translate properly with the failover IP)? Basically if ISP 1 goes down, I.E. router cannot ping 8.8.4.4 then it switches to ISP 2, until ISP 1 comes back online and switches back? This would need to change the NAT rules for inbound as described.

Cisco WAN :: 1921 / Multicast Not Received Properly Via Bridged Ethernet Interface

Jun 9, 2011

Using a small network (WAN) with three 1921 routers (IOS 15.1(T)) connected via E1 links. One host (industrial PC - core 2 due running Win XP Pro) connected to each router. The spare Gigabit Ethernet port on each router is bridged with the active one (so a portable management PC (laptop) can be plugged in there and communicate with the router and the industriual PC.

Multicast routing strategy between the routers is as per "Anycast - Static RP", with PIM sparse-mode enabled on all interfaces and sink RP defined on all three routers.

Problem occurs when a (IPV4) multicast application on one PC communicates with the others:

(a) IGMP V2 membersip reports etc. work correctly at the sender and at the other two PCs receiving the multicast stream

(b) Multicast routing on the WAN is working correctly; running Wireshark on the receiving PCs shows that multicast data is received on the expected group.

(c) But, there is an error in the Ethernet packets

i. The first packet's Ethernet header contains the correct destination MAC address 01:00:5E:aa:bb:cc where aa:bb:cc match with the last three octets of the mulicast group's address, and that packet is received OK by the listening multicast application

ii. However, subsequent packets' Ethernet headers have the wrong MAC address 01:00:5E:00:00:00 (the last three octets are all zeroes and these packets are discarded by Windows on the receiving PC and not seen by the multicast application.

Problem is related to the presence of integrated routing & bridging; if I delete the bridge virtual interface, disable bridging and give the two Gigabit Ethernet ports their own IP addresses, the multicast reception works correctly; all received multicast packets have te expected value on the destination MAC address (matching the group address)I have used the same integrated routing/bridging configuration successfully on Cisco 2611 and 2811 routers and there was no such issue with the multicast packets.Have I overlooked some subtle aspect of configuration in the 1921 router or have I uncovered a bug...?

For reference - snippets from router configuration scripts
:
In the non-working configuration (with Integrated Routing & Bridging)
 interface GigabitEthernet0/0
no ip address
duplex auto
speed auto

[code]....

In the working configuration all the bridging is gone and the two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces have a very plain & simple configuration in different subnets

interface GigabitEthernet0/0
ip address 192.168.212.1 255.255.255.128
no ip directed-broadcast
ip pim sparse-mode
duplex auto

[code]....
