Cisco WAN :: R3 Is Not Rebroadcasting BGP Routes Into RIPv2 As Needed
Jul 24, 2011
I am working on a network that has four nodes/Currently I have RIP running in between R1 and R2, and between R3 and R2. These are shared and R1 can access R3 just fine.R3 is running BGP and communicating with R4.R3 can ping everything in R4's network with no difficulty.Currently R3 is not rebroadcasting the BGP routes into RIPv2 as needed.I have tried clearing my BGP session and am still not able to get the BGP routes from R4 to R1.

Is there a way in EIGRP to prefer external routes versus internal routes. EIGRP always picks up internal routes as long as they are available, no matter if external routes have better metric. Our Scenario is that we have DMVPN hub and spoke topology running EIGRP 101. The Core routers also on EIGRP 101 prefer EIGRP 101 routes. We have the new MPLS network running BGP and redistributing these BGP routes into EIGRP 101. The core routers prefer EIGRP 101 routes (internal) to redistributed BGP (external) routes.

saw that we can secure ripv2 via authentication (simple and MD5) ,i undertand that simple is not quite secure because we can see the plain text when capturing RIP packets
however even with MD5 i can see the authentication data (output of MD5) and i think hacker can copy it and paste it in one RIP packet that he will generate !! isn't it ? so how much MD5 is secure ?

We currently have 3* offices located in London, Reading and Oxford which have a (ISP) VPLS service to interconnect all sites.I am using RIPv2 for intersite routing between all offices. We plan on implementing a backup circuit at the Oxford office for resiliency. There are 2* Core 4500 Switches, Core 1 is uplinked to the Primary circuit and Core 2 will be uplinked to the Backup circuit. At the moment Core 2 learns all of its routes from Core 1.My question is, if the Primary circuit goes down, how do we get the Routing on the Core Switches to than point out of the backup circuit?

suppose i have one switch and many RIPv2 routers connected to it.ripv2 destination address is 224.0.0.9 that is mapped to 0100:5e00:0009 normally the switch will send this frame to all ethernet ports
is there a way to take benefit from the multicast address so that the frame will be sent only to the RIP routers.i know it is possible to map staticlly the mac address to some ports but is there any dynamic solution also?

I am having a problem reaching a soho linksys e1000 router through a second hop cisco 2900 router. Here is a brief topology of the network: I am using OSPF area 100 for all networks except for
192.168.2.0 on R1 to E1000 which is RIPv2
R1 directly connects to R2 with a point-to-point serial on network 192.168.12.0 /30 with ip 192.168.1.13
R1 directly connects to a a switchport using network 192.168.2.0 /24 with ip 192.168.1.75
R3 directly connects to a switchport using network 192.168.1.128.0 /25 with ip 192.168.1.129
R3 directly connects to a different cisco router using ethernet on network 192.168.1.0 with ip 192.168.1.1
E1000 directly connects to a switchport using network 192.168.2.0 /24 with ip 192.168.2.1
The switch has a vlan ip on 192.168.1.128 /25?I can ping from R1 to E1000?I can ping from R3 to R1 192.168.2.75? I can't ping from R3 to E1000 192.168.2.1?show ip route on R2 indicates that network 192.168.2.0 is reachable via the serial connection on 192.168.1.12?I have redistributed rip to ospf area 100 and OSPF to RIP on R1?I am wondering why R1 can reach E1000 on network 192.168.2.0, and why R3 can reach R1s 192.168.2.0 newtork, but R3 can't reach the E1000.There is an R2 router than can reach R1 and also cannot reach E1000, but I assume it's for the same reasons R3 can't, so I've omitted the remainder of that topology for this question.

I'm having a few problems at the moment with a zone based firewall setup. The more I looked into the problems the more I question whether I need the ZBF or not.My network is pretty simple. 1 Internet connection and 1 LAN interface and a few site to site vpns to the router. So what do people think to having this kind of set up and not using a ZBF?

I have a spare ASA5505 w/Base License that we want to use as the router/firewall between our wi-fi network and our secondary internet connection. Currently we have a NetGear box as the router there and it is on its last legs. In order for the ASA w/Base license to be able to issue over 150 IP address via DHCP which license do I need to purchase for it.

I currently have a vlan/SVI on my 6506 for the WiSM service-port. The WiSM has an address on the same subnet. To manage the WiSM, I either https to the Management interface address or use 'session slot X proc Y' from the the 6506. Since I am essentially only using two addresses from a subnet for this service-port I would like to free up the subnet. Can I keep my current functionality by having a vlan only (with the wism service-vlan XX command) with no SVI?

I have provided a service tag below. A friend has an old Latitude C600 running Windows XP Pro that was formatted and we are trying to get it to pick up a wireless router. It has the following in it...
1. mini card... 3com 3C556 (CN-06f553-48361) 2. 3Com Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller 3C920 (3C905C-TX)
Service Tag:
Windows automatically found and installed drivers for both devices after the format. We even tried drivers from Dell. We can get a hard wired connection, but nothing wireless. We get TWO Local area connections showing up in the systray... Local Area Connection 3 and 4. The card is detected in the bios. A 3Com diagnostics program (3Com NIC Doctor) from the Dell site says the NIC is ok, but the "Run Network Test" fails... that is obvious if we can't get a wireless connection. So why then doesn't it pick up any router? If the drivers for it are installed and it's recognized in hardware shouldn't it automatically pick up a router? This has to be something really simple that we are not thinking about.

I am setting up an ASA5515 to replace an existing Linux based firewall. Unfortunately the ASA5515 does not support source based routing.I have two internet connections currently used for specific connections - the second connection is NOT a failover connection.I have the default route to Internet connection 1.I want to route smtp out the second Internet connection. The routers connecting to the internet are a 877 and an 878The options I am considering is a layer 3 switch between the firewall and the routers to enable source based routing or replacing the 2 routers with a single router and the appropriate wic interfaces.

We have deployed a few ASA 5585 SSP40 in our data centers to seperate different customer/security zones connected with 10Gig interfaces. Currently we have a dedicated log server attached to each ASA connected with a p2p 10Gig interface. While detailed log information is considered important I somehow have the gut feeling all this high end equipment and bandwidth is used a little too wasteful. I have little experience with these big firewalls and I have not yet seen the equipment in an attack situation, however I doubt a firewall could ever generate 10gig of log data, while doing the primary fire walling job at the same time. Looking at the typical packet size of a syslog message I don't even believe a 1 gig link could ever be saturated with pure syslog messages.

I run a small motel and having trouble with Wifi signal reaching the 2nd floor rooms sufficiently. I have heard of the terminology and it's quite daunting... you have wifi booster, access point, range expanders, repeaters, bridges...etc. Do I need one of booster/expanders/repeaters for each floor? I just replaced a hard drive on my computer, installed win7, hooked up the linksys according to the guide but it is not recognizing anything attached. My devices indicates an unknown ethernet controller. I have installed no drivers for anything, no drivers were listed as needed for wcg200.
The same linksys is hooked up to a second computer (which I am posting from) so I am assuming it works fine. Also I had the thing set up on the last harddrive with win7, the only difference was the harddrive was loaded up with the OS by the computer shop. I have never done this before and wanted to try it out. I swapped ethernet cables to make sure nothing changed with the cables, but no luck.

Suppose I have a 3 member stack of 3750x switches. Members a, b and c.I have all 3 members stacked with all 3 *data* stacking cables in a daisy-chain topology. The 50 cm data stacking cable from switch a (on the very top) to switch c (on the very bottom) just barely reached.Of course, that means the 30 cm *power* stacking cable didn't reach between a & c. Right now, the power stacking cable goes from a to b, and then another cable from b to c. Leaving me with a useless extra 30 cm power stacking cable.
My question is, can switch "a" receive power from switch "c" through switch "b"? Is this just a big electrical "bus"? What if the power supply in switch "b" is removed?Just wondering if there is a need for me to get a longer power stacking cable (one of the 150 cm power stacking cables).

Our sister site had a new building and the network it was supposed to resemble the network on this site with link redundancy as far as the edge switches. After 6 months asking for the password to the equipment I finaly got it and started to plan the deployment of some phones, I got a little confused as to the layout of what had been done as CDP was not showing what I had expected.
I then used CNA to map out the site.We have 1 main server room (at the top of the picture with the two 4507 cores and a number of fixed config 1U switches)And 3 further wiring rooms at other points in the building with fixed config 1U switches.
(And a wan link to this site)In my opinion the design as it stands is significantly flawed in redundacny with multiple points of failure, and its efficiency is very poor.

Whenever I try to login to the router, it fails to recognise the username and password for usually the first 5 or 6 attempts, then recognises them on the 6th or 7th. Not eactly a massive issue, but coupled with what seems to be a very unstable connection makes me wonder if it was a good move to buy cisco.

One of my clients is using Cisco catalyst 2955 industrial switch.I am doing the configuration for them and come across one setting of FCS Error Hysterasis Threshold. I know FCS is Frame Check Sequence.
I do not understand is what is the meaning the setting of Hysteresis in term of percentage stand for what purpose? For example, the default is 10 percent. If I set the value to be lower 5% and what is the impact on that? Is this more stringent than default of 10% or less stringent than default of 10%?
