View 5 Repliestrying to get an IP address from a public wireless network. I am trying to connect to the wireless network here and I get good signal, but it says, that my access has "Limited Connectivity". I then tried to see why my laptop could not access the system and ran "ipconfig/all" in the command prompt. I pasted the results below. I don't know a ton about computers and why my computer will not get a correct IP address (it sends back that the IP address is 169.254.44.160 as opposed to a 10.xxx.xxx.x that the network should be passing out).

12 hours ago, my laptop connected to my home's wireless network, no problem. The only event between then and the next time I logged in was that the ethernet cable was unplugged from the router, to be plugged directly into the Xbox. After it was reconnected, my laptop was recieving the signal, and the other home computers connect to internet just fine, but the laptop is locked out of the network. Error message when I click Connect:"Unable to acquire an IP address while connecting to Wi-Fi. Please check your settings and contact the system administrator if the problem persists."I have already tried restarting the computer, the modem, and the router. I do not want to reset the modem to factory settings.

We have some remote support software which the helpdesk use to connect to PC's remotley and torubleshoot.
I cannot connect to this software using the assigned IP address of the client even though it works fine with our old Nortel VPN.
If I hit the IP address the packet gets all the way to the ASA and seems to disappear.
I have setup an IP v4 access list on the connection profile which allows any/any access b ut still no joy.
connecting a VPN with a dynamic IP address (its a Draytek 2700)We have a customer who has a PIX515E on the central site .Than there are more 2 sites where he installed 2 Draytek 2700 ,and contracted 2 fixes IP addresses for them. These are working fine and always did.In another site they are doing building renewals ,só they will not have ADSL for about 2 month, and they connected a 3G Internet access wich is connected to a Draytek 2710 ,internet wich is working fine, but doesnt have a fixed ip address.
I had search a lot in Cisco support pages, but i can´t find this solution, cause the examples are only to 1 dynamic peer ,not mixed(multiple fixed ip addresses + 1 or more dynamic)The PIX also needs to receive VPN connections from remote users who connect via Cisco VPN client(is working fine too) [code] I know now that when a communication starts from that dynamic peer to the PIX ,PIX doesnt know in wich group he should assign it.So the communication stops.i tried to create a group-policy...but i dont know how to associate it with the tunnel group.I also know that we can just associate 1 crypto map to each interface.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a high speed wireless DSL router from my ISP (Telus). I use one port off the router to connect directly to my desktop computer. Another port is connected to a switch to which ethernet cables to three other rooms are connected. My problem is that when I connect my Bell PVR (9242) to the 'switched' ethernet cable, I'm apparently not able to get a dynamic ip address, which the Bell unit requires, and can't connect to the network.can I connect another router, in place of the switch, to deliver dynamic IP addresses to whatever I connect to the ports in the other rooms in my house?

Now we have to connect an AP (local) in a remote office, connected to the WLC by a VPN Tunnel. The problem is that the AP in the remote office uses the NAT Address to connect to the WLC, so the traffic goes over the Internet, not trough the VPN Tunnel. On the controller I have the following setting:
AP Discovery - NAT IP Only ................. Disabled
On the AP:
AP Link Latency.................................. Disabled
How to force the AP to use the internal IP Address of the WLC?
I'm having a few problems at the moment with a zone based firewall setup. The more I looked into the problems the more I question whether I need the ZBF or not.My network is pretty simple. 1 Internet connection and 1 LAN interface and a few site to site vpns to the router. So what do people think to having this kind of set up and not using a ZBF?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have provided a service tag below. A friend has an old Latitude C600 running Windows XP Pro that was formatted and we are trying to get it to pick up a wireless router. It has the following in it...
1. mini card... 3com 3C556 (CN-06f553-48361) 2. 3Com Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller 3C920 (3C905C-TX)
Service Tag:
Windows automatically found and installed drivers for both devices after the format. We even tried drivers from Dell. We can get a hard wired connection, but nothing wireless. We get TWO Local area connections showing up in the systray... Local Area Connection 3 and 4. The card is detected in the bios. A 3Com diagnostics program (3Com NIC Doctor) from the Dell site says the NIC is ok, but the "Run Network Test" fails... that is obvious if we can't get a wireless connection. So why then doesn't it pick up any router? If the drivers for it are installed and it's recognized in hardware shouldn't it automatically pick up a router? This has to be something really simple that we are not thinking about.
I have a E2500 router and 3 WAP610N access points. Users are having a difficult time connecting to the AP's. The client device just sits there trying to obtain an IP and then times out. If they get within range of the actual wireless router, then connect instantly. Is there a setting to increase that will allow longer time trying to obtain an IP?
I am using the same SSID for roaming, but am using different channels (1, 6, 11) for the overlap. See diagram below. Not sure if this has some impact?
I run a small motel and having trouble with Wifi signal reaching the 2nd floor rooms sufficiently. I have heard of the terminology and it's quite daunting... you have wifi booster, access point, range expanders, repeaters, bridges...etc. Do I need one of booster/expanders/repeaters for each floor? The property is a L shape, the router is in the office on the short side.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI just replaced a hard drive on my computer, installed win7, hooked up the linksys according to the guide but it is not recognizing anything attached. My devices indicates an unknown ethernet controller. I have installed no drivers for anything, no drivers were listed as needed for wcg200.
The same linksys is hooked up to a second computer (which I am posting from) so I am assuming it works fine. Also I had the thing set up on the last harddrive with win7, the only difference was the harddrive was loaded up with the OS by the computer shop. I have never done this before and wanted to try it out. I swapped ethernet cables to make sure nothing changed with the cables, but no luck.
I currently have a vlan/SVI on my 6506 for the WiSM service-port. The WiSM has an address on the same subnet. To manage the WiSM, I either https to the Management interface address or use 'session slot X proc Y' from the the 6506. Since I am essentially only using two addresses from a subnet for this service-port I would like to free up the subnet. Can I keep my current functionality by having a vlan only (with the wism service-vlan XX command) with no SVI?

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have deployed a few ASA 5585 SSP40 in our data centers to seperate different customer/security zones connected with 10Gig interfaces. Currently we have a dedicated log server attached to each ASA connected with a p2p 10Gig interface. While detailed log information is considered important I somehow have the gut feeling all this high end equipment and bandwidth is used a little too wasteful. I have little experience with these big firewalls and I have not yet seen the equipment in an attack situation, however I doubt a firewall could ever generate 10gig of log data, while doing the primary fire walling job at the same time. Looking at the typical packet size of a syslog message I don't even believe a 1 gig link could ever be saturated with pure syslog messages.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSuppose I have a 3 member stack of 3750x switches. Members a, b and c.I have all 3 members stacked with all 3 *data* stacking cables in a daisy-chain topology. The 50 cm data stacking cable from switch a (on the very top) to switch c (on the very bottom) just barely reached.Of course, that means the 30 cm *power* stacking cable didn't reach between a & c. Right now, the power stacking cable goes from a to b, and then another cable from b to c. Leaving me with a useless extra 30 cm power stacking cable.
My question is, can switch "a" receive power from switch "c" through switch "b"? Is this just a big electrical "bus"? What if the power supply in switch "b" is removed?Just wondering if there is a need for me to get a longer power stacking cable (one of the 150 cm power stacking cables).
