Cisco :: WLC 2106 / Automated WLAN Shutdown
Dec 13, 2009
we operate a number of 2106 WLC's some of which are in training centres, we have been requested by one customer that the SSID used for the users in the training rooms is only enabled between the hours of 9am - 6pm Monday to Friday.
As such im trying to find an automated method of disabling said WLAN automatically outside of these hours including weekends.
Im aware that the commands:
config wlan disable "WLAN ID"
config wlan enable "WLAN ID"
Can be used to perform the required function but getting them to trigger at the appropriate time is proving more of a challenge.

Have a setup for Cisco LMS3.2.1 which is a recent upgrade, also RME 4.3.2 and CM 5.2.2. Is it possible for the DFM to generate alerts such as email notification to user defined group (subnet grouped). These alerts should be critical in in nature.

migrating from LMS 3.0.1 to 4.0.1 it was relatively simple but we had a simple configuration which does'nt run on our new Ciscoworks version:
1) Routers sends SYSLOGS to Ciscoworks server.
2) Our ..CSCOpxlogsyslog.log file updates correctly and saves syslog data coming from various devices.
3) The same automated action we had on LMS 3.0.1 (it was a trivial ALL FACILITIES *-*-*-*-* send email to) does not work on LMS 4.0.1

we want to have full wireless coverage in a big warehouse (120mx90m) and 15 meter Height that will be having big racks (14 meters height) and 2 meter between the racks and the rack itself is 1.5 meter (2 rack back to back), now we will be having scanners and we need to make sure the wireless is covering everywhere.Where is the best place to put the AP, Ceiling? How Many APs per row ? each row will be around 60 meters length.
Is AP 1252 a good choice? The scanners are a/b/g.What i'm thinking of is to put 1 AP per row mounted on the ceiling and antennas facing down because it is hard to mount the APs between the rack because of the automated racking system.

I would like to setup a 2504 to have one Guest WLAN and one Staff WLAN with a controller port for each WLAN connected to different devices.
I would prefer to connect the WLC Guest port to an ASA 5510 and the WLC Staff port to an internal 2960S switch. Will this work? I haven't setup a 2500 series controller previously.

Even though I've been working on Cisco way too long I've never worked with the 871 before, and I've never inherited a system with so many unused commands in the config. Apparently there have been a lot of changes over the years and a lot of commands left behind. And sure I'd like to clean it all up and start over, but I really just need it working right now.
There are a total of 4 sites, HQ and remotes1-3. HQ has an ASA, remotes the 871s, there are VPN tunnels between each 871 and the ASA and these are working fine.
Remote1 also has tunnels to Remote2 and Remote3, and these work.
Remote2 has the working tunnels to HQ and Remote1, but can't establish a tunnel to Remote3.
Remote3 has working tunnels to Remote1 and HQ, but not Remote2 (obviously)
They are all running the same IOS 12.4(20)T3 and have virtually identical configurations. A sho cryto sess on Remote2 and 3 look like this, with an obvious IKE problem;
Interface: FastEthernet4
Session status: UP-ACTIVE
Peer: xxx.xxx.xxx.x30 port 500
[code]......
The only differences in the configs are the IP and the self-signed keys might have different modulus. This is the config for Remote3, I've tried some different combinations of putting in static routes and not, so don't assume what's here is what's been tried. And I've already gone over the pre- shared keys and ACLs a hundred times. My gone is to just get it working, not make it clean. Note: int Tunnel1 is shutdown and not in use.
version 12.4
no service pad
service tcp-keepalives-in
service tcp-keepalives-out
[code].......

I run cmd, as an Administrator, After typing shutdown -i the Remote Shutdown Dialog Window pops up,Giving me a lot of posibilities. Though, in the "computers" section there's nothing. Though the main house computer is connected to the same network as the laptop I am at. I wondered why isn't the computer there? So I typed net view in cmd , and only the laptop's name was there. Meaning? The two computers are connected to the same network, thats for sure, the ip's last number in the main pc is 1 and in the laptop is 2. But this is which port each computer is using right?

I was handed a Cisco 2106 WLC and 6 AIR-LAP1131AG-A-K9 acess points a few days ago and was told to get it working. My problem is i have never worked with cisco products, so i have been stumbling setting this up. Here is what I did get working Web interface into the 2106 WLC I flashed the 2106 from version 4.x to 7.0.116.0 I get green connected lights on numbers where AP are plugged in I configured the ap-manager area to settings of
Port Number=6
Vlan Identifier=0
IP Address=10.0.0.254
Netmask=255.255.248.0
Gateway=10.0.0.1
Primary DHCP Server=10.0.0.18
[code]....
I have logged into the console port on both the WLC and AP but i do not understand how to see reports or enable reports on either device to see what is wrong. I read that the AP can be set to lightweight or anon mode but i do not know how to check to see what mode they are currently in.

From PEC training - Cisco says to perform a proper ASR 1004 shutdown by executing 'reload' , then wait for bootstrap message to appear, then [before commencement of unpacking of the IOS] turn off the power switch. IS THIS ACCURATE. Anyone have any doc related to the recommended POWER DOWN process on the ASR 1004. We have a UPS cutover coming up and I want to be ready to power down and restart the new ASR 1004s we have - properly.

I have a problem with pinging APs that are connected to WLC 2106. We have a TRUNK with VLAN50, VLAN51 and VLAN71 (all tagged) connected to our WLC 2106. VLAN50 is our management network. We have configured bot management and AP-management interfaces on WLC with IP addresses from our management network and we have set both to VLAN 50. We have also configured static IP addresses on every AP, connected to WLC.
The problem is we cannot ping APs. This means that APs can’t connect to any other device on the management network and we would like to use RADIUS for WiFi client authentication.
How can we solve this problem? I guess if we configure VLAN50 as native untagged VLAN in our TRUN, this would work? Is there any way to configure this without using native VLAN?
We also have problem with IPv6 connectivity. We have configured DHCP and we are using 1.1.1.1 DHCP proxy and it works great for IPv4, but how can we configure DHCP proxy for IPv6 addresses? Our WiFi clients need to get also IPv6 addresses. I have enabled “IPv6 enabled” option on the WLC.

I've just installed a 2106 Controller at a remote site. The Controller is seen by the WCS at the main site so, connectivity is good and I'm able to login from the main site. I've configured the DHCP server which is at the Main site on the AP manager interface and the Manager interface and on the WLAN of the new controller but, APs are not getting addresses.

I bought a brand new 2106 WLC and a 1142AP. After going through the standard setup, the 1142 LAP was blinking red, yellow and green. I checked the logs and found the following message; [code]
I requested the latest IOS and Boot image for the controller from the supplier but he has provided only AIR-WLC2100-K9-7-0-220-0.aes, no equivalent boot image and has insisted that it is enough to upgrade the controller.
Is the AIR-WLC2100-K9-7-0-220-0.aes compatible with the 1142 LAP? And would I be able to upgrade the controller with only the AIR- WLC2100-K9-7-0-2 20-0.aes IOS and no equivalent boot image?

I'm experiencing strange issue with my WS-C3750X-48T-S.
Model number: WS-C3750X-48T-S
System image file is "flash:/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3/c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3.bin"
This switch is situated on a remote site and on the 6th of January it was rebooted.
I still do not know the cause, but it might be power outage or smth. We are still checking. After the reboot I've noticed that one port on this cisco switch is in 'notconnect' state, while I'm pretty sure it should be 'connected'.
I've tried to shutdown the port adminstratevly and do the 'no shutdown' but this port remained in 'disable' state.
#sh run interface Gi1/0/5

I have an old 2621xm router in CCIE lab at home. Only a week ago I started having issue on 2 of them. The problem is on one of them when I go under interface configuration and I type "no shut" nothing happens. Interface stays in administratively down status and when I check running config "shutdown" is still under interface.
On the other one the same problem but only with "router rip" command. I configure my rip routing but then when I check running config there is no rip section and also RIP is not running under "show ip protocols rip".These routers are connected to 2511 AccesServer. So I thought the issue might be communication from AccessServer to these devices. I connected a console cable straight to them and still the same problem. Everything else is working on these devices.

I have bee trying to make WOL work with no luck so far. The problem is that when I shut down my laptop (connected to AC power) the NIC also shuts down. I already unchecked the box "Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power" in the power management tab in advanced NIC properties.
I noticed that when I force shutdown my laptop (press the power button for 5 seconds), the NIC stays on and WOL works, but when I perform a regular shutdown, the NIC shuts down when windows shuts down.

We recently purchased a bundle of 3 1042N AP's with a 2106 WLC. I am able to get the controller on the network and am able to manage it through the https web gui. I am now trying to add one of the AP's to the controller and am getting an infinite loop on the AP upon bootup. I tried looking up the solution but could not find a good article that pertained to the problem I was having. One thing I did notice is the time on the AP is way offset, but when I do a clock set to change it to the actual date it doesnt stick on the next reload.
Here is the output:
using ÿÿÿÿ ddr static values from serial eeprom ddr init done
Running Normal Memtest...

I hava installed a WLC 2106 with 4 1252 Aps. Some laptops has dual radio wireless card, but others has just 2.4 Ghz card.
I have one SSID with WPA2/AES and 802.11X authentication.
With the laptops with dual radio the speed is in 300 Mpbs, but when is single 2.4 radio the max speed is 70Mpbs
If i use a 1252 ap with autonomous IOS, SSID with WPA2-PSK/AES this laptops single in 2.4 works to 144 Mbps
is there a knowed issue about 802.11x in 2.4 Ghz or i need to make a different configuration to can work in 2.4 with a speed of 144 Mbps?

I got my final assignment from school, and my teacher asked me to configure 2 Access Points (1200 series) directly on a Wireless Controler (Cisco 2106). I can't ask my teacher for any questions, cause he doesn't know how to configure it also, THAT's why he's asking me to do it.I've learned a lot of things about the default static interfaces (the "management" and "ap_manager" interface), but i can't seem to fully understand how to configure it.I want to use the Internal DHCP server of the WLC. How I can get those 2 Access Points working on the WLC. I only seem to get DHCP issues.
This is what i've done:
- Leave the configuration of the "management" and the "ap_manager" default (172.16.1.30 and 172.16.1.30). Bound to port 1
- Made a new interface "AP1" with IP-Address 10.0.0.10 (/24), default gateway 10.0.0.1. Primary DHCP server: 172.167.1.30
- Made a new interface "AP2" with IP-Address 192.168.1.10 (/24), default gateway 192.168.1.1. Primary DHCP server: 172.167.1.30
- Made 2 DHCP scopes within the 192.168.1.0 and 10.0.0.0 networks.
For some reason, when i boot up both AP's, the won't get any DHCP address.
