Cisco :: 5508 / Unable To Telnet And Tftp To Controller

Jun 2, 2013

5508 controller is at the headquarters which can be normally pinged, telnetted, http'd and tftp'ed....at the remote site,  controller can be pinged and http'ed but cannot be telnetted and tftp'ed.there is a complete tracert from the remote site pc all the way to the controller.from a switch at  a remote site, the controller can be telnetted. but from a pc on the remote site (which belongs to a remote site vlan), it is unable to telnet and tftp the controller.all active components can be telnetted  from the remote site, such as the core switches and routers at the headquearters, except the controller.upgraded the controller code to 7.2.xxx in headquarters but still unable to telnet and tftp the controller from remote site.is there any more settings on the controller for telnet and tftp?what could be the problem why the controller is not available for telnet and tftp from the remote site?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 877 Reverse Telnet With No Aux Port For No Cross Contamination

Dec 21, 2011

I have a new 877 that I am using for internet traffic for 3-4 internet only devices.I also have a clean network that i want to insure no cross contamination. However I plan on rolling this out to many sites, but for management I was hoping to set up a reverse telnet to the console port from our one of my clean switches. which should allow me to keep the units seperated and allow me to manage changes etc remotely. Unfortunatly there is no Aux port on the clean switch (3560). Is there still a way to acheive this? can i configure one of the ethernet ports to connect to the console of the 877?

I'm having issue when I telnet to port 9100. I type the typical Jetdirect commands: ? / MENU yet I receive no information back from any commands I type. Even configuration commands. Typically, all this gets me is a printed page (since 9100 is also the print port) with the commands I've attempted to type. Some garbled, some not.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Unable To Ping VPN 3005 Concentrator From Telnet Session In 3750

Feb 7, 2012

The network is set up like this.

Host -----> 3750 (classic) running IPSERVICES stack ----> 3550 router -----> VPN 3005 Concentrator.

IP routing is disabled on the 3750 (it's acting solely as a switch) IP routing is enabled with an EIGRP process running on the 3550 router that has the network for the 3005 broadcasting.

I can ping the vpn 3005 concentrator from a telnet session in the 3550 but not from the 3750.I can ping between the 3750 and the 3550 vlan management interfaces.  Visually speaking it's like this

3750 ------> 3550  [Success!!!!]
3550 ------> VPN 3005 Concentrator [Success!!!!]
3750 ------> 3550 --xxxx--> VPN 3005 Concentrator [Timeout....]

I know this because I tracerout to the 3005 from the 3750 and it resolved the default gateway configured for the 3550 properly but then started timing out.

The 3750 is trunked to the 3550.

3750 is vtp client mode
3550 is vtp server mode

I'm wondering if there's a layer 2 issue involved here as it is a VTP domain and maybe it's not returning properly.

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - AP Unable To Get IP Address After WLC Is Rebooted

Aug 20, 2012

I had configured a Cisco 5508 series WLC. The APs used are Cisco 3502 LAP. The APs are configured to use DHCP for this ip addresses.

We had configured the DHCP server on the 2 Windows AD server previously and the APs were not able to get an IP address when the WLC was rebooted. To isolate the cause, we configured the DHCP server on a cisco 6500 switch. When we reboot the WLC, most of the APs are not able to grab an IP address. We had to remove and reconfigure the DHCP pool on the cisco 6500 for the APs to capture the IP addresses.

My colleague had feedback that they gotten a message that the DHCP pool had been used up. We tried to do a "show ip DHCP pool" but the switch did not recognise the command. IOS version used is Version 12.2(50r)SYS2.

We had a problem with the wireless client getting ip addresses from the windows DHCP server previously but problem was resolved after we disabled the DHCP proxy on the WLC.

What we are curious is why was the DHCP pool fully used on the Cisco switch and how could we check the number of addresses used other than running "show ip dhcp binding" and doing a count of the IP addresses?

Also why did we have to disable the DHCP proxy on the cisco WLC for the wireless clients to be able to get an IP address from the windows DHCP server?

We seem to be facing a number of problems with the DHCP functions for the wireless setup.

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - Unable To Migrate AP's From One Controller To Another

Aug 20, 2012

I have a 5508 at a remote site and a 5508 at my main campus.  I was doing some work on the remote site's controller, so I changed option 43 on our DNS/DHCP system, then applied an LWAPP template from NCS to the AP's to migrate them to the controller at my main campus (so users could still utilize the wireless at the remote site).  They all moved over to the temporary (main campus) controller without an issue.

When I was ready to migrate the AP's back to their local (remote site) controller - I changed option 43 for each sub net that contained AP's @ the remote site to point back to their local controller's management IP address, pushed an LWAPP template again (pointing it to the local controller obviously) and apply template/reboot AP.

The AP reboots, disassociates from the main campus (temporary) controller, but when it comes back up a few minutes later - it associates BACK to the main campus controller it was on instead of to the remote site/local controller like option 43, the LWAAP template (and my frustrated screams) are now telling it to. I'm certain I'm just missing something.

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 - Client Unable To Stay Connected

Jun 26, 2012

Background: Wireless credit card machines can't stay connected to the 5508 controller 7.0.116 / 1142 ap wireless system. MAC address of one of the wireless hosts is 00:12:0e:ec:ce:97. AP servicing them is d4:a0:2a:99:34:60. Hosts are able to connect to the network after a reboot and stay connected for random periods of time but then don't come back unless you manually reload them. I have 3 in total in the same room services by the same ap.

I have the output of debug client 00:12:0e:ec:ce:97. Output showed 802.1x 'timeoutEvt' Timer expired for station 00:12:0e:ec:ce:97 so I increased the value to 4000ms on the controller but am still having the issue.

Note that the output below is the state the client stays in after receiving the timeout (802.1x 'timeoutEvt') showing subsequent attampts. The only way to get them back on is a reload of the credit card machine.

In addition to the 4 that will not connect all the others will prompt twice for network authentication.Now, I have about 10 other laptops that are not the HP model and all connect without issue and without dual propt. I don't think this is a wireless network issue but could be some type of issue with this model of laptop.

Cisco Wireless :: Backup Port Of WLC 5508 MGMT Interface

Sep 8, 2012

Since WLC5508 MGMT interface is configured a AP-Mgr at the same time, can I set a Backup Port to WLC5508 MGMT interface? Refer to WLC configuration Guide:

In the Backup Port text box, enter the number of the backup port assigned to the management interface. If the primary port for the management interface fails, the interface automatically moves to the backup port.

Note Do not define a backup port for an AP-manager interface. Port redundancy is not supported for AP-manager interfaces. If the AP-manager interface fails, all of the access points connected to the controller through that interface are evenly distributed among the other configured AP-manager interfaces

if I need to configure the backup port for MGMT interface, i need to remove the AP-manager on MGMT interface and create a network dynamic interface for AP-Manager ?

Cisco Wireless :: 5508 / WLC Port Channel Host Flapping

Oct 9, 2011

I have setup LAG for one of our 5508 controllers and have connected 4 of the 8 ethernet ports to a 4507 switch. After configuring 2 port channels on the switch we are receiving a host flapping error between the port channels and it seems to be causing a serious slowdown on the switch. When I shutdown one of the port channels the error goes away and traffic returns to normal. I have the same configuration at other locations with the only difference being the switches used are 3750G-12S and I do not see the host flapping error. It appears to only be a problem with modular switches.

One other thing of note: I read a Cisco white paper on LAG and it suggested creating the port channels over 2 different modules. For example, put ports G4/24 and G5/24 in port channel 1 and G4/25 and G5/25 in port channel 2. I tried this but I still got the host flapping error.
