AP541N wireless AP, what POE injector are you supposed to use?The web site states any enterprise class af POE injector will do, but the AP1131 POE injector does not work with the AP541N.
View 5 RepliesI bought a Netgear N600 wireless adapter (WNDA3100).I used wired before mostly without problems but was annoyed by the cables.My router is a Netgear WNDR3300 and I never had problems with it.The problem is that sometimes my wireless adapter just stops working and drops the connection.I use it since a few days, and it already happened several times.It happened especially when I was streaming videos to my PS3 (my PS3 is also wireless). It also happened while I was watching Youtube videos. When this happens, I need to unplug the adapter and plug it again. Sometimes, I need to restart the whole computer for my adapter to work again.Is this normal with USB wireless adapters? This is unacceptable to me.I want a stable connection.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are looking at purchasing two of the WAP4410n Access Points to add wireless in one building, and possibly replace Wireless G in another. In our building already configured, we have POEs set up and this has worked to centralize everything that has to be monitored. We would like to do the something with the WAP4410n. With the access points we already have, they are Pre POE so there was only one device that would work. With These they are standard POE, Does that mean I can use any POE Injector that is using this standard?
Also, are problems that first existed these access points being worked out or been fixed? I want these to be minimal attention required since I am the IT person here and I don't work in this building, I work in the other building which is walking distance but I do want to avoid problems if possible.
I need a power Injector compatible for WAP 4410N.

I would prefer to use only the injector at the switch if the AP can accept the 48 VDC at the ethernet port.

Some of our APs might or might not be within the 100m limit from the switches, so we'll be running them as repeaters instead. Right now, we are planning on buying power injectors for everything, but I can't seem to find an answer to this question:
If I'm running an AP as a repeater (no ethernet running back to a switch), can it still receive power from a power injector and a short ethernet run between the injector and the AP? Or will I need to use a power adapter?

i noticed that the 1242AG does not bring up the Radios, when there is a Power Injector connected.I see in the Logs of the AP:

The Module in the 6500 is a WS-X6348-RJ-45 The Option "Power Injector installed" on the WLC is also enabled, with the MAC Address from the Switchport, but no change.When i disable CDP on the mentioned Switch Port and reload the AP, it comes up and runs fine.
Contrary to the information contained in the link above, these two parts do not play well together. I purchased both and plugged them in and no go. It doesn't even light anything on the WAP. It worked fine when it was on its own 12V DC adapter but not plugged into this injector. What I don't understand is why Cisco doesn't just make a Universal power injector that is essentially a 1 port switch and is 802.3af or 802.3at compatible. Its maddening. It looks like I'm going to have to get an SD208P and waste 6 ports just to get one with the correct POE for the WAP4410.

I have the settings configured correctly in IOS, but the AP takes about 7 minutes to come on (illuminate LED status lights) once the Ethernet cable is connected. Is this 7 minute power-on delay normal when using POE? I am used to the instanteous "on" that usually comes with Cisco products being connected directly to the AC adapter.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep getting alerts from our WCS stating that our 1252s are drawing low power. Now I am aware that they require enhanced PoE (up to 20W) but as we only have standard PoE in that building we purchased the 1252 series power injectors to go with them.
However, even with the correct power injectors the WCS still reports the draws low power error.
Is this a bug? Running WCS 7.0.172 at the moment.
Forgot to say we are using the PWR-INJ4 and the injector status is enabled and you see the injector MAC address when you drill in to the AP status.
I bought 2 WAP4410N wireless routers but it did not come with a PoE injector. We do not have a PoE capable switch. I have a couple of 3COM PoE injectors but am concerned about differing PoE standards could cause the 3Com PoE injector to damage the WAP4410N.
I cannot find a PoE injector on the Cisco website. What is the Cisco part number for a PoE injector for the Cisco WAP4410N or provide assurances about the 3COM PoE that I have for the 3COM 3CRWER100-75 access points?
I just installed a brand new AP541N-A-K9 (running AP541N-K9-2.0(1) software) and cannot seem to add a SSID. I've tried both from CCA and directly from the Web interface (Wireless:Wireless Network Setup menu). The Add Another button doesn't seem to do anything. I've even tried multiple browser versions.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 2 AP541N access points. Have been working well for a couple of years. Later last year they just dissapeard from CCA one day. COundt access them but they were still delivering 'wireless' so to speak I have recently put them back to defaults to try and get them back in to CCA. i had one, but not the other. They would work fine via GUI/web access.Then i updated them to 2.0.4 (both images) and since doing that i have no access to either of them via any form.

I set this to "Enabled", the problem is I only entered 1 IP address, and that IP address is the SAME IP as the AP's own internal interface. I was not thinking and entered that IP out of habit when I meant to enter my workstation's IP. The FW does not have a safeguard against this.
So, as you can see, this is a big problem, because now I have completely cut off all access (That I can think of) to the router. I can never access the AP as that IP because if I set my workstation to that IP, 1) There will be an address conflict, 2) My computer won't route traffic to the AP out its NIC because it recognizes that IP as itself.
As I posted about in the other AP541N thread about degraded performance, mine did a strange client disconnect last week. It dropped all authenticated clients, but they all thought they were still connected. A quick disable/enable of the wireless card on the laptop would get the computer back on the AP.
This same thing happened again today.

we have two AP541n APs that were clustered togehter. They are powered using PoE. The other day I discovered one of them wasn't working properly. I couldn't log into it from the web interface so I unplugged it and plugged it back in from the PoE switch. That didn't work. Since then I have taken it off the network and have tried to reset it and I still can't access it. I've tried connecting to it from the default IP, which according to the admin guide is 192.168.10.10, and that doesn't work. I have tried using Telnet and SSH to connect to it using the default IP and the static IP we had set for it. I have set up a little linksys router and plugged the AP and a laptop into it in hopes it might get DHCP, but that hasn't worked either. I have also noticed the WLAN 2.4G and WLAN 5G lights are not coming on. The PWR, SPEED, and LAN lights all come on. The DIAG light comes on when it's furst plugged in and then turns off. Right now it is not plugged into PoE so that light is off too. We had both APs plugged into an ESW-520 that was plugged into a UC560 which had recently been updated to the latest firmware: 8.6.1. The short story is I don't have any connectivity to my AP541n, even after being reset. No wireless, no Web GUI, no ping, nothing. Has this thing become a large paperweight?

Is there any way to configure WPA2-PSK on an AP541 to AP541 bridge? Unfortunately, this is a must have for our client. If not, what would allow for this with an external antenna port?

View 22 Replies View RelatedI have 2 AP541N's set up using a WDS bridge, broadcasting a single SSID. I am using WPA-PSK for the bridge and WPA/ WPA2 and CCMP (AES) on the SSID. I only have around 75 (Mac, PC, iPad, iPhone and Android) devices that use wireless. Some are laptops that roam around from AP to AP, and are using LAN when they are not roaming. I have increased the roaming agressiveness on PC clients and this doesn't seem to have resolved the weak connection. At most, I have 50 clients trying to access the wireless at one time. My problem is that they keep on dropping the connections and have real problems reconnecting once it's dropped. After 4 or 5 tries, they may or not be able to reconnect.
View 1 Replies View Relatedwhen moving throughout our building my laptop will not switch between AP’s unless it loses its connection with its existing AP then it will see the other AP that is closer and connect to it.
For example, I start at one end of the building where it connects to AP#1 at 270Mbps, if I then slowly go to another section of the building, the speed will drop all the way down to 24Mbps, but it will not switch over to AP#2 unless I turn off AP#1 then the laptop instantly switches to AP#2 at 160Mbps. Again the same behavior if I start walking back the other direction. The laptop will not disconnect from AP#2 until the signal is lost.
With my 2.4GHz wireless 802.11g AP’s (WAP200) I can roam around the building and the laptop will happily jump between AP’s always staying with the faster of the two available.
Settings are all pretty basic.
Mode is set to 5GHz 802.11n Channel is set to AutoA single SSID is running WPA Personal using wpa2, CCMP (AES)Channel is set to AutoChannel Bandwidth is set to 40MHzClustering is enabled and the AP’s see each other just fine.

Which Cisco AP boxes are compatible to act as repeater on a AP541n?
We are considering order the AP541N for our network. A few questions...
1). Are there multiple models of the AP541N? or just one cisco part number?
2). I am assuming the basic antenna comes with it. If this is something that I need to buy seperate.
3). Are there part numbers for the POE injector? Need to know part numbers on the AP541N and the poe injectors?
4). We would buy a couple of these and run them in cluster mode. My understanding is that I won't need a controller. Do I need to buy a certain model to use the clustering or is that available on all the AP541N?
5). Can I have this talk to active directory to authenticate users? Is that tough to do? Do I need install some kind of agent on a domain controller? I have configured the ASA to use Active Directory for authentications. Should it be any more difficult that that?
I have setup a few other Cisco APs before and am generally familair with wireless. But, I am not a "wireless expert" and don't have any experience with this particular product.
I recently attempted to update my access points Software from AP541N-K9_1.8(0) to AP541N-K9_1.9(2). As soon as the update and reboot were complete I could no longer connect to the wireless network using my iphone. I switched back to the secondary 1.8 software and could immediately reconnect my iphone to the network. Upgrading to 1.9(2) changes a setting or is flawed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was looking for some clarification on the capabilities of these devices to allow roaming of clients between AP's. Take a basic scenario of 3 AP's and a single SSID. I know the AP541N has clustering which uses the Fast Client Roaming Protocol, which basically does a quick re-connect to the new AP. Not quite as seamless as using aironet and a controller, but still pretty good.
Question 1 How does the WAP321 handle roaming? Obviously without the clustering feature you would have to configure each AP independently. But after setting them up, would it support roaming in a similiar way to the AP541N??
Question 2 Would running three standalone Aironet 1141's operate any differently in terms of roaming?
In summary I like the roaming capability of the AP541N but hate the large clunky form factor. I need something that can be mounted in an office environment (ceilings) that will handle easy client roaming. A short disconnect isn't a concern as long as it reconnects on it's own. Wireless controllers are a little out of the price range for this setup.
