at the moment we are using as default the manager interface as ap-manager interface.
 
Now I have to change the IP. I would like to change that very smooth with all our locations. My question, is it possible to add a ap-manager interface with a new vlan and IP Range, so that I can move the AP's to the second interface as as soon as it is planed with the location. Sometimes in special cases we have hard coded the WLC IP oder we just need to change the DHCP option but this needs to be planed and I see problem to do that in a hard cut.

Yesterday I was in one of our client premises configuring a WLC 5508 with software 7.2, went through the initial configuration wizard with no problem whatsoever, my issue began when trying to configure a ap-manager interface.In many WLC configuration guides cisco states that for 5508 it is not required to configure an ap-manager interface because the management will suffice, but then they put a side note recommending it's configuration for best practices and better performance. OK so I saw that in an earlier version document and now they do not make the recommendation but the still use the word required and for me that's still is not a limitation. I can't create the ap manager interface because when I put the VLAN ID it says the it is being used by another interface.

I have two 5508 controllers configured with an internal dhcp scope.  The scopes on each controller are a /22.  I need to expand the scope to provide more addresses.  Is there an easy way to add a second dhcp scope without making changes to the existing scope?  If so how will the clients devices be able to access that ip address range?

I have a 5508-WLC appliance and configured multiple ap-manager interfaces to balance the join request from LAPs and the load.I went to console port from some LAPs and saw that there was that balance among multiple ap manager interfaces (Dynamic AP Management Interfaces). Then we torn down one of the ap manager interfaces and confirmed that the LAPs were moved to next ap manager interface automatically.But the question here is, how can I verify which ap-manager interface was used for a LAP from the WLC via GUI or CLI ??  or how can I see the amount of APs joined using that ap manager interface from WLC ?

Cisco Wireless :: AP-manager Interface On 2504?

I'm getting familiar with an existing, working wireless installation that uses a 2504 controller (recently upgraded to 7.3.101.0).
 
From the documentation, it looks like there should be a "AP-manager" interface by default (static).  There is not one.

According to that document, there are 4 Static interfaces.  On the one I'm working on, there are only two: "management" and "virtual."  (There are also a couple of "Dynamic" interfaces that have been set up.)From reading the documentation, it sounds like there should be an AP-manager interface, and that this would have been there by default. 
 
It also sounds like an AP-manager interface is needed:Information About the AP-Manager Interface ## A controller has one or more AP-manager interfaces, which are used for all Layer 3 communications between the controller and lightweight access points after the access points have joined the controller. The AP-manager IP address is used as the tunnel source for CAPWAP packets from the controller to the access point and as the destination for CAPWAP packets from the access point to the controller.
  
Question 1:  If I do not have an AP-Manager interface, are the APs connecting at L2?  Is there some way to tell on these controllers whether APs are connecting at L2 or at L3 using udp? 
 
Question 2:  Is it not the case that one AP-manager interface should be there by default?  (I see in the docs that more than one can be created, but in that case I expect that the additional interface(s) would show in the list as "Dynamic" and not "Static.")
 
 A bit of background: The customer network is largely one flat network now, and I'm planning on subnetting it, and routing from the closets up.  I want to make sure what may need to be changed in this wireless setup before proceeding.  (The main wireless users are also getting IP addresses on the same flat network, at this point.  That obviously will change so that they are on their own subnet.)

getting my additional IP addresses working on my ASA 5510.  I have a /29 allocation and outbound access and inbound access to my internal www server is working fine through the default outside interface.   However, I now need to setup a second IP address that maps internally to a different web server.  When I setup a new network object with automatic NAT translation to the new IP address, it does not work.  If I setup the same scenario using the outside interface, it works fine.  What is the proper way to setup additional IP address on my ASA v8.4?

I have run out of public facing IP addresses and I need more. Assuming I have been issued 1.1.1.0/24 and my new/additional range/subnet issued is 2.2.2/0/24 - Can I carry on with the same configuration on my ASA5510 and just add static NAT for new services in the 2.2.2.0/24 range.

i.e.existing config
route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 1.1.1.254 (upstream ISP)
Interface outside ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
 NAT 2.2.2.1 to 10.1.2.3

or, assume my ISP will deliver 2.2.2.1 to my outside interface (1.1.1.1.1/24) and if my NAT is in place it will get delivered to 10.1.2.3 inside.
or, put another way I dont need change my set-up as I just static route to my ISP!
 
my real public IP is a /27 can I use my broadcast address (its a legit public IP address)?

i.e 1.2.3.0/27 = 1.2.3.1 to 1.2.3.31
Outside interface = 1.2.3.1/27

Can I use 1.2.3.31 and NAT it to an internal server?

I am looking for a "no marketing babble" explanation of what exactly Cisco Prime Infrastructure does, that the built in 5508 Wifi administration console and Cisco Network Assitant does not do.I already use the "Cisco UC560 Configuration Assistant", the "Cisco Network Assistant" for our switches, and the "Wifi 5508 web admin console", and I am fine with that.At another site where I work, that is now going with Cisco Wifi, it is suggested that "Cisco Prime Infrastructure" be purchased.Is it important to me to have a "single pane of glass" view of the entire network? NO IT IS NOT.
 
 All this marketing babble about having everything converged and accessible for mobile BYOD users. Yeah, that's great, but what is Cisco Prime Infrastructure actually going to do about all the mobile wifi devices coming in to the network that MUST use a web proxy to get out of our network? Many don't deal with proxy.pac correctly or don't read it at all, unless that function is explicitly turned on, by the individual device owner, in an often hidden location in their device settings. I am mainly looking at the $3000 a year price for Prime Infrastructure and going, no way, the Cisco Network Assistant and 5508 Wifi web console that are thrown in for free with the new hardware is fine with me.

I know the WiSM 2 is like the 5500 WLC regarding the fact that you do not need to configure an ap-manager interface for CAPWAP packets because by default the managment interface acts like an ap-manager interface.
 
Any major advantages or disadvantages by letting the default action occur?

I am in the process of upgrading our wireless infrastructure from a series of APs centrally managing the infrastructure centrally with the WLC 5508 and new APs (1142). All seems to be going well, the APs see the controller and are downloading the latest information/changes and I can connect to a test network. The current issue I am having is that I cannot connect to the AP via the web interface.
 
The config for the management interface of the 5508 is:

Cisco Wireless :: WLC 5508 Management Interface Connection

I'm setting up a new 5508.  I've used the config from a 4402, have successfully connected to the Service port to manage the device, but for some reason cannot connect to the Management interface.  In this case, port 1.
 
The service port is connected to a Catalyst switch and grabbed an ip address (10.2.x.x subnet) no problem.  I can access the 5508 via https using the SP.  However, port 1 is connected to the same Catalyst switch, but on a different vlan (subnet 10.20.x.x).  Both ends show that the interfaces are up, I can ping the interface from any other host on the network, but when I try to manage the device via https I cannot connect.  We are using WCS and I cannot add the device from the WCS.  About all I can do is ping that interface.

After I've upgraded software to the v7.3 and applied AP-SSO it made imposible to access the controller's gui via Service-port. So we tried to access it by management-port, but there is some problem too. It is not working from another subnets. But default gateway on management vlan is set correctly and I even tried to turn of all acl's on switch. WLC is only accessible from the same network. But at the same time wlc is replying on ping fine.All other protocols cannot connect to the controller.

Cisco Wireless :: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 Shutting Radio Interface (WLC 5508)

I am wondering if anyone has seen this before. We have about 50 AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 access points connected to a WLC5508 running 7.4.100.0. These were all being used as autonomous APs previously and were converted when the controller was installed. About 12 of these have a lovely feature where their radio interface goes down at random. The radio is still in enable mode but the opertational status is DOWN. It seems to happen particularly when there has been a power outage and the AP rejoins the controller. All of the other 1242s are fine and never sees this problem. The APs are all on power injectors.
 
Once the radio is down, the only way I can get the to come back online is by doing the following:
 
1. Set the radio admin status to "disable" and apply

2. Turn off CDP

3. Reboot the AP Wait until the AP is back online and registered on the controller
 
4. Enable the radio admin status and CDP.
 
If I do not remove the CDP setting I cannot bring the radio back to "UP". I know we had previous issues with autonomous 1242 APs that did not like CDP being enabled. Have I perhaps got a bunch that are like that? Despite these having operated as autonomous APs they are AIR-LAP1242 from the factory.

I have 2 x 5508 Wireless Controllers, 1 mgmt port on each as standard. I noticied something different between these controllers running the same code.I can bound a physical port to the mgmt interface on one controller but not the other (both interfaces are untagged)see below, this config appears on one controller but not the other? Is this something to do with the initial setup? How can I add Phyiscal information to the other controller mgmt interface, I cannot delete the mgmt interface. I have got a wireless project with WLC  main office and have 10 sites where ap's are there and ap's getting registerd .we need 4 ssid in all branches same .

ssid guest
ssid scanner
ssid user
vlan 600 main office for scanner 192.168.1.0
in branch
vlan 600 for scanner but ip is 172.16.1.0

and bgp is running . And customer is asking me not to edit the ip range or vlan or create new vlan . but in wlc am not able to create branch network 172.16.1.0 range interface and vlan 600 as vlan 600 i already created for scanner main office 192.168.1.0 So is there a way to do that .
 
Temprarly one site i did like created vlan 610 in branch no ip . And in main office interface vlan 610 given another ip range . and i created interface in wlc . from branch i can connect the ssid and getting ip . But they dont want to create any aditional vlan or another network . Customer dont have a smartnet contract . They recently baught 2 wlc 5508 and 40 ap 1142.

Since WLC5508 MGMT interface is configured a AP-Mgr at the same time, can I set a Backup Port to WLC5508 MGMT interface? Refer to WLC configuration Guide:
 
In the Backup Port text box, enter the number of the backup port assigned to the management interface. If the primary port for the management interface fails, the interface automatically moves to the backup port.
 
Note Do not define a backup port for an AP-manager interface. Port redundancy is not supported for AP-manager interfaces. If the AP-manager interface fails, all of the access points connected to the controller through that interface are evenly distributed among the other configured AP-manager interfaces
 
if I need to configure the backup port for MGMT interface, i need to remove the AP-manager on MGMT interface and create a network dynamic interface for AP-Manager ?

Customer is running LMS 2.6.Scheduled backup was running perfect. But it is no more happening.When we checked we found that the "License Manager/ Deamon Manager is down" message pop ups.
 
We reset the casuser password, and then restarted the services. It becomes ok.But only the immediate backup is successful. Scheduled task fails for all those devices."License Manager/ Deamon Manager is down" happens quite often.

I have 2 WLCs (Cisco 5508) in my network. The primary has 16 Aironet 1261 APs connected. Secondary WLC is just staying there and no APs are associated with it. Everything works fine. I was accessing the controller via a wireless client all this time through the management interface 10.74.15.2 using https. It was working fine.But when I tried to access the primary using the wireled network, I can access the seconday but cannot access the primary. They are in the same subnet and I can ping both of them.

Cisco :: 5508 Controller Setup - Management Interface

I'm trying to verify some behaviors I'm seeing with my 5508 controller setup, I've zero experience with this hardware and clueless on the best practices. With that said... out of the box I ran through the AutoInstall process.

I gave my service port an IP address on my subnet, 10.10.8.0/24 vlan 100 and gave the management interface the ip address 10.10.30.5/24 vlan 130
 
From my host I can ping the management interace 10.10.30.5 and the interface gateway 10.10.30.1
I cannot connect to the controller via 10.10.30.5 either through the web GUI or telnet
I can connect to the controller via 10.10.8.200 both through the web interface and telnet
while connected to the service port, I can ping the management port IP but I cannot ping the 10.10.30.1 gateway.
 
We have attached two test 3502I AP's and they found the controller and pulled correct ip addresses, clients can authenticate and access network resources as well as the Internet so for the most part, things are working but it concerns me that the management interface can't ping its own gateway.

I want to split the usage of the AP so that visitors are on their own wireless connnection and VLAN.We have 2 WAP4410N APs.  One AP acts as a repeater for the another AP.They are both in 4.0.4.2 firmware.We are using WPA2 RADIUS authentication, and would like for visitors to use WPA2 PSK. Under Wireless tab, I have 1 SSID, but the other 3 available boxes for SSIDs are greyed out.When I click in them, they will not allow me to type an ID.I watched a video of how to add SSIDs and VLANs, and it looked simple enough.He just clicked in the box and was able to add more IDs.Could my current config be preventing me from adding additional SSIDs?

I recently purchased another 1142 AP to expand out our current wireless infrastructure, my question is, what exactly needs to be done for this to work so that users can roam freely and auto-connect to the closet AP with the best connection without getting disconnected?
 
I have set all the settings the exact same on the new AP to match the existing AP. (How to save the configs into a file would be great, I am not sure how to do that)... But anyhow, before I launch it, I would like to be sure I am correct so I do not bring down the existing network. Of course, the only difference between the 2 are the IP addresses. AP1 is 192.168.2.2 and AP2 is 192.168.2.3
 
All computers are using Linksys Wireless-N cards.

I would like to add an additional antenna to a 1252 LAP but I'm unsure of a few things...
 
I know this LAP currently has at least a yogi directional antenna (AIR-ANT2410Y-R) and also a ( AIR-ANT2485P-R) connected to it. The access point is in a ceiling so I cannot view the connections but according to this data sheet, { URL } each of the antennas I've specified require 3 per AP. I am only aware of 1 of each being used so not sure why 3 would be required?
 
Also on my 1252 1 side has 3, 2.4Ghz connections for antennas, TX, TX&RX, and RX. If I want to only use 1 AIR-ANT2410Y-R, would this be connected to the TX&RX port? Do all antennas support transmit and receive or are there some that only support TX and others that only support RX or is this based only how you configure the antennas? On the other side of the access point there are 3, 5Ghz antenna connections.

I have an rv220w router with one SSID and the product says I can add up to 4 additional wireless ssid ie the router is protected with wpa but we have guests that would like to connect to the internet while working in our building . I would like to add a guest SSID with wep security that I could give Clients. The problem I run into is every time I add the Guest  ssid the wireless printers that are attached to the routers' main ssid quit working. I noticed that when the rounter was orginally set up the main SSID has IP addresses from 100 to 255 allocated. Do I need to limit the IP addresses in the Main SSID to a smaller number so that the Guest SSID can use the remaining  addresses.

We have a CISCO WLAN in place with several SSIDs including one on the Voice VLAN. We need to add an additional one using CCKM due to wireless phone roaming issues. Does adding a new SSID to the WLAN cause any outage whatsoever?   We are in an environment where even a small amount down time is not acceptable.
 
We are using two 5500 controllers with hundreds of LAP1142N
