Cisco Wireless :: RV120W Firewall / Router Corrupts Data?
Jul 22, 2011
I just recently replaced an older linksys pre-N router with a RV 120W. I thought this would be a good choice as a more professional router. I installed this router last week and things seemed to be working normally for web browsing, though I was receiving more incomplete pages and broken graphics. Yesterday, I tried to watch a youtube video a friend had sent me and it would not play. I tried several other videos from youtube and other sources with the same result: stalled videos, partial played videos followed by a spinning wheel. It was late, so I figured something was going on with Comcast and went to sleep. This morning, I was trying to download Anti-virus updates. The updates failed multiple times. I then tried some videos again with the same results. I tried downloading .ZIP files from several sources, and while the file completely downloaded, each and every file was corrupted and unusable. Before I called Comcast to complain about my Internet being flaky, I unplugged the Comcast Arris TM502G device from the Cisco router and plugged it directly into my computer fully expecting the problem to persist, but the problem immediately dissapeared. The immediate evidence is that the problem lays with the Cisco Router. It appears that I can't make any changes on the Comcast device as it has a comcast public IP address and does not seem to have any web or telnet interface to change the settings.
- On the Cisco router, I disabled every non-essential service: VLAN, QOS (bandwidth profiles), IPV6, etc
- I updated the FW to the newest version the day I installed the router
- I power cycled the router
- I power cycled the comcast device
I need to resolve this issue as soon as possible, but I'm not sure what to try next, and I'm confused about my support options after trying to navigate Cicso's support pages. It offers live chat, e-mail support, etc, but everything I go into requires a contract number.

since upgrading to 8.4(1) on our ASA 5520 I've had nothing but issues with our email server not being able to send out emails (timeouts,corruption, etc) and tried everything and then it dawned on me to turn off ESMTP inspection on the ASA's.Since I've down that our Exchange server SMTP works perfectly again.Why is it that ESMTP corrupts emails so badly from exchange server? (ours is a 2010 sp1)does anyone actually use ESMTP inspection at all?

I have a sending application that it is establishing a TCPIP socket connection to a vlient that has a receiving application on another server (completely separate networks) The receiving end has a Cisco Router 1605R and has allowed my connection using this firewall rule
access-list 101 permit tcp host xx.xxx.xx.xx any eq 5600 log
(where the x are actually numbers corresponding to the senders IP address)
I can establish an outbound connection to the receiver and the connection shows up on the machine. After the connection is established I can send data and it is received by the receiving application (I observed this using a socket test application, data actually gets through the firewall) However I need to send an acknowledgment back on the same session to the sender. This cannot be transmitted and shortly after I try sending the connection is closed with error 10060.

I have a problem with firewall rules. If I set some rules for open communication and some for closed, so I cannot reorder from the end to begin.
Last rules are at the end of all. So I can only reorder in one pages.(I have about 33 rules = 3 pages of rules)

i run a web server out of my home hosting a website that can get several hundred people visiting simultaneously. im currently attempting to upgrade my DD-WRT flashed WRT54G V2 router with a cisco rv120w in order to sustain more simultaneous connections (existing router locks up after a few hundred). due to the amount of spam i get on my forum, particularly from IPs originating from asia pacific networks, i block all access from those IPs utilizing the IP address and CIDR. the rv120w has starting IP and ending IP to apply a rule to, but id like to block using my existing addresses from asia pacific networks with their applicable CIDR.

We have just installed a Cisco RV120W behind a third party firewall. All works correctly now, but we are struggling to get the Quick VPN clients connected. I have enabled port forwarding for PPTP & L2TP over IPSEC on the third party router, but still cannot connect (the RV120W was previously used as a primary router & worked perfectly). What ports do I need to open on the third party router to get this to work correctly?

I want to know if it is possible to put the cisco small business router rv120w into bridge mode so that I can connect it to a linksys e2500 access point. Is this even possible or am I wasting my time?I have 4 devices connected to the cisco router that I want to be able to bridge to the linksys e2500 which has the internet connection.

My company has a peer to peer network of 10 personal computers without a server. Operating systems from Windows XP to Vista. I've recently installed a Cisco RV120W Wireless-N VPN Firewall. It's configured in DHCP Server Mode with printers/copiers that have static IPs below the DHCP range.
I'm having a problem with certain stations being used for personal networking, shopping, etc. during business hours. Consequently I would like to limit internet access on these stations. However, some internet access is required because of online database software that's an integral part of our business. I've been reading in the Administration Guide about URL Blocking. Would it be possible to give static IPs to certain stations and then limit their internet access to 1 or 2 specific websites?
FYI, I've read about the Trusted Domains and Blocked Keywords but cannot quite understand how to parley this into the solution I need.

I am currently having issues with connecting to the ethernet through my router. I can confirm this is not a software problem becasue I have tried this on mulitple PCs and I get the same problem. Today I tried connecting my pc to the modem via ethernet and it connected without a problem at all. The router i am currently using is a cisco RV120W and is connected to the modem via the WAN port, -not sure if that has anything to do with it. Things that I have already tried is system restore on the router, unplugging everthing for 1 minute and pluging itin, flushdns and everthing else IP related on CMD. Also I should add my modem is on router mode and my router's network is seprate from the modem, also wireless is workng fine, and I have tried relpacing all ethernet cables to confirm the cables arn't broken. The IP address I recieve on devices on the ethernet is 169.254.x.)

I have two box cisco asa 5550 in multiple context mode and failover.
My network topology is:
Outside Network
•
•
•
DMZ2 Network • • • • (CISCO ASA 5550) • • • • DMZ1 Network
•
•
•
Inside Netowork
My interface "Inside Network" is full(I think).I can't diagnose this, based on command "sh interface gigabitEthernet"
109042974565 packets input, 100691006385765 bytes
94097614769 packets output, 59002295942465 bytes
999339444 packets dropped
My interface is 1GB, based on the above command, it is full?If interface is full, i have a problem! All the ports on asa firewall are using, how do resolve this? I can compress all data on this interface with class maps and policy maps?

I have a question regarding firewall configurations. Is it possible to have two interfaces ( for two internet service providers) one for voice and one for data. Can I have two Outside Interfaces that one will apply to a pppoe client group and the other will apply to a static IP? Is this possible and if so What would be the steps on applying this connection? Also to note I have a point to point connection already established for the pppoe. I also have another point to point connection for data, but however I do not know how to apply this to the firewall.

We are planning to purchase an ASA 5505 for a VPN solution for one of our offices. The office has 50-60 user at peak load who would be connecting over the S2S VPN to the datacenter.
From a hardware standpoint, can the ASA 5505 handle this load. The licence is for unlimitedf inside hosts but what is the actual limit on this platform?

My company just purchased this router for my home office for the purpose of connecting to multiple office locations.I put this router on my network at about 6pm, several machines connected to it and and were given IPs.About 5 hours later I powered up another machine and it would not get an IP address until I rebooted the router.This morning at about 5am I rebooted my SIP phone and it would not grab an IP either, not until I rebooted the router.

I have inherited an asa 5510 whit 4GE SSM module installed. The asa runs fine, but i can not use the 4GE SSM ports. Using ASDM or console i can get and configure the gigabitethernet1/x ports but i can not get traffic on it. The ping from the console to the ip address of the Gigabitethernet1/0 is successful. On switches or hubs connected to those ports i can not see the port's mac address. The two Internal-data0/0 and Internal-data1/0 are down and i can get they up. How to configure 4GE SSM or ASA internal-data ports.

I am not a ASA expert but I have configured them few times. I have a vision of a task I have to complete but not sure if it is practical or how to go about doing it.
We two locations, Location A and Location B. Both locations have a 100MB internet conection. Location A has a ASA 5510. Location B has a 5505. Users at both locations access the internet via their respective ASA. Location A is the headquarters and Location B is a disaster recovery site. We want to setup a tunnel between both ASAs. This tunnel will be used to replicate data between the two locations for DR purposes. We need the users to still use the same pipe to get to the internet but want to allocate 10MB for internet use and the remaining 90MB for the DR tunnel.

I'm looking at deploying a single WLC 5580 into a data centre and I'm trying to decide if to use flexconnect or to tunnel traffic back to the controller. There will be 2 offices each with 40 access points. The wireless will need to support roaming voice traffic. Will I have any issues with flexconnect and 30 access points? I'm aware that you can only have 25 aps per flexconnect group but I dont know if this has any limitations such as dirty roaming? Also is tunneling traffic back to the WLC ok for voice and video traffic as the traffic will have to travel back from the data centreto the local offices ?

I've some troubles connecting my PS3 to my RV120W.Both router and PS3 have latest firmwares. They are connected wireless (distance is about 10 mt, signal is good).PS3 ip is in DMZ (connection doesn't work with only Upnp), and ip fragmentation is enabled.Everything seems to work (NAT type 2), but downloading on PS3 is extremely slow. My ADSL is a 6Mb, download speed on PS3 seems like more than ten times lower (I don't know how to test it..). Plus, downloading a 100 MB patch is almost impossile, cause sooner or later I get an error and i have to restart.Two of my PCs are connected wireless, so I guess wi-fi is not the problem.

if you bring your new firmware, please verify the small bug in 'Time Settings': If you choose CET (GMT +1h) AND enable 'daylights saving time' the time goes back 6 hours instead of forward 1 hour.Firmware of RV120W: 1.0.1.3
I'm surprised that CISCO needs such a long time to solve such an issue... I thought I bought the new router from a leading network provider

I've a WRT54GL still working well after 5 years of use. I've got one Ethernet cable attached PC (computer "A"), and two WI-FI attached, (computers "B" and "C"). They're all running Windows XP. I've heard much about how intelligent devices and intelligent systems can route the traffic in the most efficient manner, but not sure how or when it works. For example, if I sit at computer "B": and copy (or move) a file from computer C to computer A, what route does the data take? Does it pass through computer B?

We will be moving to a new data center in the very near future and with them our WAN IP addresses will be changing. Any best course of action for changing the IP addresses throughout the firewall configuration? Would it be possible/suggested to export the running-config, make the neccessary changes, then import the config? I am familiar with the ASA 5510 only so far as changes are required. It is not something I work with on a regular basis.

Currently, I am publishing all my internal resources through ASA. Now my questions, if I move Standby ASA to Disaster Server Room. How I can publish the same internal resources through standby ASA and make it standby as active during the down time of main server room

I have a 1.5 TB USB hard drive attached to me E4200. Configuring it so that multiple computers have access and can read and write their files is quite simple. I've followed the instructions and had no difficulty.
My problem is this, after about a week's time has passed any file that has been on the hard drive for more than a week become undeletable. Any attempt to modify it or remove it pops up a message saying I need permission from a specific user (always the user that I am currently logged in as!) to perform the operation on the file.
When this starts to happen, the device is, otherwise, perfectly functional. I will still be able to create new files and delete any newly created files from the drive without difficulty even when those files are in the same directory as the files that the device will no longer let me edit. Examination of the file properties dialog shows that the files that the device refuses to allow me to delete are identical in every way to any new file that I create. Yet newly created files are removable but these older files ... are not.
I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that the HDD mounting feature of the device just doesn't actually work as advertised.
FWIW: all my computers are using Windows 7 with the latest build. I do access the device from these computers wirelessly.

I have E4200 v1 with 1.0.3 firmware and an old 2.5"/120GB hard drive. Today I discovered that all my data where lost. They were there not longer than a couple of days ago. I'm almost sure it's not my fault and the drive is healty. I'm now moving back datas onto it and I will check for them daily.
1) I had no power loss;
2) I didn't reboot nor I didn't switch it off/on;
3) I didn't copied files since days;
4) The last time I used it I just browsed files;
5) It's not exposed to the internet but just to local network;
6) The router hasn't logged admin logon other than from my computers.

I'm using E4200 (fw 1.0.03) as AP and EDIMAX 6675nD as a client. I can't get over ca 10MB/s data througput even there aren't any other communication loads. Test conditions are: 5GHz band, no other networks in the band, distance 2m without any obstacles, no other data transfers (except the test), data source is NTB on GLAN port of Linksys, data sink is NAS at GLAN port of Edimax, test file is 0.5GB file. The NTB and NAS doesn't seems to be a bottleneck, because NTB connected directly to the Edimax does over 50MB/s. Both the E4200 and 6675nD are (should be) capable of 450Mbit/s @ MCS23. Strange thing is that none of them allows setting of MCS23 in their manual settings. It ends with MCS15. While forcing the E4200 to a specific MCS (in the hidden wireless_advanced menu) the MCS15, 14, 13 and auto give very similar results. The throughput drops by MCS 12 and lower indexed MCSs.The 10 MB/s seems to be a low number.... and (based on internet forums) I'm not the only one fighting the magic number 10MB/s. What is the reason of the ca 10MB/s bottleneck? And the resons why both of the routers are quiet about the MCS16 to 23 schemes in their menus, while their labels aren't?

I have had an e4200 for about a month now and its been pretty good. But I have noticed that it completely locks up when I go to copy mass amounts of data through it. I have a NAS drive plugged into it and my laptop is on the 2.4 spectrum. I went to transfer 8gigs of data from laptop to NAS drive and the entire wireless portion of the router locks up. All my wireless clients drop and I have to unplug the router and plug it back in. Even the 5ghz clients drop as well. I have not tried hardwire, but the main reason I got this was for its throughput.

If I have the IP ACL firewall enabled in my RVS4000 I have trouble connecting to specific websites and also connecting to Apple's update servers. The problem appears to be that the firewall is blocking incoming data to the ephemeral ports even when they are allowed in the firewall rules. I've also tried port forwarding rules but the only thing that resolves the problem is to disable the firewall entirely, which is not the desired resolution. The firmware version is 2.0.27.
