I would like to enable "client isolation" on an autonomous, standalone 1142N AP but I don't see that option anywhere in the web interface. how to keep associated clients from passing traffic to one another on this AP?

A Cisco RV220W router/firewall connects the local LAN to the internet. The router is connected to a new Cisco SG300-28P switch configured in Layer 2 mode. There are two new AIR-1142N wireless access points running in autonomous mode connected to 2 ports on the SG300 powered through PoE. The AIR-1142N access points are running the latest firmware version 15.2(2)JB. There are two VLANs defined: VLAN1 is the native on all devices, and VLAN2 is for wireless guest traffic to provide access to the internet only.Internal/staff traffic is on 192.168.100.x, and the wireless SSID is MYNetS.Guest traffic is on 192.168.200.x and the wireless SSID is MyNetG.IP addresses are being assigned by the RV220W.
All works well with one exception. Wireless clients on the internal SSID are able to ping/access the switch, router, and other clients on wired ports on the switch. The router, switch, and wired clients can ping wireless clients. However, wireless clients, on the same SSID and the same 1142N cannot ping/access one another. They are being isolated from each other. We absolutely need to have this capability.The SG300 does not have port security enabled on any port. none of the workstations/laptops have a firewall enabled. These laptops are all Macs btw. I have checked that neither of the 1142N access points have Public Secure Packet Forwarding enabled on either of the VLANs.I am at a loss as to why the wireless clients are being isolated.
I am considering upgrading our 5508 WLCs to version 7.4.1 to take advantage of the Bonjour gateway. What I want to do is allow clients on our guest wireless network to access things like the Apple TV in our conference rooms. My intention would be to have the Apple TVs on a separate vlan. Obviously, the Bonjour gateway would allow for access between these 2 networks. The question I have is this. If I have client isolation turned on my guest wireless network, is it still possible for these devices to access Apple TVs on another network?

i have configured some 1142n's, everything works in terms of .n but the reported client connection on the AP does match the published MCS definitions.eg so what does "Current Rate (Mb/sec) m6-4" actually mean in terms of MCS connection

I have a Linksys E2000 router on my home network. The router has the newest version of firmware. Every once in a while, wireless clients on my network become "isolated". Here's an example of what happens. I set up a new wireless printer. I can print to the printer wirelessly from my phone, PC's, etc. all fine after setup. I'm thinking everything is cool!! Well after 2 weeks to 1 month this device will become "isolated" so I cannot print to it; it has an IP address, it can ping its gateway, but i cannot ping it from other devices on the same subnet. I know it's not the printer because if i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, it works fine.
Another example. I have two windows 7 PC's that are on the same home group and i can share files between them. Sometimes it works and other times it doesnt. I can ping my gateway but they cannot ping each other. I would troubleshoot the issue like crazy from the host end, but the second i unplug my E2000 and plug it back in, BINGO they can talk. Something is wrong with how these routers function with hosts in inter-subnet communications.
I'm trying to solve a disastrous networking (via workgroup nightmare) and I cannot enable the DNS Client on my Windows 7 PC. I go to cntrl panel, admin services, dns client, and try to change it to automatic and it says "access is denied"
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a E4200 v1 router and recently discovered that wired and wireless devices cannot talk to each other.Their IP address are acquired through DHCP and inside the same network, but cannot talk to each other by any means, such as ping or http connection.I tried switching wired device to wireless and this actually solve the problem. I've searched and seen thread talking about "AP isolation" settings in advanced wireless setting, but there's no such setting page in my router (running on v1.0.5 firmware). I've already disabled any filtering and firewall function on the router, but still no good.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy current production network is setup using VTP in Client mode, and I am looking to enable VTP Transparent so I can enable the extended VLANs. My main question would be, would enabling VTP Transparent on my 6509 affect all of the access switches it is connected to? And if so, would changing all of the access switches to VTP Transparent allow them to regain connectivity quickly with little downtime? Or is there another way that I should be handling this situation to enable the extended VLANs?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have run into a major issue with an autonomous Cisco 1142AP. We were in the midst of a firmware upgrade when something went wrong and caused the AP to reboot in an error mode. Basically the unit was flashing Blue, amber, red. We unmounted the unit from the wall, connected to the console, and it would now only flash red over and over. We pulled out the cisco guides and performed a factory reset on the unit. This still does not work. and the contents of our flash directory is empty. All we get is a ROMMON AP prompt on the unit. If I issue a set command, I can see the default settings for IP, netmask, etc.
I cannot access the unit via the network, even after setting IP info and matching it up to my laptop. Since I have no network connectivity, I can't TFTP a new IOS file to the unit. I am stumped. How to get the config as if it was out of the box, or an alternate way to TFTP to the unit? [code]Notice the lines in red, I must have typed someting incorrectly.Now once the unit boots after being reset, I cannot even type in the CLI. Someting majorly screwed up here. Can the bootstrap be reinitialized?
Now, with all the unified communications, voice, video and data are in the same device, and I try to give priority to voice and some applications, but in the WLC I can not find the way to mark all that kind of packets.
Is it possible to do that? like in a LAN making the marking as voice, signaling and any kind of application? as I marked in all the LAN.

I have one management vlan 5 & User VLAN for WIFI VLAN 10 . The problem is when i make the POE port which is connected to the AP as trunk port means : [code]I am not able to ping the management IP allotted from VLAN 5 . However when i make it as access i am able to ping the managament IP . But for both the VLANs to work it should be in trunk mode & in cisco i can either assign the port as access or trunk .Post this i would configure the 1142 N with Cisco SG300-10P POE Switch . I guess if issue with my 4510 gets resolved the same way i can configure SG300-10P as well .
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an Aironet 1142n and need to configure/set it on one subnet in our WAN and ship it to another subnet on the WAN.
I have not been able to access the unit using a network cable from a pc direct connected to the Aironet. The pc's ip address is set to 10.0.0.2 I can not get to the access point thru the web interface using 10.0.0.1.
When I attempted to access it using a Hyper terminal connected to serial port and console port it loaded a list of software and updates and then reported that it shut down and I could not do any thing with it.
What must I do to be able to configuer a static IP and assign it an SSID and Security settings? How can I access the web interface? I have reset it by uplugging the power cord and holding down the Mode button while I plugged back in the power cord and holding it until the light turned amber/orange. Currently the light is solid green with the ethernet port direct connected to the nic card on a desktop.
I have a question with the CAPWAP command. Typically, when I get 1142N from our provider, they have no configuration on them and all I need to do is enter 4 lines of code all starting with CAPWAP and then I have them join the controller and finish the config. This one I just received looks like it has an IOS image or configuration on it. (You can do a show run). I can: show CAPWAP - but I can not enter any CAPWAP commands. They are invalid input detected at marker. How to I get to the point where I can enter my CAPWAP commands ??

How can I have access to the cisco "AP#" prompt? When I try to acees the AP through hyperterminal, it gives me the attached messages. The message keeps looping and not letting me access the AP# command prompt to assign an IP address so that I can control it in mode HTTP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am currently switching out our Cisco 1130 APs and Cisco Small Bussiness APs for Cisco 1142Ns (I will NOT be using a WLC),
I have setup the AP, and read about some issues with Multicast and Apple Bon. Services.
I ran the "no ip igmp snooping" command and it allowed be to access our AirPlay Devices (Apple TV, AirPort Express, Etc), however our 2 AirPrint devices (Xerox 6125N, & Canon IR3220 via AirPrint Activator) are not showing up at all when connected to the 1142 (they work everywhere else).
Everything is on the same subnet, and 1142 is connected to the same switch has the airprint devices, and one Apple TV.
Both our 3500 Series switches are connected via fiber, AP and AirPrint/AirPlay devices are in the same VLAN.
10 Access Pointd 1142N setup on vlan 10 and the controller management is in vlan 10.
They get DHCP IP addreses from the controller itself!! I do not have another DHCP server.

I am testing our new wireless network using 1 Cisco 2504 wireless controller with 5 licenses 4 Cisco Air LAP 1142N Access Point I configured it very simple for testing There is only one interface and vlan is untaggetd There is also only one WLAN with one SSID Currently security setting is WPA + WPA2 + PSK (I also tested with no security setup) Wlan session time is diabled and controller user idle timeout is set to 1000000 (Max)AP boot version is 12.4.23.3 and ISO version is 12.4(23c)JA3 Problem is clinet(iphone) does not automatically associate with 1142N Access Point even after it learned network. Phone has to be authenticated again to connect to network same iphone can automatically associate with old 1220 Access point but not with New AP if I urn off and turn back on wifi from iphone, it does see the network but does not connect but I have to manually reconnect to it with password I want iphone to connect known network without reauthentication process after iphone's wifi function is turn on?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy co-workers and I have been trying to diagnose a problem that recently started occuring on our AP1141N and AP1142N units. I have found a handful of posts that talk about this issue, but none with a solid solution. It seems that as often as every 24 hours, the radio interfaces change state to down, for seemingly no reason. Once this occurs, the only way to bring the radio interface back up is to reboot the AP. As far as we know, this wasn't happening until recently, when we enabled the "N" speeds. Things were working correctly for a year or two while the APs were configured just for b/g operation. The following is the only seeminlg-relevant thing that shows up in the logs:
*Nov 12 00:53:02.508: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset
*Nov 12 00:53:03.507: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
Some additional info:
- All of the APs are connected to PoE Cisco c2960 switches
- We have tried both hard-coded radio channels, and non hard-coded
- We have tried various ways setting power inline negotiation
- We are not using a WLC
- System Software Version: 12.4(21a)JA1
- Bootloader Version: 12.4(18a)JA3
I have attached output of sh run, sh log and sh controlers dot11Radio0. (Another oddiy - the line %DOT11-2-RESET_RADIO hasn't shown up in the other logs I have viewed after this issue occurs...)
I'm looking for a way to monitor client authentication failures with our 3 standalone 1142N APs. I know that I can see failures under the log viewer of each AP

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just recently purchased the Aironet 1142n and am hoping to set it up as a repeater. I've followed the documentation here: [UEL] but am still having problems.
What I'm trying to achieve is: I have an adsl router (TP-link W8960N) at the front of the house but the wireless signal does not reach all the way to the end of the house. I am trying to set up the aironet 1142n to act as a repeater and place it in the middle of the house and hopefully that will extend the wireless signal to the end of the house and remove the dead spots. I would like to do this without having ethernet cables running all over the place and have been trying to configure the aironet 1142n to no avail. Every time I set the aironet 1142n to "repeater" it automatically coverts back to "access point" under role of radio network.
I guess my main question first of all is, can I set the aironet 1142n as a wireless repeater? And if so, where am I going wrong in my configuration?
I've just read that " Repeater access points running Cisco IOS software cannot associate to parent access points that that do not run Cisco IOS software."
Does this mean the aironet 1142n set up as a repeater will not work if the original access point (in this case, the TP Link adsl wireless router) isn't a cisco brand?
I’m configuring a Cisco 1142n AP in autonomous mode. The networking part is successfully working, multiple VLANs, SSIDs etc. I would like to configure one of my wireless networks to work with WAP2-PSK and the other with WPA-PSK.I’m confused as to what encryption to set on each radio and the ciphers to use on the SSID for each vlan to enable the best possible security. I’m not using a RADIUS sever in my network .point me in the right direction with the right CLI commands?

Client has a Cisco infrastruture with Cisco Switch´s 3750x and others.
We expected to have :
1. Managment Vlan to add WLC 2504 and the AP´s ( DHCP server should be reached on this Vlan)
2. Configure a trunk in the switch port where the WLC will connect, allowing vlan´s that we choose to reach.
3. configure WLC ( ssid´s, Vlan´s, interfaces).
4. Configure AP´s.
Is there any basic setup that i missed for things to run ?
Normally I create DHCP reservations for AP`S and for Clients in diferent Vlan´s:
Mgmt Vlan 100: 192.168.0.xx
AP´s vlan 101: 192.168.1.xx
Clients Vlan 102: 192.168.2.xx
All this ones should be created as interfaces on WLC?
I have a issue with 1142n.If I start from 15 sessions per AP then it becomes a very costly affair. Because there are almost 20.000 student.20,000 students * 60% concurrent use divided by 15 = 800 APs.what is a realistic number of sessions on this AP? What is max concurrent connections on this AP?
