Connecting To A Friend On Gaming Consoles
Feb 25, 2011
My friend and I live about 2 blocks away from each other, and for the last few months we cannot connect to each other on any game whatsoever on our PS3 and Wii. We can each connect to anyone else, but we simply can't connect to each other. It used to work just fine, but then all of a sudden it decided not to work anymore. We both have gotten new routers since then, and we've tried mixing and matching using the different routers, but that didn't work.

I would like to create multi-WLAN for personal communications, and gaming purposes. Each WLAN (is located in seperate house) and consists of a wireless AP wirely- connected to wireless router. The computers in each of these WLANs are connected wirelessly to the router. The houses (containing the WLANs) are locates within the region of a central wireless internet AP tower antenna.
I managed to utilize this central AP to make the connection, and make multiplayer gaming on two computers (in different houses and without using the internet services), each computer is connected to the central AP by a USB witrless adapter. My question is what are the necessary configurations that I need to make on the routers and APs? I have a number of different TP-Link routers (wr1043, wr743, wr543), micronet APs. Wr743 and 543 have AP client mode that can be used to simultaneously connecting wirelessly to central AP and to attaced computers.

I take my ASUS G53SW laptop and play games on steam. My problem is that my wireless connection is so slow and I am limited to single player only games, I get bored after awhile and would rather play some online games. While trying to update a patch for League of Legends I was getting a whopping 5-7 Kbps download rate. If I try playing an FPS such as Counter strike, or left 4 dead I can join the game fine, but then my ping skyrockets into the 500+ range.

I have two xbox 360's and two ps3's(my brother has his own set and I have my own). I can not figure out how to have two of them running at the same time with open nats, but if one is on then it has a open nat. Also, when I'am on my xbox and my brother on the ps3, his nat is open and mine is moderate. By the way I have uPnP on and have firmware 2.10.

We recently upgraded to the linksys ea4500 router. My brother plays call of duty on the PS3 and I play call of duty on the Xbox. The issue is we cannot figure out how to have open NAT on both consoles at the same time. I've read multiple support guides, but they don't seem to work. I'm pretty sure it's possible since I've gotten both to be open after reseting the router. The problem is it doesn't stay open on both for very long. We can get one to be open, while the other is stuck on moderate.
We've tried port range forwarding and port range triggering. By default, the PS3 is open. To get the Xbox to open, i disable 'filter anonymous requests' in the security settings, and disable UPnP. (With UPnP enabled, the is ps3 is open & xbox is moderate, with it off, xbox is open and ps3 is moderate).

The building's IT specialist has provided a program I think he made himself which changes a computer's settings to allow the user to log on and enter their student username and password in order to connect to the internet.Usually, when I get back from his place, I:plug in my Ethernet cable, open network and sharing center open the properties for my wired connection go to authentication and untick 'enable IEEE 802.1x authentication'and this works fine. However, I came back from his house two days ago and this did not work. I've tried system restore multiple times, rebooting, unplugging and plugging in the cable, and even going back to his house, setting myself up there and coming back to test if I can get back to normal again.

OK I want to be able to play MMORPGS and other online games without any latency (or as little as possible). I have wireless 25mb internet in my house but the router is not in my room it is about 25 meters away in my parents room. I experience latency with my current set up while gaming online so I have decided to switch to wired. What is my best option for doing so? Running a wire through from the router to my room would be possible but I need to know if the length will effect performance and what type of Ethernet cable I would need (including estimated price). The other option is to move the router from that room to mine but im not familiar with how this would be done and what the costs would be

I recently upgraded to a new computer, it runs beautifully as expected however I encounter this problem with gaming. Whenever I hop in a game such as Dead Island, Arma 2 : CO (Day Z), Stalker : CoP, even Skyrim ( with SKSE, standard it ran okay. ) my connection will drop for my entire local network. I can still connect to my router, and it shows that I disconnect and reconnect with a new IP, from the logs it seems to be unprovoked. A few games will operate normally, however with Stalker, I play completely offline, and my connection still drops. It's not an instant disconnect, and it generally varies in time. However, when I'm not gaming, I get a steady connection with no issues, I get advertised speeds and can stream videos, and download perfectly fine. I've tried a USB wireless adapter to cross my motherboard off the list, and it encountered the same issue. But this problem just started occurring when I got the new computer.

Whenever I play video games my internet is completely interrupted and eventually disconnects.I thought it was a steam issue but recently I bought dragon age 2 and the exact same thing happens for it.
What is strange is that it continues to happen even if I run the game in a window and pull up a program in front of it, but the moment I minimize the game (windowed) the internet picks right up 2 seconds or so after I minimize it. I verified this by running speed tests and minimizing and reopening the game window to see what would happen.
I am completely confused on where to begin. I remember playing Arma 2 6 months ago and I didn't have this issue but something has changed since then and I don't know what.I have U-Verse internet, ATI Radeon HD 5700, Intel i5 cpu 2.67ghz, windows 7 32 bit, and 4 gb ram.

My router/modem is at one corner of the house and my computer is supposed to go in the other corner of the house. I am looking to play Battlefield 3, CS:GO, CoD:4, DayZ, and some other online games that require good connection to even do decent. I am going to be downloading different things and uploading videos to YouTube. I need a VERY FAST WiFi adapter that is comparable to wired connection, and remember, my computer will be all the way across the house.

I am wanting to get a new router for gaming, because the one I have is really bad in my opinion.. I got this one at the time I bought it cause I needed one really fast.Setup:Time Warner Cable 30Mbps Down 1Mbps Up (In speed test I get this):
Killer 2100 Network Card (Latest FirmWare)
TCP Optimizer
System Mechanic Pro Network Optimizer
*I don't know if the TCP and System mechanic did anything or not to my network stacks/registry but that could be a possibility*
Time Warner Cable Modem
WGR614v10 Router:
[URL]
CAT5E and CAT 6 Cables... Would having two types in the same connection make the connection weird?I just want to really make my connection overall sufficient for gaming.. I don't want to worry about lag coming from client side at all.
1. I lose connection a lot, and I doubt it's on Time Warner's end cause I have called them multiple times about this..
2. I have to power cycle a lot with this router.
3. The Time Warner Cable people came out and put in new cable lines and connectors, so I doubt it's the cable lines.
4. No I don't suck at gaming, I am a pro E-sports athlete so I am very good I am just concerned about client side network lag, cause even on perfect registration servers from Eoreality that have a dedicated server boxes, I still get updated a lot... I have times where I shoot and I get the kill, and other where I know I should have gotten them?

I've recently upgraded my computer from a XP machine to a Win7 machine. Back in the old days of my XP machine I would almost only use it to play a Battlefield 2 mod called Project Reality. When I first purchased the wirelsess USB adapter I had a problem with the game losing connection for a little while every 30 second, which of course was extremely annoying. I later solved this problem by disabling Windows Zero Wireless.
But if I turn off WLAN autoconfig in Windows 7 I'm not able to connect to my WIFI at all. It turns off my third party wireless software as well?By the way my USB adapater is a D-link 160 and my router is a D-link 615 (Maybe... I'm at work so it's just out of my memory)

How to I find out what ports my Playstation 3 uses for online gaming? Im sure i could search online and find out but im saying how do those websites find their information? For example, even if it doesn't, let's assume Playstation Network uses port 250. How would I manually find this out? And once I find this out, how do I find out what ports any particular game uses? This way I can forward all of these ports in my router. Also, am I correct in assuming that I could simply skip all of this port forwarding and just assign my Playstation 3 a static IP address and place it in my router's DMZ, thus forwarding ALL ports to my Playstation 3? my roommate has an Xbox and plays on Xbox Live. We own 2 routers. Is there any way I can connect 2 routers to my cable modem so that 1 router can be dedicated for my Playstation 3 while the other router can be dedicated for my roommate's Xbox?

I was playing a MMO game called Wizard101, when randomly, I disconnected from it. I tried first to re-connect to the game, no success. So I tried going to its website, loads very slowly, sometimes not loading at all. Then I wanted to try go to its fansite, to ask for support there, but it turns out that the fansite isn't loading too.I try to load a few more pages that is related to the game, but none of them will load. However everything else seems to load just like normal.
I try to fix this with using my usuall fixes:
- I tried connecting to the websites on another computer. Didn't work.
- Restarted my internet + reset my router back to standard. Neither did this work.
I haven't changed any of my internet settings in a few months; so I doubt anything there would be the problem.

My internet/gaming/netflix has been slowing down lately, some parts of the day there are no problems, other parts (4-10pm) its impossible. I live with one roommate, I have my own router and he has his own router. Mine is a Netgear router, not sure what his is. Ourinternet, with no problems is: 65ping, 4.8 mbps, and .60 upload. When its busy: 180ping, .30 mbps, and .09 upload. I constantly get kicked off xbox live and its super frustrating. The thing is, when my roommate is gone I am able to stream netflix in HD without any problems. However, when he's using netflix the quality of mine drops to the lowest signal and most times disconnects me from xbox live. I'm not sure if this is an ISP issue or a router issue

My Wi-fi on my rig seems to have some odd problems. When I'm gaming i often get a lag spike every 10-20 second or so, and before I got the "Vista anti-lag" program I was also getting the enormous 60 second lag spike. I'm sure many Vista users recognize this problem. But here is the deal, the first kind of lag spikes completely disappear while talking on Skype! Which makes me wonder, what is it with Skype (only while talking) that removes the lag? Gaming with Skype makes all games run fluently without any spikes at all.

I own the DIR-655 version B1 (EU version) living in the UK.I play xbox, specifically in Halo Reach. My setup isn't straight forward as I have 2 xboxes in the house, one wired and one wireless and I need to keep the NAT ratings open on both. This limits me to certain settings, and doesn't allow QOS on the v2.00 firmware due to my need to have dynamic ip addresses.I have just flashed the router's firmware with new version (DIR655B1_FW205B06) as it appeared available for download in the router's firmware menu. The old version was FW2.00 as said.any other settings to enable or disable, for wired, or wireless, that will optimise for xbox gaming. Finally, I also have fw version DIR655B1_FW206B02, which was emailed to me by D-Link, if this is any better.
