View 1 RepliesI'm trying to connect my two computer (XP and Win 7) using a crossover cable. I set the the IP as 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2.The computers can see each each other and I can access the public folder of the win7-machine on my XP-machine. However, if I try accessing the xp-machine it says:
Quote: You don't have permission to access \PC. Contact your network administrator to request access.
Both computers can ping each other without problems.I've tried rebooting the computers, plugging the cable out and back in again, turn Internet (wifi) off but it doesn't work. Also, the File and Printer Sharing is enabled, too. Disabling the firewalls won't work and I deactivated the user/pass login so there is no password needed.

Now I am trying to connect these two routers through a cat5 cross-over cable and I wanted to know whether can I disable DHCP on the router which has internet, and enable the DHCP of the router which is connected to the printers, because I have a few systems that shouldn't be connected to the internet.
What I had in mind is if I switch the DHCP OFF on the internet router and turn it ON on the Huawei B683 router, I could add those devices' MAC addresses to the internet gateway router to deny them access to the internet..?
As per the image, is it possible to have dedicated nics between two PCs via a crossover for data transfer/remote access, while still having another nic to access a network for internet, and other systems? The reason I ask is that, it would be very convenient to be able to run backups without having my internet running for some reasons I would rather not go into detail about.

When my laptop connected back to the internet again, my pc now says that there is no internet access coming from the cable. I have reset both my laptop and my pc, the router and changed cables. I have also enabled NETBios with TCP on both computers, but nothing.

I've done something wrong, because I'm not getting a signal at the last outlet, and now I'm wondering if one of these legs needed to be wired for crossover, not pass-through.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just got done running CAT 6 wire's into different rooms and placing jacks on the wall which all works correcting going into the patch panel. The problem I am having is that the Access Points on the ceiling I decided to make it a little easier and use regular network cable and cut one end off and place it into the patch panel the same way as all the jacks. The AP's are POE and they are just not getting on the network. Do I need to do something different for this cable? The way I punched all the wall jacks and all the cables to the patch panel is by using section B on the jack so because of me cutting a cable and leaving one end on, should I use A or is there something else I should do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI would like to create multi-WLAN for personal communications, and gaming purposes. Each WLAN (is located in seperate house) and consists of a wireless AP wirely- connected to wireless router. The computers in each of these WLANs are connected wirelessly to the router. The houses (containing the WLANs) are locates within the region of a central wireless internet AP tower antenna.
I managed to utilize this central AP to make the connection, and make multiplayer gaming on two computers (in different houses and without using the internet services), each computer is connected to the central AP by a USB witrless adapter. My question is what are the necessary configurations that I need to make on the routers and APs? I have a number of different TP-Link routers (wr1043, wr743, wr543), micronet APs. Wr743 and 543 have AP client mode that can be used to simultaneously connecting wirelessly to central AP and to attaced computers.
My friend and I live about 2 blocks away from each other, and for the last few months we cannot connect to each other on any game whatsoever on our PS3 and Wii. We can each connect to anyone else, but we simply can't connect to each other. It used to work just fine, but then all of a sudden it decided not to work anymore. We both have gotten new routers since then, and we've tried mixing and matching using the different routers, but that didn't work.

My problem is that my wireless connection is so slow and I am limited to single player only games, I get bored after awhile and would rather play some online games. While trying to update a patch for League of Legends I was getting a whopping 5-7 Kbps download rate. If I try playing an FPS such as Counter strike, or left 4 dead I can join the game fine, but then my ping skyrockets into the 500+ range.

They are all connected to the company network for internet and access to shared network drives. The computers are used for media (mostly video) production and we need to move large files between the computers easily and quickly. The current network (company wide) is slow and unreliable, so I would like to create a separate network for these four computers and have them connected to both the company network and the office room network. Each computer already has two network ports and I have a router I can use.

They could both work from home and access each others computer files, spreadsheet and databases.

I have tried another router ie. netgear dg834g router and this problem didn't occur and i am able to connect over the network without a problem. Obviously there is something wrong with the router settings.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with copying files onto my Storage device Connected to my WAG320N, the router is up to date with the latest updates and has been reset in an attempt to overcome this problem. I currently have attached a 2TB Seagate External Hard drive plugged directly into the router formatted in NTFS, and using Windows 7 Bit to access the Routers Webpage and the External Drive.
I am able to set up permissions and access control all okay, so some users can see some folders or have access in Read only or Read and Write Permissions, however I have been using the Admin account when accessing the drive which has Read and Write permissions to all Folders on the Drive. I can create a new document on the Drive (Right click > New > .Docx or .txt) and save file successfully and can view from other computers from the network, however I cannot Copy from any of the computers to the Network drive (e.g.. Copy .txt file from Computer to Network drive), I get the Windows Transfer Dialog and it Calculates Transfer Rate for a while before telling me it's unable to and that I can either select Try Again which comes up with the same error message, or Cancel the transfer. The reason why I want to be able to Copy files to the Network Drive is so I can centralise all the Photos, Videos and other files and documents to be shared to all computers on the network.
I have 2 PCs connected directly together with a CAT5 crossover cable. I can ping each of them but I cannot ping names of PCs. I have specified IP addresses. My Network Places doesn't show anything in terms of workgroup PCs. I get a cannot access workgroups warning on one of them, may not have administrator privileges etc.

His theory: One of the computers need an ethernet card so 2 crossover cables can be plugged into it.(The MOBOs only have one port to plug in Cat5s)
My theory: Cut 2 crossover cables in half. And put the three ends together so the wires are touching each other, then tape it. For example green to green to green, orange to orange to orange, etc. Here's an example picture: Now I know my theory would work with audio but me co-trainee isn't so sure if it will work with networking.
