View 9 Replies View RelatedWhenever it comes time to terminate Cat6 lines into an RJ-45 connector, there is an expected way of lining up the colors in each end. This differs somewhat between Cat5 and Cat6 but the principle remains the same: there is a standard order in which to feed the wires into the connector.
My question is, why is this order used? Is there a specific reason why it is done this way? The way I see it, since all 8 wires inside the cable are the same, it shouldn't matter which order you use, as long as it is the same on both ends...

They are all connected to the company network for internet and access to shared network drives. The computers are used for media (mostly video) production and we need to move large files between the computers easily and quickly. The current network (company wide) is slow and unreliable, so I would like to create a separate network for these four computers and have them connected to both the company network and the office room network. Each computer already has two network ports and I have a router I can use.

Laptop 2 works on data, puts it onto a flash drive then goes to laptop 1 and opens the spreadsheet and enters data from flash drive. My thought is wouldn't it be great if they could use some type of VPN? They could both work from home and access each others computer files, spreadsheet and databases.

I use the Cisco/Lyncsys E4200 router on my LAN and can re-connect to the storage on the local LAN by setting up Port Forwarding of port 21 and MS Windows FTP folder sharing. However, I can't seem to connect to a Terminal Services client by forwarding port 3389. Is there a way to connect to the local LAN after logging into the VPN connection. I can connect to regular HTTP/HTTPS sites and most other type of connectiins, just not my own local resources.

I've run Avast, AVG and CCcleaner, on all the computers and the spikes still persist. I've also replaced my router with no results. Here's my system info and some tracerts showing the lag spikes

I have an XP machine that is unable to see any other computer on the network. I disabled the firewall and I can ping any device on the network with no issue. I have set several other computers to the same workgroup which is mshome. Lastly I have read several other post and tried the ideas there including this one...Finally, let's do the stack repair.TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.
Start, ]R[/B]un, CMD to open a command prompt:
In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands:
Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.
Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reboot the machine. That did not seem to work. As I am still in the same situation.
another note. This is the only XP on the network. Everyone else is Windows 7. Also on a side note, the reason I am doing this is to install a printer on this one and allow the other computers to print from it and seeing folders is good also.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have 4 computer, all with them IP address. There is nothing I can do about this. I'd like to access them each via a 5th computer. Originally I thought I can connect each of the 4 computers to 4 different routers and then use NAT to convert their IP address's to 4 unique ones. When I actually applied this solution, the 5th computer was not able to ping the converted IP address. This method either does not work, or I did not config the router correctly. I was using a Cisco RV016 out of the box, and added NAT entries into it's table.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was getting the standard "Network Path Was Not Found" error that I would get from time to time if I tried to access the drive before my network connection was solid on my computer. So I tried using the Easy Search Utility to "reconnect" to the drive. I tried the mapping feature and when I asked to connect, it asked for a username and password (which I don't remember it asking for in the past), so I typed in the username and password that I use to connect to the drive when doing maintenance and I tried the username and password I use to connect to the drive when connecting remotely through DynamicDNS. Both ended up giving me an error that it couldn't connect.
NOW when I try to use the old mapped reference to connect to it, I get the following error... "Z: refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure the disk is properly inserted...."
I'm currently having troubles using my XP laptop (although I have another XP that is still connecting just fine)One strange thing to note... while I was pecking at buttons trying to figure out what it could be, I started using the Wireless Network Setup Wizard and the first option it gave me was to Add Computers to the Network FSHGuest... which is a hospital network I was using. I didn't complete the wizard. Not sure if this has ANYTHING to do with my problem, but I thought it was interesting.and I checked the wireless workgroup and it is still set to the same group that all my computers are. Can you tell I'm not terrible proficient at network stuff?
Can a computer on our network with no admin privelages cause other computers to shutdown? We have 15 machines that are having force shut downs happening but they are clear of viruses malwares, we have ran multiple scans and nothing but could another computer somewhere on the network tell them to force shutdown closing everything?

He frequently paused for five minute intervals to "confer with his resources" (I suspect he was reading an outline that told him what to do), and every time I explained that an issue did not work precisely as he expected, he had to put me on hold and talk to someone else. It was hellishly aggravating
