Won't Connect After Using Friend's University LAN
Feb 24, 2013The building's IT specialist has provided a program I think he made himself which changes a computer's settings to allow the user to log on and enter their student username and password in order to connect to the internet.Usually, when I get back from his place, I:plug in my Ethernet cable,open network and sharing center open the properties for my wired connection go to authentication and untick 'enable IEEE 802.1x authentication'and this works fine. However, I came back from his house two days ago and this did not work. I've tried system restore multiple times, rebooting, unplugging and plugging in the cable, and even going back to his house, setting myself up there and coming back to test if I can get back to normal again.

Mar 13, 2011My vista box is not connecting to internet. If I do a repair it appears to resolve the problem. However if I then attempt to pull up IE or Mozilla it takes a long time to load and eventually I lose the connection. Resulting in "cannot display webpage". I have scanned for virus and spyware and found very little spyware nothing malicous. Refusing to believe there was no virus I reformatted HD completly still having the same issue. Not sure what else I can do, I have searched for the most recent drivers. When check the status of my connection it shows that I am getting data packets sent and recieved. I cannot connect in safe mode either. I suppose it could be a bad NIC but I would think that if it was bad it wouldnt indicated that im connected and showing active data packets.

As such, I was looking for a way to transmit a wireless signal from my computer, and place an alternative form of security onto it (such as WEP), so that the 3DS can connect to it.
At the moment, my desktop is connected via ethernet cable, which plugs directly into a wall socket. I'm pretty unsure as to what to use, I've heard of things such as 'wireless bridges', but I'm not sure how they work. Also, I'm looking for the device to transmit a signal even if my desktop isn't turned on. Is a router my only option?
