My computer was recently infected with the XP Antivirus 2012 rogue virus. I believe that it has been removed from my computer, but I am unable to connect to the internet. After getting virus and cleaning the system as requested, including all of the registry items not required, I have been unable to get onto the internet.Bad Image Error.I have a Mesh PC, running XP SP3.The motherboard is MS-7207 ver2.I've tried reinstalling the ethenet drivers but to no avail.I can see the network adapter in the control panel and it says the drivers are installed OK.The green light comes on when the cable is plugged in but not the yellow data lamp.I have a second hard drive from an old PC that I reinstalled windows on booted from, I updated the drivers and successfully connected to the internet, which proves all the hardware and drivers do work, but just not on my main hard drive containing my proper windows install.I'm logging this fault on my work laptop as its the only way I can get on line. (My work laptop works at home over the same broadband connection I have used previously.

2) I can not connect my wired desktop to the Internet. I can ping the ip address of google.com but not the url. I can also not ping ip address of netgear.com. My laptop has no problem connecting to the wireless network.

My vista box is not connecting to internet. If I do a repair it appears to resolve the problem. However if I then attempt to pull up IE or Mozilla it takes a long time to load and eventually I lose the connection. Resulting in "cannot display webpage". I have scanned for virus and spyware and found very little spyware nothing malicous. Refusing to believe there was no virus I reformatted HD completly still having the same issue. Not sure what else I can do, I have searched for the most recent drivers. When check the status of my connection it shows that I am getting data packets sent and recieved. I cannot connect in safe mode either. I suppose it could be a bad NIC but I would think that if it was bad it wouldnt indicated that im connected and showing active data packets.

If I plug any computer directly into the underground cable it connects to the server fine.
If I plug a switch into the cable, none of the computers connected to the switch gets an IP address from the server. When I try to assign manual IP addresses I also can't connect.
But when I use the same switch and plug it into the server using a shorter cable everything works.
My wireless key is turned on, and I know it has nothing to do with my router at my apartment because my friend's wireless connection works fine. I know it has something to do with my own computer because I am in college and I cannot connect wirelessly off-campus at my apartment or on-campus using my school's wireless network connection.

Before and after restoring the original os, however, I still have not been able to connect to the internet through the onboard lan that doesn't seem to be active or even be seen by the computer. Running Windows 7 Home Premium, Dell OEM install.The symptoms are:No wifi connection, adapter does not show in dev manager. It is just missing, scan for new hardware doesn't find it.Will not connect via ethernet...no internet access.It will not renew or release its IP address, says there is no device in permissible state for this operation.The computer had obvious malware, there were a bunch of sketchy items in the startup. I ran several malware tools, they found and removed hundreds of items. The computer had an expired installation of Trend Micro, I removed that and used the removal tool from Trend to be sure it was gone. I do not know if it has had other security software installed in the past, I ran Norton and McAfee removal tools since those come on most PCs.
I have tried resetting winsock and TCP/IP, to no avail.I know I need to probably reinstall wifi drivers to get the card back, but that's next after I solve the overall connectivity issues. If this were my PC I would have just Re-OSed by now, and I may just suggest that to him.

View 1 Replies View RelatedA lightening strike hit us recently (last week) and fried electronics in the house. The next morning we didn't have internet on either our PC or Apple laptop. The modem wasn't doing its blinky green light dance. I used a multi-meter; the power supply was dead. I replaced it. It did its blinky dance. I turned everything on in order; turn everything off, turn the modem on and wait, turn the router on and wait, and turn on the PC and laptop. The good news was, the laptop got the internet, albeit much more slowly and intermittently than it used to. The PC got nothing. I've fumbled around with this for a week and can't fix it. I'm not sure if what's wrong is the router, modem, or something specific to the PC. Time Warner reported the internet is getting to my location (I called). They said the router was the problem and, consequently, not their problem. I tried connecting the laptop to the modem directly, leaving the router and PC unconnected. This works (I get the internet on the laptop, still). I tried connecting the PC to the modem and leaving the laptop and router unconnected. This *doesn't* work (I get no internet on the PC). Night before last, without warning, all 6 stopped connecting through the wireless router. I took the router out of the mix, and now only the linux laptops can connect to the internet via ethernet cable. comcast support is useless.any ideas what could be happening here? Only 1 of the linux and 2 of the windows laptops were connected at the time this occurred.

I would guesstimate that every 5-15 mins the dsl broadband just gives and all internet goes down for probably 1-3 mins at a time.I honestly have no idea. I'm using a 2Wire, just what AT&T gave me. I'm guessing it's either the dsl filter, or the actually router itself, i'm just not sure how to go about troubleshooting and figuring out the root of the problem.

Since then, I have use malwarebytes anti malware, ccleaner and microsoft security essentials to scan and remove the virus.Usually what happens is that I will be using firefox, and all of a sudden most of my programs would exit, and one of those fake virus scanners come up (Microsoft security essentials also turns off if that is important). I open the task manager, and identify the program. I open explorer (as i can't open mbam, or mse) and delete the file. While it is in the recycle bin, I can open mbam (for some reason, it asks what program to open mbam with, I just pick mbam from the list) and I scan, and remove the threats. Then I empty the recycle bin, and use ccleaner to fix the registries. Lastly, I use mse to scan the computer.Everything works for a while until it comes back again....and again....and again. I've tried the same steps in safe mode and again in regular mode. It's still happening.
