Feb 23, 2012I was just checking my router's firewall log and I noticed a couple of entries which appear somewhat suspicious, amongst all the 'normal' background radiation of (mainly) Russian and Chinese IPs: [code] The source IP for these 'attacks' is/was unused on my internal network.
My router is a Billion BiPAC 7800N running 1.06e firmware. There are a number of devices permanently connected to the internal network and a number which are connected at other times (e.g. desktops, laptops, mobile/cell phones, games consoles). Some are wired, some are wireless. Some have static IPs (none of which are listed in the above 'attacks'), some have dynamic IPs (assigned by DHCP by the router in a range not listed above). The WiFi is secured with a strong key on WPA/WPA2-PSK, AES (no WPS). Web Access Control for the router is disabled. Block WAN PING (and Block WAN (IPv6) PING) are both enabled.

My goal was to limit the dhcp to the range 172.16.11.0 - 172.16.13.255, as there are not so many user on this network I so limited the lease time to 8 hours in order to "recycle" the unused addresses". What happend is that it is always using new IPs, even if the lease time has expired.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 Connection On Laptop Go Unused For Some Period
Jan 10, 2012Just replaced a WRT54GS with an E2500. It seems that anytime a connected device goes "idle" for a while, the connection breaks or severely reduces and it's nearly impossible to get the connection back without performing an action at the device in question. Let the wireless connection on my laptop go unused for some period and it reduces to 1Mbps and you can't get back on by just using the link more... you have to do a "repair".
Let more than a few minutes pass since you've printed something on the wireless printer and you MUST go to the printer to re-establish the connection by turning the antenna off and then on again.Basically the same problem with my blueray/DVD getting on the network. When I shut the screen off on my phone, the wifi dies and receives NOTHING over that link while the screen is off.
None of these behaviors existed with the WRT... just the 2500. Background/facts - current firmware, DHCP with reservations, WPA2/per, MAC filtering in use, UPnP disabled. MTU/Beacon/Frag threshold/RTS threshold set per recommendations on this site.

Jun 2, 2012Past few days I've been having problems with my WiFi connections. the modem connection to my desktop works fine.. i called the isp guy to fix it.. he did something to my roommates laptop and the WiFi works on it.. but any other device trying to connect to the WiFi connection doesn't seem to get the net.

Oct 27, 2012just bought a new monitor and graphic card (nvidia gtx 650), proceeded to install it, then installed the drivers. Now that my pc is much more good looking, i can't connect to internet anymore I'm writing this from my netbook, so my router works just fine. I tried to reinstall the graphic card videos, downloading the latest ones, and the drivers of my wireless usb adapter aswell (it's a tp-link TL-WN321G). I had no success, my pc still doesn't see any connection. I didn't find by googling many other examples of people unable to connect to internet after installing nvidia drivers.

Feb 15, 2012I come home from work on my lunch break to discover that my dog spilled her food on my router and I'm pretty sure thats how she discovered that cat5 cables are fun to saw on with her teeth, she chewed clean through 4 of them...she also chewed through the power cable and somehow cheated death in that regard.
After repairing and crimping all ethernet cables and substituting a brand new one for good measure, the DIR-615 will not see any ethernet connections, ie the lights on the front do not come on when the cable is plugged in, however I plugged my internet Cat5 into it and the little globe lights up saying that it is getting the internet. The wireless works fine as I connected to it with my phone. I know I repaired the cables properly but to rule that out I have used a brand new un-chewed cable and the router won't see that either. Is it possible that something was fried when the dog chewed through the power cable?

At this point everything is working fine. Computers in "Place 1" can see computers in "Place 2" over network and share files and printers. Plus "Place 2" have internet from "Place 1".I want now to link "Place 2" to a "Place 3" using the same Nanostation M5 antennas and I can do it the same way I did Place1-Place2, BUT, what about "Place 3" router? it is connected to a DSL modem. "Router 3" should be DHCP Disabled too? What about the internet connection? I would like "Place 2" in the middle would be able to take the internet connection from both Place 1 - Place 3. It can be done keeping computers sharing files and folders between all 3 places?

Aug 22, 2011I've got a DIR-651 that does one of two things regularly:
1--drops all wireless connections momentarily, then re-establishes them (happens multiple times a day)
2--drops all wireless connections and has to be reset (happens every 0.5-2 days)
#1 wouldn't be a big deal, except that I keep VPN connections on two systems and have to re-establish them every time this happens. I should probably also note that this happens even on the weekends, when those two systems are not VPN'd in.
It has done this since day 1, and the firmware update did not work.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Two Wireless Connections At The Same Time?
Aug 13, 2011My kid is heading off to college with a Toshiba Satellite E-205 laptop and a Kodak ESP Office 2150 printer. She would like to use the wireless printer option on the Kodak, which requires a wireless router. I have a D-Link DIR-655 wireless router that I can send with her.
I know her university has a very robust wireless system for Internet access, so she is going to want to use their wireless access.
So, the DIR-655 sole use will be to allow access to the printer. It will not be accessing the Internet or be cabled into the university's network.
Is it possible to operate TWO wireless connections at the same time so she can hit her university wireless and the DIR-655 so she can print wirelessly?
how do I configure the laptop and the DIR-655 to allow this kind of access?

I do not want the desktop and the Tablet networked with each other. there is a Tablet on Newegg: Velocity Micro Cruz Reader R103. the details say it's communication is 802.11b/g Wireless LAN. so I copy and paste that on Newegg and get: D-Link DIR-601 Wireless Broadband Router. not sure if that's what i need or what the configuration would be but I kind of know how to set it up.my question is can I connect a Desktop and a Tablet or any PC device to a router like this with out networking the individual units with each other? just to where it serves as more a splitter. is there any wireless alternatives to only "split" the Internet connection and not network the desktop and Tablet?

TP-Link WN722N Not Showing In Connections Menu?
Nov 23, 2011Just bought myself a TP-Link WN722N Wirless Adapter. Currently I have a Netgear WNA3100 connected which works fine but I to use the TP-Link to connect to a second network simultaneously.Here's the problem.The drivers installed just fine for the TP-Link adapter. Windows shows that its connected as a USB device (USB2.0 WLAN) and Network & Sharing Centre shows it is being "Wireless Network Connection 4"(The Netgear one shows as "Wireless Network Connection 2")However, when i try to use the TP-Link one to connect to a network, it doesn't show up in the "Network Connections" menu on the Taskbar, and when i disconnect the Netgear one it says that it can't find any wireless connections at all; note that "Network & Sharing Centre" still shows the TP-Link Adapter as being connected to the PC).Tried Reinstalling the TP-Link Software, updating it, etc. Restarted PC. Disabled Netgear connection. Physically Disconnected Netgear Adapter and still no luck.

I'm sure I'm missing some devices, but that should give you the general mix of wired/wireless devices that I use. I'm single with visits from my son every other weekend, so network traffic is not that high at my house. I've had this router for a couple years now and didn't use to have this problem. I've been updating the firmware, and I suspect this problem happened after on one those updates. I just don't know which one. Also, I didn't use to have any neighbors with Wireless Routers (that I could detect), but recently there have been 2 who have gotten them. I was hoping this was a problem that D-Link was aware of, but that does not seem to be the case. I would hate to have to go out and buy a new router (not D-Link).
D-Link DIR-655 :: Dropping Wired And Wireless Connections?
Feb 8, 2013After 5 years of services my DIR-655 begun acting up yesterday; first of it begun by getting REALLY slow, it could take up to 25 seconds to login into the software and up to 30+ seconds just going from one menu to another, on some instances connection (wired) to the router was lost. This morning it started dropping all connections, wired or not; first my iphone then my WDTV, after that it's been pretty much random connections. On one given moment wired works but not wireless, then wireless works but not wired and sometimes I get both but for 3 or 4 minutes.I've reset the router to factory settings, plugged/unplugged, changed cables, network adapters on desktops and the problem persists.

Jan 17, 2012my configuration; ADSL2+ @ 21Mbps comes in via Telstra. Fibre optic cable trunk to main road, copper to the house, total distance 246m, hence good speeds. The phone is connected to a dual port filter with a phone and fax connected through double adapter to one port, and DSL-526B connected to other port.DSL-526B connected to DIR-655 Hardware A4, firmware 1.30. The two are set up in bridge mode, with a static IP. The DIR-655 connects to a DGS-1016D and a DGS-1008.I am running WIndows 7 ultimate x64 w/8GB ram, I5-2500K, and all MS patches.
four days ago I reinstalled my windows system. At that time, I uninstalled Tablet PC components and Windows search. I use FreeDownload Manager for my download needs, and it includes a BitTorrent client. I installed the latest version.From that point on, whenever I download any torrents the connnection to the internet resets and takes about 1 - 3 minutes to re-establish itself. I have tried going back through the several versions of the program to get back to the version I was running before I re-installed all to no avail.
I replaced the cable between wall socket and filter, replaced filter, replaced phone cable, also to no avail. I have tweaked the program settings now with only three half open connections, and I've reset the modem donezn of times. I've reset the DIR-655, and done factory resets on both and reconfigured them. Nothing has worked. I use MAC address filtering and I have ACLS which block access to various sites because of kids, and I use OpenDNS web content filtering too.

Feb 5, 2012My Dlink router has been working fine until recently. The only changes I made was to try to put time limits on my kids' devices, through Tools->Schedules and Advanced-> access control. Things worked Ok, but I soon realized I had to reserve each kids' device DHCP number, or so I thought(?) Anyhow, now I seem to have to log into my dlink router weekly as their wireless connection stops each week. Not sure if it affects the non-reserved wireless devices. Not sure what's happening or what I did wrong. Jun 7, 2011I noticed over 100 connections from my wirelessly-connected PC to my router's IP address, destination port 4444. Is this normal, or could it be some kind of misconfiguration? At the moment, there are no connections to port 4444 in my PC's firewall connection list. Why would my PC connect to the router on port 4444?I've scanned my PC for viruses/malware and it's come up clean, so I was wondering if this could be caused by my router? Google doesn't have any answers to this either. My firmware version is 1.34.
