D-Link DIR-825 :: No Link Between 5ghz Clients And Wired Lan
Mar 20, 2012
I have a dir-825 and wireless clients connected on the 5ghz ssid can see clients on 2.4 ssid and also out to the WAN (internet) but can't see any clients (my NAS ) connected to the dir-825 wired lan.2.4 ghz clients see everything fine. same with clients connected through the wired lan. I've tried DHCP and static ips. no idea what to do next.I was originally on 2.02 fw and have tried 2.03, 2.05 and now 2.06I'd really like to keep the 5ghz on because I have an AP by my tv and several devices connect from there to stream from the NAS.

How come my 2.4GHz client can't see my 5GHz client? Shouldn't they be visible through the DIR-825 router?

As I continue to have various issues with my revision A version of the DIR-825, does an updated firmware is in the works? Or has revision A been DE-supported by Dlink?
I'm still having issues with: Share port printer no longer being recognized/usable until router rebootedLoss/overload of router which causes all clients (wired and wireless) to loss connectivity Router rebooting itself periodically

We've been using an 655 in an NGO office that has grown to 20+ computers in two buildings (next to each other). The 655 doesn't seem to be handling that many clients very well so I want to get another one (perhaps a more powerful unit). We will stay operating on 2.5Ghz, have one of the units act as an AP in the other building (too bad we can't bridge with these). Most of the router activity is LAN based (server, etc). Our Internet connection is only 256kbps satellite (and is proxied first through the server). But the LAN performance is not good when many clients are active and some services on the router will freeze and require reboot several times a week, assuming b/c it's overtaxed.
1. know if the 825 will perform better in in 2.5ghz only mode than the 655? Seems that it has more RAM. Newer processor too? The tests I saw online showed that the 655 outperformed the 825 in simultaneously connections, but I assume that was probably in dual mode. I want to know if the 825 will be better in 2.5ghz only mode. We won't need 5ghz mode.
2. Is there another newer DLink I should consider that would provide better capacity and throughput on 2.5ghz only? However, it is ciritical that we keep the same feature set for security (IP based access control rules to various IP ranges on the Internet).
3. It would be awesome if some DLink supported even more sources and/or destinations per access control rule. We use these extensively and the 655 B1 2.01 build has several bugs for access control rules. Is there any DLink that has more robust access control or is it about the same for all?

Have hooked up a DIR-825 to an iMac and it works well on 2.4GHz band. Having issues seeing 5GHz band as it comes and goes. Just today bought a DWA-160 USB adapter hoping it would connect the kid's PS3 to the 5GHz band but the PS3 wont accept or recognize either the DWA-160 or the 5GHz band.
Can't find any solutions in the manuals.Desperate for a fix as the wife and I want to be able to work on the 2.4GHz without being constantly kicked off by the kids on the PS3.

What is the 5GHz antenna orientation in the DAP-1522? If I want to get the best signal for streaming to a DSM-750 how should I orient the the DAP-1522? Horizontal? Vertical? and which edge towards the media player?
It's working but the access point only reports about 50% signal strength over 20 feet (and only 1 wall) so I would have expected better. I've tried turning the box a couple of different ways but didn't see any big difference in the reported signal strength.

I have a DIR-825 router connected to my cable modem. The 2.4ghz constantly goes down but not the 5.0ghz. Our wireless devices will see the connection but we are unable to connect. We only have one device that uses the 5.0 and multiple devices that use the 2.4 and none of them can connect.I am currently running firmware 2.02. I also notice that the time changes and I have to reset the time/date.I have tried rebooting the device, resetting the router, changing the network key, updated the time/date, renewed the DHCP...I don't know why it keeps going down, why the time/date keeps changing, and why I cannot get the 2.4 working.

Wired works normally, and wireless is otherwise stable, except when under heavy load. E.g. if I initiate a large TimeMachine backup over wifi to my NAS, it will fail and the wifi will drop requiring a power cycle.I have tried a similar transfer over ethernet (~1.7Tb) and although the transfer speed wasn't great (~10MBs, likely due to NAS drive bottleneck), it completed without a problem.
If I try copying ~150Gb over wifi, however, it barely lasts 30 minutes without dropping out.Once the wifi drops, it still connects, but nothing works (I am unable to even connect to the web interface using the local IP). Other devices connected already via ethernet or 2.5Ghz still function normally, but the 5Ghz just fails, and if I try initiating a new connection to the 2.5Ghz it doesn't work until I power-cycle the router. As far as overheating goes, I'm not sure it is an environmental issue... I have the router standing upright in an open space so there is good airflow around it.

I Recently purchased the DAP1522 to use as an entertainment bridge for my xbox 360, BR player and dish network receiver I also upgraded my router a WRT5GS running tomato to a Linksys E4200 going from G to N while i had my Xbox and BR connected wireless I didn't have the Dish receiver hooked up so i thought by using the DAP i would be upgrading my network and connecting my Dish receiver no brainier right and everything works so far.But here's the question with all the hype of the benefits of the 5ghz channel , well it's not hype it certainly makes sense but from what I see the products have to be compatible shouldn't what I'm connecting be compatible they say your gaming console specifically and streaming movies i would think . Any configuration tips I read somewhere that with an E3200 router they had to set the 5ghz channel to like 37 for the DAP to see that channel its all getting a little overwhelming here's whats in the house A Mac Power PC pre Intel using a Asus NB13 USB 2.4ghz its the only thing i could find with speeds over 100Mbps A windows 7 machine hardwired gig connection another windows 7 pc downstairs hardwired a netbook with a wireless connection and lastly a DECT 6.0 phone system who knows what interference these produce.

In the old days I used two autonomous 1242AG access access points to create a 5GHz PtP link with 2 patch antennas (over small distance 50meters and on on private premises) to connect an small building or garage were there was no ethernet availible. and used the 2.4GHz radio to serve clients in the small building area, worked great.
Can I use the same setup with the 2602e access points? If so, would I be able to use them controller based? Can I connect a switch/or additional access point behind the 2602e (bridge) in the small building/garage? Would that addtitional access point be able to connect and register to the WLC.

I recently modified my home network in hopes of getting faster file transfers between devices. But it looks like something's not right.I'm suing Lan Speed Test and the best performance I get over WiFi is about 44Mbps (avg.). From my laptop to my NAS. If i turn off the WiFi and do the test over a wired connection the best I get is 200Mbps (avg.).
1. AT&T 2Wire cable modem. Internet comes in the house through this box and it's currently set up to be in bridge mode so that the TPLink router handles everything.
2. TP-Link WDR3600 gigabit/wireless router set to work in 5Ghz only, 11an mixed mode.
3. WD My Book Network Storage. Wired gigabit connection.
4. Desktop PC. Wired gigabit connection.
5. Laptop PC. Wireless.
6. 1 ipad v.2, 2 iphone v.5. Wireless.
Current setup:
1. internet cable goes into 2Wire Modem.Wireless on this device is OFF.
2. cable goes from LAN port on modem to WDR3600 router's internet port
3. cables go out from router to Desktop PC and NAS
4. all other devices are connected to the 5GHz wireless network created by the router.

Router has been reset after being updated to latest firmware and tried different configurations but im not satisfied with the signal range. Is there something i can do.

I just upgraded my in-laws network from a WRT54G to a E4200. It's working but I'm getting issues with the 5Ghz end. I've got both SSIDs using different names.. so its clear which I'm connecting to. I have a macbook pro which has N support and can see the 5GHz SSID.The issue I get is that when I connect to the 5Ghz SSID, the laptop cannot ping or connect to LAN clients on the 2.4GHz end. This includes SMB shares, a couple of devices with web interfaces and one machine running a VNC server. There is also issues with Internet access.. but only sometimes.
Say I have two terminals open.. one pinging Google and the other pinging one of the 2.4Ghz clients. If I connect to the 2.4Ghz SSID, I get both pings working fine. If I switch to the 5GHz SSID, the macbook gets its IP address but then the Google ping will work but the internal ping just keeps failing. The Internet issue.. looking back on the above example.. sometimes the Google ping will also fail. The mac also sometimes indicates that there is no Internet connection behind the wireless connection when this happens.
When I connect on the 5Ghz SSID, I get my LAN IP address from the router (ifconfig). I can also see the /etc / resolve.conf correctly populated on the macbook with thge gateway and DNS settings. For now, I'm just going to get them to only use the 2.4Ghz SSID and assume that a later release of the softeware will fix things.. it could be a compliance issue on the Apple/Cisco N support.

I have an AP541N-A-K9. For the past couple weeks it stops work at 5:00pm. The clients can see the SSID but when they connect it fails. The only way to get this to work again, is to set the radio to 5GHz 802.11N. Setting the radio to anything else does not allow the clients to connect.
I have some older clients so I need this broadcast G as well.
I have upgrade the software to AP541N-K9-2.0(1). Does not make a difference. Reset to Factory defaulst and reconfig does not make a difference. There are no Rouge AP's in the area.
Between the issues these have passing DHCP from a Windows server and now this, I'm thinking these devices are not fully baked.

I have had trouble with my DIR-651 router since i bought it. To put it simply, if there a device connected to the wireless network, no other device can connect. Here are the devices i have:
hp pavilion running fedora 15
hp touchpad (webos)
htc thunderbolt (android)
dell inspiron (? work computer..not here right now) running windows xp
I am running wpa 2 using AES encryption in wireless mixed b/g/n mode (I have tried all other permutations of BGN. On the devices that will let me see error logs, all i get is "authentication invalid" errors.) In a few rare cases, i am able to get a second device connected by disabling the first device, connecting second, and reconnecting first.I am running the newest firmware 1.10NA.

When I go into the Network Settings, and the end of the page I find a list named "Number of Dynamic DHCP clients: 7". As far as I know, I should only see 4, all 4 laptops; however, I see 2 UNKNOWN entries in this list, and one name "Macondo". Each of these entries have an option (a link) saying "Revoke" and other "Reserve". I am just wonder if these entries are intruders in my home network. What should I do? I am afraid to break my internet connection. By the way, I set up every single one of my family 4 laptops at home with a WPA-PSK using a very long key.

I've just discovered this thing in Windows Event log. The DHCP-Client log is full with this: the client received a NAK from the DHCP Server. Strangely, they still get the desired IP address. (Which are reserved adresses for the MAC adresses.)So I've looked at the logs in the DIR-615 (rev.D, FW: 4.13), and found this:

We are a small business with about 9 Macbook pros and 3 PC's connected wirelessly to the router. The Mac-computers sometimes lose their wifi-connection to the router. When this happens they have to select the wifi network again from the menu, to reestablish their internet connection. For some of the clients, this happens about once each day and for others multiple times a day. The problem doesn't seem to appear on the PC's.
I have tried to solve the problem by making DHCP reservations for each computers MAC-address, but with no luck. I also tried to set the 802.11 Mode to 'Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g', and turning WISH off. I read that the connection can be disturbed, if other wifi-networks in the area uses the same channel, so I changed it to channel 3, based on a scan of the network, where 3 appeared to be the least used. The WPA Mode is set to 'WPA-2 Only' and Cipher type is 'TKIP and AES'
The Dir-655 is hardware version B1 and the firmware is 2.0.

There were 6 computers on the 2.4GHz band, and 2 on the 5GHz.Everytime the people on the 2.4GHz band would get disconnected for no reason, but this router should be able to handle that number easily. After lots of fiddling, like telling people to shut down their phones WiFi, I finally found the culprit:
N and G mixed mode
Even with only Wireless-N devices there would be problems. N-only mode worked well. That is unpractical for me as there are some devices here that are still on Wireless-G, like game consoles and some phones.

But NOT from a wlan to wlan or a lan to wlan. I allready diabled WMM and tried some other wlan settings, like disable one channel, changing the channel width etc.

We are trying to use a TL-WR941ND purchased about a month ago, but it keeps hanging, usually within a day or so of operation. To be clear: by "hanging" I mean the device stops providing wireless services (its SSID is no longer visible in WiFi clients) and becomes nonresponsive to pings or control access attempts (via settings web page) from the internal network connections. The device is used in a very simple scenario, where it's being employed as a simple access point, not as a router. As such, the device's configuration is as follows:
* WAN interface is configured with a dummy static IP (10.10.10.10/24) with gateway and DNS set to the internal IP address of the actual routing device connected to the external world.
* LAN interface is configured with an IP address inside the actual internal IP subnet (192.168.1.0/24).
* DHCP is also disabled as this service is already provided.
* Wireless settings: radio enabled, SSID broadcast enabled, WDS disabled, 11bgn mixed mode, auto channel width, max TX rate, channel 7 (manually set). Using WPA-PSK security.
Rest of the settings are unchanged from their default values, as the device isn't being used as an IP router by any client - just as a WiFi/Ethernet layer 2 bridge. We're using what appears to be TP-Link's latest stock firmware for the device. The settings described above appear to provide the connectivity required by the WiFi clients. However, the device continuously hangs within a day or so of operation, requiring someone to physically attend to the device and cold-restarting it (disconnecting it from power and reconnecting it) to regain an operational state.
After performing a cold restart, the system log shows nothing beyond the startup entries: "System started" entry followed by security info entries regarding enabled protocols. Then the device appears to work well for a while, until it hangs again, forcing again someone to attend to the device, etc.
