I run a DIR-825 as an access point on my home network and I upgraded the firmware from 2.03Na to 2.05NA and it looks like it was a poor flash. Orange Amber power light, no wireless radios, unable to access it via its configured ip or default (192.168.0.1). It will not respond to pings, give arps, or obviously the web browser session.Is there any way to reflash these things manually or do I have to send it in?
View 2 RepliesI recently bought a dlink 825 and it seems right out of the box the wired internet connection seems very poor. Wireless works fine but it on wired the router refuses to download any files larger than 300kb. Images won't load, files won't downloads, etc. I've swapped cables, tried two different computers, hard reset, loaded the 3.01 firmware and nothing seems to work. I went back to my old router and it works fine. I am able to transfer from computer to computer okay with the 825,The cable modem is a SA dpc2100.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a D-Link DWA 510 and it's been perfectly fine, no hassles. Until about a week ago. Since then, not a lot has changed in my computer except for a new PSU/CPU and Keyboard and Mouse. Nothing has changed about the router, it's just the card that's messing up.

Rolling Back
Changing PCI card position
I'm up for trying many things. I just want some reliability until Saturday/Sunday when I buy my new card.
I have a DSL connection with AT&T. It is rated at 6Mbps / 768Kbps, but it closer to 4Mbps / 600Kbps. I have a speed stream 5360 connected to the DIR655. Devices on my network are primarily wireless and include; several laptops, a desktop (which is wireless n), a couple phones / Ipods and a Wii that I watch Netflix on.
I do a lot of Photography and a handful of video work, and backup / share everything online. When I am uploading photos, even with "conserve bandwidth" turned on in the uploading application, browsing sites is very slow, but reasonably functional. If I try to upload a video to YouTube, I can barely manage to do anything else the entire time it is uploading. I've tried to plan and run all my uploads overnight, but then Netflix is unusable when I want to watch it at night.
I've tried several different things, first off, with getting the Wii to function for Netflix, I turned on the QOS engine, for the IP that is assigned to it, and set it to priority 1 for all ports. I also have a entry in the QOS engine for SSH on port 23 with a priority of 10 because of how laggy my SSH sessions are. I do not have any other entries in the QOS engine, is that a problem? Should there be entries that cover other services and assign them a lower priority?
I have enable traffic shaping and Automatic uplink speed turned on. It measured the uplink speed at 695kbps, which is pretty accurate. I have Automatic Classification off, and Dynamic Fragmentation on. WISH is enabled also. I'm set to mixed n, g, and b, I'm not positive, but I do think my older laptops only use wireless b.
Even more importantly than the Netflix would be to allow me to use the Internet in a functional manner while I am uploading, that would solve a lot of problems. It seems that the uploads just hog every last bit of upload bandwidth and don't want to make room for even the small requests that one needs to send to view a web page.
I replaced a Dir-655 at a coffee shop, with a new dir-655 a few weeks ago. They keep calling and saying that Windows clients are not working and that Mac clients do.My first thought is that they are overloading the router but I would think that all computers would have problems not just the Windows computers. could the router be so bogged down that it takes to long for DHCP request for windows computers assigning the IP twice?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried 2 DIR-655 routers now, revision B1, firmware versions 2.04, 2.07, 2.08beta and a number of laptops and wireless mini pci-e nics and I simply CAN'T get faster than about 10 megabytes/sec transfer speed from a wireless laptop to a wired gigabit desktop.
Is this just simply a limitation of these routers? Can they simply not transfer data at decent speeds? I've seen real world transfer speeds near 12 megabytes/sec on a DIR-615 and I assumed the limiting factor there was the 100megabit wired connection.

A few days ago I received my DIR-655 I ordered off Amazon and hooked it up. There were no problems the first day after initial setup. The next day I noticed that I was losing internet connection even though the wifi indicator on my laptop said otherwise. This happens for about 5 minutes at a time and on other devices such as my desktop and my iPad. And I hopped on Call of Duty last night and played a competition with some friends and gave everyone 4bar connection. Later that night, I was playing some more and people that connected to me received 1bar connection and I got that in return on their connection. I feel that the router isn't working with my devices right?

No matter what I try, the signal strength never gets better that 30%, even when I have my laptop next to the router. I have tried various settings (found in these forums), but nothing seem to work. My old D-Link performed better, both close and over distances.

Trying to copy the system image file from the sup-bootflash to a new 64MB ATA flash card. Yes the software can support the 64MB card.
The ATA flash card was formated successfully, however I cannot copy the system image to it so that it can boot after a power loss.
The command I tried was: console(enabled) copy sup-bootflash: slot0:
The source filename was typed in as shown in the Show Verison command.The result was: Error opening slot0: no such device.I suspect that I am missing something obvious as I am new to Cisco Switches.
I recently updated my firmware to dd-wrt... now I would like to switch back to stock firmware. I don't like the fact that any change I make basically resets the router. Plus DD-WRT GUI is VERY slow for me?I've followed every tutorial on how to do this, but the router will not accept the stock firmware. I've gotten the image to upload (according to the browser), but at 100% the flashing orange light & globe light just continue to blink & do nothing. I never see the other lights "flash" confirming the upgrade has took. I've set my IP manually through "Network Connections>Properties>TCP/IPv4" before trying. I get to the emergency firmware page...set it upload Version A1. Sometimes it uploads...but like I said, it never takes.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have a DIR-615 D4 (Original firmware V1.00VG), I tried to install DD-WRT using all the guides online and here, but no matter what i do, the router does not seem to successfully complete the flash?
- successfully entered emergency room
- uploaded the bin file
- power light turns off (but link to machine light still on)
- left it for a good 10 mins to be sure, and still no life out of it
- power cycled and router goes back to emergency room
So i then tried to revert back to the V1.00VG;
- uploaded bin file
- power light stops flashing and stays on solidly (link to machine still green)

I hope that we can get this DIR-825 back from the dead. I did the first portion of the 2.05NA upgrade while wired into LAN1 on the unit, after the reboot the power light went Amber and the unit would no longer respond to pings. I have searched around for various reset methods but have not been able to find a guide or a definitive current D-Link tech manual on how to fix a bad flash. I have tried pinging/arping/web browsing its default IP and the IP I had it set to to no avail.

During that time wireless connections were unresponsive. When they went back to normal I checked the router and it didn't reboot or anything. Netflix works decent most of the time, buffering occasionally but Youtube buffers all the time and is not watchable. Using a Netgear WGT624 b/g router located some 60 feet away a half floor upstairs. Internet downstream speed is about 5.5 Mbps on the hard wired main computer and laptops show the same speed when connected wirelessly. Wireless Network Connection Status on a laptop close to the TV show "Very Good to Good" signal strength and Speed at 11 Mbps. Why is the Yotube connection so poor on the TV? The Netflix could be better too. Laptop by the TV streams Neflix and Yotube fine but of course that is not HD. Do I need an upgraded router or powerline network adapter?

I have run the speedtest.net on a good chunk of their computer and they all get around 40 mb/s while I am getting 2 mb/s. I have figured out that when I go in and change my MAC Address, I am able to get the same speed that they do for a short amount of time, but after a while(I haven't figured out a time interval) my speeds go back to the 2 mb/s. I can then go back in and change the address again and the same thing happens. I thought I might have a virus, but the different scan that I have tried running show nothing and when I do netstat from the command prompt, nothing abnormal shows up.

What are peoples experiences. would something like that increase ps3 signal? would 200mbps or 500mbps be better (they do diffferent models). View 2 Replies View RelatedI had an old Belkin wireless USB adapter that I used with it for the first few days, but I got tired of the slow speeds that I had always known to be associated with that card. So today I went and bought a CISCO PLEK400 powerline networking adapater. Brought it home, plugged it in to my router in my living room, plugged it into my PC in my bedroom, gave it a quick little test drive. First I went to speakeasy to test the up/down speed. Never more than 1.5Mbps down/1Mbps up. My laptop, running wirelessly through the same router, generally hits 20Mbps down and ~2Mbps up. So I plugged the ethernet cable into my laptop, to see if maybe it was the network card in my desktop that was faulty. Speakeasy speed test showed 1.5down/1up wired for laptop as well. Pinging google through command prompt, on either laptop OR desktop while wired, nets a ~300ms response time.

If I use an un managed site com (plastic ****) I get about 50MB/s transfers, with sg-200-08 I can't get over 12/13 MBs transfers.
I've tried to set on both server and client MTU = 1492 and I've changed firmware from 1.0.3.3 to 1.0.5.1 (I've not tested 1.0.6 because of some posts here regarding udp problems).
I run my virgin broadband through an old NTL modem and a Belkin router. I haveit all attached to a computer in my study along with a new 6TB Buffalo Nas drive. The computer has GIGABIT LAN. I use Belkin powerline units to relay the network around the house. In my lounge i have a blu ray player, AV amp and my sky box attached to the network via the Belkin powerline units and all run ok. This week i have added a Cambridge audio streamer but i am suffering now from a lot of dropouts and network failures escpecially when trying to stream music from my NAS. all seem to be set up correctly as per the manuals. I have spent a lot on this unit specificallly to stream my music so this is really important to get working correctly The powerline units can flash blue (fast ) or orange (slower) but i only see the orange light .My local dealer says i need to upgrade my Modem/Router and has suggested an ASUS RT-N66U which I understand is a modern 2.5/5ghz model . he says my system is overloaded

Is this a suitable modem for me to use on my Virgin cable broadband? (apparently there are two alternatives types of modem/router)

Am running WIN 7 64 BIT and have today installed a BT Home Hub 3. WiFi signal is very poor. (1 1/2 bars only) Have Belkin Wireless G Card in computer and previously used it with Netgear DG834G router with very good signal strength.Do I now need to disable the Belkin card in order for the BT Hub to produce a decent signal?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo recently I've gotten a new laptop, but now when I try to connect to out wireless internet from my room it has an extremely weak signal and will constantly suffer from constant disconnects and spikes in latency. Occasionally it causes web pages to load incorrectly and makes games unplayable when they were fine before and videos will take a long time to load. The new laptop has a different network adapter ( Intel Centrino Advanced-M 6235 ) and has Windows 8 installed instead of Windows 7 like my old laptop had. The problem happened both when using my router at my house and one at my friend's house which uses an entirely different router. The problem seems with my laptop and not specific to any one router.When trying to ping google.com it will usually stay at around 31ms but will occaisonally jump to around something much higher like 300ms or so for a few pings then go back to normal. If trying to do something like playing a game then it can start shooting all the way up to over 1000-2000 and will sometimes just have the request time out. [code]
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 routers the first is plugged into the telephone line and has a power-line adapter plugged into it the second router which is downstairs is just to extend the range,unfortunately I have a very poor connection (wireless) and internet often drops out. I want to reset the power-line adapter but but will this mean that the connection will be lost from the second router and it is just my computer that is wrong? My trouble is that I don't think the power-line adapter is working but it might be or... its just that the they both connect between each other wirelessly? Or do they both connect to each other wirelessly? both connections from each router are pretty poor. I have updated my wireless card as well. I am not resetting the power line adapter until I know the internet is going to be fine afterwards as my Dad needs it for his work
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless router on the ground floor of my home which is wired to my PC on the 3rd floor. The wifi signal is of poor quality on the 3rd floor. I cannot move the router to a different floor since all of my connections are wired through the home into my networking room (on the ground floor where my router is). I wish to add a media receiver to a different room on the 3rd floor that is not wired already for networking. Streaming video files wirelessly to the media receiver from my router will not work because as stated previously the signal quality is poor on the 3rd floor. My mobo on my computer has ASUS wifi GO. Can I enable the wifi go on the mobo of my PC (located on 3rd floor) to connect to the media receiver (also on the 3rd floor) for streaming? The media receiver will also have an internet browser so will I be able to connect to the internet as well if it is networked to my PC and my PC is connected to my router on the ground floor?
I basically want to keep my PC connected to my main router for high DL speeds and also have my PC networked wirelessly to my media receiver using the on board wifi go. If possible I'd also like to be able to access the internet on the media receiver via the PC.
I have purchased two WAP200 units to act as access point and repeater. AP and repeater functionality works fine.
The issue I am having is extremely poor signal from both units. Even when very close to the WAP200, I get poor signal quality. The range before loosing connection is only a few feet.
I'm using the antennas that came with the box and have tried multiple placements both in my house and in other locations. I have also tried changing several of the configurations without any effect on the signal strength. Older D-link and Linksys routers provide good reception to most of my house from the same location.
i have a 541N running the latest firmware 2.0.2.It has 3 SSIDs for the 3 vlans that it has.I have configured b/g/n.The power is fullIt is powered via POE.The end customer tells me that the range it covers is very very small!Comparing to traditional low budget APs the power is very very low.It does not cover 30-40m in free space where other APs do.Do i need to configure something more in the radio settings?

The issue -I have suddenly started to get performance issues with downloads and access through the ZBF. Without the firewall enabled and just having NAT enabled and routing , downloads perform as expected - ( have been using Itunes download as test file ) - with the ZBF enabled , and the necessary rules installed to inspect & allow traffic - downloads stall - and the only way to get the downlaod to start again is to pause , then resume. The stalls are anything between the first 25 - 120 secs.
I have debugged and performed packet traces - but cant see anything untoward. I have also placed another router ( just a cheap Belkin ) on the ADSL service and again , the downloads work as expected.
one further thing to add is that when im tunneling through the firewall ( VPN ) , then downloads do work as expected - suggesting that the issue is with native HTTP(s) traffic.
I have upgraded from T4 to T5 - and the symptons still remain - I am thinking that these may have been introduced when i upgraded to T4 a few monthes ago.
Wireless reception became poor after recent Windows 7 updates.Can't find recent windows 7 64 bit driver for this card.

When I'm in my office where the router is set up, I'm getting around 15 to 20 mb download speed and 5+ upload speed. When I go to my living room about 40 feet away my speed drops to 1mb down and less than 1 up. I expect to see a drop in my performance the further away I get from the router, but this seems really unacceptable to me.

Distance to the router is irrelevant, 5 metres or 0,5 metres - all the same/I tried different frequencies, 20 and 40 mhz bandwidth, no result as well.I know that 150mbps is just theoretical but 20mbps is 13% of the N standard, that's not what I expected from linksys.Firmware version is V1.00.12, all the advanced wireless settings are set to default. I tried different values but they make no difference at all.

I found out that Linksys had changed their default IP address on their routers since I installed my previous router, a Linksys also. So I had to used their setup utility to configure the new router. Thats when I found the change in the IP address. The Linksys setup utility is not the most friendly user setup utility.Finally got the new router setup. I went to bed and when I went to check today's weather forecast I found that the new router's WIFI signal strength was much lower than my old router. Ended up re-installing my old router. I can't return the new router now because I threw out the box for the router. Guess it will sit on the shelf as a spare if needed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a linksys router WAG 120n and when using wireless if I move into the next room the signal strength goes down to 40% there is only one single wall in between the room and the router. I have upgraded the firmware to the latest version turned off other electrical devices changed the wireless channels but none of this has worked. Any more settings I can try to get the signal stronger, I really don't want to return the router unless completely necessary.
