DGL-4300 / Getting Wireless Boost In Specific Section Of House?

Mar 1, 2011

My parents house is basically an old ranch style home that was added on to with a 2 story + basement. So I can only guess at the materials between where the signal is weak and where I have installed a DGL-4300 (Dlink Wired and Wireless gigabit router). It resides in the basement which is directly under the 2 story part of the house and everything on any floor of that section seems to get a good signal.

Admittedly I haven't done a lot of extensive testing since I really don't have much stuff that has wireless connectivity, and the one laptop they have is fairly stationary sitting right on top of the wireless router 2 floors up.....signal strength is always good to it.

However the older section of the house gets a pretty weak wireless signal and now with everything being wifi ready I am going to see about solving it. For instance, I've had a hell of a time connecting an older Zune 2.0 8gb version to the wireless network anywhere in the house, I just assumed it was broken or puking on the wireless security which is some version of WPA I can't recall atm if it's one in particular or set to both. But I temporarily disabled all security to see if it would connect and the router saw the device connect with a 20% signal strength for a bit, then the Zune started puking on connecting ..again.

I figured small device, it might even be broken. But I know the signal strength to the older section is not going to be very stellar anyway because the signal on a direct path has to pass through concrete walls and then a concrete foundation......plus it has cordless phone systems to compete against in that same space is has to travel. And anything the kitchen appliances and such might be interfering with it since it's potentially in the way as well.

So, any low cost solution (less than $50 dollars) I can hook into the existing wired network and will play nice with the existing Dlink router as it's going to remain the boss since it was fairly costly and works fine. To work as an extension of the same wireless network.....

I really don't have a problem with updating firmware, connecting into the device to configure it...or even putting new software on it if the directions are decent. The only thing I really care about is that it is cheap, has the capability to fit my bill. I'd guess it'd need to cover a 50 foot circular span with a strong signal and maybe 75 feet out with a medium strength to make sure there's no too weak spots or close up any potential dead spots due to materials used in construction. Oh and it has to be very stable or be pretty stable and have a remote reboot that'll clear up issues, I used to have a linksys router I had to reboot probably once a week to keep it working but it had to be power cycled. It was in the basement, near the patch panel the house has and it got old enough that I got the Dlink to replace it even though it was still functioned besides the freezing/sluggish performance issues requiring power cycles.

DGL-4300 Can't Stream HD Wireless

Sep 8, 2012

Time for me to update my router. I have been using a Dlink DGL-4300 for 8 years now and never had a problem with it until now. It can't stream HD wirelessly, so I need to get an N router. What's the cream of the crop these days?

I was thinking of going with the DIR-825 or the DIR-835. How have Dlink's router quality faired over the past few years?

DGL 4300 Wireless Needs Reset Often?

Aug 24, 2012

I have the latest firmware 1.9 I think. Periodically (every other day) nothing can connect to the wireless. I have to power down the device (which usually means the whole network cabinet since that is easiest then flip it back on.) I don't know if this is part of the problem but I have 5 wireless devices that try to connect depending on the time of day. However once this happens none can connect.

The DNS host name that I entered into the DNS Host name section is not resolved. If I remove the DNS name and leave the virtual ip address 1.1.1.1 then it works fine but just comes back with untrusted message.

I thought this was "wireless router 101" - since my last three routers had this feature... apparently not with TP-Link.

Tp-link Dual-band Wireless :: Tl-wdr4300 4300 Refuses To Use Two 2.4ghz For Wifi

Mar 28, 2013

Region : Australia
Model : TL-WDR4300
Hardware Version : V1
Firmware Version : 3.13.23 Build 121225 Rel.37950n
ISP : Optus

I note that my 4300 never uses two channels in 2.4 GHz wireless n mode as reported by Inssider. I can see a few other routers on Inssider, one of which uses channel 11+7 ALL the time, though it's not a TP-Link router. Mine sometimes will connect to two channels, thus enabling 300 Mbps, but then quickly drops to 1 channel. I believe this is a firmware fault as I only have 3 or 4 routers in the area of my house and I can't believe this would generate sufficient interference to force the router to run at a lower speed. If the router does behave this way by design, then TP-Link should stop advertising it as a 300 Mbps router as it will almost never operate at that speed.

Boost Wireless Range By Adding 2nd Router

Mar 31, 2013

I purchased a 2nd router to boost my wireless range.in order to set this up, is all I have to do is set router 2 outside the range of the DHCP and turn OFF DHCP on router 2. Then I can successfully connect the two routers and if I am upstairs use router1 and downstairs use router2 wireless signal?What would be the pros/cons of using the same SSID? I know one benefit would be not having to set-up each device to connect to the new network name of router 2, but IDK what problems this could ensue. One immediate problem I can think of is if a device could not connect I wouldn't know which router (router1 or router2) the device was unable to connect to immediately.

Cisco :: Devices Not Showing In Section Of LMS 4.2 Reports?

Jun 9, 2013

We had an existing installation of LMS 4.1 which seemed to have worked fine with the exception that it was giving problems with logging Syslog events. We tried everything to resolve it and then we found a link on this very site that explained that there was a bug in displaying Syslog events on LMS 4.1. It is important to state that we would get a few Syslog events but the rest were either filtered or discarded.As per the bug toolkit, we realized that we had to upgrade to LMS 4.2 to have the bug resolved. This was not a problem and we installed LMS 4.2 as a direct upgrade to LMS 4.1. We backed up our existing data and the installation process migrated everythin automatically.Now, LMS 4.2 is installed and our objective of having Syslog messages are being received regularly as we wanted.unfortunately, when we try to generate a report such as "Detailed Device" report and try to select All Devices from the Device Selector menu, we do not see any of our devices. However, we do find our devices listed under User-Defined Groups -> (Our DCR). Based on this, we can generate reports and everything is fine.Yet, we are doing this for a client of ours and they expect to see these devices listed in the "All Devices" section of the device selector. Apart from that, everything seems to be working fine.

Cisco Wireless :: SRP541W Router - Boost Wi-Fi Signal?

Oct 22, 2012

I used to have a DLINK router which covered my whole house with its Wifi signal. After upgrading to the SRP541W router, only the very close vicinity of the router has any acceptable level of signal to use devices. I seriously need to improve WIFI range to accomodate my small business. I asked the Live chat technician and the answer was "This device does not support external antennae" and then silence. Okay it is not supported but what I am looking for is a solution, not a dead end.

For example, is there a cisco repeater/extender that I could deploy that works with the SRP541W router? Any experience adding one long cable and putting one antenna at a different location of the house?

DGL-4300 Cannot Actually Connect To Network Even Though Pick Up Signal

Dec 27, 2011

I've had a D-Link DGL-4300 for the past four years now (at least) and in the past month, the WiFi signal it sends out just isn't 'good'. What I mean is, the first time this happened in November, one day all the WiFi enabled devices in my home were connecting just fine. Then quite literally the next day, each device detected a signal in the area, yet they simply couldn't connect. I've refreshed each device (iPhone, laptops, consoles) yet they cannot actually connect to the network even though they pick up the signal.

At first I reset the router and that seemed to work, but only for a day or two before the problem started up again. So then I upgraded to the last (and latest) firmware D-Link has on their site and it looked like the problem was solved for good. But unfortunately, this has started again in the last couple of days. D-Link doesn't provide any tech support for my router because it was discontinued in 2009 so I'm stuck.

Routers / Switches :: Rate Limit On Specific Port From Specific Range?

Jul 1, 2012

Is it possible to enable an absolute value rate limit using QOS on a HP ProCurve 5406 switch for a particular IP range on a specific port? Is there a way to configure our HP 5406 with an absolute rate limit on "WAN" port for that server's IP range? I would like to limit it to only being capable of sending 1Mbps worth of traffic over the head end at once.Everything in the documentation points towards priority queues, which as far as I can tell, isn't really what I want.Baring accomplishing this goal using rate limiting is there a better way to prevent our services from accidentally saturating this connection?i thimkong about somthing like that:

class ipv4 rate-limit-port-A1
match ip 10.136.0.0/16 any
exit
policy qos port-a1-ratelimit
class servers-to-be-slowed action rate-limit kbps 1000
exit
interface A1 service-policy port-a1-ratelimit inI'm not sure about this.

Getting Wireless Into Other Places In The House?

Oct 23, 2011

my dad wants me to get on expanding our home network (getting wireless into other places in the house). i do consider myself pretty tech savvy ( i just built my computer from scratch) but this is a little bit beyond my comfort zone. the 4 ports on the router are keeping me tied up and the size and layout of the house are restricting the wireless range

provider: comcast cable
modem: arris TM502G (comcast provided)
router: linksys wireless-n wrt160n v3

4 pcs running windows xp to windows 7
3 laptops running xindows xp, windows 7 and windows 7 starter (netbook)
1 xbox 360
1 ps3
(looking to add netflix capable bluray players on 2 tvs in the future)

the downstairs layout (router is the star)

the upstairs (red is range of current setup thats a stretch) (blue wanted coverage)

not to scale and a quick draw the top half of the house is off set from the basement area. i used google earth to estimate the range from the router to the outside area of my wanted coverage area and its roughly 80 feet through 4 walls and the flooring i do not believe theres a single router capable of doing that without dropping some serious cash down.as is all the ports are currently tied up, and id like to expand the number of ports, along with getting wireless to the area i pointed out, i have the capability of pulling hard wire through out the house also.

Linksys Wireless Router :: How To Boost Signal Range Of WRT310N

Aug 20, 2008

How to successfully increas the signal range of the WRT310n? I live in a huge old place and the signal drops to one bar (dial-up speed) about 40 feet across the building. However, at the room before that (maybe 30 feet) my Apple Mac book gets great signal and it's no problem. I need to connect the Mac and 2 PC laptops wirelessly.I'm not sure whether to try a signal booster, set up another access point (or how to do that anyway), or what? Running a cable is unfortunately not an option.I also have a WRT300n (which was replaced this weekend with the 310n). Not sure which one really is better, but the 300n router's range didn't even make it as far as the 310n does. (There was weak signal, no active bars.) Someone suggested adding a more powerful antenna to that router instead?
