Time for me to update my router. I have been using a Dlink DGL-4300 for 8 years now and never had a problem with it until now. It can't stream HD wirelessly, so I need to get an N router. What's the cream of the crop these days?
I was thinking of going with the DIR-825 or the DIR-835. How have Dlink's router quality faired over the past few years?
I have the latest firmware 1.9 I think. Periodically (every other day) nothing can connect to the wireless. I have to power down the device (which usually means the whole network cabinet since that is easiest then flip it back on.) I don't know if this is part of the problem but I have 5 wireless devices that try to connect depending on the time of day. However once this happens none can connect.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy parents house is basically an old ranch style home that was added on to with a 2 story + basement. So I can only guess at the materials between where the signal is weak and where I have installed a DGL-4300 (Dlink Wired and Wireless gigabit router). It resides in the basement which is directly under the 2 story part of the house and everything on any floor of that section seems to get a good signal.
Admittedly I haven't done a lot of extensive testing since I really don't have much stuff that has wireless connectivity, and the one laptop they have is fairly stationary sitting right on top of the wireless router 2 floors up.....signal strength is always good to it.
However the older section of the house gets a pretty weak wireless signal and now with everything being wifi ready I am going to see about solving it. For instance, I've had a hell of a time connecting an older Zune 2.0 8gb version to the wireless network anywhere in the house, I just assumed it was broken or puking on the wireless security which is some version of WPA I can't recall atm if it's one in particular or set to both. But I temporarily disabled all security to see if it would connect and the router saw the device connect with a 20% signal strength for a bit, then the Zune started puking on connecting ..again.
I figured small device, it might even be broken. But I know the signal strength to the older section is not going to be very stellar anyway because the signal on a direct path has to pass through concrete walls and then a concrete foundation......plus it has cordless phone systems to compete against in that same space is has to travel. And anything the kitchen appliances and such might be interfering with it since it's potentially in the way as well.
So, any low cost solution (less than $50 dollars) I can hook into the existing wired network and will play nice with the existing Dlink router as it's going to remain the boss since it was fairly costly and works fine. To work as an extension of the same wireless network.....
I really don't have a problem with updating firmware, connecting into the device to configure it...or even putting new software on it if the directions are decent. The only thing I really care about is that it is cheap, has the capability to fit my bill. I'd guess it'd need to cover a 50 foot circular span with a strong signal and maybe 75 feet out with a medium strength to make sure there's no too weak spots or close up any potential dead spots due to materials used in construction. Oh and it has to be very stable or be pretty stable and have a remote reboot that'll clear up issues, I used to have a linksys router I had to reboot probably once a week to keep it working but it had to be power cycled. It was in the basement, near the patch panel the house has and it got old enough that I got the Dlink to replace it even though it was still functioned besides the freezing/sluggish performance issues requiring power cycles.

I bought the 4300 a week ago - and just recently discovered that you cannot turn off the wi-fi radio using a schedule.
I thought this was "wireless router 101" - since my last three routers had this feature... apparently not with TP-Link.

I note that my 4300 never uses two channels in 2.4 GHz wireless n mode as reported by Inssider. I can see a few other routers on Inssider, one of which uses channel 11+7 ALL the time, though it's not a TP-Link router. Mine sometimes will connect to two channels, thus enabling 300 Mbps, but then quickly drops to 1 channel. I believe this is a firmware fault as I only have 3 or 4 routers in the area of my house and I can't believe this would generate sufficient interference to force the router to run at a lower speed. If the router does behave this way by design, then TP-Link should stop advertising it as a 300 Mbps router as it will almost never operate at that speed.
Well, I've been using my DGL 4300 as a switch, but now I need to use the wireless capabilities it has. I tried going to 192.168.0.1 but it timed out. I pushed down the reset button in the back and hold it for 15 seconds, tried the IP again and nothing but timeout. I unplugged the power cable, held down the reset for 15 seconds, plugged back the power, and still nothing. I've tried various methods, various IP's, and nothing.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've had a D-Link DGL-4300 for the past four years now (at least) and in the past month, the WiFi signal it sends out just isn't 'good'. What I mean is, the first time this happened in November, one day all the WiFi enabled devices in my home were connecting just fine. Then quite literally the next day, each device detected a signal in the area, yet they simply couldn't connect. I've refreshed each device (iPhone, laptops, consoles) yet they cannot actually connect to the network even though they pick up the signal.
At first I reset the router and that seemed to work, but only for a day or two before the problem started up again. So then I upgraded to the last (and latest) firmware D-Link has on their site and it looked like the problem was solved for good. But unfortunately, this has started again in the last couple of days. D-Link doesn't provide any tech support for my router because it was discontinued in 2009 so I'm stuck.
I can't connect with my D-Link router 4300 to the modem. It's like my router doesn't recognize the internet connection of my modem because there is no available connection at all, for every single PC in my home ! When I connect a cable to my PC, it works. I can't see the problem because I can't even connect to http://192.168.0.1/. I tried many variations but nothing. It all started because I changed the WPA security to WPA2. This is a problem for me because I like to game online and a double Nat makes this difficult. I know the process of setting my modem in bridge mode but I have a few questions before I do so.
1. If I bridge my modem will this cause me to lose connection, if so then how do I get myself back online?
2. While bridging the modem does my router have to be set to any type of special configuration, if so then what do I do?
My router is a Linksys EA2700 and my modem is a Sagemcom 4300.

Is this due to hardware or is it software/firmware? My NAT and DHCP box was a windows server 2003 configured with just those roles and my pings were in the 20-30 and I could host/join games no problem and no lag, but when I play through the Dlink DGL-4300 my pings would be 70-90 and some games I had lag issues and host/ join issues, sometimes it would work sometimes not.
I am wanting to make my desktop wireless I have a D LINK dual band wireless router now. My laptop is wireless and works fine my desk top is hardwired to router. Thinking of moving my moden and router to TV and making my desktop wireless and hardwireing my media server I think it called ( still yet to be bought still doing home work on which one to get and how to hook up ) Thinking less signal loss be hardwired to media server. I now have AT&T DSL 1.5 MB upgrading to 6.0 MB to stream netflicks . Do you think 6 MB will steam OK? Should I Go with just a USB adapter or go to PCI internal Adapter? In reading some of the other post seems hit or miss on adapter seeing and working with routher. Is there a brand or type of adapte I should look at? as I said Desktop will now be wireless media hardwire dose this sound like the way to go about doing this? Any media server that seems to work better than others . not doing x box or Wii not a gamer just want to stream Netflix without buffering and as good a picture as Poss.

Do I need a software firewall? Or is the router sufficient? Is antivirus software necessary if I don't download anything? It will be part of a local LAN, so I don't want to jeopardize any of the other PCs on the home network.

I am using a Netgear N300 wireless router to stream Netflix movies to a Samsung Blu-ray player with wireless LAN. My problem is that some of the movies are not watchable because of rebuffering. Everything else works (email, Google, Facebook, etc.). I can get to Netflix, Youtube, Yahoo, etc. .....but none of them will pass video.
Using a direct wired connection to the DAP-1522 everything works. Netflix, Youtube, etc.

I have an E3000 with an external hard drive attached via USB with several movies saved on it as ISO's. How to stream a movie to my wireless blu ray player, Sony S580. I was able to stream the iso to a netbook attached to the LCD tv by using VLC on the netbook. The only videos I can access on the blu ray player that are on the external hard drive are home videos I converted to DVD quality before uploading, they're not HD. I can access pictures and music on the blu ray from the external hard drive as well. I tried converting an iso to MVK but was unable to access/find it using the blu ray player.

I have been using handbrake to convert both blu-ray and DVD movies to MP4 videos with AAC audio and I have been getting strange results. If I convert a blu-ray movie to MP4 with a DTS audio track down mixed to Dolby Pro Logic II AAC then I can play the movie and I am able to fast forward and rewind. If I convert the same movie but convert the audio in any other way, AC3 pass through etc., the video will play but I will not be able to fast forward or rewind.

On my WRT610N with firmware version 2.xxxx (latest available at this moment), I have connected a Lacie harddisk (in RAID-1) by the USB port and I have activated the mediaserver. I have connected through a wireless dongle my Samsung TV(UE46B7000) to my mediaserver.
My mediafiles are visible and can be played, however I'm not able to get my subtitles with them. I tried srt, ssa, smi, sub formats but in vain. These subtitles are stored in the same location. If however I copy the same mediafiles and subtitles directly to another external harddisk, which I connect to another USB port on the TV I can watch these mediafiles and my subtitles are also available. So my question: what do you need to do to render your subtitles visible?
I've bought a E3000 as replacement for my Linksys WRT350N router.Just upgraded the firmware to version Ver.1.0. 04 (build 6).I use aonTV - an austria IPTV service (Multicast via UDP) - an this worked with my old WRT350N (hw version 1) consistantly well. I hardly had to reboot the router to get the multicast stream.With E3000 I checked the option that it should not filter any multicast traffic - when I reboot the router it works for some time - but after some hours it does not work anymore? I want to watch TV via my HTPC connected via GigaBit Power to the E3000.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been viewing some videos streamed through the EA6500 from a Qnap 419p II NAS, and several video files are playing back extremely choppy.I can confirm that the video files play fine on the Xbox360 using a USB key and have also previously streamed these videos without any problems using a Belkin Wireless Pre-N router (that I upgraded from) streamed from the same NAS.I've attempted to configure the Media Prioritization feature, but haven't noticed any different results. I have also adjusted other various settings that haven't affected the playback in any way.
My only guess is that some of the files are encoded in a format that the router is struggling with - the video files are not HD videos, and their bitrates are generally quite low - if my old Belkin router can do it, the EA6500 shouldn't have any problems either.
At home I am using the linksys wireless bridge WET610N to stream media to my livingroom. The setup looks like server <-> Linksys E4200 <-> WET610N. If I connect my laptop to the WET610N i get a speed close to 100Mbit/s. With this speed I can easily view HD movies, by playing them on my laptop. So far so good...But if I instead connect my Popcorn Hour A-100 (a media player) , to the WET610N (instead of the laptop) I get really poor performance. just a few Mbit/s, which is not enough.So my question is, why is the following setup working fine:server <-> Linksys E4200 <-> WET610N <-> LaptopWhen at the same time the following setup is working poorly:server <-> Linksys E4200 <-> WET610N <-> Popcorn HourThe WLAN connection between the Linksys E4200 and Linksys WET610N seems to be fine. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 655 and two TVs. One is connected to my network by a Samsung 5700 Blu Ray player, and the other is connected by x box. The x box is 20 ft away from my router and the Blue Ray is about 60 away with one wall between. The x box pulls movies down and plays them no problem, and Blue Ray takes about a minute for loading the moving, will start playing but them pauses several times throughtout the movie showing the loading sign on screen.
