View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a dell Inspiron 1545, and I recently had to re-install windows Vista(SP2) onto it because of a Trojan that snuck its way onto my hard drive I only had the Installation disc for the OS, and I'd lost the driver re-install disk. I went onto the Dell website and found all the required drivers for my computer. (I used my exact service tag and express code), I downloaded all of the drivers and ran them, and everything seemed to be working fine. Shortly after re-installing all of the drivers, I noticed that I could not connect to the internet through my wireless connection. I've tried all the keyboard shortcuts to "turn on" my wireless connectivity, I've tried installing a whole number of recommended wireless card drivers, and to no avail. This is a serious problem to me, as I am very active on the internet. My Ethernet connection works fine, (that's how I'm online posting this right now), my wireless card troubles.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI reformat my old PC and installed Win XP SP3. There were no errors during installation and everything works ok. However, I'm not able to connect to the internet with my ethernet cable. The LAN connection shows 'Connected' but properties shows some packets sent but zero received. There are no antivirus program installed, windows firewall is turned off as well.
I've tried the following:
- Tried the same ethernet cable connection to another PC and I was able to get on the internet (so no ISP or router issues I assumed).
- Fix the stack using Winsock - didn't work.
- Device Manager now shows Network Adapter > Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Controller #2 (no yellow question mark). Although I had to reinstall the driver after XP installation.
- Here's the result of ipconfig/all:

I had so much old garbage and damage from old viruses I needed to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows xp from the System OS disk. Computer is up and running now, but I lost a lot of stuff, including my ability to connect to the internet and some drivers. I have cable internet. I downloaded Broadcom advanced control suite and the netxtreme 57xx drivers from the Broadcom site, and installed them with the provided download manager. Nothing seems to be working, the control suite says "No active broadcom network adapters detected in this system"....
note- I've been downloading to a different computer and burning the files to CD, and transferring them to the Dell that way...
I was also struggling with locale area net work.. When i have installed fresh window into my PC. The Locale area plugen showing but no internet conection found. I have restart my PC couple of times while sitting my different internet provider connections. Alteas i have reinstall my window xp so i guess may be its my window problem it have missing some files.

That should be written on the back of my router (model WRT300N), a barcode with 8 numbers. I can't find that code. I tried to use the network setup wizard to create an internet connection via a cable plugged into back of pc but the wizard says that it can not detect network hardware. I believe the network card is built into the Motherboard. I tried to isntall drivers from the Dell Cd that came with the system but it fails to detect a modem. My system is a Dell dimension 5150?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI had lost power to my apartment and when everything came back on everything was working as normal...until about an hour later when my internet connection was sporadic at best. I called the ISP and they confirmed that the modem is fine. My other computers can connect to it via ethernet cable and wifi so it doesn't appear to be the router.
When I try to ping anything it seems to time out randomly.. (ran "ping Yahoo! -t1" and let it go for a while..times out every 10 requests or so).
I swapped out the ethernet cable but the LEDs on the NIC are Orange(Amber) for both cables. The wifi on the computer works fine. I reinstalled the driver for the NIC.

In this network I have a windows XP computer wirelessly connected to the router and a networked disk drive wired to the router through a netgear switch.I am trying to move a lot of files from the XP computer to the networked drive.Everything works great as it will move files for as long as everything is up and running. As soon as I attempt to change the status of the modem from on-line to off-line with the push button on top of the modem, my XP computer loses connection to the networked drive.Why is this happening? I would think the xp computer and network drive are below the modem inside the network so losing the internet connection from the modem should only affect the internet connection

I'm assuming it's some sort of virus or something...I ran McAfee and it found nothing. When I tried connecting yesterday, it gave me all kinds of different reasons why it wasn't connecting when I diagnosed it. View 14 Replies View RelatedI was trying to browse the internet earlier, and I randomly just lost my internet connection. My homepage loaded up just fine, but then I tried to go to another site. It was taking a while to load. After about a minute a page finally came up that said "Server not found" (I use firefox). I can't get on any websites now and I can't get internet on any of my wireless devices either. When I right clicked my network icon on the toolbar and clicked on diagnose and repair it said "There may be a problem with the DNS. Windows attempted to find the well known host www.microsoft.com using dns. The server responded that the name was unknown." I have Windows Vista. Now I have no idea what I could have done. I didn't do anything out of the normal, just tried to go to a website that I frequently visit with no problems and this happened. This is what I get when I type ipconfig/all in cmd prompt. [code]
View 14 Replies View Relatedrecently I have been using my laptop downstairs where the router is in the same room, and now, when I attempt to connect to the network in my bedroom it connects for maybe a few seconds and indicates an average connection and I can also see other available networks before suddenly all connectivity is lost, I can't even see other available networks. Previously I would be able to get strong signal in my bedroom and I was able to use the internet without any fault.I have tested a family member's laptop in my bedroom, and theirs seems to be working just fine in my room. I can only use my laptop downstairs now and I need to know if this is a fault with my laptop's network adapter or if it's a problem with connection between my laptop and the router.

So, I know I have internet, as I am writing this now. But for some reason, that computer is now telling me I lost the internet connection. Network A configuration use like Primary ACS-SJM and ACS-GLX like a secondary for network B configuration use like Primary ACS-GLX and ACS-SJM like a secondary. My solution was working fine about one year ago. but one week ago isn´t working fine. The problem my ACS-SJM lost connectión and user can´t authenticated when the user trye to connect to ACS-GLX either can´t connect. I have to shutdown the ACS-SJM that way can authenticate to the ACS-GLX. I check the log and I didn´t find anything I check the switch.. too where the ACS is connected. but didn´t find anything too.

so I work with a debt consolidating company. We have about 300+ users, and som of the issues I get are network issues from random users. The issue is that there is a lost in connection and they are completely disconnected from the network. I look at the port number labeled at their cubicle and check the switch they are connected too and this is what I see on the switch. Which by the way is a dell PowerConnect 3548 switch.URL
After removing from those ports and placing the patch cable into another port it works normally. But after a few days this issue returns only to find it with a different user.
I have the netgear wndr4500 setup on my home theater shelves which are located in the corner of the room. When using my ASus G74sx with the Atheros 9002 wifi I consistently get disconnected. The wifi connection is lost and needs to be re-established.
Interestingly, when I am using the laptop downstairs the disconnects never happen. I have pored over my router's settings, updated to the latest firmware, as well as installed the latest drivers on the laptop. I also tried setting the router to short preamble and changing the channels to 11and automatic.
My problem: Shared network drive (folder), when accessed over wireless from more than 1 PC (2 or 3) simultaneously, drops everywhere with a "The specified network name is no longer available" (in Windows Explorer), or "File cannot be read" (in a program). And I don't mean accessing the same file; yes, the files I've tried with are in the same folder, but when the connection is lost a)one client is streaming video from one file and b)another client is copying over some other file to the same folder. It even happens, for example, when one client is transferring a file, and another tries to list the folder. The connection for the file transfer is immediately lost.
My setup: Home network. 4 clients (3 laptops - 2 running XP and one running windows 7, and a desktop, running windows XP). 1 server, running windows server 2003 Enterprise Edition, 2Gb RAM, 2.66 Celeron CPU, and with a 1.3 TB Shared drive partition. The idea is to use the server as a NAS. The desktop and the server are connected via 100MBit UTP/Ethernet, to a DLINK DI-604 Router (WAN port of the router used for Internet). To another one of the LAN ports is connected a Wireless router, NETGEAR WGT624 v3. Wireless connection for the laptops is established at 54 Mbits. The share is mainly used for movies and music sharing between the PCs. When using the shared drive from the desktop (or if I use a LAN cable to plug directly to the DI) I have zero connection problems. For the wireless, however, as I mentioned before, the second I do two twings on two different machines that are connected over wireless simultaneously (and I've tried *all* combinations) the connection is lost for 5 seconds, which is not significant, but enough to be annoying if watching a movie or trying to use the "robust" file transfer of Windows.
What I've tried so far: Perfmon was showing that Page Reads were high, so I upgraded the RAM TO 2Gb(previously the server had only 1Gb or RAM). I tried having each client map the drive using its own account, that did not work either. I've been dealing with shared drives a lot (on win 2000-win 2008 servers), but not nearly as bad of behavior. Worst I've had is having to remap the drives every once in a while if not used or a client gets restarted and loses the mapping. However, I've dealt primarily with sharing over Ethernet, and not WiFi. I'm not a rookie by any means (I've covered CCNA and have done quite a bit of sys admin work as a hobby) I've done all of the basic troubleshooting, the problem is very specific and not a general networking problem by any means.
Implement the procedures required so that machine 1 and machine 2 can communicate statically with one another. Outline the TCP/IP settings to be used on each of the machines and set this machine up accordingly.
I followed this guide [TUT] Setting a static internal IP (Windows and Linux)but what has happened is that now the two machines can't connect to the internet.
I have just turned my PC on to find that i have lost connection to the internet through my desktop PC. I am using the wired connection to my router, and i also have my xbox connected to the router which is working ok too. My laptop also works when connecting to the router both wired and wirelesly.
My network adaptor on my desktop is a Nvidia nForce, i have tried updating the driver on this to no avail. Next i tried to ping the router but i get PING Transmit faild, error code 1231. I ran IPCONFIG /all and found that i had no default gateway set, and also it was saying that the ethernet adaptor was : Media Unoperational, but since i rebooted both the pc and router the media unoperational tag has gone.
On the network and sharing page it shows i am connected to an unidenfied network but there is a cross through the internet. It also says the access and Connection for the unitentified network are Local only.
I have a small network: - Domain server - Terminal Server - DB Server SQL 2008 (windows authentification) Usually, user lost connection to the domain.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust had a new wifi usb adapter delivered today and tried to connect my desktop pc from my room to the bt home hub 2.0 in the kitchen. This is only 13meters max to walk and 10m if going through 2 or 3 walls. I installed the ralink drivers and plugged in the adapter which my computer then installed fine. It will pick up some networks including mine which i managed to connect to but only at a very low rate. Not after very long the connection will disappear and so will all the other houses networks. If i then pull it out and plug it in again they appear again for a short while?
I use my parents packard bell netbook in my room and it works fine. It could well be the case that this adapter was pretty cheap from amazon and you get what you pay for..

I no longer have internet access from my home network ONLY on my desktop computer. Everything was working fine as always - then while I was in my Network and Sharing Center, and clicked on my ethernet connection, 'Local Area Connection 3', I accidentally disabled it. No big deal I thought, so I re-enabled the connection. Except for some reason, my connection is all screwed up now. The name of this connection was and always has been 'dkm2' and now it just says 'Network', with no internet access. I have unplugged the cord and plugged it into this laptop and it immediately recognizes 'dkm2' and connects flawlessly, so I know the problem is on the desktop computer's end, and not the cable or router. I have tried reinstalling the ethernet adapter, as well as reinstalling/updating all drivers for it.The network diagnostic tool turns up with a message that says the connection between either my ethernet adapter or router and the Internet is broken. No matter what I seem to try, I can't get my connection to go back to it's normal 'dkm2' connection and stop giving me a generic, disconnected 'Network'. I can't figure out what could have changed. All that happened was the disabling and enabling of Local Area Connection 3.
