Setting Up Cable Internet Connection After Reinstall Of Xp?
Mar 16, 2011
I had so much old garbage and damage from old viruses I needed to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows xp from the System OS disk. Computer is up and running now, but I lost a lot of stuff, including my ability to connect to the internet and some drivers. I have cable internet. I downloaded Broadcom advanced control suite and the netxtreme 57xx drivers from the Broadcom site, and installed them with the provided download manager. Nothing seems to be working, the control suite says "No active broadcom network adapters detected in this system"....
note- I've been downloading to a different computer and burning the files to CD, and transferring them to the Dell that way...
I have an older (but still good) computer...it's gotten to the point of being somewhat less than functional due to remnants of old programs and viruses and such scattered thoughout it. After a few weeks of fighting it to get it to run properly I think at this point my best option is to reformat the hard drive and re-install the original OS from CD. I've already backed up all my important files to CD and DVD, pretty much ready to pull the trigger here.... Concerned about getting back online! I have cable internet (Bresnan)...I want to make sure I have the proper drivers and any applicable software to get back online, I know people have had problems with this after reformatting....The computer is a dell dimension 8400, I'll be returning it to a windows XP home edt. with sp2 from the OS CD, (circa 2004ish). I plan on putting a comodo firewall installation on a CD as well, so I have a functional firewall in place (instead of the crappy norton one that will get re-installed) when I go to get the sp2 updates and the sp3 and updates and not just end up re-infected again...
i just had to reinstall xp sp1 and now can not get on the internet to update the sys really need to get this working soon have a client coming on the 13
Recently, I re-installed windows XP on a newly formatted hard drive. I tried to use the network setup wizard to create an internet connection via a cable plugged into back of pc but the wizard says that it can not detect network hardware. I believe the network card is built into the Motherboard. I tried to isntall drivers from the Dell Cd that came with the system but it fails to detect a modem. My system is a Dell dimension 5150?
Now unable to connect laptop wirelessly. The laptop can see the connection, but when I click it to connect it just doesn't. Have tried rebooting both laptop, desktop and modem, left it overnight, can't connect smartphone to it either. All were working perfectly until I had to reinstall.
I'm not working on a computer now. This is just a question of curiosity since I am still learning networking. I did a reinstall for someone. Once they brought their computer back home their Verizon DSL connection was not working. He could not Ping Google.com.
I reformat my old PC and installed Win XP SP3. There were no errors during installation and everything works ok. However, I'm not able to connect to the internet with my ethernet cable. The LAN connection shows 'Connected' but properties shows some packets sent but zero received. There are no antivirus program installed, windows firewall is turned off as well.
I've tried the following:
- Tried the same ethernet cable connection to another PC and I was able to get on the internet (so no ISP or router issues I assumed).
- Fix the stack using Winsock - didn't work.
- Device Manager now shows Network Adapter > Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base-T Controller #2 (no yellow question mark). Although I had to reinstall the driver after XP installation.
- Here's the result of ipconfig/all:
Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : fiu-cf8cd9c6ded Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
I was also struggling with locale area net work.. When i have installed fresh window into my PC. The Locale area plugen showing but no internet conection found. I have restart my PC couple of times while sitting my different internet provider connections. Alteas i have reinstall my window xp so i guess may be its my window problem it have missing some files.
Configured a D-Link DIR-601 router? The internet is connected, but there is a yellow triangle with a exclamation mark on the bottom right corner stating it isn't connected. I read the manual and did everything as listed, but still have the same issue.
We just moved to a new place and ISP here have a bit weried connection - they use cable modem that provides "local" IP (through DHCP) to the router and than you have to dial out L2TP to the ISP in order to connect to internet. This setup works fine with "home" routers, like the LinkSys, however I have no clue on how to setup it on 2811.
Was running XP in Italian OS, and it has been reinstalled on my system when I wasn't there in English. Not a problem. however after the reinstall , my network card comes up as 1394 net adapter, and in the network settings this is the only connection available. I cannot connect to the Internet, I am pretty certain that the card identified is not the correct one, but, there is no other card visible, and no way of repairing it, or installing something else. Neither is winsoc corrupt. My internet connection is broadband always on..
Due to problems with my wifi connection, I had to reset my router and modem. I have to reinstall my settings now, and therefore I need to write down a security number. That should be written on the back of my router (model WRT300N), a barcode with 8 numbers. I can't find that code. Where can I find it or is there another way to reinstall my connection and put a password on it? It's open access now.
Just moved into apartment in Ann Arbor and am forced to use this ISP. They are not wireless friendly. Their manual sucks and will only provide tech support for $80/hour. I bought a Belkin router and got it working for my MacBook. BUT my roommate can't connect, even tho her MacBook sees the network. And I can't print to my wireless printer even tho it says everything is fine when I run the wireless diagnostics. The ISP has these rules:
- Only connect the router to the Internet or Wan port. Do not connect to the numbered ports (how do I know whether or not I've done that?) - Do not use static IP addresses - Do not run a DHCP server
I have a big 2 floor house .I would like to use 3G connection using USB type of modems, like vodaphone or MTS. which router to be used so that I can get good connectivity on both floors. NOTE- I do not want to use cabled internet coonections.
I built my first computer today (woot!) but I'm having issues using my netgear N300 usb adapter to access the internet.
I am using a DLink router but for some reason I am getting some weird issues.
First of all, after using the netgear usb adapter, my mac address is something like E0-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx with the xx being the other numbers. Is having a macaddress starting with E0 wrong? All the other 5 devices on my router have mac addresses starting with 00.
Secondly, I am getting a 169.xxxxxx ip address. This is really starting to bother me because I can't set it up using DHCP.
I have a Verizon MiFi card and 3 wireless laptops that pick it up automatically.....I can't seem to get it set up on the desktop pc.....it doesn't recognize it
just to mess around i reinstalled xp/formatted drive on dimension 4550. plugged ethernet cord from computer to router but can't get any connection to internet. going through the network wizard makes me set up local networks. tried to install new drivers from download page nothing is working.when i open the network connections page under control panel no LAN shows up or anything.
I live in an area that has no cable or dsl internet available. The only options are basic dial up or wireless internet through one of the cell phone companies.Right now I use verizon with a usb adapter.I have had this since moving here.It gets good speed and I share it witht the other 4 pcs in my house through a 5 port switch using windows xp's ics(internet connection sharing)We mainly use the internet for playing games together online.Recently though i have wanted to upgrade to a wireless network.I feel as if I 'm living in the stone age because everyone else I know is using wireless.Last night I went out and purchased a netgear n750 duel band router(model number wndr4000-100nas) after reading several guides online about how to set it up.It sounded easy enough but after 3 hours I still could not get it working.
Here is what I am trying to do.I want to basically turn the router into a switch by disabling it's routing function and let the pc that has the verizon wireless card be the host and hand out ip addresses to the other pcs.(like it is doing now)Problems I am having
1- keep getting the work offline popup when I click on anything in the router control panal(it say you are not connected to the internet would you like to connect or continue to work offline I hit work offline and it just pops up again when I click something else)
2- I think I found how to change the router's ip address and disable DHCP under lan controls but when I hit save it pops up saying I need to manually change my pc's ip address and it will not save.
I am using winxp32 sp3 and right now 5 gigabit wire lan cards.(though if I get this working I'm going to pick up wireless card for 4 of the pcs.)
After formatting and reinstalling my Windows 7 64-bit OS on my hard drive, it can't connect to the internet. It says the Network Adapter is not found, so I plugged in my old hard drive and went on the internet to download the proper driver install for my network adapter, but there's one problem.I don't have an extra sata cable to connect them both at the same time so I can transfer the driver software from one hard drive to the other, and since the internet isn't working on the one I need to install the driver on, uploading it to a website obviously isn't an option.
I recently wiped my dell dimension 4550 clean due to the fact that it was given to me. I reinstalled win XP home and now have question marks beside Ethernet controller, Multimedia Audio controller, and PCI Input Device under the device manager. It shows that my Network adaptor is the 1394 Net Adapter. I have tried ipconfig and all it shows is Windows IP Configuration. no address or anyhting else. I am my ISP is Comcast with a cisco DPC3000 modem but they did not give me any drivers for this product. I have searched the dell website to find the drivers but am not really sure what i am looking for once i key in my service tag. I do have internet connection through my laptop which is a macbook and everything i load and transfer either doesn't have setup files or wont run properly on the dell unless i have internet acess.
I just reinstalled vista and put my disc with drivers in and may have chosen the wrong network adapter. Does windows automatically locate my adapter? My computer receipt lists "integrated 10/100 network card" and "intel 4965AGN wireless-N mini card".I can't access the Internet. When I ran the setup from the drivers disk, I chose intel 8255x-based PCI ethernet adapter (10/100). My other devices have issues too. There are 3 base system devices an Ethernet controller device and video controller that have the yellow exclamation points by them, as well as the network adapter.
So I reformatted my hard drive today and reinstalled Windows XP Professional version. I have a desktop tower, but I use a Netgear wireless adapter to connect to the Internet. I went to reinstall the program from the CD so I could connect to the internet, when a prompt came up saying that I had to download and install some update to my OS to install the software. To do that, I needed to connect to the internet. So, I took the desktop to a hard point and tried connecting it to the house router through an ethernet cable. However, the ethernet connection is not working either. After reading some similar problems, I went to Device Manager, and noticed that the devices: "Multimedia Audio Controller", "PCI Modem", and "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" all have yellow "!"s next to them.
My hp laptop will no longer connect to the internet thru both a wifi connection or cable connection. I've also tried to do a system restore to an earlier date and it will not let mme do this either
I recently reinstalled XP SP2 and everything seems to work fine except I cannot connect to the internet. Device Manager says no drivers installed. So I came here, put in my service tag, and got 4 recommendations. I DL'd them all to a CD, then installed on my desktop (well, when I opened them, they installed themselves). Device manager does not recognize the driver I installed. I only had one driver to DL - the other recommendations were a diagnostics utility, a modem utility, & the last was the Netwaiting thing. The driver recommended was Conexant D850 56K V.9X PCI DF Modem ULD, v.Drv32_7.70.0.0, A03. Now that's recognized as a modem, but it does not allow me to connect. I thought that was only recommended because Conexant makes chipset drivers compatible with my modem.
Earlier today I attempted to change the setting on my Westell 6100 modem such that it would simply bridge the connection to my Linksys WRT54GS router, basically involving setting the router to bridge only and turning DHCP off. Now I no longer get an internet connection through my router when previously the connection had worked perfectly fine before. I following the steps of cloning the MAC address to the router and have done the proper resetting steps (computer, them router, then modem) but I simply can't get an internet connection through my router. The process to set up simple bridging from the modem what supposed to end up with the internet light no longer turning on but the light turned back on following one of the resets.
Currently, I can connect to the internet through the modem just fine but I get nothing when I include the router. I'm not sure if there are some other settings I'm supposed to be changing as I can't seem to find anything past what I've already done when researching online. At this point I would just be happy reverting the settings I've changed but I don't know how to access the modem now that DHCP is off.Basically, I'd prefer to be able to get the router working with these new settings but if that proves too difficult (as I've heard it can be when trying to get Westell modems to work with Linksys routers) I'd like to learn how to access the modem and change the settings back to what they were (preferably in as simple terms as possible as I don't particularly understand what a lot of these settings/configurations do).(And a bit of an aside, but I had attempted to do this modem bridging to "fix" perceived internet speed problems. I've been averaging around 300Kbps download rates ever since I've had this internet connection from Verizon when the supposed download rates should be between 1MB and 1.3MB. Doing this modem bridging had been reported to fix some modem/router conflicts and improved connection speeds for some.)
My laptop wireless suddenly stopped working yesterday ( this has happened before ) so I rang BT for them to mess about with the channels to fix it which usually works but my laptop cant even connect to the internet with the cable plugged in from the hub. The computer is connected with the wire now and is working perfectly fine. Ive read on forums it could be the network adapters ive checked and they are all updated. Ive system restored and still no connection with either wireless or cable .
I have an old laptop and thought it would be OK for grandson to use until he can use a better one.It runs XP home so I thought I would reinstall win before handing it over, however after the reinstall the laptop cannot see my Virgin modem. The model of laptop is Acer Aspire 1640z it has a button on the front to indicate wireless status but that is showing nothing at all it is just a clear white colour.I did search on here before posting and found a post that had been dealing with a similar problem, I downloaded "win XP -KB91702v3-x86ENU.exe" as was suggested in post but that hasn't worked. This is an old laptop but it was working and connecting to internet fine before I did reinstall.
I setup my own wireless connection using Cox Cable some time ago and it's been working with no problems. Today I tried to setup my sister's laptop with a wireless connection also with Cox Cable. Router is setup correctly and the connection says signal strength is excellent. However, the computer will not connect to the Internet. She has a Motorola Modem which a Cox Tech says he can see the modem so that's ok. I noticed the on the Modem the PC Connectivity light is amber and steady. While I have a different modem with the same company, my PC Connectivity light is green and it blinks from all the Internet activity P.S. All other setting are correct i.e. Obtain IP address automatically, DNS setting, DCHP etc.
We have optimum dsl, windows 7 computers, a windows server a lynksys router and a gigabit switch. The cable power went out in the area last friday. Now they say the internet is on but our network wont pick it up. After reading a number of sites it seems our switch to router may be the issue. the switch has all similar ports for network cable connections. the router has an obvious port for the main cable internet connection. I can not figure out if the location of connectors on the gigabyte switch matter in terms of where the switch and router connect to each other. this all worked last week. my other problem is that i have no internet access at the office to troubleshoot this. I dont remember model numbers for the switch and modem. we have 6 computers networked.
I have a cable internet connection in win-7 PC,I need to share this internet to a windows 8 laptop.I'm looking for cheap solution( so not going for WiFi routers)how to use ICS(internet connection share) in windows 8 can I fix it with a network switch?[URL]
the other day i set up a new internet connection and to set it up they sent me a WAG160Nv2 modem router and after hours of trying to get it working the technical support guy told me it cant be set up until the dsl led comes on, so what it being off means/how to get it to turn on?
