Cisco WAN :: Setting Up 2811 Internet Connection

Mar 3, 2011

We just moved to a new place and ISP here have a bit weried connection - they use cable modem that provides "local" IP (through DHCP) to the router and than you have to dial out L2TP to the ISP in order to connect to internet. This setup works fine with "home" routers, like the LinkSys, however I have no clue on how to setup it on 2811.

Cisco :: Slow Internet Connection On 2811?

I have my router connected to my ISP, but for some reason I am getting really slow internet connection compared to a home Linksys router. I can only think it may be to the fact my port is set to auto speed and auto duplex.

Sometime the websites are fast, other times slow. Cannot seem to pinpoint the reason since my code is so basic.

setting up IPsec for a DMVPN between a 2811 and 2951s in a test lab.  I have enabled IPsec on the hub (2811) but I am unable to do so on either of the 2951s.  After researching, it seems that I may have the incorrect IOS for this, but I am at a loss which IOS I should be using. Currently the 2951s are on "c2951-universalk9-mz.SPA.151-2.T2.bin" and the only crypto options are(config)#crypto ?

  ca   Certification authority
  key  Long term key operations
  pki  Public Key components

while on the 2811 I get:

WIN-T(config)#crypto ?
  ca            Certification authority
call          Configure Crypto Call Admission Control
  ctcp          Configure cTCP encapsulation
dynamic-map   Specify a dynamic crypto map template

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2691 / 2811 - Where To Begin When Setting Up Multicast

Sep 5, 2012

We're starting to share video across our network and would like to setup multicast to conserve at least some of the bandwidth.  We have a broad mix of equipment (A Catalyst 6509-E at the core, a combination for Cisco 2691 & 2811 routers, and a whole lot of Catalyst 3500, 3550, 3560 switches at a hundred locations.  Where would I begin?  Would I need to define routing for the multicast IP addresses (224.0.0.0)?  Would I need to setup interfaces & IP networks where each multicast device is located like I would for a new IP subnet?

Setting Up Cable Internet Connection After Reinstall Of Xp?

Mar 16, 2011

I had so much old garbage and damage from old viruses I needed to reformat the hard drive and reinstall windows xp from the System OS disk. Computer is up and running now, but I lost a lot of stuff, including my ability to connect to the internet and some drivers. I have cable internet. I downloaded Broadcom advanced control suite and the netxtreme 57xx drivers from the Broadcom site, and installed them with the provided download manager. Nothing seems to be working, the control suite says "No active broadcom network adapters detected in this system"....

note- I've been downloading to a different computer and burning the files to CD, and transferring them to the Dell that way...

Setting Up Wireless Router To College Internet Connection ISP

Aug 31, 2011

Just moved into apartment in Ann Arbor and am forced to use this ISP. They are not wireless friendly. Their manual sucks and will only provide tech support for $80/hour. I bought a Belkin router and got it working for my MacBook. BUT my roommate can't connect, even tho her MacBook sees the network. And I can't print to my wireless printer even tho it says everything is fine when I run the wireless diagnostics. The ISP has these rules:

- Only connect the router to the Internet or Wan port. Do not connect to the numbered ports (how do I know whether or not I've done that?)
- Do not use static IP addresses
- Do not run a DHCP server

Setting Up Internet Connection With Netgear N300 USB Adapter?

Jun 8, 2011

I built my first computer today (woot!) but I'm having issues using my netgear N300 usb adapter to access the internet.

I am using a DLink router but for some reason I am getting some weird issues.

First of all, after using the netgear usb adapter, my mac address is something like E0-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx with the xx being the other numbers. Is having a macaddress starting with E0 wrong? All the other 5 devices on my router have mac addresses starting with 00.

Secondly, I am getting a 169.xxxxxx ip address. This is really starting to bother me because I can't set it up using DHCP.

Setting Up Internet Connection Sharing With A Netgear N750 Router?

Feb 7, 2012

I live in an area that has no cable or dsl internet available. The only options are basic dial up or wireless internet through one of the cell phone companies.Right now I use verizon with a usb adapter.I have had this since moving here.It gets good speed and I share it witht the other 4 pcs in my house through a 5 port switch using windows xp's ics(internet connection sharing)We mainly use the internet for playing games together online.Recently though i have wanted to upgrade to a wireless network.I feel as if I 'm living in the stone age because everyone else I know is using wireless.Last night I went out and purchased a netgear n750 duel band router(model number wndr4000-100nas) after reading several guides online about how to set it up.It sounded easy enough but after 3 hours I still could not get it working.

Here is what I am trying to do.I want to basically turn the router into a switch by disabling it's routing function and let the pc that has the verizon wireless card be the host and hand out ip addresses to the other pcs.(like it is doing now)Problems I am having

1- keep getting the work offline popup when I click on anything in the router control panal(it say you are not connected to the internet would you like to connect or continue to work offline I hit work offline and it just pops up again when I click something else)

2- I think I found how to change the router's ip address and disable DHCP under lan controls but when I hit save it pops up saying I need to manually change my pc's ip address and it will not save.

I am using winxp32 sp3 and right now 5 gigabit wire lan cards.(though if I get this working I'm going to pick up wireless card for 4 of the pcs.)

Lost Internet Connection When Setting Westell 6100 Modem To Simply Bridge To Router?

Aug 1, 2011

Earlier today I attempted to change the setting on my Westell 6100 modem such that it would simply bridge the connection to my Linksys WRT54GS router, basically involving setting the router to bridge only and turning DHCP off. Now I no longer get an internet connection through my router when previously the connection had worked perfectly fine before. I following the steps of cloning the MAC address to the router and have done the proper resetting steps (computer, them router, then modem) but I simply can't get an internet connection through my router. The process to set up simple bridging from the modem what supposed to end up with the internet light no longer turning on but the light turned back on following one of the resets.

Currently, I can connect to the internet through the modem just fine but I get nothing when I include the router. I'm not sure if there are some other settings I'm supposed to be changing as I can't seem to find anything past what I've already done when researching online. At this point I would just be happy reverting the settings I've changed but I don't know how to access the modem now that DHCP is off.Basically, I'd prefer to be able to get the router working with these new settings but if that proves too difficult (as I've heard it can be when trying to get Westell modems to work with Linksys routers) I'd like to learn how to access the modem and change the settings back to what they were (preferably in as simple terms as possible as I don't particularly understand what a lot of these settings/configurations do).(And a bit of an aside, but I had attempted to do this modem bridging to "fix" perceived internet speed problems. I've been averaging around 300Kbps download rates ever since I've had this internet connection from Verizon when the supposed download rates should be between 1MB and 1.3MB. Doing this modem bridging had been reported to fix some modem/router conflicts and improved connection speeds for some.)

Cisco WAN :: Unable To Get Connection Between 2811 And NM-16ESW

Jun 1, 2006

For some reason I cannot seem to get a connection between the router and the switch.  I see the FE ports on the siwtch, sh ver  includes all 18 FE ports, but it seems that there is no backplane connection.  The only way I can get conenctivity to the switch module is to jumper between one of the routers FE ports and a NM port.  The switch will not accept any IP addressing on the same network as the router becasue of overlap.  Am I just being stupid?  My understanding was this NM would have a backplane connection to the router.  Some docs mention a GE conneection that should show up and there were two parts to the config, one to set up the interconnect and then to set up the switch.

Cisco VPN :: 2811 VPN Client Connection To IOS Firewall Using Certificates

Nov 2, 2011

I'm generally pretty good with VPN issues and with SSL certs, but this is my first rodeo with VPN and certificates together.  I've got a Cisco 2811 router running IOS Firewall (12.4(25)) and for a while now, I've had VPN clients connecting using PSK's and XAUTH.  In order to tighten security, we'd like to move away from PSK's with Aggressive Mode and use certificates with Main Mode.I've been trying to use the Cisco 2811 as the CA, rather than use a Microsoft server or third-party provider.  I think I'm pretty close to getting this to work, but something isn't quite right.  My VPN client software does connect to the 2811, and I get prompted for the XAUTH creds.  If I supply the right creds, I do see in my VPN log window that I've gotten assigned an IP address from the inside VPN pool, my split tunneling rules come through, but the VPN disconnects almost immediately and I never get a chance to try any pings or to send any other types of traffic. [code]

I have attached a sterilized copy of the 2811's current config (2811_sterile.txt), a copy of the 2811's debug output when the VPN client tries to connect (vpn_client_connect_sterile.txt), and a copy of the VPN client's log with IKE on High and Certificates on High (vpn_log_sterile.txt).FWIW, the 2811 is NOT behind NAT, but my VPN client IS behind NAT.  However, I have tried using a direct connection with the VPN client and it didn't seem to change much so I'm not convinced this is a NAT issue.Again, I've never used a Cisco router as a CA and I've been battling this problem for several hours now so the 2811's config may have a lot of unneccessary lines in it at this point.

Cisco VPN :: 2811 - SSL VPN Services / Cannot Pass Traffic To Internet

Jan 17, 2013

[OK]     Site to Site IPSec + GRE = success, no problems.
[OK]     IPSec remote access = success, no problems.
[NO]     SSL VPN = remote users can successfully connect to all internal systems. Cannot pass traffic to the Internet.

Hardware:
Cisco 2811, Cisco IOS Software, 2800 Software (C2800NM-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.4(22)T5, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3) . Software: Cisco Any Connect Secure Mobility Version 3.1.01065

Single hub router terminating IPSec+GRE site to site, IPSec remote access, and SSLVPN remote access VPN services. All services currently configured and running successfully with the exception of the SSLVPN service. Remote users can initiate and successfully establish SSL VPN sessions. While established, connectivity to all internal systems/resources are successful. Only when the remote access client tries to connect to "Outside" Internet resources does traffic not pass successfully. Troubleshooting has pointed to a NAT related issue (I believe).

When connecting from a remote access workstation, utilizing IPSec remote access client (built-in Cisco IPSec client from Mac OS), the session establishes and the client works flawlessly. Examining the Cisco 2811 router, you see the /32 host route from the remote access session get installed, and you see the corresponding NAT translation entries created when the client accesses outside (Internet) resources. Appropriate configuration to implement "hair pinning" have been included to handle the in and right back out (with NAT translation) needed for remote clients to access the Internet.

Configured the 2811 for SSL VPN, and remote access clients can successfully connect and access all internal network resources. Examining the Cisco 2811, the /32 host route for the remote access client is installed, pointing to SSLVPN-VIF0 interface with a next hop of 0.0.0.0  When checking the NAT translation table, there are NO entries for the remote access client address created which leads me to believe the hair pinning/NAT function is not being invoked for SSLVPN clients.

Originally, the IPSec remote access VPN local pool was 10.0.100.0 /24. To keep from having to adjust the existing NAT translation, PBR Route-MAP for the hair pinning function - I took the 10.0.100./24 and broke it into a pair of /25 networks. Bottom half for the IPSec remote access VPN pool (10.0.100.0 /25); upper half for the SSL VPN pool (10.0.100.128 /25). By utilizing SSL VPN, is the traffic somehow bypassing the DIALER1 interface where both the crypto map (and more importantly: IP NAT OUTSIDE, and PBR configuration for the hair pinning function)? I cant explain why NAT translation entries are not being created for SSLVPN client sessions.

Cisco 2811 Configuration has been included. IPSec & SSL VPN Remote Access Sessions Captures (performed from same remote client) have been included.
