Earlier today I attempted to change the setting on my Westell 6100 modem such that it would simply bridge the connection to my Linksys WRT54GS router, basically involving setting the router to bridge only and turning DHCP off. Now I no longer get an internet connection through my router when previously the connection had worked perfectly fine before. I following the steps of cloning the MAC address to the router and have done the proper resetting steps (computer, them router, then modem) but I simply can't get an internet connection through my router. The process to set up simple bridging from the modem what supposed to end up with the internet light no longer turning on but the light turned back on following one of the resets.
Currently, I can connect to the internet through the modem just fine but I get nothing when I include the router. I'm not sure if there are some other settings I'm supposed to be changing as I can't seem to find anything past what I've already done when researching online. At this point I would just be happy reverting the settings I've changed but I don't know how to access the modem now that DHCP is off.Basically, I'd prefer to be able to get the router working with these new settings but if that proves too difficult (as I've heard it can be when trying to get Westell modems to work with Linksys routers) I'd like to learn how to access the modem and change the settings back to what they were (preferably in as simple terms as possible as I don't particularly understand what a lot of these settings/configurations do).(And a bit of an aside, but I had attempted to do this modem bridging to "fix" perceived internet speed problems. I've been averaging around 300Kbps download rates ever since I've had this internet connection from Verizon when the supposed download rates should be between 1MB and 1.3MB. Doing this modem bridging had been reported to fix some modem/router conflicts and improved connection speeds for some.)

My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

It is set to dummy mode so it should just pass through to the WRTG54S router which handles the DHCP.2) I have 6 computers sucking the internet off of the router. One is wireless.3) I have been set up for about 6 months this way. 4) I use to drop the DSL connection about twice a day. I would unplug the WRTG54S and plug it back in and everything would reset and work. Then, recently it has gone to about 15 times a dayThen, we have to make a major electrical change in the building, which required us to go to generator power only for 5 days. For 5 days, we never dropped the DSL connection a single time. Power was restored. Generator sent back home. Problem is back. Dropping DSL connection again.5) Hooked up APC battery backup power smoothing device to 3 cpus, WRTG54S, and DSL modem.

Motorola Surfboard 6121, Every since Com-cast has updated their network (two months ago), my Internet connection is VERY unstable.Com-cast says it is my problem because I can get reliable service at high speed using just my laptop: Win 7, and the Motorola modem. The modem does show high speed connection (blue light) when the only thing connected is the laptop. If I connect the rest of the home network; ,LinkSys BEFSR11 router, Netgear FS #108 10/100 switch, then my laptop. The Surfboard modems light turns orange (lower connection speeds). do I need to replace my NetGear switch and my router? This constant up and down intermittent connection is terrible!

I have a 4-port Netgear modem/router (DG834), and need to distribute its Internet connection according to the following criteria:
1.There are 11 access points (3 wired, 8 wireless) across 4 floors of a building - all cabling is from a central point, which will connect through a switch.Cat 5e cabling is in place.
2.The wireless points need Power over Ethernet connections
3.The 4 router ports serve 2 PC's and a printer in an office, the fourth being the connection to the switch.
4.There must be network separation so that:
- all points have Internet access
- there are three separate groups - one for the office, one for staff (wired) and one for guests (the wireless points), the purpose being to ensure that no user in one group can access any user's device in the other 2 groups. I'm assuming VLAN is the method for this.
5.Traffic on the network is likely to be fairly low casual use of the wireless ports, the office PC's only being used for Internet access and email no transactional systems, large databases or other resource / network-intensive functions.
1.Both the Netgear FS726TP and GS724TP look as if they will do what I want, using WNAP210 wireless access points. Could I achieve the same outcome with 2 x GS108PE switches? Any other hardware recommendations?
2.Do I need any additional hardware?
3.Are there any other considerations I have not thought of?

There are two remote location using GE-DS-82 Managed Switches. The two networks must remain isolated, yet use the same fiber communications. The central switch connects to the two location using MM Fiber. From my research I believe I need to use the 802.1q standard to allow port trunking between the two switches.

Whenever user from Modem A(192.168.0.1) or Modem B(192.168.0.10) would like to print or scan something using the shared printer, I need to manually plug the cable into either Modem A or Modem B depends on the network the user are currently using. How I do previously is only set DHCP on Modem A and disable DHCP for modem B so that Modem B will share DHCP assigned by Modem A. Both modems connect to the same Switch with the printer cable so both network user can use it together. But the problem now is I have to enable DHCP for both modems and causing the previously method can't be use anymore. So is there any other way that I can link both Modem A and Modem B with each assign different DHCP to link with 1

The modem Time Warner gave me several years ago was dying, I took it in, they gave me a Cisco modem, I plugged it into the computer, works fine, so then I plugged it into my airlink 101 wireless router, the computer recognizes the router but says there is no internet access, i.e. the modem and router are not communicating. Why would change of modem cause lack of communication with the router, is there something different about modems now compared with roughly 5 years ago? And what can i do to fix it so i can have wireless access again? If it matters, I have no protection on my wireless (because I never figured out how).

I connect to the internet through a Thomson TG585 v8 modem. When I log in to the modem's IP (192.168.1.254?) through a browser, I only get one task available, that is "Check connectivity for this internet service". As far as I know, I should have some management options, like for example to block websites, to limit internet service for certain devices etc... Does anybody knows why I don't have these options? Could it be a restriction from the Internet Service Provider?

We bought a RV220W in order to get a VPN in our Small Business. The RV220W will only be used to let clients connect to it and not a tunnel between another VPN box.We could use QuickVPN, but it won't be working in our case, because in order to use QuickVPN, the router wants to change its IP 10.x.y.1. Because we have multiple servers/services that are using a static IP, it would be quite painful to change the subnet. Therefore, we would like to stay on the same subnet and change it in worst case scenario only. This is why QuickVPN is not an option here.We could use SSL VPN, but most of our clients who will connect to the VPN are using Windows 7 x64. I have tried the Windows 7 x64 fix told in the latest firmware release notes, but I can't get it to work on my computer, which is a Win7 x64. It might still be broken. Many of them are not very tech-savyy, so I can't tell them to use a virtual machine to connect. We want a secure connection, therefore IPSec is better than PPTP. I've been trying to setup IPSec for the past hours but I can't get it working. At first, I wanted to use an SSL certificate, but having no luck with this, I switched to a Pre-shared Key (PSK) in order to get things simpler. Eventually I would like to use an SSL certificate, however I would like to get PSK working first to confirm that the IPSec connection is working.
I have attached with this post, screenshots of the IKE and VPN Policies. I have used the VPN Wizard in order to complete these fields. The local identifier is the WAN DynDNS FQDN. However, as for the remote FQDN, there should be none really, because clients are connecting to it, so the RV220W won't know in advance who's connecting and from where. I have read that when using the Responder type, the remote settings should not matter. Also, the PSK is 25 caracters long. After setting the RV220W up, I have set up a L2TP/IPSec VPN connection on my Windows 7. I have set up the connection to connect to the DynDNS address and set up the PSK in the Advanced settings. After I typed my IPSec username and password to connect (which was created in the IPSec users section), Windows tries to connect and times out :
Error 789 : The L2TP connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer.
At the same time on the RV220W, this error shows up in the logs :
2012-08-26 23:45:24: [rv220w][IKE] ERROR: Could not find configuration for 24.54.xx.xx[500]
I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I've read the Administration manual quite a few times and it seems that I have followed everything by the book.I have tried to enable/disable my Windows firewall, but did not get any luck. The RV220W is located at a remote office, to make sure that I can connect from the outside, before you think that I'm trying to connect to the outside, from the inside I have changed few settings in the IKE policy to try to make it work. Settings such as the Exchange Mode, because I've read that the Aggressive mode had issues. At this moment, the settings are back to default, once the wizard has been run. I'm thinking about setting a PPTP to confirm that this works, then move up to IPSec PSK, then to IPSec SSL Certificate.

I've read and read about setting up the WAN static IP connection, and can't get it to work. I purchased this router to replace an older Linksys Router (WRT150N) so that I could better implement VPN. All I need is 2 remote connections. The Linksys Router has been working great with a static IP setting, so I figured all I need to do to is enter the same IP, subnet, gateway, and DNS settings in the RV180W and it should work fine. Well it doesn't provide any connection to the internet. As far as I can see, it has all the same settings set that the linksys has.
Is there something additional I must do for a WAN static IP setting setup. I even contacted the ISP but they say their modem is fine and of-course they won't assist with the router. As soon as I connect the linksys back to the modem, I get access to the internet.
I'm no engineer, but something isn't allowing any Internet services. LAN is fine. I attached a W7 laptop to the router, and it says it can't reach the internet due to something about proxy services. There is no proxy server so not sure what it is referring to.
By the way I tried another manufacturer router just to ensure that it wasn't a defective RV180W, but that router didn't connect either - same issue. If I set it up on my home service, both work albeit only with DHCP WAN settings.
