I have an ARRIS modem supplied by Comcast cable. I have an hp pavilion x1958 and want to run internet service to a secondary computer from the same modem. And I don't have money to buy a router. How can I do this the cheapest way?

I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

1. I configure my DSL Modem in RFC 2684. The first use 172.16.0.2/29 and the second 172.16.0.3/29. I connect this devices to Fa0/0/0 and Fa0/0/1.
2. I configure Vlan1 to use the network configured on my modem :

ip address 172.16.0.1 255.255.255.248
3. I try to ping my devices :

I hooked up with a Linksys WRT110 wireless router to a Zoom modem and my DSL on my desktop and laptop are both working fine. My problem is my phone lines quit working. I plugged a phone into the box outside and I had a dial tone. When you try to call my house it just keeps ringing.

Whenever user from Modem A(192.168.0.1) or Modem B(192.168.0.10) would like to print or scan something using the shared printer, I need to manually plug the cable into either Modem A or Modem B depends on the network the user are currently using.How I do previously is only set DHCP on Modem A and disable DHCP for modem B so that Modem B will share DHCP assigned by Modem A. View 6 Replies View RelatedThe modem Time Warner gave me several years ago was dying, I took it in, they gave me a Cisco modem, I plugged it into the computer, works fine, so then I plugged it into my airlink 101 wireless router, the computer recognizes the router but says there is no internet access, i.e. the modem and router are not communicating. Why would change of modem cause lack of communication with the router, is there something different about modems now compared with roughly 5 years ago? And what can i do to fix it so i can have wireless access again? If it matters, I have no protection on my wireless (because I never figured out how).

When I log in to the modem's IP (192.168.1.254?) through a browser, I only get one task available, that is "Check connectivity for this internet service". As far as I know, I should have some management options, like for example to block websites, to limit internet service for certain devices etc... Does anybody knows why I don't have these options? I have followed the instructions on the set up wizard but it fails to get a connection with the IP and DNS info I provide.I got the IP address info by connecting intially direct from the modem to the PC and then went to Run CMD and type ipconfig /all. I then started the set up wizard and followed the instructions, turning things on in specific order etc. After input the IP and DNS info it reports an error and tells me to check the address information is correct.My internet is a static IP connection (so it tells me and the IP information doesn't change).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm going to combine 2 512 kbps ADSL line in my PC. i know that it would be much better to get a 1 MB ADSL connection...but the problem is where i live now there is not better speed than this! Well i have a PC with 2 LANs - 2 phone lines - 2 ADSL modems - as far as i learned from Google , by no means it is possible to combine them to have 1 MB data rate but it is possible for example IDM would works with one 512 and another program with another 512..!! And load balancing is the only solution for this which it needs a special routers ! it is somehow difficult for me to provide one ..!! so my question is :
1- Is there any other solution for combining this 2 lines?! I heard something about teaming.
2- Is it possible to use load balancing by software?
3- How about the efficiency and ping time?
