Dell :: Dimension E521 / AIO Center Cannot Find Networked 962 Printer
Oct 13, 2011
Trying to print from a Dimension E521 using Dell AIO Center to a hard-wired networked 962 printer hosted on an Inspirion 530 using a LinkSys WRT54G V8 router. Cannot scan or fax from the Dimension via the network. During software install, the printer is not automatically detected on the network and it has to be manually assigned. Attempt to print test page via the network during software install results in a document in the print queue that hangs the printer with a print error. After the aborted test page, nothing works.
Using the VISTA Control Panel can successfully set up the printer and can print a test page to it. In this case, the printer install CAN see the printer on the network, so I don't think it is a network issue.
However, if the control panel is used to install the printer, the AIO center cannot find it at all and displays an error that software and drivers are not installed. Yes, Network and Sharing are all set up correctly and, no, the Firewall is not the problem as it is turned off on both machines.
Drivers are not the issue. I have deleted the drivers and reinstalled them so many times in the last week I can do it in my sleep.

I have three machines that run dos5 and are unable to be networked (for various reasons). I am able to print the screen of each system but I want to share a printer amongst all of them. As it turns out they are on completely seperate sides of the room and a way to setup a seperate computer to act as a print server allowing me to do the following:
DOSBOX-->parallel port-->printserver(computer)-->ethernet port-->networked printe.
My goal is to move the printer to a different room too.

I have a setup with a Cisco RV042 router connected as follows: Broadband Motorola Surfboard -> Cisco RV042 -> Wireless Router [code] The Surfboard has a wireless N network, though the other wireless router runs on G for compatibility reasons.
The problem I am having is that I have a printer connected to a Windows computer on the wireless N router (with a static IP address), and I need computers on the G network to be able to use the shared printer. The printer is shared, though not through Home group.
On the other computers in the house (on the G network), I cannot see the server in the list of computers on the network, and I cannot seem to manually add the printer by typing in the IP address.
how can I get other computers to detect the server connected to the printer, or what IP address/port/URL do I specify to connect to a shared printer on that PC?

There would appear to be a general problem with printing from a wireless laptop, judging by the number I've come across in the search for a solution to my particular problem. My Set-up is:BT Home-Hub (up to 8 MBs Broadband DSL connection with outputs of two ethernet ports and Wifi, telephone and USB
- port 1 connected to Vista PC
- port 2 connected to 8 port Netgear switch.
Netgear switch.
- port 1 input from BT Home Hub
- port 2 connected to TV
- port 3 connected to NAS
- port 4 connected to Samsung CLP 620 ND colour laser
- port 5 connected to this desktop PC (Win 7/64bit)
- ports 5 to 8 as yet unused.
Other PCs
- desktop running XP SP3 connects through WiFi
- old Toshiba laptop running XP SP 3 connects through WiFi
- new HP laptop running Win 7 SP 1 connects through WiFi
- Acer laptop running Win 7 SP1 connects through WiFi.(WiFi computers not necessarily connected all at the same time)
The issue. This desktop can print via the network..All XP pcs/laptops see the printer on the network and can print..The Win 7 laptops see the printer on the network, but when asked to print a test page, the document gets stuck in queue until it gives the Error - printing message. If the printer is sleeping, when the test page is sent, the Samsung print dialog panel on the laptop remains showing "Printer is sleeping..." as if no commands are being sent to the printer (and therefore why nothing prints). Cancelling the document returns the printer to normal - ie the exclam mark in the yellow triangle disappears and is replaced by a tick. When the laptop is shutdown, and then restarted maybe a day later, if the printer is on, it jumps into life and prints the test page from the laptop.I should add that the laptop is also part of the HOMEGROUP and can see the printer via this PC when this PC is on - and it can print via this PC in the HOMEGROUP. Both the problem laptops have the up to date Samsung drivers although it took an age to install - it seems to get stuck on the "Detecting TCP/IP Port" page and then goes to a page headed Additional port info required. On selecting Samsung Printer, it moves on to Detecting Driver Model, gets stuck there until it moves on to the old Add Printer dialog with Manufacturers in the left pane and printers in the right.

I have an HP Photosmart 7150 networked on a Win7 PC. I followed the below directions to set up the share on my Mac with SnowLeopard. My issue is that a file that is, say 700 kilobytes gets transmitted to the spooler as several megabytes. As a result when I print a file it runs through all of the paper in the tray. If there is enough paper loaded it will eventually print the file. Somewhere in the middle it will print several pages of garbage.
Make sure your printer is on and connected to the USB port on the router. In OS X go to System Preferences.Click on Print & Fax.Click the lock (to unlock) to make changes. Enter your password if you need to.Click on the plus (+) sign at the left to add a printer. In Leopard/Snow Leopard click on the IP tab.In the Protocol drop down, select HP JetDirect - Socket. In the Address drop down, type the IP Address of your printer (192.168.1.10)Leave Queue blank.
Give a descriptive name [Network Printer].Give a descriptive location. In the Print Using drop down either select your driver or choose the "select a driver to use" option.Choose the appropriate driver for your printer.Press OK and then click Add.

I recently cleaned my hard drive, but forgot to save my drivers.
Now after installing Windows XP, I can't access the internet and I can't save anything because I keep getting insufficient memory errors (but my drive is almost empty), but I have been able to update drivers.
I have managed to recover some of the drivers but I can't figure out what I have to do to get my desktop to access the web. I have tried directly connecting to my router and using my wireless USB adapter (whose driver I can't install because of an insufficient error message).
My computer is a HP Pavilion Media Center TV m7640n Desktop that I bought several years ago:
[URL]
In device manager, i only have 3 question marks left under Other Devices: Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter, and Multimedia Video Controller.
So far I've installed these drivers off the HP website:
Fall 2006 Original NVIDIA LAN Drivers
Fall 2006 Original Asus Modem Drivers
Fall 2006 Original NVIDIA Chipset Drivers
Fall 2006 Original NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE Graphics Drivers

I have a Dimension 4600i that doesn't want to Wake on LAN. I am running the latest BIOS (A10), Intel Chipset Drivers, and latest Intel Pro/100 VE Drivers. I set the Network Settings to Network w. PXE and the startup sequence is CD-ROM, PXE, Hard disk. I am actually using the PXE, that is exactly what I want. My only problem is I need to do Wake on Lan for the system to wake up and PXE against my backup server. So far, no luck. I have tried numerous utilities and when I send magic packet the thing just sits there, everything else works great, the darn thing just won't come alive unless I hit the power button.

I have seen lots of other reports of the same problem on the web but can't find anything in the forums. I have given access to DSC in Windows Firewall

My network contains:
-Netgear router 1
-Dell Dimension 9150 - Windows XP pro SP3 (this machine, connected to router 1 using a pair of netgear powerline adapters
-2 x Dell Inspiron laptops - Windows 7 Home 64bit (wireless)
-iMac - OSX Snow Leopard (wireless)
-Apple Time Capsule (network drive)
-Several misc items (phones, iPod/iPad, Vodaphone sure signal, PS3)
-Network printer
-Netgear router 2 (used as wireless access point the otherside of the house, connected using a pair of netgear powerline adapters) CURRENTLY DISABLED
None of the 4 computers can see each other, but they can all print and access the Time Capsule. Now I've made sure they're all on the same workgroup and that relevant services for sharing files are running. When I try to "View workgroup computers" on the XP machine I get the error attached.

I just set up a wireless router in my home to my Dimension 510 computer. I know the wirelss is working because our Ps#, Iphones and ITouches can receive the signals.
However, our other desktop Dimension 510 does not appear to be receiving the wireless signal.
does it just not have the capability to receive a wireless signal and I have to use an ethernet cable connection?
Is there something I need to add in order for it to receive the sireless signal (some one mentioned an adapter but I thought an adapter just boosts the signal, and the desktop is the closest device to the network router so it should be receiveing the signal okay).

I reinstalled windows xp (reformatted c). Installed the drivers in this order: Controller, Video, Audio, Network, modem. I selected the drivers that had the check beside them on the driver disk. Now, in the device manager, there is a yellow question mark beside the ethernet card and I can't connect to my broadband connection. Wire is attached... checked that twice. I have connectivity through other computers, so internet is working in the house.

I did a fresh install of Windows XP recently on my Dell Dimension 4550 and I'm having trouble getting on the internet. In the Device manager it has the '?' next to Ethernet Controller. I've read the other articles on this site but nothing has worked as of yet.I did another fresh install of XP (2nd time) and then started with the Chipset for Intel, still nothing.
The order for drivers installation says to install the DSS utility first, but I can't seem to find it in the Drivers & Downloads section for my Dimension 4550.

My ethernet was working fine when I shut down my computer then all of a sudden it rebooted and gave me a blue screen. I rebooted it and it started but then it was not able to connect to the internet. The pci adapter driver was not there. I reinstalled it and it still would not connect. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, changed the ethernet cord for a new one and tested the new cord on a different device with no problem but stil cannot connect. It says network cable is unplugged. This happened before and the dsl technician was able to get it to work again unfortunately I have no idea how but it had something to do with the configuration.

My (home desktop Dell Dimension E310) other computer had a virus that flatlined the machine. I reinstalled the operating system from the discs provided by DELL. Now, I can't connect to my DSL. The browser wont see the http:/192.168.0.1 ActionTec router. It's plugged directly into the computer via ethernet cable. this laptop is receiving signal from the wireless portion of that router, so there has to be a signal to the computer (it was working earlier this morning prior to DELL disc reinstall).

I use a Dimension 3000 desktop. I cannot dial in to my ISP (Juno). Each time I try, it responds "can't dial in". I checked the connection, that's ok. I checked the phone line and that's ok. A box pops up that says "system service not working go to Help & Support" When I try to go to Help & Support, a box pops up "system service not working".
This all began after I used an AVG PC Tuneup. Since then the bottom line colors changed. For example, where START was green with white letters and the windows colors symbol; it is now WHITE with Black letters only. Where bottom line across was blue, now it too is WHITE.
I can pull up WORD, Games, etc. but am unable to dial in to get to internet.

Around 2 weeks ago, there was a storm in my city that completely shut down all the power for around 5 minutes. After we got the power back, I connected all the wires in the router again and tested the connection on my desktop. The internet was not connecting at all. Every few seconds a message that says "A network cable is unplugged" pops up and then it goes to Acquiring network address.I thought maybe the storm damaged the card. My father called IT Support from his office and told me to check for a light blinking next to the ethernet port at the back of the PC. IT said that if the light was flashing, then it wasn't a problem with the network card.I changed the Link Speed to every different option. No luck. I tried the Repair command. It shows up with a message saying that the IP address couldn't be renewed. I even updated all the drivers.I'm at a loss here. It's a Dell Dimension 9100 with Windows XP SP3.

I have a little older computer (Dell Dimension 9200) which I want to use as a server at home. I have formatted it and installed Windows XP - ready to be used. The other computers that will connect to this server are running Windows 7.
The problem is that the stationary pc (the one I am trying to make a server) does not appear on the "what network folder would you like to map?" part on the laptop. The server/the Dell Dimension 9200 is connected to the internet, and is fully updated through Windows updates. All the other computers in the house appear on the one laptop, but not the computer I am trying to make a server out of.

I know it had wireless before - my ASUS router wasn't wired to the computer and internet access was great. I want to ditch the pesky cord again.
