Dell :: Get Wi-Fi Connectivity On Dimension 3000?
Jan 2, 2012I want to know if I can get wi-fi connectivity on my Dell Dimension 3000. I bought it in 2005, and I don't think wi-fi capability was built in.

View 1 RepliesI use a Dimension 3000 desktop. I cannot dial in to my ISP (Juno). Each time I try, it responds "can't dial in". I checked the connection, that's ok. I checked the phone line and that's ok. A box pops up that says "system service not working go to Help & Support" When I try to go to Help & Support, a box pops up "system service not working".
This all began after I used an AVG PC Tuneup. Since then the bottom line colors changed. For example, where START was green with white letters and the windows colors symbol; it is now WHITE with Black letters only. Where bottom line across was blue, now it too is WHITE.
I can pull up WORD, Games, etc. but am unable to dial in to get to internet.
I recently reinstalled XP but 8 yrs ago Dell forgot to give me a drivers/utilites disk (I got 2 for the monitor instead).I downloaded the ethernet driver from my other computer via USB, installed it and since I now had internet access, I was able to directly download the remaining drivers via my service tag Computer & all programs are running like new again, but I KNOW my 3000 had wireless before but under Device Manager/Network, it only shows an Intel PRO/100 VE (my original paperwork say Intel PRO/100M). I know it had wireless before - my ASUS router wasn't wired to the computer and internet access was great. I want to ditch the pesky cord again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am not very computer literate, so this will seem like a stupid question. How do I determine whether a computer has wireless connectivity?
I have a Dell Dimension 9200 running Windows Vista that I bought in 2007. Previously, I have connected it to the internet using an ethernet cable to my router, but this is no longer possible now that my new computer is using the ethernet connection. I want to establish a wireless connection between my older Dell Dimension 9200 and my router, but I don't know how to find out whether the computer is capable of wireless connectivity.
After a recent power outage while my PC was in sleep mode, I don't have wired (Ethernet) connectivity.
I have new Dimension E510XP Media Center Edition, Version 2002, SP3 ver had an issue with wired connectivity on this PC after coming out of sleep mode. Of course, the power failure was unusual.
Observations:
- ipconfig /all shows that I have an IP address
- I can ping the DHCP server listed in ipconfig /all and I also can ping google.com.
- I was going to go a restore point set before the power outage. But, somehow system restore had gotten turned off. Oh, well. I did go ahead and turn system restore back on.
Things I've already tried that did not solve the issue:
- Reboot
- Uninstall/reinstall the network adapter driver. Device Manager says the network adapter card is working properly.
- Looked for an updated network adapter driver on Dell's website. Turns out that I have the latest driver already.
- Followed many of the steps from Microsoft at [URL]
- Checked McAfee Security Center firewall permissions list to see if something got changed. Everything looked okay. Also disabled the firewall just to be sure,
- Disabled SafeEyes internet filter.
- Reset the router. Also swapped router ports with a known good PC. The known good PC still had connectivity, the affected PC (the E510) did not.
I've got a Dimension C521 used as an HTPC with XBMC (Unix Version). The Remote Software of XBMC supports Wake on LAN.Is there a Way to enable WOL in the C521? Perhaps with a BIOS update ?
By the Way is there a way to update the BIOS in Unix because I don't have a Windows Version on this HTPC?
where (in germany) can I buy a CMOS Battery because the alert that the Battery is on low Voltage annoys me
I have a Dimension 4600i that doesn't want to Wake on LAN. I am running the latest BIOS (A10), Intel Chipset Drivers, and latest Intel Pro/100 VE Drivers. I set the Network Settings to Network w. PXE and the startup sequence is CD-ROM, PXE, Hard disk. I am actually using the PXE, that is exactly what I want. My only problem is I need to do Wake on Lan for the system to wake up and PXE against my backup server. So far, no luck. I have tried numerous utilities and when I send magic packet the thing just sits there, everything else works great, the darn thing just won't come alive unless I hit the power button.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Desktop Dimension E520 with a Windows 7 operating system. Up until a couple of days ago I was able to connect to the internet. I have the router connected to the computer via an ethernet cable. Now if does not detect any wireless routers in my vicinity and there were 7 others. I have a belkin G router.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy network contains:
-Netgear router 1
-Dell Dimension 9150 - Windows XP pro SP3 (this machine, connected to router 1 using a pair of netgear powerline adapters
-2 x Dell Inspiron laptops - Windows 7 Home 64bit (wireless)
-iMac - OSX Snow Leopard (wireless)
-Apple Time Capsule (network drive)
-Several misc items (phones, iPod/iPad, Vodaphone sure signal, PS3)
-Network printer
-Netgear router 2 (used as wireless access point the otherside of the house, connected using a pair of netgear powerline adapters) CURRENTLY DISABLED
None of the 4 computers can see each other, but they can all print and access the Time Capsule. Now I've made sure they're all on the same workgroup and that relevant services for sharing files are running. When I try to "View workgroup computers" on the XP machine I get the error attached.
I just set up a wireless router in my home to my Dimension 510 computer. I know the wirelss is working because our Ps#, Iphones and ITouches can receive the signals.
However, our other desktop Dimension 510 does not appear to be receiving the wireless signal.
does it just not have the capability to receive a wireless signal and I have to use an ethernet cable connection?
Is there something I need to add in order for it to receive the sireless signal (some one mentioned an adapter but I thought an adapter just boosts the signal, and the desktop is the closest device to the network router so it should be receiveing the signal okay).
I reinstalled windows xp (reformatted c). Installed the drivers in this order: Controller, Video, Audio, Network, modem. I selected the drivers that had the check beside them on the driver disk. Now, in the device manager, there is a yellow question mark beside the ethernet card and I can't connect to my broadband connection. Wire is attached... checked that twice. I have connectivity through other computers, so internet is working in the house.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI did a fresh install of Windows XP recently on my Dell Dimension 4550 and I'm having trouble getting on the internet. In the Device manager it has the '?' next to Ethernet Controller. I've read the other articles on this site but nothing has worked as of yet.I did another fresh install of XP (2nd time) and then started with the Chipset for Intel, still nothing.
The order for drivers installation says to install the DSS utility first, but I can't seem to find it in the Drivers & Downloads section for my Dimension 4550.
My ethernet was working fine when I shut down my computer then all of a sudden it rebooted and gave me a blue screen. I rebooted it and it started but then it was not able to connect to the internet. The pci adapter driver was not there. I reinstalled it and it still would not connect. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, changed the ethernet cord for a new one and tested the new cord on a different device with no problem but stil cannot connect. It says network cable is unplugged. This happened before and the dsl technician was able to get it to work again unfortunately I have no idea how but it had something to do with the configuration.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy (home desktop Dell Dimension E310) other computer had a virus that flatlined the machine. I reinstalled the operating system from the discs provided by DELL. Now, I can't connect to my DSL. The browser wont see the http:/192.168.0.1 ActionTec router. It's plugged directly into the computer via ethernet cable. this laptop is receiving signal from the wireless portion of that router, so there has to be a signal to the computer (it was working earlier this morning prior to DELL disc reinstall).
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive crashed. I have finished installing everything on a new drive that I have from my Dell installation CDs. However, in the Device manager, the Ethernet Contoller shows the the drivers are not installed. I can't seem to find them anywhere on the Dell web site.
when I pull the cover off of the computer - the outside of the Ethernet connection says "418D-J51 10/100 BT"
I am running my laptop on Windows 7 Proffesional 32 bit and it won't let me search for a wireless connection on the Control Panel I think it might be a problem with the wireless switch at the bottom as it doesn't show the wireless sign on the laptop. I have also tried running the laptop on Ultimate 64 bit but the problem continued to persist.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAround 2 weeks ago, there was a storm in my city that completely shut down all the power for around 5 minutes. After we got the power back, I connected all the wires in the router again and tested the connection on my desktop. The internet was not connecting at all. Every few seconds a message that says "A network cable is unplugged" pops up and then it goes to Acquiring network address.I thought maybe the storm damaged the card. My father called IT Support from his office and told me to check for a light blinking next to the ethernet port at the back of the PC. IT said that if the light was flashing, then it wasn't a problem with the network card.I changed the Link Speed to every different option. No luck. I tried the Repair command. It shows up with a message saying that the IP address couldn't be renewed. I even updated all the drivers.I'm at a loss here. It's a Dell Dimension 9100 with Windows XP SP3.

I have a little older computer (Dell Dimension 9200) which I want to use as a server at home. I have formatted it and installed Windows XP - ready to be used. The other computers that will connect to this server are running Windows 7.
The problem is that the stationary pc (the one I am trying to make a server) does not appear on the "what network folder would you like to map?" part on the laptop. The server/the Dell Dimension 9200 is connected to the internet, and is fully updated through Windows updates. All the other computers in the house appear on the one laptop, but not the computer I am trying to make a server out of.
After clean reinstall of windows XP Pro on Dell dimension 4600, computer not connecting to internet. I have it plug into port on my wireless router, I am posting this from different PC pluged into a port on the same router, so I do have internet to the PC.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am using a Negear Wireless USB adapter for the Dell Dimension 2400. The computer can see the wireless adapter in Device Manager; but it does not pick up any wireless signals.
There is a wireless switch to turn on/off for the laptop, but a desktop does not have such feature.
Since 2 months I have the following problem: the first time each day I power on my computer I cannot get internet access. I cannot reach the networkcenter to check if anything is wrong. Sometimes after a long wait (10 minutes) I get the alert: network adapter is not available. The only option is to power down the computer and to power on again. Usually then I have internetacces. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Linksys 10/100/1000 Gigabit NIC (m/n EG1032), which I've tried installing in my Dimension 1100/B110 without success. I followed the installation instructions from Linksys (i.e., open case and add card to motherboard, then start PC, at which point WINXP Pro should identify the new hardware and I would then select the driver from the disk. However, the "Found New Hardware" never came up. The Dimension 1100/B110 comes with an Intel Pro 100 NIC onboard. I next tried to disable the onboard NIC through the Hardware Manager, and use the Add Hardware feature in the Control Panel, but it didn't find the new NIC on the first go round. So, I installed the driver utilizing the "Have Disk" option. The Linksys NIC was installed, but stated that it might not work properly, and a look at the Hardware Manager confirmed that there was a problem (a yellow exclaimation point next the the new device and a Code/Error 10 in the Details section). The yellow light on the new NIC did flash when the ethernet cable was plugged in, but it didn't connect to the network. The Windows Troubleshooter recommended removing and restarting the PC, but the new NIC still was not found when Windows booted up. I next restarted the PC, went into the Bios and disabled the network interface. The PC took forever to restart into Windows, and still the new hardware was not recognized. I'm wondering whether there is a pin on the motherboard that I need to short, in order to be able to install a new NIC, or if there's some changes I need to make in the Windows software someplace. I've restored the Bios setting and have enabled the onboard NIC in the interim, so as to be able to access the internet and my network printer.
