Today, I received the Dell Inspiron 660s I ordered and I had a question about the network port on the computer. Is the network port the place for connecting a router and then the router connects to a modem, or is there another connection I should make?
View 1 RepliesI have upgraded from Win 7 to Win 8 recently at my new Dell PC.I have upgraded my PC Drivers and get the latest Win8 update on line.My ISP has came up with a latest version of 4G Connection Manager (software) to allow me to login to the Wireless Network.I am using a small pen like modem called Dongle.
The performance of the new Connection Manager is uncertain, sometime I can logon to the network easily after starting, but sometime I don't.The searching for the network only last for 3 seconds and could not proceed further to detect and connect to the network.The present sucessful rate is about 50%.

May I know if there is any quick fix for this problem such as resetting the control panel / device manager etc to get 100% successful connectivity as in Win 7 PC?
I just got a new Inspiron 660s last week and have been having some unusual connectivity issues with it. After suffering for a day or so with a painfully slow wireless connection (the status showed the signal was "excellent" but the speed of downloads or loading web pages was dreadful; meanwhile my older Inspiron Mini in roughly the same location blazes along and has for years with no problems), I decided to try just going with a wired connection. This fixed the speed issue to say the least, but now the connection drops for a few seconds every five minutes or so, then immediately reconnects. If I were just web-surfing, it wouldn't impact me all that much, but the activities I enjoy, like playing games online and streaming music, require a signal that doesn't keep cutting out. I've tried updating the drivers, but I'm told I have the most up-to-date drivers. I've tried unchecking the power-saving options and I've tried unchecking IPv6 and just about every other solution I've come across in my web searches, but nothing works. When I get home from work this evening I may try uninstalling and reinstalling the device drivers. Barring that, I may just go pick up a USB wireless adapter-- I used a cheap Belkin one in the same location on an old Dimension desktop years ago and it worked great-- and see if that works.

I was suspecting that it was and issue with SP3 or a driver issue however it is doing the same thing always now. It will turn on and detect wireless networks but when I go to connect the connection box simply stays on "waiting for the network" then just stops. No faults or warnings. This happens with any network.
I stopped using the wireless a few months ago when it would randomly disconnect for any network. The thing just would not stay connected. Just used LAN. I have tried several different drivers and even a complete image restore. It really does seem like a hardware issue. Now I can pick up a new card for pretty cheap but I just want to if this is a common problem.
I have an old--inspiron 2650--laptop. What do I need to add to it to be able to use with my wireless router, or when I travel?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIve been having problems with the Wireless connection on my laptop for a while now. Basically even though the signal strength is shown as excellent and hovering over the little monitor in notification area shows "Internet access" i cannot connect to the Internet via WiFi. The strange thing is when i connect an Ethernet cable the signal strength on the bottom goes up and i get Internet access but the computer seems to think its got a wireless connection, even though its actually a wired connection. Wireless not connecting Dell Inspiron N5110 to router.Dell Inspiron N5110 quit connecting last night about 8 PM while I was online.Both iphone and our other Dell operate wirelessly fine. N5110 works fine hooked to router with ethernet cable.
1. turned on the off Norton fire wall and tried to connect wirelessly - no success.
2. loaded lastest Dell drives for networking.
3. run Dell diagnostics [code]
I have 2 laptops (Inspiron 1525 and 1545) and was wondering if I can connect to my Dual Band 5GHZ router with this? I don't see the SSID in my wireless area on my computer.
Are my laptops compatible with a 5GHZ connection? If not, is there an adapter for it, how much is it, and it is easy to do?
how do i start the inbuilt wireless on my 660s ? i try using hotspot but i get no internet flow though it shows on and if i try setting it up through windows networks it doesnt detect any router.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of Ethernet cables, however a lot of them have their latches broken off but that hasn't stopped my laptop from working but it isn't just that when i plug in a Ethernet cord with the latch into the port of the 660s no lights show up, plus when i put in another cable, i guess some regular cord , i do get lights but that doesn't connect me to the internet...and i am just confused.
So what i am trying to say is: Is there something wrong with the port?
Do I need to change my Ethernet Cable?
Or is there something else completely wrong that i am not seeing?
Ive just bought a Dell 660s mini tower (Windows 7), but Im getting a low Wifi signal compared to my laptop. The wifi bar varies between 3 and 1, whereas on my laptop it is consistently 5, and Logmein keeps dropping out when I connect to the 660s. The wifi card is a Dell 1506. I have installed the latest drivers. I have tried changing the channel on the router but it didnt make a difference.

The 'repair wireless network connection' does not work, it tries to repair it then stops at 'renewing your IP address'. It has nothing to do with the wireless network, because we are at a university and only this computer will not work.

I have Inspiron 14R using it for more than 1 year, from yesterday im not getting the internet connection but it detects my Wifi connection.
Wifi router has been resetted and turned off, but it doesnt connect. Wifi is connecting in my mobile but its not connecting to my laptop.
My Dell Inspiron 530S does not recognize any wired internet connection. I have my modem and router set up and working with my PS3 as well as my HP Desktop. But even when I use the same wire that is in the HP, my Dell doesn't pull up any network/internet.

It'll connect fine and work for a while and then it'll stop loading or refreshing pages. If I got to network connections and hit 'disable' and then 'enable' it'll connect fine again and run for a little longer but it's really beginning to get frustrating having to do this every 5 minutes.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased a new HUAWEI wireless modem. This lovely little device will connect beautifully to my iPad, to all the Acer computers at work, to my Samsung mobile phone. It will not however successfuly connect wirlessly to my Dell Inspiron N5010.
I plug it in via a USB port and can connect to the internet that way. If I unplug the USB cable the computer says I am connected but when I try to access a webpage the browser says I am not connected. In the bottom right of my screen my computer says I am connected. This is most confusing and frustrating. I took the computer to work and had the IT department look at it but they had no answers for me.this same computer has recently been connecting to a different wireless modem so I am at a loss.
A Dell Inspiron laptop (2011) with Windows 7, will not connect to the internet. Wireless network shows good connectivity and I tried plugging in my ethernet cable between the router and my Dell and it didn't work. My desktop and other devices (Wii, other laptops, itouch) can connect wirelessly without a problem. I have had this laptop for about a year and it has worked perfectly until today. I was using the internet an hour prior to shutting down the system. When I restarted it an hour later the wireless connection was there, but there was an error saying that I could not connect to the internet. I tried restarting the router and the system and nothing worked. Could this be a hardware problem with the network card? I have been using the network card heavily for internet gaming and noticed that the laptop has been getting very hot.

It is "replacing" a Dell Inspiron 9100 that has gotten to be too slow and bulky for my needs. For support purposes, both laptops are running on Windows 7.Overall, I love my new Inspiron 1764. However, I have noticed seriously degraded connection/signal strength with the wireless card (Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card) compared to my Inspiron 9100 (Dell Wireless 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI card).
In areas of my house that my 9100 can get full signal strength (5 bars), my new 1764 is getting 2 or fewer bars. This behavior is also not limited to only my house, as I have tested it at my job and in an area less than 10 feet away from the wireless router, I have "Internet connectivity problems".
I tried twice this morning to speak with Dell support. The first person I spoke at least initiated a DellConnect session with me so that they could check some of my settings and such (however, why they went twice into my sharing settings I could not determine since they have absolutely nothing to do with signal strength.)
Unfortunately, I was disconnected from the session when I went to an area that had less signal than right next to my wireless router.I then got back on chat support with Dell and received another technician to speak with. I explained my problem, told them that I was in a DellConnect session with the other technician, and they looked up my support contract.They then told me that my warranty does not cover software issues and referred me to the software department and told me it would be an extra charge. I told them that I did not believe it to be a software issue in any way, shape, or form. They told me that it must be a setting issue. I have since spent several hours scouring the internet forums on Dell and other websites checking people who have had similar issues. Some of their issues were admittedly from software settings, but I have still yet to find anything that indicates to me that I have an incorrect software setting.
As of this writing, I am standing in my kitchen, typing on my Inspiron 9100 with a full 5 bars, while my Inspiron 1764 sits next to me with a measly 2 bars, and I am literally standing 7 feet above the room that houses my Linksys WRTU54G-TM router.Personally, I suspect a faulty wireless card, but how do I convince Dell to hear my case and replace it rather than trying to bilk me for unneeded software support?
I have a new inspiron 15 laptop and also bought an all in one wireless printer. I have a iinet BOB lite modem. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the wireless printer, modem and laptop to tall to one another. Am I missing something or should it all work? The laptop has internet access. The laptop also shows the printer installed with a big green tick next to it but it says it is offline. At no point has a green light appeared on the printer to indicate any wireless connectivity to the modem.

i have a Dell inspiron 1520, the ethernet port has stopped working- no lights when cable connected. this was fine and then just stopped, it is used to connect to hub from time to time when wifi goes down. have tried 3 different cables, no joy, these all work in another laptop. My laptop is dell inspiron N5010 and I have win 7 64bit home edition , I had a virus called win32.sality or something like that , that made all my program stop working , O downloaded an antivirus , and some message asked me to activate some kind of firewall and I presses ok , the wireless network changed to limited connectivity , I tried to reinstall the wireless driver , nothing happened , later , the available wireless networks disappeared , so I connected the network cable to connect to the internet using ethernet , it didn't work as well , and after many trials with the wireless drive , it's name doesn't appear now in the device manager , it says network adapter and has a yellow ! next to it , there is also something called realtek pcie fe family controller and it also have a yellow ! next to it , so I tried a usb broadband stick to connect to the internet that should have nothing to do with any drives , it said that the connection can't be established
the network troubleshooting sais that there could be a problem with the realtek pcie fe family controller drive , and it used to say before that there is a problem with the (intel ...) which is the wireless adapter (but i don't remember its full name)
