Dell :: Reformatted Inspiron 17R And No Wi-Fi Availability

Apr 30, 2012

My father purchase an Inspiron 17R (he knows nothing about computers and I'm just a low level user).  He has wireless internet thru Comcast and there was never a problem. He downloaded some scam program, and I reformatted the hard drive.  Used the recovery disk, windows installed and remained connected thru the whole reformat process. This recovery disk was the operating system only- no other recovery disk was included. After the reformat, the computer now has no wireless capability.  After checking the forums I went to the service center, entered the service tag, and downloaded/installed every driver in the "chipset" and "network" categories. (Downloaded to a different computer and transferred with CD)Still no wireless.  When I click on the "bars" in the lower right corner, it doesn't even give me an option for wireless networks (which it used to- now it only says "dial up and VPN")I went to the device manager, the "Wireless LAN mini card" is ok, but there are 4 things underneath showing the yellow exclamation point of death:

ETHERNET CONTROLER
PCI SIMPLE COMMUNICATIONS CENTER
SM BUS CONTROLLER
UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS

I'd like to get a new WWAN card for my Dell XPS 1340 - currently there is 5530, though now I would like to put 5550 or 5560. I have read couple of threads on dell forums, other forums regarding the drivers availability and compatibility, however I haven't noticed any for 1340. Even though mentioned cards are not officially available for this model?

Reformatted HP Pavilion And Now No Internet?

I moved and got a new nice centurylink wireless system. Everything runs great, have the Alienware wireless with Belkin adapter. I have an old HP Pavilion that was shelved due to slow issues. Now I'd like another computer to be a stereo for streaming radio in the house. I got the HP running, installed the Belkin and was online! No problems. So I went ahead and re-formatted the HP to restore it to factory setting and clean it off. Re-installed the Belkin. It says I'm connected, has the 2 little monitors showing on bottom right bar, but one blinks lit/not lit the other is mostly dark, but does blink too. Hold mouse over icons says"Wireless Network Connection 2 (Flippin) Speed: 54.0 MbpsSignal Strength:ExcellentIn Network Connections The Belkin has a red question mark over it and it says "Validating Identity

Internet Random Disconnects After Reformatted

Mar 2, 2013

recently upgraded most of my computer parts and reformatted from windows 7 enterprise 32bit to win7 enterprise 64bit. (all of this happened in a computer store) I never had internet problems before the reformat, however it has happened to me before when I had previous, newly reformats on my pc which usually goes away after 2-3 months. here is the problem, the internet is fine when I start using it and after an hour or two it will disconnect and when I troubleshoot it, it will just say "DNS server isn't responding" and what I do is turn the modem off and turn it back on and the internet will come back after 10-20 seconds. so basically my internet is fine and will just go down then to fix it I just have to turn the router off and on.

Reformatted Laptop / Internet Slow On One Fast On Other

Mar 1, 2011

I recently acquired a laptop from a friend, he was having problems with it and decided to just give it away and buy a new one, I took and it examined the problem, it is a HP Pavillion laptop running on Windows 7.When I booted it up it said "NO BOOTABLE DISK" or "NO BOOTDISK INSTALLED" or something of that nature.I realized that the harrdrive was fried so I bought a new harrdrive and installed it into the new laptop, reinstalled Windows 7 onto the laptop and installed all the required drivers.I don't understand why, my old laptop running on Windows XP, it runs fine and smoothly, pages open quick and downloads finishing fast and smoothly. But when it comes to the Windows 7 laptop, A 2mb file takes almost 30 mins just to download, web pages take forever to open up.

Dell :: No Ethernet On Inspiron 17R 5720?

Apr 12, 2013

I have a new Dell Inspiron 17R 5720.  When I plug an Ethernet from my router to the laptop absolutely nothing happens.  It seems as if the Ethernet adapter on the laptop is not connected.  I've tried troubleshooting by going into "Control Panel, Network Connections".  The Ethernet icon says "Network Cable Unplugged, Realtex PCIe FE Family Controller".

I've tried the same Ethernet connection with another Dell laptop and it works just fine.

As I said, it seems as if the Ethernet adapter on my laptop is not hooked up at all.

I am trying To get my Wi-Fi to work by pressing FN+F2 however it is not working, the Bluetooth icon appears instead which doesn’t work either.I have tried to look for the wifi adapter in the device manager, but it does not exist in the list.I understand that I have to install the drivers. Will that do the trick? I also don’t know what the name of the wifi adapter is, so don’t know which driver to install.

Dell :: Inspiron 17R SE Wireless Connectivity

Mar 23, 2013

I have been experiencing quite a bit of wireless problems with my Inspiron 17R SE. Only about half the time can I connect to my router and even then it only stays connected for a couple hours. It seems intermittent and the problem will go away for a week or so, but right now it is back in full force. Typically it will either connect and say that there is limited connectivity or it won't connect at all. Resetting the adapter via the Windows 7 troubleshooter only fixes it about half the time.

The thing is that the wireless and everything else works just fine on my Ubuntu partition, which makes me think that my driver is a bit wonky. I have tried downloading the one directly from Dell, and that has come to no avail. I have even tried using the Dell software support suite, and that hasn't found anything wrong either.

Dell :: Can't Connect N5110 Inspiron To Wi-Fi

Nov 11, 2011

I am having difficulty connecting my Inspiron N5110 to WiFi (I managed to when I first bought it last week through a different network but when I bought it home it didn't work).

When I try and connect, it asks for the key, which I enter. It then searches and says it can't connect to the Network. The WiFi Network then becomes unavailable and loses signal with all Internet connected devices then taken offline. The network then reconnects but the laptop still doesn't connect to the WiFi. Is there a setting I need to change in the laptop to get it to connect?

Dell :: No Internet On 1546 Inspiron?

Dec 28, 2011

I was on the internet browsing as usual, then all of a sudden when I turned my laptop back on the internet was not working. There is a red cross over a dial-up symbol where the wireless symbol used to be. And when I go on "change adapter settings" nothing is there. On device manager, network adapters is missing unless I go on "show hidden devices".

I tried to install the drivers on my Dell 1546 Inspiron (Windows 7 64-bit). [URL] I am stuck on step 4 (see link) as I'm unsure which one to download under networks. I think its the Realtek Driver (RTL8103EL-GR) and when I install it a message pops up "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable."

I have spent countless hours searching online attempting to fix this problem. I read in numerous posts if I remove the RAM and place it back in after 10 minutes it should solve the issue, but others have said it did not work for them. I am inexperience and rather not open-up and remove anything in-case of further problems.

Dell :: Inspiron 17R / The Default Gateway Is Not Available

Dec 12, 2010

I bought my mother a new Inspiron 17R. She really mostly needs it for internet and email.  I set it up at my house, and was able to access the internet via my wireless connection just fine.   I brought it to her house, it connected fine there also.  For a couple of weeks everything was fine.  Then suddenly it lost ALL connectivity to the internet.   When I troubleshoot the connection, the error message is "default gateway is not available".  This occurs both on the wireless connection at my mother's house AND back at my own wireless connection at my house.   At the same time, multiple other computers continue to connect without issue to both networks, so we can rule out a problem with the modem and/or the WAP.   I went back to a Windows restore point when I know that the connection was working, but even after that I continue to have the same problem.

I've also tried connecting via an ethernet cable directly to the router.  Same result. To add insult to injury, the DELL tech support web site pretty much times out when I try to log on there to find out any info.  I can't even add the new service tag to my account.  Right now the device is just an expensive doorstop for all the use it is to my mother.

I tried to do some research online (not on the uncooperative DELL site), as a result of that I tried a couple of things like checking the default gateway value under network connection details.  It shows as 192.168.1.1 which should be correct.  Also I  unchecked the TCP/IPv6 option under Wirless network properties. Network  Card is Broadcam DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card.

Dell :: Inspiron 1525 Wi-Fi Won't Connect

Mar 30, 2012

I am trying to active a wi-fi hotspot I recently upgraded to with Telstra. The instructions are very simple, handy for me as I am not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to computers. So I've never used my wi-fi before. I know there is a button on the right hand side I need to slide forward to turn the wi-fi on. When I do this the computer makes a 'ping' noise, I assume it is acknowleding the Wi-fi is on? However, the button doesn't stay forward it sits in the middle. The wi-fi light doesn't appear to change either.
