Dell :: Very Low Wireless Signal On 3520
Jan 7, 2013
I have a new Dell Inspiron 3520 that I have had for about a week. My wireless signal is horrible...it only has one bar, maybe two, and sometimes none at all...and it is right beside my router. My old Toshiba lap top that is ten years old has a complete full signal. I can not find a solution to this, I am ready to take this Dell back and get another Toshiba.

I never had this problem with my old HP. I trade stocks as a hobby and when it drops wifi it takes 30-40 seconds to reload.

I just bought a new Dell Inspiron 3520 (service code: <Admin Note: removed per privacy policy~RK>) which came with Ubuntu. Although I had to install windows 7 32 bit and I am facing a driver issue with wireless adapter. When I try to connect to the preferred network I get "Unidentified Network - No Internet Access".
I know this is a driver problem because it works well on Ubuntu. So as the original configuration from Dell site lists: "WIRELESS : DELL WIRELESS 1703 CARD"
so I downloaded this driver : {URL}, with no success. Is there anything I can do?

Wednesday 12-12-12, purchased a Dell Inspiron 3520 with Windows 8. Installed Win 7 Home Professional and downloaded drivers for network communications. All loaded except Network Controller & BCM43142A0.I have tapped Fn + F2 (to turn on wireless) Device Manager has a yellow ! on these.Trying to update driver over Internet or HDD gets = Windows could not find driver software for your device.
When I go to Network locations to connect to a network, it says, "No connections available".When I click properties for "Network Controller", I get PCI bus 7, device 0, function 0, No driver selected Code 28 Laptop only works with wired connection?

I am on my second 3520 Laptop (first one purchsed in November 2012, returned last week) and the same problem is happening. This is that after every Windows Update I am unable to connect to the Internet. Wi-Fi checks out and used by other PC's in the house, I thought I'd cured it recently by being able to go in and sign into Mcafee (22/1) then an update on 23/1 and BAM! No Internet, no way can I get into McAfee to sign in, and the only options are restore to 21/1 (did that still no joy) or back to Factory (23/12/12) and re-install Office 2010 AGAIN! I have spent over £10 in calling the Dell Premium line, I have emailed the Support Director who arranged the laptop swap and still have this problem. I have posted it on Windows 8 forums, other forums I can find, Googled 'No Internet after Windows8 updates' 'till the cows come home, have gone back to Factory about 10 times over the 2 machines, tried to create Restore points myself but they disappear after the updates, all very frustrating. I 'could' get a refund but this is the 6th Dell machine we've had and I like the support. This machine, like 2 others (1 on Vista about to be upgraded to Win7 the other just upgraded) this new one will be used in a church based Debt Advice charity so eventually will be in a cupboard and used every Wednesday by an admin volunteer. It will be a terrible pain to have this trouble as she's not that young nor a PC expert so I need a seamless, invisible solution that will work without a hitch like all updates in XP, Vista and Win7.

I have Dell Inspiron 15 3520 laptop bought in December 2012 with Windows 8 Pro. It was working fine until two days ago. I am unable to obtain DHCP lease either through wireless or wired network. After troubleshooting, I found DHCP service is not running and try to restart but of no avail.I ran sfc /scannow and the results are OK.

if there is any substance to the ACER claims. My friend has an ACER lappy with ACERs version of the Intel 2915ABG. They claim the following;
Acer has reinforced its commitment to mobile users with the introduction of high performance wireless using SignalUp technology from Acer. A 2004 study conducted by independent authority RMIT IT Labs found that Acer SignalUp technology provided 25% increased wireless strength against wireless notebooks from Dell, HP/Compaq and Toshiba.“The Acer notebooks wireless LAN performance was clearly superior to the Intel Centrino based notebooks tested from Dell, HP and Toshiba.” said Steve Turvey, Manager, RMIT Test Lab. “The Acer TravelMate maintained connections at a significantly greater distance from the Access Point when compared to the other notebooks.”
Do they have a modified intel 2915 ? Can we install ACERs driver to get the 25% increase in performance ?

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 1764 laptop that I received on the 25th of June. It is "replacing" a Dell Inspiron 9100 that has gotten to be too slow and bulky for my needs. For support purposes, both laptops are running on Windows 7.Overall, I love my new Inspiron 1764. However, I have noticed seriously degraded connection/signal strength with the wireless card (Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-card) compared to my Inspiron 9100 (Dell Wireless 1350 WLAN Mini-PCI card).
In areas of my house that my 9100 can get full signal strength (5 bars), my new 1764 is getting 2 or fewer bars. This behavior is also not limited to only my house, as I have tested it at my job and in an area less than 10 feet away from the wireless router, I have "Internet connectivity problems".
I tried twice this morning to speak with Dell support. The first person I spoke at least initiated a DellConnect session with me so that they could check some of my settings and such (however, why they went twice into my sharing settings I could not determine since they have absolutely nothing to do with signal strength.)
Unfortunately, I was disconnected from the session when I went to an area that had less signal than right next to my wireless router.I then got back on chat support with Dell and received another technician to speak with. I explained my problem, told them that I was in a DellConnect session with the other technician, and they looked up my support contract. They then told me that my warranty does not cover software issues and referred me to the software department and told me it would be an extra charge. I told them that I did not believe it to be a software issue in any way, shape, or form. They told me that it must be a setting issue. I have since spent several hours scouring the internet forums on Dell and other websites checking people who have had similar issues. Some of their issues were admittedly from software settings, but I have still yet to find anything that indicates to me that I have an incorrect software setting.
As of this writing, I am standing in my kitchen, typing on my Inspiron 9100 with a full 5 bars, while my Inspiron 1764 sits next to me with a measly 2 bars, and I am literally standing 7 feet above the room that houses my Linksys WRTU54G-TM router.Personally, I suspect a faulty wireless card, but how do I convince Dell to hear my case and replace it rather than trying to bilk me for unneeded software support?

My new computer was delivered December 21, 2012. Imagine my surprise that I can't connect to my wireless connection unless I am less than 10 feet away from the AT& T wireless router. There are 3 computers 1 floor up and 30 feet away that can connect, so I know it isn't that the signal isn't strong enough. My Inspiron 9300 that I have had since 2005 can connect and I am using it right now. Here's my specifics.
17r SE 7720
Windows 8
1 T hard drive
8 G RAM
32 G SATA Drive
Inter N-2230
AT&T internet wireless router.
The new computer will hook up when extremely close to the router but it does lose the signal occasionally even though I am only 10 feet away.

Installed it; finally found the original OEM resource disk from Dell and installed it. I downloaded a later version of the driver and yet it is not working. Is there a problem created by Win7 installation? How can I wake up the wireless so it can wirelessly receive and send items to my Smart Phone."

I have an XPS L502x laptop with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless card. For the past couple of weeks the strength of the signal as measured by the Intel proset tools goes from excellent to poor in the space of 60 seconds, back and forth. It seems to do this on all channels from 1 to 13. It definitely is affecting Internet performance. I have the security set at WPA-Personal in an attempt to try and stabilise the network. I have also been using iSSIDer to try and find the best channel since there are about 10 other wireless networks from other houses around me. I have a D-Link 645 router which is admittedly about 10 metres and 2 or 3 walls away. However, until a fortnight ago, the network was dead stable showing a strong signal (4 or 5 bars (-50). Now it is all over the place. Could it be a damaged card?

I own a Dell Latitude D600 that I purchased off of Ebay a few months ago. For the past month I have been having an issue with my wireless card. My problem started when I turned on my computer and booted up and when my desktop loaded, no wireless icon or signal strength showed on the bottom right hand corner where are the other icons are. I went to Device Manager and in the Network adapter section was an exclamation point next to the Dell Wireless 1450 Dual Band WLan mini pci card which showed that there is a code 10 error. I have tried uninstalling it but then I would always get the BSOD with the BCMWL5.sys error. I have tried updating the driver as well but it would tell me that it already is up to date. I have also tried reinstalling my OS but my code 10 error always returns. When I opened up my laptop to see if the card is the cables are loose (which they weren't), I noticed that my wireless card is the Broadcom 4309.
I would also like to ask exactly what order am I suppose to have all of my drivers installed? I am almost positive that I am not installing them correctly. I have seen websites that say to install the Intel Chipset and O2 Smart Card first and then the NSS and so on.

I got my Brand new xps 15 yesterday, It works fine, looks great, I'm overall satisfied with it. (even though it gets warm all the time)
Problem is, the WIFI doesn't work well at all, I'm 2 meters from my box right now, And I'm not experiencing any problems, but as soon as I get upstairs in my bedroom, my signal speed drops significantly, I can't even load a you tube video, I was downloading a game from steam yesterday, and the dl speed dropped to 6mb/s!! That's awful, If this problem can't be fixed, I'll be returning mine, and won't buy any other Dell product, I don't see how a laptop that pricey can have that kind of problems. ( because I heard I wasn't the only one, a lot of people have the same problem).

I just got a brand new laptop (Windows 8) for my girlfriend as a Xmas gift and I'm having issues with the wifi signal.
If I stay near the router, no problems. But if I go 10-15 feet away, then the signal is almost inexistant... 1 or 2 bars. 20 feet away then it's 0 to 1 bar and losing connection. That router never gave us any problem before. Another laptop (Inspiron 1525 on Vista) is running correctly with a good signal just besides. An HP is also working fine at the same location. And 2 other ones as well... (Yes I know I have many PCs... ;)
I installed the latest drivers for the Belkin router just in case it's due to Windows 8 but that ain't fixed the issue.

Just had delivered two vostro 260s desktops both with wireless cards pre installed.
My home wireless network has been in operation for months with a Linksys Dualband router and various devices (.11n and older) operating.
I set up the two PCs in my work room where the router is and they imediately connected successfully. I moved one of the desktops to another room (about 12 metres away) and it can barely find the network. At first the signal was not found at all then it would briefly find the network then lose it again. I re-arranged router, modem, cables etc. to get it about 3m closer and higher up and now the new PC sees the network but the signal strength is poor and all internet actions are very slow.
To put this in some sort of context, I have an HP laptop which detects excellent signal strength from this router at the same location and all round my house.
