Difference Between Wired Connections And Wireless - Routers

I see 350 and 450 Mbps speeds Router but I think that that only refers to wireless. Are there differences in the speed of a wired connection for all these new routers or are they all the same?

Linksys Wired Router :: EA4500 - Wired Connections Have Long Ping Times

Sep 23, 2012

I purchased and set-up the EA4500 on Thursday.  Friday my ISP (Charter) was out and worked on connection for over 2 hours due to slowness issues.  Connected directly to modem I get normal ping times on whichever computer is connected.  When I get the computer connected by the router (hard wired) I get very long ping responses up to 900ms.  They are all over the place 30ms (I can live with that), up to the 900's.  I contacted Linksys support last night, who had me update to the cloud firmware and change MT U to 1300, have not noticed a difference.  I did end up doing a hard reset on the router last night after I lost tech support.  We were disconnected with router rebooted, and I didn't have the patience to connect again last night.

It was so slow on my work computer, a pint to yahoo timed out.  The computers connecting to router are

XP SP3 (mine)
Win 7 Home (IPV6 turned off)
Work laptop that uses VPN and VOIP

Linksys Wired Router :: E2000 - Security Wired Ethernet Connections

Sep 19, 2011

I have an e2000 wireless router and have several devices connected by ethernet cable including private data on an external hard drive.  I am planning to allow a tenant in another building connect via an ethernet cable connected to my router.  Can I limit that computer (tenant's computer) from accessing all other devices connected by ethernet cable to my router?  I know can password protect wireless access and limit access to the internet that way -- but my question is specifically to connections by ethernet cable.

Linksys Wired Router :: E4200 No Longer Accepts Wired Connections?

Oct 11, 2012

My E4200 router no longer accepts any WIRED connections. I can connect from the modem to the computer and everything works as expected. I can connect other computers wirelessly to the router. I cannot connect any laptops WIRED to the router. Nothing has changed on the systems to restrict internet access. There is something wrong with the router and the WIRED ports. I tried going through the troubleshooting on this site but it was of little to no assistance. The Cisco Connect utility doesn't appear to accomplish anything either. My guess is because I cannot connect to the WIRED ports on the router to connect to the internet to allow for whatever troubleshooting that needs to be done.

Get Separate Wired And Wireless Connections To The Internet?

Sep 3, 2012

I currently have a Linksys WCG200 wireless gateway cable modem. The computers in my office are connected to it via ethernet cables and I use the wireless signal in the rest of the house for my laptop and guests. I'm (still) using Win XP Pro on all the computers.I'm about to start a work at home job doing customer service and I am not allowed to have a wireless network that might broadcast customer information, so I need to be able to prevent that from happening. I'm assuming I'll need two separate networks? All computers need internet access and if it's possible I would still like to be able to share files between the two networks (assuming I need 2 different networks), but it's not the end of the world if I can't do that.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Dropping Wired And Wireless Connections?

Feb 8, 2013

After 5 years of services my DIR-655 begun acting up yesterday; first of it begun by getting REALLY slow, it could take up to 25 seconds to login into the software and up to 30+ seconds just going from one menu to another, on some instances connection (wired) to the router was lost. This morning it started dropping all connections, wired or not; first my iphone then my WDTV, after that it's been pretty much random connections. On one given moment wired works but not wireless, then wireless works but not wired and sometimes I get both but for 3 or 4 minutes.I've reset the router to factory settings, plugged/unplugged, changed cables, network adapters on desktops and the problem persists.

Wired / Wireless Connections Constantly Disconnecting And Reconnecting?

Jul 17, 2011

I've been having a problem the past several days with my wired connection where every 2-3 seconds it will disconnect, then reconnect, then disconnect, and so on without stopping. There doesn't seem to be any reason for it, and it's not the internet connection but rather the physical connection that seems to be lost (the network will do the entire identifying...unidentified network > identified network thing).

Naturally, I've already tried upgrading my network card drivers + uninstalling/reinstalling when it didn't work. I've powercycled the router/modem and rebooted the comp, but I can't find any way to fix the issue. It's not a problem with the router, since this only happens on my computer, and the other computers connected to the router have no problems at all. Even if I disconnect the router and connect my computer directly to the modem, it still has the issue.

Normally I'd assume it was something wrong with my network adapter, but my computer has no problems connecting to a new router/network it's never been on before. This only happens with networks that my computer has connected to in the past.

Recently I've just been using the wireless connection since it was only the wired connection having issues, but a few days ago my wireless connection started doing the exact same thing. It'll disconnect/reconnect ad infinitum without stopping every few seconds, so it's impossible to get on the internet.

Here are the results of my ipconfig:

D-Link DIR-300 Very Often Loses Connection On Wired And Wireless Connections

Nov 25, 2011

My D-Link DIR-300 very often loses connection on wired and wireless connections. It stops connecting to Internet randomly i.e. any URL typed in from the browser times out.I connect various devices such as desktop, laptop, ipad2 over wired and wireless connections and the behavior is the same from all devices when this problem occurs. If I make a direct connection to the DLS modem, it works fine for the whole day, without these issues.I also observed IP address conflict messages and my desktop does not connect to Internet if I am running VPN on my laptop, at the same time, occasionally. When this occurs, I am able to login to the router and can see the WAN status and the DHCP address being allocated to the router. I can even do DHCP release and renew, but that does not fix the problem.

WNDR4500 - Shutting Down Wired PC Disconnects All Wireless Connections

Oct 30, 2012

So I have this Netgear N900 (WNDR4500) wireless router. I have one PC connected via ethernet cable to the router and 4 wireless devices connected wirelessly. As long as the ethernet-connected PC is turned on, the other wireless connections work fine, but as soon as I shut down that PC, the internet connection is lost (although I can still connect to the router via the wireless laptops - router login page - so I know the router's wifi part is working). Why would my PC need to be on? Does the PC handle any of the internet connection for the router?

I hope I don't need to keep my PC running 24/7 so that the other devices can access the internet!

Dell :: XPS 8300 - No Internet Access (Wired Or Wireless Connections)

Aug 17, 2012

My Dell XPS 8300 has been connecting to the internet without a problem for months until this morning. This morning the computer will not connect either through the LAN or wifi adapter. The network tray icon has the yellow triangle and says "no internet access."

I have reset both the computer and router multiple times and I have also unplugged them in between. Other computers in the house connect to the router without a problem wirelessly. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with the networking/system software configuration. The computer can't ping the router. It may be the software/system config was corrupted in the last 24 hours and I may need to reinstall the operating system which I would rather not do.

It doesn't appear that any unusual software updates were made in the last 24 hours beyond Adobe Acrobat and Flash. There have been no system updates that I could identify within the last month or so.

It seems to disconnect all connections at same time, totally random. The only way to reconnect is to power down router for a few seconds and then power up.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Wired Connections No Longer Work

Jul 14, 2011

I'm trying to fix the network at a student housing building and the system is kind of a mess.  We bought a new E4200 to replace our old Linksys router which no one knows the admin pw to.  We have four switches for 50 connections throughout the four story house and when switching the connections over to the new E4200 all of the wired connections no longer work.  Switch back to the old router and presto.  How do I need to change the settings with the E4200 to get it to work?

Also, as it's a thick old house the E4200's wireless only covers maybe half of it...I purchased two wireless repeaters to put on the 3rd and 4th floors, are these simple to install with the router?

So whenever i plug in my computers with an ethernet cord to my router i get an older, different ssid name displayed in local area connections instead of the one being displayed on the wireless network. For one computer it displays the old ssid name 3011, with a 2 right next to it (i think thats because i had another router with the same name), i changed the ssid twice, but when i plug it into the computer it still displays 3011 2. The other computer displays the first newer ssid but not the official one listed on the wireless network. Either way neither of my computers display the name i have as the ssid when plugged into the router with a cord. do i need to do something else so the names match? i reset the router and updated the firmware before writing this, it didnt do anything. i have windows 7 business for both machines.

TP-Link 150Mbps Wireless :: TL-WR741ND Drops All Connections (wired And Wireless)

Mar 31, 2013

Region : Argentina
Model : TL-WR741ND
Hardware Version : V4
Firmware Version : 3.16.4 Build 130205 Rel.63090n
ISP : Fibertel

My TL-WR741ND is about 1 year and a half old, it was working fine until about 2 weeks ago. I need to reset it, times between resets is not consistent, meaning, it can take 30 minutes, or 8 hours, but it needs to be reset. Right now, there are 2 wired connections (PS3 and Desktop PC) and 7 wireless (4 cell phones, 2 notebooks and 1 netbook). 1 of the notebooks has static IP, and it also has a VM running, with another static IP. Also some port forwarding simply stopped working (ports 80 and 1180), the rest of the ports work flawlessly, but trying to forward the port 80 and 1180 (to the 2 static ips) won't work. I already upgraded the firmware, and the problem persists, also changed the channel (from 6 to 1, and then from 1 to 11).

Installing dd-wrt/openwrt/gargoyle or anything like that, is not an option. The only reason why I bough t this router, was because I could use dd-wrt, I installed it 1 year and a half ago, and it simply sucked, the wireless bandwidth was non existent, and it was a headache. I installed it again last week, to see if it could be a solution, and I was not even able to save changes in the control panel. I need a real solution, and installing a firmware that works only on chrome is not an option (specially when I use Firefox, and I needed to install chromium just to erase dd-wrt)

Asus RT-N10 / Unable To Detect The Wired Connections

Jan 31, 2012

I connected the router to the modem with an ethernet cable and the laptop to the router with another ethernet cable. A CD came with a router (Router: Asus RT-N10), so I put that into the laptop and followed the setup. The setup offered me to install something called Wireless Router Utilities, so I followed the setup and got to the point where it asked me to connect all cables etc. I did it already, but it kept telling me that the cables aren't connected. "Unable to detect the wired connections" I decided to skip that step and opened the browser, typed in the IP and got to the other setup thing. I typed in my ISP user/pass and I guess it sorta worked. I want to configure the router etc., to pass it and all. I go to the control panel, setup new connection, type the router PIN, I name the network, I put a passkey, and I click next.It says "Setting up [network name]" and after a minute it says "The network set up was unsuccessful". And that's it. No error notes, no nothing, just a button which allows me to retry. The OS is Windows 7 Home Basic. It's a new computer so almost nothing is installed. No anti-virus etc. Router: Asus RT-N10. Modem: Billion BiPAC 5200RC ADSL2.

Linksys Wired Router :: BEFSR41 Two Wired Routers In Non-standard Hookup

Linksys Wired Router :: RVS-4000 Dropping Ip Connections?

Apr 19, 2012

I have my RVS-4000 configured using static IP addresses in the LAN configuration.  The users use DHCP to get their addresses (for the most part, a couple may have static IPs set on the computer). I have the maximum number of DHCP users set to 1 to restrict the ability of people to log in to the system. That one address is locked down.

Almost daily one or more of the users will lose their IP address and a hard reset of the router is required.  The user this happens to seems random and it may be more than one but seldom all of them.  The network includes Windows7 (Home & Pro), a FreeNAS, Macs (Leopard and Snow Leopard) and an AirPort Extreme used as a WAP (DHCP is disabled).  The AirPort is plugged directly into the router and has a staic ip on the RVS-4000 but is set to DHCP.  It seems to be the most common problem child.

Swapped Identical Routers / Cannot Connect To Wireless Connections

Mar 2, 2013

Virgin media superhub was swapped for a new identical one as some users were unable to connect, but my connection was fine. When i booted my system up after it was configured by virgin I could see all connections but clicking on any "connect" button doesn't yield any form of output from the computer. Password problem? I dont get a response whenever I click "connect" on any of the other 20 wireless connections that i'm picking up, none of them being mine. When trying to add a new network from "network and sharing centre" via "set up a new connection or network" button on the mainpage or "add" button on the "manage wireless networks" tab yields the same, absolutely no reaction from the system. Now, I only add this info for science of deduction purposes, because it is truly baffling me right now, but when i first discovered the problem and went into "devices and printers" in contr panel and "add a device" my computer paused and then BSOD'd.

Things I have tried:

Updated the network card drivers Ran start up recovery - no problems detected after 20x running Logged onto the superhub through another users system and added my mac address to allowed lists, reserved i.p. address - both on and off, all combinations Pressed the wireless card button on the back of my system on and off, repeatedly Disabled/enabled network adapters in device manager Run winsock and dns flushes, ip release and renewals (e.g. things like "netsh int ip reset; netsh winsock reset; ipconfig release;renew)
Each and every troubleshooter All the usual power issues, from setting maximum performance on the network card to unplugging and socketing the router main repeatedly Administrative tools-services-dhcp client-start&auto Tcp/IP protocols-ip and dns configured automatically?

*Haven't tried (last resorts)* Reinstall windows Remove, inspect and possibly replace or just refit network card and factory reset
Give Richard Branson a slap Observations/Details Everyone, EVERYONE else can connect to the network, no problem I have full strength signal to the connection I know the password and it certainly hasnt changed All we did was swap identical routers! Logged into my other windows on a partition (original user account, messy so partitioned and made a clean install, but this was long ago and no network issues ever existed) and have the old exclamation mark over signal bars - troubleshooting it causes nothing, but at least the adding network functions yields results and it says im technically connected to the router - ive tried all noted fixes above on this windows install also.
