Is it possible to extend a wireless network from an existing extender?I have a BT Home Hub extended to a Netgear Extender.I have tried to extend this on from the netgear with an Edimax without success.Is there anything from www.ebuyer.com that I could try.
View 2 RepliesI live in a house with three floors. I have a Virgin Media Superhub on the ground floor with the 30MB package. Whilst the wireless signal quality and speed is good on the ground and first floor, it is intermitent on the second floor and my son wants to connect his PS3 with a wired connection for speed.
I have a N wireless router that I was using before I receiced the new Virgin Superhub. I want to ask if I can connect the old wireless router in my son's room on the second floor and connect it with a Cat5e ethernet cable to the Superhub on the ground floor. This way, I will have a wired connection on the ground floor for my desktop computer, my son will have a wired connection for his PS3 and laptop and his own wireless network.
I just want to know if this will work with an ordinary cable wireless router? Or do I need some sort of special access point? If this will work, do I connect the cable from the Superhub to the WAN port of the old router, or to one of the four other ethernet ports?
I want to go from my asus rt-n66u router wirelessly to another device that I can plug an ethernet cord from a desktop computer. I work on computers and my workstation cannot be close to my router. Instead of installing a wireless adapter everytime I work on a computer, I want something that I can plug an ethernet cord into that will connect wirelessly to my router. I just want to get an internet connection to my work computers without having to run an ethernet cord across my front room. I have read so much about bridging and access points but can't really figure out what would be best or what my router is capable of. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an existing network in a 300 year old structure. There is a base router from which there are 3 wired (ethernet) lines to parts of the structure. Due to the structure itself (near 2 ft thick walls - masonry) the wireless from the base router reaches only a short distance. I would like to "extend" the wireless reach using those 3 existing runs. So - can I add 3 more routers or should I go with Wireless Access Points or what else would work?
View 5 Replies View RelatedSending WiFi signal about 1/4 mile from my home to where my daughter lives so she can use her Samsung Galaxy2 Tablet on WiFi.There are homes, condos and trees in between us, so it is not a clear path.So far this is what I have done.I am using a modem and a Netgear WNR834B Wireless N Router.I connected a Hawkins Laptop Extender (HWREN Wireless 150N Mini Extender * single antenna outlet) into the router and connected a WiFi cable from the Hawkins to my tower outside above my roof and have attached a 10 dbi gain Trendnet antenna (omnidirectional) to the cable.But still the WiFi signal doesn't seem to be very strong at all when I test with my phone.And obviously, my daughters tablet does not see my router when she has her tablet search for WiFi.I also tried a 14dbi WIfi ASUS directional antenna and basically came up with the same outcome... she could not see the WiFi signal..My daughter lives in a condo and is not capable or allowed to install any outside antenna system whatsoever.

There is a cable that goes from this routerto the living room across the house, it is just laying there. Since I cannot get a wireless signal into that room,I would like, using the cable that is hanging there to make use of the other linksys and provide a wireless signal to the living room, all under the same network. In essence, extending the wireless network using the cable in the living room that is connected to the main router in my office.My question is, without touching the master router, how would I set the 2nd router in the living room up?I understand that DHCP on the 2nd router needs to be turned off, and a channel selected so that it does not overlap. Same SSID, Sam WPA2 key.Or would there be a device better suited for this?I do not want to extend the 2 rooms wirelessly I want to use the cable, then use the wireless in the living room for wireless devices etc.

I have a brand new Linksys E2500 router. I am faced with the same problem and it looks like it all comes down to this: without the WAP4410N having a physical connection to the LAN, it will not connect to the E3000 as a wireless client whether it's configured in AP mode: WDS Repeater or in client/repeater.
I've tested with various permutations that have been explored in the various discussions: matching channels/bandsmatching and non-matching SSIDs matching security settings using site survey to set the mac address of the E3000 (ensuring it's the MAC of the 2.4Ghz wireless)setting a static IP on the WAP4410Nensuring both devices are on the same subnet. Any way to be truly successful with this pair up of E3000 & WAP4410N or is it simply a technical product limitation?
I've recently purchased an E4200, and while it works great, I'd like to use my Apple Airport Extreme (2nd generation) to extend my network to another part of the house that doesn't get as great of a signal. I've become very frustrated trying to accomplish it, and I'm not sure if the problem is more from the Linksys end, the Airport end, or if it's just me.

In direct line of site, I have a light pole to which I could attach another wireless access point to extend my wireless network. This access point would have to be "rugged". Also, it would have to be able to be bridged to the current access point. In reviewing outdoor wireless access points, it appears that the 1552 is the way to go.
View 3 Replies View Relatedmy bt home hub is a far way from my desktop pc. i was using a old wireless network adapter to connect my pc to the wireless connection, it was slow and would always drop. today i brought a high performance gaming network card for my pc( just lan no wirelss), and i also brought a tp-link 300mpbs wireless N access point,i had the idea that i can use the extender to pick up the network, then run a lan cable from the wireless extender to my desktop pc, the guy in the pc shop told me this would work.ive been working on it all day and cannot get it to work, ive used different settings such as client mode,bridge ap mode and repeater mode. i also made a static ip, when the tp-link is plugged into the pc, i can ping to it, but when i try one of the connections. i just get unidentfied network - no internet access. i can connect to the tp-link via wireless with an adapter but i wanted to make use of the network card i just brought!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased this network range extender for my house. Upon going through the set up wizard the last step asked me to confirm that I could connect to the extender. After putting in the passphrase and clicking connect, it tells me that the passphrase is wrong. It is set to WEP 64bit (cannot change this) and uses the same information as my wireless network itself. I know im not entering an incorrect passphrase because it clearly shows me what the passphrase is at the end of the set up wizard. I looked for some troubleshooting from the Netgear website and in the manual but it just says that the extender is outside the network range, which is not true as ive moved it around to different spots and it gives me the same error.

have a home network setup that works completely fine everywhere in the house except one room. That room happens to be my son's room that has his Xbox 360 in it. He wants to play online but I cant get a signal back in there and if I do it is extremely weak. I have a linksys E2500 router connected to my cable modem that is wired ot one computer and then my 2 laptops connect to the wireless from that router. The Playstation 3 that is about 15 feet away works fine as well. All our ipods and iPhones work well too. It is only his bedroom where we run into trouble with any of these devices. I actually just upgraded to the E2500 about 2 months ago, so I have a Motorola WR850G sitting around. Can I use this closer to his room to lengthen my signal or how can I proceed to get him a better signal
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs my original Innbox V50U modem/router does not have a strong enough wifi signal I had to add in an additional wifi router - I used a Cisco Linksys E4200.The problem is that if I connect my laptop to the cisco router I can see the Innbox router but not vice versa. There is an additional problem as I have a wireless printer that is connected to the Cisco router. If I connect to the Innbox router I cannot use this printer as I cannot see its IP address.I read somewhere it might be down to the subnet mask. both are set to 255.255.255.0Apologies if this is n00b stuff but I have not had this problem before, I just naturally though the two networks would be able to talk to each-other.

I have a Linksys WRT54GL router handling my home wireless network located in the living room (let's call it 'Zone A').I have an ethernet cable running from that router to the other end of the house (let's call this one 'Zone B'), where the wi-fi signal is very weak. a. What is the technically correct way to have a strong wi-fi signal at Zone B (with the same SSID, key-phrase, etc.)? b. If I take another WRT54GL router, set the same SSID and key-phrase, disable its DHCP and plug it to the ethernet cable in Zone B - will that do the trick? I've tried the Linksys range extender at a friend's house and it turned out to be a big flop.

Basically , my next door neighbor is paying their ISP a fortune and hardly uses their internet at all. Ive offered for them to share mine (With both of us providing full consent , i'm not doing anything dodgy!) as i have a very big download quota and it would save them some money.
Now the 2 houses are separated by an alley but distance from the router to their computer is about 6m. View 1 Replies View Relatedhow to properly configure 2 different hardware devices to extend the current wifi signal of my home network.I'm using a Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem as my primary access point (AP) and a Netgear N300 DGN2200v1 ADSL2+ modem router which will function "behind" the SBG6580 in repeater mode. I previously had DSL for my internet connectivity but recently switched to broadband cable for faster speeds.Due to the layout of my home, I cannot physically connect the Netgear router to the Motorola modem via ethernet cable and need both devices to communicate wirelessly. I have already done extensive reading on this subject and best practices suggest that, whenever possible, both units should be the same brand/manufacturer. The Netgear appliance does have the capability of being configured as a repeater so if I don't have to buy a "network extender" that would be my preference.I understand that both units must be configured to have the same SSID, subnet, wireless channel and security encryption. In repeater mode the Netgear router can't be configured to use WPA2-PSK so I need to use WEP instead.

Right now the router operates as <SSID> and the extender is <SSID> Alt. I would like to use them both as <SSID>, and have them work together. For example, I use the Wifi downstairs on my laptop, I walk upstairs, and I don't have to change over to the other network. It would switch automatically to the stronger signal.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just got a new hawking N range extender to run on our network. My parents just got a new Internet Ready TV for the holidays but the wireless doesn't reach to their room. I ordered this range extender to boost the signal from our Linksys E2000 router. I was having a hell of a time setting it up last night. I was hoping that I could have them both use the same SSID so they would basically be the same network with all of our laptops/iPhones/iPads seamlessly switching to the strongest signal. (Router is in basement, extender is on the main floor). Unfortunately just setting them up with the same name and WPA key doesn't work as easy as I thought it would. So as of right now I have the extender set up as a different network name and it is working great. (router SSID = name, extender SSID = nameE) I just want to know if there is a way to make it work with the same SSID. I've been trying to research and have come across forums saying they need to have ALL the info the same (SSID, PassKey, Channel) and others saying the channels need to be different.
Right now I left the extender setup with the default IP and made it static so I could access the web interface again because the CD installation that came with it is absolute garbage (you can't change the broadcast channel with it). I can get into the settings easily by using 192.168.1.240 but I am weary to try to change things around again because I already have set up and reset this guy at least 5 times.

I'm running both the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 GHz networks over the same SSID. The goal, obviously, is to get everything over to N if possible. I've heard that wireless N has much better signal and transfer rates, is this true? Also, is running the two different frequencies with the same SSID problematic? It's kind of strange, because my Nexus One is having a difficult time staying connected to the network in my office while the main workstation laptop in the same room is getting a much better signal.

What's interesting is that both are running on the 2.4 GHz networks, essentially both not on the wireless n network, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of things. Is it bad to run both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks with the same SSID? If using a network repeater, is it bad to rebroadcast the original network with the same SSID as the source network? It seems that the 5.0 GHz network is getting "clobbered" by the 2.4 GHz network. Is it really necessary for me to broadcast using different SSIDs?
I have family members living in two houses side by side.One house has the cable modem and a wireless router, and the other doesn't.The signal in one house isn't strong enough to reach the 2nd, so I'm thinking of running cat 5 from the wireless router lan port to the other house.

The main house is where we live and the other is more of an office type small house. We've no phone line or internet connection in it and the location is in a dip where we've bad mobile/cell connection. We're don't want to pay an extra55 a month for phone line and internet just to use the internet maybe twice a week. We have a wireless connection in the main home house and want to extend it to the other. I know there are ways but confuesed as to which to use.

Is it possible to add a second router to extend the wireless? I would want to have the second router connected via Cat6 instead of wireless. I would probably go with a WRT54GL.
