When i go into the Netgear's Control panel and click attached devices it does not show it and it wont work. I called verizon and they gave me port numbers to put it in the port fowarding but you need the IP address which i dont know

Right now the router operates as <SSID> and the extender is <SSID> Alt. I would like to use them both as <SSID>, and have them work together. View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got a new hawking N range extender to run on our network. My parents just got a new Internet Ready TV for the holidays but the wireless doesn't reach to their room. I ordered this range extender to boost the signal from our Linksys E2000 router. I was having a hell of a time setting it up last night. I was hoping that I could have them both use the same SSID so they would basically be the same network with all of our laptops/iPhones/iPads seamlessly switching to the strongest signal. (Router is in basement, extender is on the main floor). Unfortunately just setting them up with the same name and WPA key doesn't work as easy as I thought it would. So as of right now I have the extender set up as a different network name and it is working great. (router SSID = name, extender SSID = nameE) I just want to know if there is a way to make it work with the same SSID. I've been trying to research and have come across forums saying they need to have ALL the info the same (SSID, PassKey, Channel) and others saying the channels need to be different.
Right now I left the extender setup with the default IP and made it static so I could access the web interface again because the CD installation that came with it is absolute garbage (you can't change the broadcast channel with it). I can get into the settings easily by using 192.168.1.240 but I am weary to try to change things around again because I already have set up and reset this guy at least 5 times.
I recently purchased this network range extender for my house. Upon going through the set up wizard the last step asked me to confirm that I could connect to the extender. After putting in the passphrase and clicking connect, it tells me that the passphrase is wrong. It is set to WEP 64bit (cannot change this) and uses the same information as my wireless network itself. I know im not entering an incorrect passphrase because it clearly shows me what the passphrase is at the end of the set up wizard. I looked for some troubleshooting from the Netgear website and in the manual but it just says that the extender is outside the network range, which is not true as ive moved it around to different spots and it gives me the same error.

I'm running both the 2.4 GHz and the 5.0 GHz networks over the same SSID. The goal, obviously, is to get everything over to N if possible. I've heard that wireless N has much better signal and transfer rates, is this true? Also, is running the two different frequencies with the same SSID problematic? It's kind of strange, because my Nexus One is having a difficult time staying connected to the network in my office while the main workstation laptop in the same room is getting a much better signal.

What's interesting is that both are running on the 2.4 GHz networks, essentially both not on the wireless n network, which kind of defeats the whole purpose of things. Is it bad to run both the 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks with the same SSID? If using a network repeater, is it bad to rebroadcast the original network with the same SSID as the source network? It seems that the 5.0 GHz network is getting "clobbered" by the 2.4 GHz network. Is it really necessary for me to broadcast using different SSIDs?
XP slow boot for network connections When start PC it goes normal and quickly until comes to network icons in the right low window. It takes 5 minutes for network icons to show up.

View 4 Replies View Relatedmy gateway laptop, running vista 64 home premium, cannot connect to the internet at home. connects straight to the modem via ethernet. displays as 'unidentified network'. according to the Atlantic BB tech(my ISP), my laptop is not obiaining an IP addy from the modem. The modem seems good, and the tech could see the modem from his end, but no IP addy from the laptop. ran ipconfig /all from home and the gateway was 207.255.36.1(preferred) instead of 192.168.x.x So i'm stumped with no net at home. the ipv4 properties do have the obtain automatically button checked, and dhcp is enabled. had the tech reset the provisioning on the modem & he said the mac addresses were cleared already. i reset the ipv4, ipv6, and winsock. haven't gotten anywhere. tech's last advice was to bring the modem back and swap it for another one.
